Predictions:

01. Fight For This Love
02. Call My Name
03. Beat Of My Drum
04. Insatiable
05. Parachute

"Call My Name" to slay

Posted by: Saenerys 30th August 2017, 03:51 PM

Fight For This Love will probably come top three but Nicola's singles (and her album) have such praise on here so I wouldn't want to call it laugh.gif

That being said though Kimberley has the exact opposite so I imagine her tracks coming quite low, possibly even lining the bottom three with her features.

22 1.12 One Vision (Alfie Boe & Kimberley Walsh)

To nobody's surprise, One Vision is last with a pretty diabolical but not undeserved average. Kimberley collaborated with opera singer Alfie Boe for a song for the 2012 Paralympics, but it failed to chart. It received four -1s, the most of any song in the rate, and no score higher than a 6.

Posted by: Jay ☆ 30th August 2017, 09:19 PM

Deserved :')

Posted by: SamJudd 30th August 2017, 10:36 PM

1.12 Wow that's the lowest average ever, or at least that I've seen on here. Predict that 'Fight For This Love' will probably win this, but secretly hoping 'Beat Of My Drum' might be a surprise winner.

I reckon another Kimberley Walsh solo effort will drop next, 'The Road' maybe.

Posted by: Andrew. 31st August 2017, 12:37 AM

Can't say that isn't deserved :') I never expected Kimberley to give me huge bangers but I expected more from her solo career than...what we got. kink.gif

Posted by: Jade 31st August 2017, 12:39 AM

Let's just say 'One Vision' wasn't really my thing at all kink.gif or most of Buzzjack's apparently :')

Posted by: Liаm 31st August 2017, 01:15 AM

1.12 !!!! smash x

Can't I'm at all upset at that one laugh.gif

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 31st August 2017, 11:01 AM

I expect 'Threads' must be for the chop any time now?

Hoping to see the likes of 'Promise This' and '3 Words' as low as possible.

21 2.38 The Road (Alistair Griffin feat. Kimberley Walsh)

Kimberley's most recent release (from June 2014, which is probably the last time I heard this x) managed to enter the UK charts at #196, thanks to the release of a CD single! It was released as the official song of the 2014 Tour de France's Grand Départ in Yorkshire. ;o Klaus is the biggest fan of this song, awarding it 6.5, but for SamJudd it was a -1 worthy effort.

Posted by: Jade 31st August 2017, 02:03 PM

Kimberley smashing these averages x

Posted by: JosephStyles 31st August 2017, 03:40 PM

The Road is actually fairly pleasant, if not outstanding.

20 3.71 Threads (Sarah Harding)

So Sarah may have just won Celebrity Big Brother, but that success doesn't replicate here and her sole solo effort fails to make it out of the bottom 3. Released 2 years ago, 'Threads' failed to make an impression anywhere save for a few hardcore fans. I still maintain this is the most 'Girls Aloud' out of any of the solo singles by all 5 girls, in that its structure and sound is a bit all over the place, but perhaps a bit too messy? I'm surprised it only got one -1 score, with Joseph being the highest scorer, awarding it a 9.

Posted by: JosephStyles 31st August 2017, 07:19 PM

Threads is underrated sad.gif

Posted by: Liаm 31st August 2017, 07:27 PM

Threads is such a mess, it's like a demo found out of Clea's bin in 2005 :/

CLEA!!! laugh.gif

I CAN'T AT THAT!!! 😂😂😂😂

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 31st August 2017, 07:55 PM

I tried to listen to 'Threads' about twice and it gave me such an earache. sad.gif

Posted by: Jade 31st August 2017, 10:40 PM

Was it for 'Threads' where Sarah was sharing people's tweets about it being top 40 and that was actually in the physical chart or something? laugh.gif poor hen, I agree with Adam anyway that it is the solo release that is most in keeping with GA's sound. But it was a bit too messy to actually be up there with GA material~

19 4.33 One Day I'll Fly Away (Kimberley Walsh)

I guess it's no shock that the lead single from Kimberley's musical theatre album isn't a big favourite on here, but I'd say it's actually outperformed expectations and hasn't finished in the bottom 3! laugh.gif One Day I'll Fly Away, a cover of Randy Crawford's song, was the only single released from Centre Stage, and it didn't chart, despite a performance at the National Television Awards in 2013. I actually find it quite pleasant really, not worthy of a high finish here but I don't think it's as bad as it could've been kink.gif

Posted by: HarryEzra 3rd September 2017, 02:46 PM

Nothing out that I would say is a miss even if I do like Threads laugh.gif

Posted by: Jay ☆ 3rd September 2017, 09:52 PM

Her version of One Day I'll Fly Away is lovely! I don't really have any time for Centre Stage, but she chose the best track to lead with imo.

Posted by: Jay ☆ 3rd September 2017, 10:17 PM

18 5.28 Like U Like (Aggro Santos feat. Kimberley Walsh)

Oh dear, all four of Kimberley's singles have ended in the bottom 5! 'Like U Like' (which according to its Wiki page is a blend of Electrohop, R&B and grime - all genres you'd associate with our Kimberley, of course) is a collaboration with the Brazilian, London-based rapper Aggro Santos (remember him?). It was released in January 2011 and arguably defied expectations by peaking at #8. It makes Kimberley the only member of Girls Aloud apart from Cheryl to have achieved a Top 10 hit away from the group although Nadine will be joining them both next week when Go to Work gets to #1 x.

P.S. Candy >>>>>>>>>>> Like U Like

17 5.39 I Could Be (Shane Filan & Nadine Coyle)

This duet is actually rather decent! It unfortunately failed to chart in both the UK and Ireland, despite promo on some quite big shows including 'Children In Need' and 'Strictly: It Takes Two'. Could've done quite well at Eurovision for Ireland (better than Nicky Byrne at least which admittedly, wouldn't have been hard).

Posted by: Jay ☆ 5th September 2017, 09:40 PM

A nice song, a shame they didn't make a video for it!

Posted by: JosephStyles 6th September 2017, 03:39 PM

I Could Be is a really lovely song! Never stood a chance of being a hit but it was nice to hear Nadine's voice on something new (basil.gif) after so long.

Posted by: JosephStyles 6th September 2017, 03:42 PM

16 5.45 Crazy Stupid Love (Cheryl feat. Tinie Tempah)

This one BOTHERS ME because it's such a good song but y'all have voted it as Cheryl's worst single mellow.gif Crazy Stupid Love was released as the lead single from Cheryl's fourth studio album Only Human in 2014, and debuted at #1 (despite it being a "foregone conclusion" that MAGIC!'s Rude would make it over her biggrin.gif!), following a BGT performance several weeks earlier. It tied Cheryl for the record of most #1s by a British female, becoming her fourth chart topper. In this rate, it received a huge mix of scores, with 9s and 10s but also 0s and two -1s.

Posted by: Jade 6th September 2017, 03:58 PM

Pleased to see 'Crazy Stupid Love' so low as it is pretty hideous, particularly the horn segment which is unpleasant and weird to the ears.

(I kinda liked 'Like U Like' at the time but it's aged terribly)

Posted by: HarryEzra 6th September 2017, 04:29 PM

Crazy Stupid Love so low :/ same with Like U Like (poor her having all her singles in bottom 5 tho laugh.gif)

15 5.86 Sweetest High (Nadine)

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so...

kink.gif

"Nadine 2.0" (iconic x) unleashed this uptempo house track in June 2011 (a little over six months after the Insatiable album and single) to very little fanfare. In fact it apparently didn't even manage to make the Top 1000 on UK iTunes. ohmy.gif Even though this rather random release didn't provide Nadine with commercial success, it at least gave her the opportunity to share the above look with us all, from a club appearance in New York! Thankfully Nadine's parody account @NuhdeenCoyleNow has never allowed us to forget about it. wub.gif

I never would have predicted Sweetest High would finish higher than any of Cheryl's #1s, so this is quite an interesting result for me! I quite like the song... it's obviously cheaply produced, but her vocals shine on it. I just tend to forget about its existence for some reason! drama.gif

Incredible. heart.gif

P.S. Here's an interesting old https://www.muumuse.com/2011/07/on-music-and-mist-burgers-a-very-muumuse-interview-with-nadine-coyle-of-girls-aloud.html/ from when Sweetest High was released.

Posted by: AdamAloud 9th September 2017, 09:30 AM

'Sweetest High' is a bit of a bop! And the above look is truly iconic.

Posted by: Jay ☆ 9th September 2017, 04:39 PM

Then, in 2011, during a nine-month stint in New York, she recorded a single, Sweetest High, even rebranding as Nadine 2.0. “Did that song really come out?” she asks. “It did, didn’t it? I may have been drunk a lot around that time.”

rotf.gif

Posted by: JosephGutierrez 9th September 2017, 04:45 PM

!!!!!!!!

Sweetest High is quite a bop tbh kink.gif

laugh.gif howling at Nadine's explanation for 'Sweetest High'.

Still waiting on Cheryl's for 'Crazy Stupid Love' though...

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 9th September 2017, 04:57 PM

Cheryl has worse singles than CSL (though I do understand why it's maligned). Oh well, no bother.

Posted by: Klaus 9th September 2017, 05:05 PM

The horn section in Crazy Stupid Love sounds like one of those Youtube edits where they edit a much-mangled noise and add it to a well-known song and so it's amusing to see the popstar dance to it.

Only this time, it was the actual song...

(sorry I will NEVER shut up about how horrid that section of 'music' is, genuinely one of the worst parts of a song I've ever heard and still can't to this day understand how it got released)

Posted by: SamJudd 15th September 2017, 12:59 AM

In no-way is 'Crazy Stupid Love' is the worst of Cheryl's singles, '3 Words' & 'The Flood' are far, far worse, surely they can't last much longer on here surely. She has had some great material such as 'Fight For This Love', 'Parachute' & 'Call My Name'.

WOW is Nadine's solo stuff is well and truly terrible, such a shame as she had the best voice in the group and deserves much better songs than the tripe she's brought out, no wonder she hasn't gone anywhere expect down the toilet.

As for Sarah Harding, she was about 5 years too late for any chance at a solo career, who in the hell thought 'Threads' was a good choice for a first single, maybe back in 2007 or 2008 it might have had a chance at scraping the top 75, but now NO chance.

14. 5.89 The Flood (Cheryl)

The second Cheryl song to exit is 'The Flood', the 2nd and final single from 'Messy Little Raindrops'. The single was a commercial disaster for Cheryl, peaking at #18 it was (at the time) her lowest charting single of her career both with and without Girls Aloud. Cheryl performed the song live at the 2010 Royal Variety performance, with Prince Charles and Camilla in attendance. The song managed quite a few high scores in this rate, and listening back I can see why, the chorus is actually quite strong. Although not releasing 'Yeah Yeah' as a single will forever remain a mystery.

Posted by: Davidson 20th September 2017, 01:17 PM

I always thought 'The Flood' was reasonably popular. I always found it bland and a song that doesn't really warrant much opinion but I remember people really enjoying it when it was released.

Maybe my memory is playing tricks on me.

Posted by: AdamAloud 25th September 2017, 08:58 AM

13. 5.95 Heartbreaker (will.i.am ft. Cheryl Cole)

Is this the song that signalled the end of Girls Aloud? As part of The Passions Of Girls Aloud, Cheryl chose to learn street dancing in LA, which culminated in her appearing in will.i.am's new music video. However, the pair hit it off and Cheryl ended up featuring on the track. 'Heartbreaker' came at a time when Cheryl was in the headlines constantly, after Ashley Cole's infamous one night stand. A year later, Cheryl would be at peak national treasure status and will.i.am heavily involved in the production of her debut album. In the documentary 'Ten Years At The Top' that aired during the Girls Aloud reunion, Cheryl revealed that Will was the one who convinced her to go solo.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 25th September 2017, 12:15 PM

'The Flood' is probably my least favourite song about incontinence.

Posted by: White Mustang 25th September 2017, 12:28 PM

Heartbreaker was a huge bop!

Posted by: Jonjo 25th September 2017, 07:55 PM

Heartbreaker's good. I scored it low due to Cheryl barely having any impact in it, bar the video.

Posted by: liamk97 28th September 2017, 10:59 AM

I quite like 'Crazy Stupid Love' and I've never been bothered by the horn section, but I do think it was a safe release for Cheryl. It's catchy enough without having the same oomph as her previous leads. Hopefully she steps up to the mark with her next era.

I too thought 'The Flood' had more fans than this. I know I adored it at the time and was pretty gutted it only scraped the Top 20. I don't think my affection has held up quite as much but it's still a beauty and I have fond memories of it.

'Heartbreaker' is a bop and I think Cheryl works well on the track despite having barely singing input; I think it's just nice to hear a female voice come through. Of course, it was a fantastic move in the midst of Ashley's cheating and all the media attention it brought.

Posted by: HarryEzra 28th September 2017, 12:40 PM

The Flood and Heartbreaker feel in the right place.

12. 6.08 3 Words (Cheryl ft. will.i.am)

11. 6.24 Promise This (Cheryl)

Sorry for the delay in these results but we're back, and right in the middle of a Cheryl cull before we head into the top 10. '3 Words', the title track of her debut album reached #4 back in December 2009. One of her favourite songs from that album, Buzzjack it seems does not agree as it received 3 scores of -1. I love it though, I think it's easily the best song from her rather disappointing debut album so shame on you all!

In unlucky 11th it's 'Promise This', the lead single from her second album. Weeks before, Cheryl was at death's door battling malaria. That didn't stop her from not only making a full recovery, but also bagging herself her second solo #1 single. Although declaring she can't speak French with Girls Aloud, the future Mrs Fernandez-Versini indeed had French lyrics in the song. Not a classic #1 song by any means, but I still enjoy this a lot when I hear it. It received the full spectrum of scores, ranging from 0 to 10.

Posted by: SamJudd 19th October 2017, 10:31 PM

Glad to see these results back on track, so welcome back AdamAloud.

Not that keen of either of these Cheryl songs, '3 Words', I never liked even when her album was released and found that Will.i.am's awful production really ruined it, and don't agree that this was the best song on the album, 'Fight For This Love', 'Parachute' & 'Stand Up' were my faves. Didn't like it then, don't like it now and just find the song very dull and plodding.

'Promise This' = At the time I quite liked it, but now find that it's aged really badly and very annoying especially that bit at the beginning 'Aya doa doa' or whatever it is, just really bugged me and even the album 'Messy Little Raindrops' was awful and even worse than '3 Words', I know it was rushed to sustain momentum, but it well and truly shows and no wonder she didn't any further big hits from that era, 'The Flood' put a stop to that and ending the whole thing so soon, just made the entire thing pointless.

If I remember correctly wasn't 'Everyone' with Dizzie Rascal planned as the 3rd single or was it 'Yeah, Yeah', dunno can't really remember, well anyway they were both awful and would have scored minor success at best.

Posted by: Jonjo 19th October 2017, 11:45 PM

'3 Words' is so good. Really under appreciated. sad.gif

Posted by: Jay ☆ 20th October 2017, 01:05 PM

3 Words (song) is definitely underappreciated here, such a gem in her back catalogue! I love the mood of it.

Also Yeah Yeah is great! One of her best tracks from across her albums. Tut tut, SamJudd... nono.gif Tbh I think Messy Little Raindrops gets too much of a hard time. Beyond its singles & Yeah Yeah, other highlights include Hummingbird & Waiting. wub.gif

Posted by: Jade-o-Lantern🎃 20th October 2017, 01:06 PM

'3 Words' is too low! I must admit that the spelling out of words (M E T O O) is a bit cringe but otherwise the vibe of the song is wonderful.

Posted by: JosephSivan 16th January 2018, 04:38 PM

OK we're finishing this off once and for all, so here's #6-10!

10. 6.84 I Don't Care
9. 6.89 Only Human
8. 7.08 Under the Sun
7. 7.63 Lucky Day
6. 7.89 Parachute (fewer 10s)

Cheryl's record-breaking track I Don't Care made her the first British female to get five UK #1 singles, and interestingly it ensured Only Human became her first album to house more than one #1 single! It tailed off annoyingly quick but it's a big favourite of mine, incredibly catchy and infectious.

Speaking of Only Human, the title track is just above. It got a pretty terrible single mix, making one of Cheryl's most unique tracks into a generic drum and bass mess. Thankfully, they saw sense and ignored it in the music video. Nevertheless, the song performed terribly anyway, not re-entering the top 100 when its single release came about, and was ignored by radio all round.

Rewind a couple more years and Cheryl scored a top 20 hit with the second single from A Million Lights. Under the Sun wasn't my first choice for a single, much preferring Screw You, but it performed solidly all round.

A brief Cheryl break now, as Nicola's second single Lucky Day drops out at #7. While the song only peaked at #40, it seems mostly well-loved by fans hence its high placing here! I personally love the track, and it definitely deserved more in the charts.

Finally, Cheryl's first album produced three big hits, with Parachute being the final one. It only *just* loses out on a top 10 placing, with fewer 10s from you guys than the #5 placed song!

Posted by: Jay ☆ 20th January 2018, 08:04 PM

I'd definitely have I Don't Care above Only Human, Under the Sun and Lucky Day if I was ranking them. Parachute should be in the Top 5 too! cry.gif

Positions #3-5 coming soon. cool2.gif

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 22nd January 2018, 01:22 AM

'I Don't Care' kind of encapsulates what annoys me about the vast majority of Cheryl's music in that it sounds so painfully cheap. That's one thing I've never got, she'd been one of the biggest and most sought after names in the music industry so why couldn't they splash out on some decent production for her music?

It kind of makes me think they knew they'd make megabucks on it so could cut corners with minimal expenditure.
