SHE JUST DROPPED NEW f***ING SONG FOR THE ALBUM IT'S CALLED LIABILITY
HELP THIS IS STUNNING
Out 5 days after my birthday
11 tracks tho
Yeah second song. I like it sooo much.
Not gonna lie but this isn't really clicking with me the "na na na na ehhh" bit is quite nice but otherwise unspectacular. Maybe it'll be a grower, but for now boooo after 'Green Light' was so amazing and instant~
Maybe I'm just being a blind stan but I am lovinggg this as well. Kinda glad this isn't just gonna be an album of 'Green Light' x11 as much as I like that.
I know a lot of people seem to be making this comparison but the lyrics and melody of this reminds me a lot of Marina's ballad's like Happy. This is cute, but has nothing on Green Light which still slays me hard.
It's no single by any means but I really like it as an album track. The piano melody is lovely from the moment it begins and Lorde's vocals keep you hooked onto the words.
Unrelated but 'Yellow Flicker Beat' played after this finished and isn't it such a wonderful, slow-burning song? I don't think I ever appreciated it at the time.
It's definitely an album track but it's a pretty good album track. x
'Yellow Flicker Beat' is indeed wondrous I underrated it a bit at the time as well but then it suddenly hit me however many months later.
The Kanye rework is fantastic too for giving it that darker edge in the production
(I feel a Lorde top 5/10 ranking coming on)
1) Ribs
2) Green Light
3) Yellow Flicker Beat
4) Glory and Gore
5) Everybody Wants to Rule the World
6) Tennis Court
7) Biting Down
8) Bravado
9) Team
10) Magnets
1) Team
2) Glory and Gore
3) Tennis Court
4) Yellow Flicker Beat
5) Royals
6) Buzzcut Season
7) Bravado (this is so under-rated)
8) 400 Lux
9) White Teeth Teens
10) Magnets
As much as I'm enjoying Green Light currently, I really don't think it's one of her best personally!
1) Green Light
2) Yellow Flicker Beat
3) Royals
4) Magnets
5) Everybody Wants To Rule The World
My top 2 slay everything else she has done, both so incredible!! Loving the YFB love in this thread, an underrated gem
Need to listen to the new one also!
Yes Josh! 'Team' was always my favourite and, whilst I liked this as well, it annoyed me at the time that 'Royals' was so much more successful. 'Green Light' could easily overtake though.
01. Tennis Court
02. Glory And Gore
03. Ribs
04. Royals
05. Yellow Flicker Beat
06. Green Light
07. Magnets
08. Team
09. Meltdown
10. 400 Lux
I think~
1) Green Light
2) Royals
3) Team
Top 3!
1 Royals (basic bitch choice but this probably still has to be my favourite, I mean it was #1 on my chart for like 11 weeks plus months more in the top 5 lmao)
2 Tennis Court (very close to flipping and calling this my fave)
3 Glory And Gore
4 Team
5 Magnets
6 Yellow Flicker Beat
7 No Better (this song is so underrated, why did it make no impact :'()
8 Buzzcut Season
9 Green Light (I don't really know how to rank this when it's still so fresh tbh but I think it'll end up somewhere around here xx it's not her best by any means but it's still pretty incred)
10 400 Lux
Or something like that. Every song on this list is like 11/10 best song ever tho lmao (and so is 'Ribs' which I didn't even have room for). I know I'm too much of a stan but her only song that I don't really like is 'Ladder Song'.
Liability is NICE ! It's a strong grower!
Liability is gorgeous!
What I don't get, why release a 2nd song one week after the single if the album isn't out til June?
Is 'Liability' meant to sounds like My Chemical Romance 'Welcome to the Black Parade'? It sounds almost identical.
After the album please...
YESSS! What an awesome collab, hoping for a tropical banger (am I the only one who thinks it's great that Major Lazer and Lorde are collaborating?)
If it's a track featuring Vybz Kartel then it'll probably be something along the lines of 'Pon De Floor' (which is still Major Lazer's best song so yass if so, Lorde isn't an obvious name to collaborate with them but I'm here for it anyway).
I'm shocked that Vybz Kartel is still actually allowed to make music though??
Collaborating with a murder is a tad strange
she did co-write major lazer / ariana grande 'all my love'...
Wow, that is just stunning.
amazing album title!
The album will depict the course of a house party I'm so intrigued!!
Sober is sfg.
I need this album now!!
For some reason I feel like Sober has flecks of 90s Bjork, in the melodies particularly, and I am SO here for that
How have you heard Sober?
Okay this live version of 'Sober' is already hitting me much harder than 'Liability', it's rather brilliant album megahype restored
cannot wait for studio Sober, will it be properly released before the album as second single?
Homemade Dynamite sounds fab too from her Coachella perf!
This is most likely going to be album of the year from what we've heard so far *.*
She announced the following track list yesterday:
01. Green Light
02. Sober
03. Homemade Dynamite
04. The Louvre
05. Liability
06. Hard Feelings/Loveless
07. Sober II (Melodrama)
08. Writer In The Dark
09. Supercut
10. Liability (Reprise)
11. Perfect Places
Not sure how I feel about 'Liability (Reprise)' as well as the normal version when it has yet to fully hit me like 'Green Light', but otherwise still really hyped!
So unbelievably hyped. Green Light is in my top 10 songs of all time!
new single coming soon!
YESSS
NEW SINGLE FRIDAY 2ND JUNE
Excited about new single! Found this video today.
Apparently it's 'Perfect Places'
About time! Hype.
i think this will be about 7pm tonight for us?
Tove Lo helped write Homemade Dynamite!
I've been trying to hold back listening to stuff until the album is released but 'Liability' and 'Perfect Places' are rather fab. And 'Green Light' is one of the best songs of recent times IMO.
SOBER STUDIO JUST DROPPED
REPEAT
SOBER STUDIO JUST DROPPED
ALSO UK TOUR I REPEAT UK TOUR!!!!!!
I AM CRYING THIS IS WAY TOO MUCH
SOBER STUDIO IS SO f***ING WONDEROUS I HAVE NO MORE WORDS SHE'S ALREADY RELEASED THE BEST ALBUM OF 2017
Omg possibly even better than Green Light!!!
Sober is wonderful.
This album is shaping up to be one of the best of the year.
My mind is blown. She's a genius.
Perfect Places has disappeared from the iTunes album?!!!
Oh it's back now... and I have finally listened to Sober and I love it! She really is amazing this era so far, I never bothered with her debut - should I? And, if so, which tracks?
Yes do it!!!! PH is also one of my favourites of all time, my personal album track favourite is Ribs but Glory And Gore is also

Not ready for this album, under a week to go!! <3
i'm declaring june 16th a national holiday
My Rank so far
12 Green Light
10 Sober
09 Perfect Places
08 Liability
Predictions for this then? I'd like to say 20k is doable. If it manages that then it could be enough for #1. Although I don't know who else is releasing that day.
6 DAYS
Pure Heroine debuted at #4 with 18,294 here in the UK. I think similar numbers for Melodrama.
01 Green Light (12)
02 Sober (11)
03 Perfect Places (10)
04 Liability (09)
As I've said, I'll be v surprised if it isn't album of the year.
Ah damn. Top 3 hopefully then as RB will probably sell 30-35K.
I'm glad it surprised you and you ended up enjoying it, Dandy! You clearly have taste in Lorde music too with the highlights you picked out Hopefully you'll continue to revisit it in the future too, I think it'll make a great double feature with Melodrama once it's released. As you said, one is a bit lighter and one is sounding a bit darker so I think they'll complement each other really well. I'm so glad we're finally getting this album in under a week
Oh Lotti I'm totally getting Ribs on second listen through, it's really lovely.
yes!!!! i find it such a beautiful journey from start to finish, the way the verses are repeated and the production just echoes throughout EVERYWHERE <33
why isn't this thread yet 10 pages long declaring love for sober???? there is no other artist on her level at the moment. QUEEN
who else is gonna try go to the tour???
I think this would have fared better with a surprise album release like Frank Ocean. The campaign has been so unnecessarily long, which is a shame as the music is so good.
It's better this way as it's likely that the album will sell well thanks to this.
3 more days before the best album of the decade gets released
You mean of the century
also true
i genuinely don't think i've ever been so hyped for an album????
Green Light looks set to be song of the year for me. Let's hope Melodrama can do the same on the album front.
"It's a new art form showing people how little we care" - Tennis Court
"We pretend that we just don't care, but we care" - Sober
"Dancin' around the lies we tell" - Team
"It's time we danced with the truth" - Sober
QUEEN
sober and green light are currently my top 2 songs of the year, perfect places is probs top 5 too. utter QUEEN
GOT LDN TICKETS YAAS
Album is out there.
I'M LISTENING NOW
I'M CRYING ONE ALBUM TRACK IN f***
HOMEMADE DYNAMITE HOLY f*** YA'LL AIN'T READY
THE LOUVRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! f*** FUC Kf***
omg i'm trying so hard not to spam but hOLY SHIT THIS SO FAR HAS EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS WHICH WERE PRETTY HIGH
It leaked? I'm waiting till Friday
OKAY ONE LAST POST I PROMISE BUT LET ME DO MY THOUGHTS ON THE WHOLE ALBUM
okay i'm not even going to bother rating them because they're all at least 9 or above if i'm being HARSH. as a body of work this is absolutely beautiful, it's been absolutely worth the wait since PH.... she's going to be such a huge star i'm so PROUD. this album is beautifully mature, diverse and has SUCH euphoric production (it's very pop!). it's without saying on first listen this is already album of the year for me and i expect it'll stay with me for a long time. also i'm expecting this to pick up SO MANY AWARDS, there is zero filler on this
track by track thoughts:
green light // still my absolute jam, a beautiful summary of the album
sober // she f***ing did that (ya'll know my love for this already)
homemade dynamite // boom
the louvre // I'VE BEEN SO READY FOR THIS after hearing comments after the listen through and it didn't disappoint, absolutely unique JAM
liability // beautiful
hard feelings / loveless // oh my GOD A MOMENT!!! the beautiful instrumental in hard feelings kills me and the loveless transition is v unexpected, but actually kinda works? i saw some comments saying they'll split it into two but actually i like it as it is! lyrically incredible, the juxtaposition is amazing
sober II (melodrama) //okay i've been quite sceptical about a part II of two songs on this album but wowwwww. i saw a live performance of this which was f***ing WONDERFUL so have been intrigued to hear this and jesus christ the STRINGS, a completely new song on it's own yet sober's tear your heart out sister, a perfect namesake for the album. it's definitely an interval type track but works so so well
writer in the dark // oh shit i wasnt expecting a track like this on the album???? a ballad on acid, she sounds absolutely amazing and this just has that CLASSIC feel to it, can't wait to hear this performed
supercut // green lights pop cousin, this is such a cute little summer anthem!! (i say cute little it's POWERFUL POP) one listen thru and i already just want to scream the lyrics out a car window. the little scream before the middle 8 is absolutely f***ing everything
liability (reprise) // OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH SHIT!!!!!!!!!!! SUPERCUT INTO LIABILITY REPRISE!!!! WIG SNATCHED!!!! this is not what i expected at f***ing ALL
perfect places // absolutely perfect stunning album closer
Lotti fml the hype for this album now AHHH.
Can u pls send a link
Did she possess Kate Bush for Writer in the Dark?
It sounds great on her
What a fantastic album
WRITER IN THE DARK !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Omg it's so Kate Bush
Forget about the leak, the real news is that Lorde has been running a secret Instagram account that reviews onion rings all over the world: http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/article/40272364/did-lorde-run-a-secret-instagram-account-dedicated-to-onion-rings
howling at this
Omg
Imma wait until Friday but I CAN'T BLOODY WAIT FOR THIS!!!! Sober and Perfect Places are LIFE rn
And I love her sm for the onion rings thing, just HER in general ugh <3 <3 <3
Random thought but she should have called the account Lorde Of The Rings :'')
Lotti sent me the link but I'm TRYING so hard not to click it rn
Really excited for this album but I am gonna hold off until Friday! 'Liability' is finally hitting me btw, yassss
Saw the booklet art for this on Reddit yesterday: http://imgur.com/a/IAEjZ
'Sober' is indeed amazing. And I love 'Perfect Places' too. This album is going to be immense. I can't wait 'til Friday.
Idk if I'm more shook by Supercut or Writer In The Dark (not that either can beat the sheer perfection of Green Light), but what an album. Album of the year I think!
All of this hype on here is making me want to hear it so bad!! But the only time I have listened to a leak was 'Lemonade' because it was only gonna be on TIDAL at the time lmao. Shall stream it on Spotify when the clock hits midnight, only the second time I have done that this year after The xx's new album soooo the excitement is real *.* Kate Bush vibes on one of the songs already sounds all kinds of incredible
10 Green Light
09 Sober
08 Homemade Dynamite
08 The Lourve
06 Liability
11 Hard Feelings / 07 Loveless
08 Sober ll (Melodrama)
08 Writer in the Dark
10 Supercut

After bathing in the album for a few times now, does this seem too positive? She did that.
Supercut > Reprise > Perfect Places is so well earned and such perfect sequencing
HAPPY MELODRAMA DAY!!
listening now! not ready for this slayage *.*
About to listen v shortly *.*
(the iTunes release of this seems to be a bit messed up tho? I see a clean version available but it's 90p more expensive for some reason, while the normal explicit version is still on pre-order, u wot)
11 Green Light this is really starting to contend for the 2nd best song this decade
10 Sober
09 Homemade Dynamite
06 The Lourve the chorus is rly irritating me, love the verses though so hopefully the chorus grows!
10 Liability
08 Hard Feelings / 09 Loveless
09 Sober ll (Melodrama)
10 Writer in the Dark
10 Supercut best unheard track <3 <3
07 Liability (Reprise) this is nice but I much prefer the original!
10 Perfect Places
Average Rating: 9.08/10 (*.*)
ugh this album is so perfect.
Listening to this after work!!! It has had great reviews already
SUPERCUT IS INCREDIBLE
i still can't believe SHE DID THAT
how are all the songs STILL growing from my initial review
holy shit
2 in the charts rn
Wow at Pitchfork giving this an 8.8 and it getting 5 star reviews all round so far.
Really hyping me up for this first listen.
Loving this. 'The Louvre' and 'Hard Feelings/Loveless' are my current favourites but it's all such a great standard, so much has gone into it. 'Writer in the Dark' is so Kate Bush, love it.
11.0 - Green Light
08.0 - Sober
08.0 - Homemade Dynamite
09.0 - The Louvre (the outro of this really gets to me)
08.0 - Liability
10.0 - Hard Feelings

10.0 - Sober II (Melodrama)
08.0 - Writer In The Dark
10.0 - Supercut

Okay, this album really is pretty wonderful.
She did that.

08 Sober (The studio version has WOW'D me a smuch as I thought it would but very good though)
08 Homemade Dynamite (I Feel like this could be a grower)
09 The Lourve
10 Liability (I really like the fragile-ness from this)
07 Hard Feelings / 09 Loveless (Hope Hard Feelings grows like Homemade Dynamite should)
09 Sober ll (Melodrama)
10 Writer in the Dark (My fave album track just superb!)
07 Supercut (again could grow I reckon)
07 Liability (Reprise) (The worst track for me)

okay I got to The Louvre and HAD to post something.
Isn't it THE BEST SONG OF THE FUCKING YEAR? HOLY SHIT. I waited for a smash but did not expect to be blown away so goddamn hard!!!
The chorus is perfection, the BROADCAST THE BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM AND MAKE 'EM ALL DANCE TO IT parts are lush, the final minute is so special too.
[/lottiesqueloonmode]
YAAAAAAAAASSS STAN
i'm seriously so addicted i have never felt this way about an album release
I was listening to Sober and I almost CACKLED @ the small Xtina "Your Body" sample
This is my album of the year so far
I love how she references lyrics and themes from Pure Heroine and towards the end of Melodrama she's even subtly referencing lyrics from earlier in the album. It's all so rich
'Lorde' is trending worldwide on twitter due to its incredible reviews
So proud
who's ready for an unpopular opinion
Sober II might be the best on the album so far
UNPOPULAR OPINION!
My favourite song on Dangerous Woman is Into You!
okay i'm ready for my rate
10.0 Green Light
10.0 Sober
09.0 Homemade Dynamite
10.0 The Louvre
07.5 Liability
08.0 Hard Feelings
08.5 Loveless
11.0 Sober II (Melodrama)
08.5 Writer In The Dark
09.0 Supercut
09.0 Liability (Reprise)
10.0 Perfect Places
Went to tescos to buy this on CD but they were OUT OF STOCK (!!!) so then had to go to ASDA and luckily I got the 2nd-to-last copy. Blasting it in the car rn, Green Light sounding better than ever!!!!
Homemade Dynamite sounds INCREDIBLE blasted out of the car
(Soz for going into spammy mode, Lotti did it tho so u can let me off )
BOOM BOOMBOOM BOOM
Okay the louvre has completely hit me now and this album keeps growing and growing every listen, had it on repeat all day! <3
Album of the year so far easily
I need to find time to buy a physical copy sometime this week!
This is amazing. I just KNEW it was going to live up to expectations. My favourite pop(ish) album in an absolute age.
92 on metacritic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
'25' wasn't that critically acclaimed though... and this is still early days. I expect it'll stay pretty high though.
Listening now. Kinda have to as it's a part of my job to talk to customers about what they're buying I'm really not a Lorde fan, so this should be interesting. 'Green Light' was a pleasant surprise but lets me down a bit and 'Perfect Places' is probably my fave Lorde song to date. 'Sober', I don't "get" the fuss with.
07.5 - Green Light > Not terrible. I just feel like it lacks the punch in her vocals on the chorus. The production is great though. <
06.0 - Sober
05.0 - Homemade Dynamite
08.5 - The Louvre > THE ENDING THOUGH *.* <
06.0 - Liability
07.0 - Hard Feelings
05.0 - Loveless
06.5 - Sober II (Melodrama)
08.0 - Writer In The Dark > This is lovely. The production is stunning! <
07.5 - Supercut > This gets better as the song goes on! <
07.0 - Liability (Reprise)
09.0 - Perfect Places > I already feel like this is the most underrated song on her album. <
---
Some really nice stuff on here, mainly in the production of it all and considering I'm not a Lorde fan I'd say this ranking and rating is a success! Some might grow on me, but I didn't hate it as much as I thought I would. Ultimately, I just don't "get" the mass appeal with her and I doubt I ever will. I just find her voice unlistenable at times. Sounding bored and miserable most of the time is not my thing.
I shall keep the album "downloaded" so I can listen to it a few more times and hopefully have more of it grow on me! I really think 'Perfect Places', 'Writer In the Dark' & 'The Louvre' could become "essentials" in my playlist!
---
Oh and 'Homemade Dynamite' is overrated to f***. Like, seriously! I found that pretty bland and forgettable!
Omg why are your rates so low
I ended up being busy last night so didn't get to listen to it at bang on midnight. Anyway, about to listen for the first time now. My body is ready. So excited!!
It's 90 on Metacritic now but still the 4th highest of 2017 and top 50 in highest rated overall! I am SO happy that she's slaying everyone with this masterpiece
Listening with Jade rn (my plan to listen last night got a bit derailed ) - 'Homemade Dynamite' is INCRED, think I actually already like it even more than 'Green Light'! And 'The Louvre' is so pretty, especially the outro might try and do a lil rate at the end if I don't just feel like saying 10/10 best song ever for every song xx
Hi
I love Lorde
Bye
Very impressed as I expected to be 'Perfect Places' is my favourite I think (it does have the advantage of like 20+ plays tho), but either 'Homemade Dynamite' or 'Writer In The Dark' have the potential to overtake it. The similarity to Kate Bush in the latter really is uncanny! Which is a very good thing *.* 'The Louvre' also slays hard. The production and lyricism is once again stellar from her throughout. Must get this on vinyl ASAP!!
CONTROVERSIAL OPINION ALERT
I think 'Perfect Places' is actually my least favourite on the album #bradearenotthesameperson. The rest of it is soooo good but I'm not getting too much out of that comparatively, I'm actually pretty glad I didn't listen to it before the album release cos I feel like it might have lowered my hype for this a bit ;o
Quick rate trying not to be too overly hyperbolic ~
11/10 best song ever 'Homemade Dynamite' (hitting me so hard on just one listen, I really hope this is a single!! Shame if it's true that it was going to be but got shelved due to the Manchester bombing :'( the little explosion noise she makes near the end is so cute)
10/10 'Green Light' & 'Liability' (advantage of having heard them more than once obvz, I think 'Liability' is still pretty underrated!)
9.5/10 'The Louvre', 'Supercut' & 'Writer In The Dark' (all could easily become 10/10 with more listens, 'The Louvre' and 'Writer In The Dark' in particular sound like they'll grow more - the Kate Bush influence on the latter is very apparent *.* 'Supercut' sounds the closest to a 'Green Light' clone on this album, I'm so glad it didn't end up being a full album of that as I feel like it could have got a bit boring but this one was done very well)
9/10 'Sober II (Melodrama)' (the trap production *.*)
8.5/10 'Sober'
8/10 'Loveless'
7.5/10 'Liability (Reprise)' (a bit of Bon Iver vibes here) & 'Hard Feelings' (the instrumental near the end really saves this one!)
7/10 'Perfect Places' (don't crucify me pls xx I hope this will grow on me but atm feels like this wasn't a great single choice, 'Homemade Dynamite' (Manchester notwithstanding) and 'Supercut' and even just properly pushing 'Sober' instead would all seem like far better options?)
Gonna do a second listen now anyway because there were a few songs here that sounded like they need more than one listen to fully appreciate. It's all sounding pretty fab tho. Yas quen
Dead 2 me
How I felt when you were hating 'Liability' xx
Hating? Hoe plz I just thought it was okay and overrated and anyway that's not your FAVE of the ENTIRE album is it :'(
you're saved by the fact that your fave is 'Homemade Dynamite' tbh, what a song
2nd listen 'The Louvre' is already hitting me way harder as I hoped. Think I actually prefer this to the singles as well.
edit: also make 'Sober II (Melodrama)' a 9.5/10
edit2: 'Perfect Places' is growing on me, I'll revise it to 4th worst on the album (ahead of 'Loveless', 'Liability (Reprise)' and 'Hard Feelings') xx not a bad song on here tho, I think this album will grow to actually be a bit better than 'Pure Heroine' on the whole <3
updated album rank: Homemade Dynamite > The Louvre > Green Light > Liability > Writer In The Dark > Sober II (Melodrama) > Supercut > Sober > Perfect Places > Loveless > Liability (Reprise) > Hard Feelings
11 Green Light - This is my 2ND favourite song of all time already.
09 Sober
09 Homemade Dynamite
10 The Lourve - CHILLING. IT IS PURE PERFECTION
10 Liability
07.5 Hard Feelings / 07 Loveless
09 Sober ll (Melodrama)
08 Writer in the Dark
10 Supercut
10 Liability (Reprise)
10 Perfect Places
Wait! 'Perfect Places' is the 2nd single?!
I just assumed it was an instant grat?
CONTROVERISAL OPINION: this is a good album
#1 Album WW.
"Lorde did 9/11" - legit Jade quote x
('The Louvre' actually might be becoming my fave on the album now, growing a ton more once again on listen 3! )
https://twitter.com/LordeNews/status/875902340737454082?s=09
NO I AM NOT OK
I would also like to express my fondness for this particular Lorde album.
Cameron just convinced me Lorde was going to be #1 and that she shifted 36k in the first day and I believed him. Ffs
If only </3
She'll get a good number from streams though. What do uthink mdh?
Listened to this album 5 times now so here is my ordering of the songs:

11. Liability (Reprise) (7/10)
12. Hard Feelings (6/10)
slay me queen
Hard Feelings last tho... 👀 👀 👀
I'm disappointed she's only 3 in the midweeks, I thought the hype + critical acclaim would've taken her straight to #1. Being behind Royal Blood and especially Nickelback is an absolute joke.
listened through once and really do not like it. it's all a bit avant garde and over thought for me...
01 Green Light (11/10)
02 Writer In The Dark (10/10)

EVERYONE BE LIKE PAVEL
broadcast the boom boom boom boom and make 'em all buy melodrama on itunes
I managed to nab a signed copy of her website a few month back. So glad I did
This is the first album I've bought on release day since A LONG TIME.
Green Light least favourite?! Is everything ok?
Finally sitting down with my copy now. Currently up to Liability which is probably my favourite after Green Light!
I've been listening pretty much solidly to this for the past couple of days and I'd say my ranking is something along the lines of:
01 The Louvre
02 Green Light
03 Sober II (Melodrama)
04 Writer In The Dark
05 Sober

Just finished - quite a few stand out tracks. Perfect Places, Sober II (Melodrama), Liability and Green Lights are the definite favourites!
Sober II (Melodrama) hit me today
New rate after a few listens
11 Green Light
10 Sober
10 Homemade Dynamite
11 The Lourve
10 Liability
08 Hard Feelings / 07.5 Loveless
11 Sober ll (Melodrama)
08.5 Writer in the Dark
10 Supercut
10 Liability (Reprise)
10 Perfect Places
Omg why are your rates so high
It's just SO perfect. 2nd favourite album of all time
...it's been out three days.
It is a great album though 💁🏼♂️
Yes and it only needed 3 days
Ha, can't argue with that.
Anyone else wish that 'Sober II (Melodrama)' was the album closer? The way it ends and fades out would be the most perfect way to end the album.
My only other complaint about the album is that I just wish they made 'Hard Feelings' and 'Loveless' different songs. I can't help but feel that 'Loveless' somewhat stalls the wonderful mood that 'Hard Feelings' builds up.
Apart from that, the album is so brilliant. After letting it settle in I would rate it now as follows:
10.0 Green Light
08.5 Sober
10.0 Homemade Dynamite
09.0 The Louvre
08.0 Liability
10.0 Hard Feelings
07.0 Loveless
11.0 Sober II (Melodrama)
08.5 Writer In The Dark
10.0 Supercut
09.0 Liability (Reprise)
10.0 Perfect Places
I'll take Homemade Dynamite and Sober II (Melodrama) (and obvs Green Light) but the rest can be trashed.
he'll learn
Starts at #5 in the midweeks with (10.8k) sold.
Quite underwhelming for me, personally.
Really lovely album. 'The Louvre' and 'Homemade Dynamite' are my favourites. The former in particular is painfully relatable :'(
2nd favourite album of all day.
(behind Ctrl)
Surely its too early to say that?? Still 2 hours 40 minutes to go, at least give it time to settle. :/
The Louvre, Homemade Dynamite, Green Light, Liability and Writer In The Dark are all 11/10
Writer in the dark is just wonderful, still will check out the album in full soon. Liability grew on me so much after her radio 1 big weekend performance too. Safe to say I'm coming round to being a fan this era *.*
I quite enjoyed the debut album but this is a fantastic album a quick rank:
1. Green Light
2. Homemade Dynamite
3. Liability
4. Sober
5. Perfect Places
6. The Louvre
7. Sober II (Melodrama)
8. Supercut
9. Liability (Reprise)
10. Writer in the Dark
11. Hard Feelings
12. Loveless
The top 8 are all really great, less fussed with the bottom four right now (and I echo the sentiment about how it'd be better for Hard Feelings and Loveless to be separate, even if they're my two least faves).
Gone up to 90 on Metacritic, previously 89.
The more I listen to this, the more I think this is '1989's darker sister.
Been listening to this album the past couple of days - whilst it's not the life-shattering experience it has been for others, I do find this a very solid album with some truly great moments. 'Green Light' remains my favourite as it's one of 2017's strongest pop songs with such a huge burst of euphoria which is hard to find in music now, but the likes of 'Writer in the Dark' and 'Supercut' have immediately taken to my heart. I adore the Kate Bush-lite vocals on the former and they are absolutely breathtaking in that live acapella clip Liam posted.
I agree with Bre that 'Liability' seems pretty underrated. When I first heard it, I remember it stopping me in my tracks and I was just caught up in the raw emotion of it all. 'Perfect Places' is a great album closer and I hope it can do something as a single.
Controversial but 'Sober', 'Homemade Dynamite' and 'The Louvre' aren't hitting me in the same way they are everyone else. They're good songs, of course, but they make the second half of the album generally more exciting for me. Definitely got the chance to grow on me, though.
I think 'Liability' has actually possibly even overtaken 'Green Light' in my faves - it sounds so good on the album, the run of 'Homemade Dynamite'/'The Louvre'/'Liability' is so perfect
Still obsessed with The Louvre and Homemade Dynamite. Liability is so much better in context with the album, I didn't like it before.
Critics slayedT
Sober II (Melodrama) gives me Zara Larsson 'Funeral' teas, especially at the start.
Might do an updated rate in a bit
Oh I like Green Light now even if it is commercial and has song writing problems.
Is the rest of the album overproduced and commercial with song writing failures like Green Light?
WHAT A f***ING RECORD
i was wrong before...the quality of her lyrics are second to none
INCREDIBLE
Melodrama on iTunes -
62. Green Light
182. Perfect Places
380. Sober
477. Liability
701. The Louvre
928. Supercut
1089. Homemade Dynamite
1094. Writer In the Dark
'Writer In The Dark' is definitely Kate Bush-inspired, love it!
Even Lorde admits Green Light has an unusual structure, thats what Max Martin meant, not that it's a songwriter's failure... he said the same about Lana del Rey's Lust for Life, it's cos the songs have an unorthodox song order, with a pre-chorus that is almost a chorus
a songwriter's failure is when you rhyme "I don't want to see a ghost/I'd rather have a piece of toast" not this...
Debuts at 5
Very happy with that.
She's destined to join the acclaimed but not massive sellers group with Robyn, Solange, Carly etc.
Must've been so close to #3 seeing as she was outselling #3 and #4 by the end of the week.
---
I wouldn't say she's in Carly's category.... she just had a decent sized hit with longevity so she isn't there yet. Plus, none of those artists you mentioned can sell >15K week one anymore
Which is a compliment more than anything.
Oops, misread that - sorry!
---
Debuted with 17,026 copies which is underwhelming for me personally
Those opening sales are ok, her audience is so streaming driven. It will outsell Witness and probably Dua Lipa and maybe So Good too although the last one has held on pretty well.
She's having a big gig in Glastonbury too.
Updated rate - sticking to only one 11
11 Green Light
10 Sober
10 Homemade Dynamite
10 The Lourve

09.5 Hard Feelings / 08 Loveless
10 Sober ll (Melodrama)

10 Perfect Places
Debuts at #1 in the US with 109K. That's 25k more than what was predicted!!
At least the US appreciates ha *.*
Decided to dedicate my 8000th post to this life-defining album x <3
Obviously there's not one dull moment to be heard here. On first listen the songs that stood out were 'Sober' (which I'd heard once before) and 'Liability (Reprise)', but what I liked most was the overall sequencing and especially the gradual buildup from 'Supercut' to 'Liability (Reprise)' to 'Perfect Places' - which I never would've expected at the end of the tracklist but WHAT a moment to end on! All the songs are growing on further listens, I'd say 'Supercut' is growing on me faster than the rest. I could not be happier with this album and I'm elated to see it at #1 in the US!
OFFICIAL UK CHARTS
Melodrama// 5-11
ckndnalxk my djnds
Omg I'd be ripped to shreds if I did that
I HAVE NO MEMORY OF DOING THAT IM SO SORRY
wtf lotti :')
and where are the spamwhore comments and -1's on the rate and slander like what you did with cqmerqn
double standards!!!
My favourite album of the year! 'The Louvre' really is something else
I love some tracks (Green Light, Melodrama, Writer in the Dark) and then have no time for some tracks (Supercut, Hard Feelings/Loveless, Liability Reprise). Probably won't be my favourite release of the year, but certainly my favourite so far.
Lotti ffs 55 posts
I hate you, I had to delete them all via my phone as well.
How does that even happen though, did you fall asleep on the refresh button or something xx
Haven't posted in here until I got a proper feel for the album but I am loving it! For me there's no duds at all on here which is something that I really look for in an album! So glad it's been getting critical acclaim too I think 'Green Light' is my absolute favourite due to the number of times I've heard it and let's disjointedness sink in with me but I am also a massive fan of Homemade Dynamite, The Louvre, Liability and Perfect Places (so basically half the album).
side note: Sober II is the perfect album closer I don't know what they were playing at by putting Perfect Places at the end - I mean it's a decent closer but COME ON.
Homemade Dynamite is my fav by far
Followed by Supercut and Sober
Bit tired of Green Light
Perfect Places is ok but not sure
If it was the right 2nd single
Homemade would have been better
Maybe with a re-name
Perfect Places is #307 on iTunes. WHY.
WRITER IN THE DARK RESUSCITATE ME OMG
This album in general f*** me
I can't believe I only just gave it a listen 😫
had a MOMENT with hard feelings when driving home yday. I'm talking tears whilst driving down a motorway bc my baby did that

Why the climb this week?
Thanks!
Did you guys saw her adorable performance with Jack Antonoff at Outside Lands 2017 in San Francisco?
yes! read she also performed Dynamite somewhere with Tove Lo
She's done a series of performances with Vevo for tracks from the album.
AMAZING
<3
i've become obsessed with 'the louvre' recently...
Fan of Melodrama?

Apparently, a music video of "Homemade Dynamite" is coming soon.
Why aren't the singles from this album smashing more?! I appreciate "Green Light" had longevity but for "Perfect Places" to not make any sort of impression at all when it was pushed as a single is really disappointing. Her VMA performance was also very odd, why wasn't she singing?
She had really bad flu but still wanted to perform!
I love her for just being like f*** it and dancing instead
No, I can't see Capital supporting any more of her singles unless she manages to make one a hit without them. They were very reluctant with Green Light.
Perfect Places is amazing, it deserved better.
She seems more of an albums artist tbh. Similar to Lana Del Rey.
How many albums has this sold Joe?
I love that she decided to just dance at the VMAs instead of cancelling her performance. Ha presence was much needed *.*
queen of life really tbh
the problem with Perfect places is that she released the video 3 months too late
they need to syncronize things better with Homemade Dynamite, which is her best single ever!!!!
Very unique artist
Supposedly a new single version of Homemade Dynamite feat. Khalid, Post Malone & SZA is coming.
Not sure if this is true or not but I'll go with it being true cos I remember there was rumours of a Khalid HD feature about a month ago!
I'm here for Khalid & SZA but Post Malone...really? It seems like they're trying to help this take off in the US as all 3 are pretty hot right now
Lorde really works best on her own. If she's going to go for features, I'd prefer a stand-alone single like "Meltdown" which is actually really good but adding three vocalists to an existing song really will be too many cooks.
This is confirmed and coming tomorrow!
Omg *.* hyped for this x (especially if it actually does help it take off - Khalid in particular seems to be doing really well in the USA with several different songs at the moment!)
Like what exactly is a Post Malone? Are we living in a post-Malone world? I honestly could not think of a less relevant artist to make her more relevant x
Nice artwork though.
Lorde and SZA on a song together. This is almost too good to be true
I assume Post Malone is on the track because he and Lorde are on Republic.
Either way, I'm looking forward to this.
I mean Post Malone has had a pretty massive hit single recently and a reasonably successful album. He's a more 'relevant' name from a chart perspective than SZA at least (but all 3 of the features have had hit singles and high selling albums recently in the USA).
'Homemade Dynamite' is 11/10 perfection on its own so I hope these features will slay. Hyped anyway and really hope it can be a hit.
Intrigued to hear this in full.
Post Malone's debut album Stoney has reached #6 in the US and certified platinum.
He has had one top ten and one further top 20 hit in the states.
All three features have been more successful with their recent albums in the US than Lorde, this is like dream team of 2017 for her new single.
Ohhh really thought she was gonna re-do it with tove lo, since shes a cowriter
But thats prob better in terms of chances of chart success
Now it needs a video soon not in 5 months time like perfect places
Post Malone is shite but yaaass at SZA
When is this out? It's Friday in Lorde's home Nz
Really liking the remix
Probably helps that I love all the featured artists already.
Not that different to the original really and I'm not sure it was really necessary but I'm liking it all the same.
SZA is the star for sure.
The remix is surprisingly decent, really like it
This would've been perfect without Khalid.
SZA and Post Malone suit it incredibly well, especially Post Malone!
I like Khalid but he really didn't do well here at all. SZA and Post Malone both have great parts.
I was worried that the remix might sound a bit messy and over-crowded but it does really work. I actually think Khalid sounds most at home on this but all three additions slot in pretty well and hopefully the added star power can make this a hit of sorts.
I think I'll probably still go back to the original mainly though as it was pretty perfect to begin with and this new version doesn't have enough Lorde for me
This remix works pretty well, I was kind of struggling to imagine how a Lorde/Post Malone collaboration would sound but his part does actually fit in fine (though probably the weakest of the 3 features for me, I really liked SZA's verse + I love the Khalid/Lorde chorus *.)
Overall not really an improvement on the original or anything but it's good enough for what it is!
I actually really like this, I wouldn't say it's entirely better than the original but I prefer the remix personally. Mainly because without the three features this would likely not have any chart success anywhere, which is fully deserves - features or no features. A fav from the album
So having finally listened to the remix, it's completely sucked the life out of the song for me. Lorde is barely featured and they completely cut out the final chorus after "Now you know it's really gonna blow"?! What a joke
Yep, agreed here too... it's not my absolute fave on the album anyway but the new version doesn't really work for me at all.
Anyone seeing her on tour? I really want to go but tickets have sold out and 3rd party sites are so expensive
nope its so irritating literally if she was performing just a couple of weeks later I would've been able to go
I saw her live in Brixton a couple years back and she was absolutely phenomenal. I won't be seeing her this time as I have a few artists I'd like to see for a first time really (and now living in a city hopefully makes this possible! ) but I would 100% urge people to go if they can.
I imagine the Melodrama songs would add to the set list immensely too (I'd love to see Perfect Places & Writer In the Dark live especially)
Sadly the clashing of her & other events means I can’t go! But I saw her at R1 so I’ve seen some ‘melodrama’ tracks brought to life.
Josh I was there too!!!!
Going with Lindsey and Liam this Wednesday *.*
Green Light is amazing!
I was at the Manchester concert tonight, not a *massive* fan of her but she’s great to watch live!
She didn’t do Homemade Dynamite, I’ll be interested to see if it was a Manchester-only decision - she also made a heartbreaking speech about the Ariana incident - or if she’ll avoid it altogether. I imagine it was just a Manchester set-list decision.
^How bizarre. She's performing Live Lounge tomorrow and I would've assumed she would perform that but maybe she'll do "Green Light" instead as her 'current' track?
I would have loved to have seen her on tour but I already saw her at Glastonbury which was a *.* moment (and felt like a self contained Lorde concert) although I barely knew Melodrama at the time. Does she use the staging with the see-through tilting box?
she needs the video now, not in 3 months like perfect places
People actually set off a bomb using Homemade Dynamite in London like 2 weeks ago, so I think this'll be the reason she didn't sing it.
Anyway,
She did perform "Green Light" along with a cover of "In the Air Tonight" - it wasn't my favourite live performance of hers and the cover wasn't her best either, oops.
So much for doing the "latest single"... should've been Perfect Places at least
I wouldn't have minded so much but the fact most artists have done three songs minimum and she only did two really annoyed me.
Liability is challenging for my fave on the album after the concert tbh, it's so stunning especially with her little story explanation <3
Yeah it was meant to be released as a promo single about 2 days after the Manc attack and because of that it got cancelled...
new music?
http://www.nme.com/news/music/lorde-teases-new-music-with-song-snippet-2146348?utm_content=manual&utm_campaign=socialflow&utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_term=nme
I genuinely think Green Light is cementing itself as my favourite song EVER. It still hits me so hard
Melodrama has now been certified as Silver in the UK.
I really hope this goes Gold.
Happy birthday, Lorde! Now you can buy alcohol in US
Nominated for Album of the Year at the Grammys :cheeseblock: x
She should definitely get it, it actually is the bst album of the eligibility year (best album of 2017 bar Reputation) *.*
Bar The XX!!
Listened to the album for a few times but it's style over substance for me. Some tracks are fantastic like Supercut and Perfect Places.
no word on the next single?
Thought they woulda went for a ballad like The Writer as a Christmas single?! Maybe waiting until the brits for the next one!
I really want a re-release
She doesn't need a winter ballad and the album is perfect as it is. She's clearly an indie fave and not a singles artist, Royals convinced people otherwise.
I just look forward to her pushing her artistry further in the future.
🗣 I CANNOT BELIEVE LORDE IS TOURING WITH MITSKI
Yeah she’s not a single artist. Green Light was a hit in the UK but that’s about it.
The album sold OK so it’s all good.
At least she’s had three #1’s and eight Top 20’s in New Zealand
Have you seen how many end-of-year lists this is topping amongst the critics? It's definitely going to be the most acclaimed album of the year with Kendrick. Deserved
And I have both!
It would generally help her album if it got good airplay from radio 1/2 surely?
Yeh like Pink/Ed etc are releasing songs at this time which sells their albums so makes sense to release something and The Writer would have been perfect for this time of year for me!
Israel’s ambassador to New Zealand has invited Lorde to meet him after the singer cancelled her concert in Tel Aviv.
Not sure which country, but there has been a double page article about her in the newpaper in Tel Aviv? It really isn’t nice at all. Poor Lorde :/
Better news... Royals is now DIAMOND in the US!
basically she cancelled a show in Israel and the Israeli embassy in New Zealand wrote her a latter saying they were upset with this and they wanted to talk to her about it in person (which was a very fair reply tbh, you can see it on Twitter) - but then one of the big newspapers from the capital of Israel suggested it was some sort of hate protest against Israel from the western world, which is complete bullshit.
Lorde is free to play concerts wherever and wherever she wants, and to change her mind if she doesn't want to play in a particular country for whatever reason. Having said that, if she cancels a gig in Israel on "human rights" grounds, yet is still booked to play two concerts on her tour in that known bastion of free expression, Russia, then it does open herself up to accusations of double standards.
I am with her on this. Russia continues to get sanctioned by the international community - Israel less so. She's spreading awareness and being far braver than most people in her position. We'll see if she cancels the shows in Russia.
I'm still so bothered with the handling of this album. I really think she was in the position for a cult-like Frank Ocean drop instead of trying to navigate a very standard album campaign in 2017. She was clearly not a singles artist, and Royals really tricked people into thinking that. Did they expect Green Light to be a massive hit? It sounds massive, but it's not exactly the most chart or streaming friendly track.
Releasing Green Light the same week as Ed Sheeran was unfortunate, and then the long wait until the album... Eek. Would have loved Green Light and Melodrama to have dropped together, all the hype from the critics, it could have pushed it better than a traditional rollout. Even promoting Perfect Places over the autumn could have been good.
Green Light would’ve debuted at 13 in the UK if it wasn’t for Ed’s album
the album campaign was super messy
releasing perfect places a couple weeks before the album but releasing the video like 4 months later when the buzz had gone
not putting a video for homemade dynamite etc etc
This may be a personal gripe because I pay next to no attention to charts any more but who cares? Singles charts seem to be getting more irrelevant by the year. The album got to #5 in the UK, #1 in the US, sold hundreds of thousands of copies (in this age of streaming) in many different countries and received near universal critical acclaim. I think she's doing ok.
She did well to have a hit as big as 'Green Light' again tbh, she's not a singles artist ('Royals' and to some extent 'Team' aside).
She’s like SZA but sells. SZA is very critically acclaimed so it doesn’t matter how much she sells.
Lorde is critically acclaimed and manages to sell very well, so she has the best of both worlds.
SZA's album did pretty well in the States as well tbf.
i'd say she's moderately acclaimed and sells moderately well
She's definitely more than 'moderately' acclaimed, 'Melodrama' has a score of 91 on Metacritic and has been top 10 in a ton of critics' end of year lists.
I would have agreed with moderately acclaimed until released the (very close) third most acclaimed album of the year.
Any news on single 4? I'd predict "Supercut".
I highly doubt we'll get another single, sadly.
Yeah I think so too. Been a good era tho.
Yeah Ctrl did pretty well I think
145,370 Sza
171,500 Lorde
I think streaming has Sza ahead though with SPS
It has, gold and I don't think Melodrama has been cerftified Although US album certifications are skewed as they include the stupid equivalent sales thing, so it is probably gold from streams and sales of Love Galore and The Weekend, which are platinum. I really don't get the comparison anyway, both criticially acclaimed albums but they aren't similar genres or at similar points of their career.
I thought Lorde sold a lot more! Debuted with over 100k yet only sold 170k to date?
There's a new remix of 'Supercut' featuring Run The Jewels (who are supporting her tour in North America) - very different to the original, might as well just be an RTJ song sampling the original, but pretty awesome *.*
https://gallery.mailchimp.com/17fd14c80b6498e9b83a718af/files/bf6e45a1-48a4-4824-8e95-23a46f64d947/Supercut_feat._Run_The_Jewels_El_P_Remix_.mp3
Ooh that version is actually better than the original for me! I found the 'Homemade Dynamite' remix to be a massive disappointment so hooray for one reworking from this era being worth it. 'Homemade Dynamite' is my 11 from this album though, whereas 'Supercut' is 'only' an 8 so it had more room for improvement I guess.
It's one year since green light today!! A modern classic <3
It’s so incredibly annoying that the Homemade Dynamite remx flopped. Post Malone, Khalid, and SZA have all had at least 1 Top 5 hit since Homemade Dynamite and I am certain that if she released it now, it would stand a chance at being a huge hit. Lorde has been repetitively screwed over her whole campaign, not necessarily to anyone’s fault, but she could’ve had much bigger hits than she has done which is a shame
If the HD Remix was released AFTER Rockstar, then it probably would’ve been a hit!
They messed up the single releases after green light, especially perfect places with the video coming up six months too late
Pretty sure that if Dynamite had been released a bit later and with more promo it would have been huge
I personally would love a new remixed/revamped version of The Louvre
Why does it need to be remix? Green Light and Perfect Places on their own were fab!
easier to sell a post album single if it has a new fetured artist, especially if single #2 and #3 have flopped
Not a fan of this remix :/
I like this but it's not gonna be a hit anywhere
I don't think that was the point... pretty sure it's just something she's put out because of her touring with RTJ.
Tis now on YouTube anyway ~
I saw Lorde yesterday at All Points East festival in London and she was fantastic! So good to hear Melodrama tracks live and the crowd were really into it as well.
And this has now been out a year!!!! Still such an epic album that I go back to all the time <3 <3
If I was to rank this now I think I'd go:
1) Green Light
2) Perfect Places
3) Homemade Dynamite
4) Supercut
5) Sober
6) Sober II (Melodrama)
7) Liability
8) Writer In The Dark
9) Liability (Reprise)
10) The Louvre
11) Hard Feelings/Loveless
Every song bar HF/L is still 10/10 minimum for me and HF/L is still 9/10 *.*
1 year since I had to cancel my plan to listen to this the second it came out because I accidentally headbutted a doorframe and nearly gave myself a concussion (lol)
1 The Louvre 15/10
2 Liability 11/10
3 Homemade Dynamite 11/10
4 Writer In The Dark 10/10
5 Green Light 10/10
6 Sober II (Melodrama) 9.5/10
7 Supercut 9/10
8 Sober 8/10
9 Loveless 7.5/10
10 Perfect Places 7.5/10
11 Liability (Reprise) 7/10
12 Hard Feelings 5/10
'Liability' has just grown on me more and more over time, although it's not ever going to overtake 'The Louvre'. 'Perfect Places' has warmed on me a little since the album came out but I still think it's easily her weakest single oops ~
(the El-P remix of 'Supercut' would come in 4th there, shame that went by pretty much completely unnoticed, not that I expected otherwise)
I heard 'Supercut' recently and it's SO good. I dare say the best thing she's done?
01 Green Light
02 Hard Feelings
03 The Louvre
04 Perfect Places
05 Sober
06 Supercut
07 Liability
08 Writer in the Dark
09 Homemade Dynamite
10 Liability (Reprise)
11 Sober II (Melodrama)
If I had to choose an order, but really I love every single song and think they're all vital for the album. Hard Feelings will forever choke me up, and then that insane middle eight. Perfect. I hate to seem like such a stan but it's probably one of my favourite albums ever at this point - something I rarely say about recent music too.
I definitely need to listen to this again, I'm pretty sure I've only listened to Perfect Places and Homemade Dynamite at all this year from her Such a brilliant album though I can't believe it's already been a year!
This has been BRIT Certified Gold! Still holds up so well a year later - I adore every track (minus "Writer"). Hopefully the next campaign's singles are dealt with a lot better than this one's because she really deserves more hitz.
Ok whoever made this glorious Powerpoint presentation needs an award for investigative journalism or something:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rFJuHw8zQ0iBkcYQNr6FABPvW0Rm4RW2/view
Listening to this for the first time in a while and whew — what a stunning record. Perhaps one of my all-time favourites.
The anticipation for whatever comes next is through the roof.
