BuzzJack Music Forum _ Indie, Rock and Alternative _ Coldplay Singles Survivor: Round 3

Posted by: Chez Wombat 12th November 2019, 09:09 PM

Thank you to all who voted in the last round!

Eliminated:

28. Atlas (12/32 votes, 18.75%)

By a hefty margin, Atlas is the next elimination. A non-album single recorded for the soundtrack to Hunger Games: Catching Fire in Autumn 2013. It was the first song ever written specifically for a film by Coldplay and it charted in sixteen countries and won a Hollywood Film Award. It was at the time their first new release in almost two years and reached #12 here though I recall it's descent being swift as it usually is for movie tracks. I was underwhelmed by it at the time and I still am now, it's just really dull, never builds to anything and stays in monotone throughout which doesn't help, but it's OK as it did its job of reminding us they're still alive before Ghost Stories a few months later, we need never speak of this again x

27. Life in Technicolor II (9/32 votes, 14/06%)

Joining that is their first pre-2010 song to depart and it's certainly one that's easy to forget coming after the monster hit Viva la Vida from the album of (almost) the same name, and only scraping the UK top 30. A vocal version of Life in Technicolor that was originally an instrumental. The instrumental is great on its own and while this version retains the interesting instrumentation with the use of santoor and tabla resembling Strangelove by Depeche Mode, it's a fairly pointless remake overall and pales next to other glorious cuts off that album like Lovers in Japan (just planning to keep mentioning that in every round, don't mind me).

27. Life in Technicolor II (9/32, 14.06%)
28. Atlas (12/32, 18.75%)
29. Something Just Like This (w/ The Chainsmokers) (9/29, 14.06%)
30. Miracles (Someone Special) (w/ Big Sean) (11/29, 17.19%)

This round will be another double elimination so please continue to vote for your TWO least favourite songs, you have until Friday afternoon or so.

Gutted that Life In Technicolor II has gone out, forever underrated. sad.gif

The instrumental on the album is obviously a highlight but I think it works really well with the vocals too!

Getting this almost entirely correct so far, great stuff! Just save Lost! this round :'(

Potentially unpopular/voting this for ages, but Hymn for the Weekend is my next choice, I never really got into this as much as others and it did suffer from overplay and not particularly fond memories associated with it.

After that, it's getting evil now but going with Charlie Brown, others on the list do what it does better and there was much better on the album.

Not here for Hymn For The Weekend amassing votes. It's 10x better than the extremely boring Adventure Of A Lifetime sad.gif

Also throwing Everglow a vote this time.

Not that I'm surprised but I'm gutted that 'Atlas' is out so early sad.gif I have such a soft spot for it. Went for 'Lost!' and 'Everglow'.

I love Atlas. Such an underrated gem!

Went for POC and Lost this time.

Their feet touched the ground </3 x (I knew the vocal version of 'Life In Technicolor' before the instrumental so maybe that's why I don't share the 'it's better without vocals' sentiment x)

Still going with 'Everglow' and... I thought I'd be going for 'Lost!' here but after reminding myself of it the other day I don't think I want to contribute to it being booted, I'll give my second vote to 'Christmas Lights' (which is actually among my favourite Christmas songs lol but unlike the rest of the songs here it's only an essential for about 2 and a half months in each year which is my justification xx it's kind of hard to compare to the rest really)

edit: looks like 'Lost!' actually has a chance of surviving another round, currently in 2nd but a couple of songs are creeping up to it.

Where on earth have all these Shiver votes come from? ohmy.gif This should be cancelled if it goes out this round. sad.gif

Posted by: Bjork 14th November 2019, 09:58 AM

it's the same on the David Guetta vote, track #1 is more visible and people vote for it biggrin.gif

poor Atlas, I kinda like it, there's much worst still hanging on

Posted by: #Justice4Wonho 14th November 2019, 08:04 PM

went for Fix You and Everglow

I don’t even remember Shiver lmao

(speaking of Everglow stream Adios and Bon Bon Chcolat)

Posted by: Bré 14th November 2019, 08:04 PM

'Shiver' is probably like the least well-known song here to be fair.

Need someone to break the deadlock for our second elimination! Otherwise, I may get rid of all three ohmy.gif
