Scraping into the second set of results is our second goalie Gordon Banks, who celebrated his 80th birthday last year. He was part of the World Cup winning squad back in 1966, after winning the League Cup with Leicester in 1975. He then moved to Stoke, competing in the next World Cup where he made a save to prevent a Pele goal, and won the League Cup with his team in 1972. Niki Lauda was undoubtedly the bravest man in F1, to return to racing 40 days later after that horrific crash at the old Nurburgring in 1976 is nothing short of remarkable. I'm sure most of you will have seen the 2013 film 'Rush' which focused on that 1976 F1 season between him and James Hunt. Lauda also produced two of the greatest comebacks in F1 by winning the title the following year, and returning from a two-year absence, seven years after winning his world title to win his third in 1984 by a half a point from Alain Prost, the closet ever margin in F1. Tony Lewis, the mathematician and statistician who co-devised what became known as the Duckworth-Lewis method for settling weather-affected limited-overs matches, has died at the age of 78.

Lewis and fellow academic Frank Duckworth came together to produce a fairer method of settling such games than the controversial system which had been used at the 1992 World Cup.

Duckworth-Lewis calculates targets based on the batting team's remaining resources - wickets in hand, and overs in hand - via mathematical formulae.

The men's marathon world record holder, Kenya's Kelvin Kiptum, 24, has died in a road accident in his home country.

He was killed alongside his coach, Rwanda's Gervais Hakizimana, in a car on a road in western Kenya.

A third person was taken to hospital after the accident at about 23:00 local time (20:00 GMT), police were quoted as saying by the AFP news agency.

Kiptum made a stunning breakthrough in 2023 as a rival to his compatriot Eliud Kipchoge - whose record he later beat.
