I'm hoping your track record of predictions means you're wrong re: Foxes.

Foxes COULD scrape the top 10, if she's very lucky. I'm team her. 'Body Talk' is sensational.
'See You Again' and 'Hey Mama' are album only on Now 91 if anyone cares. I've cherry-picked 'I really like you', 'Shine' and 'Talking Body' to help give them boosts.

Whenever this happens, try replacing 'livepopbars' with 'livepopbars2' in the URL. That usually fixes it. It won't be down for long anyway, this does happen from time to time.

Wait, what?!? It was going to be released on August 28 instead. Anyway, I guess the reason they have brought forward the release is because the song is going to be premiered on Monday https://twitter.com/disclosure/status/624308988360835072 early today/yesterday (depending of the time zones).

I reckon the Sigma track is going to stall once it gets inside the top 10. Didn't realise Aston is also featured on the NOW compilation album... hmmm not sure if it chart higher than top 20 though, without hardly any streaming sales. Hoping Foxes charts inside the top 10, its a great track, I actually prefer it over the Sigma/Ella new release.

Aston will be flying up the charts now in a similar way to how 5SOS did last week, as a front loaded fan buy to begin with that then stabilises and falls down towards the end of the week. I'm kind of rooting for him to do well in a weird way, there's always been something kind of likeable with the JLS guys in my eyes, being available on NOW will definitely help his cause too.

Faithless feat Avicii – Insomnia (Avicii Remix)
This song being re-released... AGAIN!
I wish someone better than Avicii got to do the remix though. He did the remix for when Rapture got re-released too.
With regards to Aston fans multi-buying, they could also multi-buy by downloading the song from different sites. However, I think very few would go through that much effort. Ella Henderson fans have a much easier time with multi-buying with that remix EP to cherry-pick from (although likewise I doubt many would go through all that).

Because, and I'd imagine this to be the case of most people you ask who are hardcore fans of predominantly 'fanbase' driven acts like Mr Merrygold, it's supporting that artist and showing their dedication through multiple purchases to maximise their first week chart impact.
I do always find it a little strange that fanbase driven acts - predominantly boybands or certain male solo artists with fans who are predominantly young teenage girls - always get a kicking or deemed 'desperate' or whatever else for releasing on multiple formats or not having 'Thinking Out Loud'-esque chart runs beyond their debut position etc.
Funny also, that any one of the artists with a forum of their own (again, predominantly girl groups) on here can pull off similar sales tactics on first week out and that's OK. Not that there is anything wrong with that either, it just seems to be rather double standard-y to me.
The official chart is there to represent what's been popular in that particular week gone with buyers and fans from all walks of life and of all artists. Snobbery towards demographics of fanbases for different artists are surely irrelevant now? Maybe it's wishful thinking on my part.

Sigma should be #1, especially if the horrendous Changing can reach that position - Glitterball actually is a brilliant song.

Run Away With Me finally making good progress, could do very well once Radio 1 starts supporting it (which I'm assuming they will?)
Glitterball heading for #2 on itunes then as expected hopefully streaming + the NOW! effect can keep it down? (even if poor Foxes will likely be hammered by it :'()

I'm pretty sure this will reach #11 by tomorrow morning. Hopefully it will eventually get into the top 10 on iTunes if not officially.
Get Stupid is no longer green. I think it will be down-hill from now on.

Looking at it from a detached point of view, many won't see a huge difference between Higher and Glitterball. Hardly surprising that the majority here choose the record vocalised by Ella Henderson over Labrinth
Neither are as good as Nobody to Love or Changing, so its surprising why this new one is doing so well.

Heard 'Body Talk' for the first time earlier - so painfully average and just there. Nothing going for it at all, i am surprised it has so many fans (unless it's a song that grabs you with repeated listens?).
Anyway, absolutely brilliant for Carly after ~1 play on Radio 1! A huge smash in the waiting with the right support

even if 'Higher' was sung by a female vocalist it still wouldn't be very good. For me at least it's not Labrinth that was the problem just that the song is very non event.

I find them miles apart. The chorus is ten times better in Glitterball and I have NOTHING against Labrinth. Even the general public is preferring this to the road-kill that was Higher, so I don't think it's just about the artists.

I agree re. Foxes and that it's pretty "average" for the mass adoration it's getting (even if I do really like it myself), but I think the reason why it hit so hard for me (and possibly others?) is that I had literally NO expectations from it or her. So it was such a great listen. It's been waning more and more on me the more I listen to it, but I put that down to the fact that Brandon and Carly have got this whole 80's new wave sound down to a tee and they're pretty much the two albums I'm constantly playing atm.

Not sure that's quite true Besides, in real life the reactions I've witnessed are that Higher was a forgettable track, but people still liked Labrinth. Glitterball is seen as watered down, pop music. To an extent, so were Nobody To Love and Changing, but they were almost universally loved.
Of course, what I've seen doesn't speak for the whole music-listening population! It is however an alternative and valid opinion, just like everybody else's.

Yes. It just seems the act of downloading songs seems to be more popular to the younger generation!

People who don't have iTunes or Spotify accounts still listen to music though don't they? Often, what is popular amongst them is not directly related to what's in the chart.
There's been plenty of debate on here on how stations like Capital have too much influence into what's a hit - just because Capital doesn't play a song doesn't make it unpopular That excludes songs like The Motto, Rack City or Au Seve which never charted but were obviously popular songs.
Anyone who thinks the charts are a 100% representaion as to what's popular is sorely mistaken!

Its still a system open to manipulation. Everyone knows how label hold songs back so they achieve a high 'peak' position only to tumble down the chart after. You can't tell me songs like that are genuinely popular, they are simply a high seller on a certain week.
I guarentee that Glitterball is not one of the ten most popular songs in the country this week, as this doesn't take into account songs that aren't released yet, but are already popular like the Silento or Sigala songs.

Glitterball is NICE, the hook is way stronger than that of Higher. I'm a Labrinth fan but his vocals are incredibly boring and unexciting in Higher, whereas Ella's voice brings Glitterball to life. I'd say it's actually my fave Sigma track to date, the first two singles tired on me really quickly.

I think you're putting words in my mouth slightly, I never said the opinions of '12 people' are more valid than the charts
I'm just trying to say that the chart isn't an exact barometer of what is popular as there are plenty of people unrepresented by them and songs that are quite clearly popular in certain age groups that don't chart.

What's often quite interesting is to estimate which non-hits are popular and well-known by the people you speak to. Because we'll all have songs that seem to us to be more popular than the charts suggest, they'll probably be different songs depending on who you hang around with. From my experiences, things like Elbow, Pink Floyd and Muse would still be the most popular bands in the country and I doubt I'd ever hear anyone mention that they liked or even the existence of half of all 2015 chart hits, particularly not ones that haven't even gone on sale yet.
So I am agreeing with you MLHammer on that. The charts may be flawed as popularity barometers, they'll always be flawed, but they're the best we've got.
And I see barely any difference between Higher and Glitterball either, both represent a major downgrade from what Sigma were capable with with their debut.

I think that if every song that is on pre-order now was released to join the list of songs that are available to buy already (i.e. there being no such thing as a pre-order) "Marvin Gaye" by Charlie Puth would be #1 and "Easy Love" by Sigala would be #2.

Heard 'Body Talk' for the first time earlier - so painfully average and just there. Nothing going for it at all, i am surprised it has so many fans (unless it's a song that grabs you with repeated listens?).
Oh gosh, I am very surprised that you don't like it! Please keep with it, it's gorgeous.

I never expected Sigma and Ella to challenge for iTunes #1, but it looks like they are near on certain to get there tomorrow (well later today)! Foxes looks safe for an iTunes top 10 peak too.

Glitterball now at 0.9! But still along way to go, and I'm not sure it's getting that much AirPlay atm.
Amazed it's done so well especially as there seems to be a preorder issue on iTunes.

Pre-orders don't count to the iTunes chart upon release anymore though, if anything it would help 'Glitterball' via the small number of people noticing their pre-orders didn't work and re-purchasing it. (if I've understood right)

Exactly right there's no point in holding back songs so high in pre orders even if they are released as soon as the get C listed on radio 1!
Surely selling 30-100k sales each week on the build up to the end of August is better than selling a few thousand a week by having a pre order which obv stifles sales and then upon release jumps artificially in near the top of the chart selling at most 130k in a week!

I really hope Carly promotes in the UK with a couple of live performances as its performance right now shows how huge this could be. I'm guessing On Air/ On Sale is working well for Carly.

Never thought I'd see Sigma at #1 on iTunes again! 'Glitterball' has built up a decent-ish lead already, could be coming for sales #1 (though I assume Little Mix will still be #1 overall). Yet to hear it but people saying it sounds the same as 'Higher' doesn't give me much hope, 'Higher' is one of the most forgettable 'hits' of the year.
This is good for Ella Henderson as well, keeping her in the public eye, hopes for a decently successful second era then (hoping the music will be as good as it was the first time, 'Glow' and 'Yours' both deserved FAR better than they did) ~

Well, in the case of Faithless 2.0 stands for 20 years in the music business. Later this year they will also release an album called 2.0 which will include their biggest songs remixed by current successful acts like Armin van Buuren, Tiesto, Rudimental etc.

Glitterball is just continuing to increase its lead. I have no idea where it'll land on Friday? It's only #84 on Spotify, but could it challenge the #1, at least in the first midweeks?
Great to see such a big boost for Foxes. She looks very close to taking the #6 on iTunes. I can't imagine she'll hold up well as airplay just isn't quite strong enough, but it's good to see after she seemingly stalled at around #14 on Friday.
Posted by: steve201 26th July 2015, 12:22 PM
It will def be ahead on the first mids I'd say as the no1 sales won't be much more than 60k but BM is top 5 on streams so should hold up decently.

I've never even heard of the other two, but with Faithless 2.0 is a misnomer for the 20th anniversary. It's at least the fourth version of 'Insomnia' to be released as a single.

It's not multiplied by the amount of tracks in it One purchase of the EP = one sale, not eight. If you bought all 8 remixes separately, that's 8 sales but it would cost a lot more lol.

No way, far too high. I would rather say 40. Plus 1 EP sale is not 8 sales for the track, only 1. it counts as 8 if someone buys the remixes one by one separetly.

'Shine' is now only 10% behind 'Black Magic' it wouldn't surprise me if next week 'Shine' finally manages to be #01. If only Years & Years has some promotion to help them. It's still a very good achievement for 'Shine' that it will most likely manage 5 weeks top 3!

I'm surprised they didn't really do much of any promo. One prime time performance could have edged them to #1 on a number of theses 5 weeks they'll be top 4.

It is. Top 5 for sure next week.

WHY are they releasing on a Tuesday? Can't help but feel that Disclosure have bollocksed up this album campaign before it's even kicked off.
Posted by: Joe. 27th July 2015, 09:06 AM
The odd Tuesday release could actually deny it a top 5 placing. Even if it would be to storm to #1 on iTunes, 3 days wouldn't probably even get it into thew top 10 this week. It'd have to hold up extremely well to make it next week, but Calvin has done well, and I can see this having mass appeal - so we'll see.

Love the new Disclosure track its pretty instant with me, could have waited for a Friday release though, get a full week of sales and peak much higher, I don't really know how it will fare to be honest, I suppose top 15 is possible by the end of the week.

I don't know, but think about it this way, would it have mattered what day of the week Latch was released? I don't think it would've made any significant difference. White Noise did really well too and that was released half-way through a week iirc.

Well, Freak Of The Week is doing very well on streaming and has been heavily played on the party islands this summer. I am surprised its holding up so well, but I think its a genuinely more popular song. Also, the song is pretty great
Hopefully the Disclosure song will be a long-runner. Watching the video, Sam Smith has changed hasn't he!?

^ Don't know if this has been mentioned, but there's a Rita Ora remix of Freak Of The Week and a Krept & Konan remix of Poison. Rather coincidental. I can't really think of any other examples of this (where two singles released close together were each remixed by the other artist), but I'm sure there must be some.

I've not heard the Rita Ora remix of Freak Of The Week, although I'm sure the Beenie Man/Popcaan and Afrobeat remixes are better. The Poison remix is decent though, Zdot is a good producer who improves the original.

It guarantees a top 20 really. Her streaming isn't very good so that'll stop it going top 10 sadly on the bright side, it doesn't seem to be freefalling so it shouldn't fall too badly next week.

Both versions of "Black Magic" are falling on iTunes actually, so don't think Sigma are going anywhere just yet. That surprises me if so, it sounded like a surefire smash when I first heard it.

It looks like it but then 'Maps' outperformed expectations so who knows. It's up to 485 with a week to go. Definitely not looking likely to go top 10 now though. I think their fanbase alone could get it to about 35.

'This Summer' is actually available to buy now, from the deluxe version of V (that's obviously the version charting in the 400s now). though the pre-order is still up for August 14~

It seems like "TSGH" has underperformed pretty much everywhere. It's broken Maroon 5's top 10 streak here in the US, which is disappointing because I like it more than any song in that streak.
Also happy to see "CFMF" finally break into the top 10!

They will, since there's not exactly any incentive for them to snub it Capital already playlisted it a few days ago I believe, so R1 should follow suit very soon

I'm surprised This Summer is the song to defeat Maroon 5's revival! Maybe it's too soon after Sugar? even if that was like a half a year ago or something already!

I'm pretty sure the only reason 'This Summer' is struggling is due to the lack of airplay so far. I'd be surprised if it didn't at least challenge for Top 10 when it's released.

I wonder if Demi has an outside chance of a #1. While Ain't Nobody is a guaranteed #1 the week before, it's not looking *quite* as big as I thought it was going to be (although still pretty massive I should think). I'm not quite sure what to make of Silento, but I could see it being the 'Are You With Me' to Demi's 'Not Letting Go'. 'Heart Attack' was a solid top 3 hit, and if I remember correctly Capital weren't on board with that until release week. Therefore Demi is going to get the most airplay she has ever gotten (already on Radio 1 and Capital - no sign of Silento on either yet?), and over the past couple of years despite limited releases, her profile here seems to have got bigger and bigger (plus the UK seems to be the only place where Demi has consistently performed better than Selena over the past few years which has to mean something).
Cool For The Summer is arguably Demi's most commercial song yet, and if Katy Perry released it it would've gone straight to #1. I think Demi has a chance too, a very outside one admittedly - but a chance all the same.

I'd LOVE if Maroon 5 went back to flopping but I'd still expect 'This Summer' will take off at some point, its airplay hasn't really properly started yet has it? And surely radio wouldn't just suddenly abandon them after arselicking them for years. It's actually, like 'Sugar', relatively inoffensive (slowly becoming a fan, did you slip something into my water supply T Boy???) but still hoping it flops and they can piss off to irrelevance again plz.

I'll never tell
Tbf, they premiered it ages ago and have waited too long to release it and any hype has gone. It's not even that good and they keep shoehorning swearing into everything. I haven't heard a radio edit but it must be pretty awful. My one hope is that if they go back into irrelevancy, they may tailor towards my taste again instead of chasing hits.

Haha they'll never piss off. They are like a bug that just won't leave you alone
(I like them as unpopular as it sounds) I do agree that they should stop getting so desperate and chasing the chart fashions but personally I don't mind because it shows that they are trying to at least experiment a little when it comes to this song.

I heard Sugar for the first time in full at training last night... honestly not that bad.
Pretty inoffensive music. Not my thing, but don't hate it. Especially if you avoid listening to the charts or stations like Capital
Posted by: Eric_Blob 30th July 2015, 12:36 PM
I don't know why This Summer's Gonna Hurt has done so poorly (by Maroon 5's standards) in the US. It's actually quite a decent song imo (to the point I've actually chosen to listen to it a few times in the past few weeks, something which I can't say for any other Maroon 5 song since One More Night, and before that Misery, although granted I haven't properly heard a fair few of their songs so they could be good).
It seemed like they could get charts hits there with absolutely anything, since they scored massive hits with absolutely terrible songs like PayPhone, and some of their other songs, whilst not terrible, were just plain and forgettable yet still managed to be hits (I'm primarily thinking of Daylight, I listened to it once, probably because I liked One More Night and wanted to hear the follow-up, and it was so plain I can't remember what it sounds like at all, I just remember being shocked at how plain it was ). Then all of a sudden this song, which in my opinion is actually fairly good, under-performs? So strange, I wonder what the reason is.
I wonder what the UK success of the song will be like.

She's got a pretty good chance. I'm sure Watch Me will get capital + radio 1's support soon enough, but on the whole I could see Silento with the streaming advantage, and Demi having the upper hand on airplay (presumably), as well as having a huge fanbase. We'll probably get a clearer picture in a few weeks though ~

With the Maroon 5 song, Radio 1 seem reluctant to move it above the C-List. I suppose it still has time but at the moment I can see this missing the top 20.

Scott did say when it was totd that he personally thought it was a miss and not a hit so we'll see. I hope it does go top 10 as I like it even if it is very unlike anything they've done before (except IWAY). If it's underperformed in their home turf then I doubt it'll do well here. Time will tell I guess~

Posted by: ML Hammer95 30th July 2015, 05:47 PM
Joe Stone for top 10 next week? Certainly hope so, a simple but effective banger! Dead ringer for Bump & Grind 2014, but I doubt it'll peform that well.
We've had quite a few songs like that this year, such as Can't Stop Playing, Take Me Away & So Freakin' Tight. Kind of reminds me of the mid 00's which were full of looped-house tracks like this.

In fairness radio was beginning to go off them around 2007-09 time then they came back big style with the humongous MLJ and it continued from there into the new decade!
