How I compile my charts:

With a few exceptions, I don't go out of my way to seek out new songs - I usually wait until I hear them on the radio. I mainly listen to Radio 1 and for this reason, most (though not all) songs in my chart are those which are played on Radio 1. I don't usually add a song to my chart until it's started gaining some airplay.

Songs generally tend to climb gradually as they grow on me, peak and then fall fast, so the chart looks similar to an 80s/90s singles chart. I also usually get bored of a song within a few weeks, so songs don't generally tend to hang around the chart for more than a few weeks - typically around 9 or 10 weeks for a Number 1.


This week's chart commentary:
* Despite their collaboration with Tourist leaving the Top 40 this week after peaking at #23, Years & Years' excellent 'King' climbs to #4 to give them their first Top 10 hit.
* Maroon 5 climb to #19 with 'Sugar' and even if it doesn't eventually go Top 10, it still keeps intact their 100% Top 20 strike rate.
* It's a similar story for The Vaccines; none of their singles have missed the Top 20 yet, and 'Handsome' climbs to #20 this week to keep that record intact.
