While we're on the subject of Robbie and Take That....

From
http://www.contactmusic.com/news/take-that-earn-7-million-in-six-months_1247251

Take That Earn £7 Million In Six Months

Take That are thought to have earned a total of more than £7 million in six months after banking £2.5 million and being owed £5.1 million.

Accounts filed by the 'Never Forget' group's newly formed TT5 company - set up three months after Robbie Williams returned to the boy band in July 2010 - disclose a turnover of £7.6 million, made up of £2.5 million in the band and a further £5.1 million owed.

The group's recent 'Progress Live' tour - their first time on the road as a five-piece since 1995 - was the biggest source of income, selling a record breaking 1.34 million tickets in less than 24 hours.

A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Touring has seen the band's finances rocket. It was very, very lucrative and it's little wonder they have so much in the bank between them."

While the tour grossed a great deal of money, the band may not end up taking home with much of it themselves, as it has previously been reported their spectacular stage production cost up to £15 million to produce.

Take That - which also includes Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, Jason Orange and Howard Donald - beat their previous box office record by doubling the number of tickets sold in one day for their 'The Circus Live' tour in 2008.

Adding to their finances, the band's 'Progress' album has also sold more than two million copies since its release last November.

So they earned £7 million but the show cost £15 million to produce???? unsure.gif Am I missing something? laugh.gif

£7 million divided by 5 doesn't seem very much given the scale of the tour. I'd stay solo if I was Rob biggrin.gif

Posted by: jay727 Sep 28 2011, 12:27 PM

none of them need the money anyways, especially not rob.
although most rob fans (maybe not as many on here) are annoyed that he rejoined them, barlow and co have done them and rob the biggest favour they could..returning one of the biggest showmen to his former glory, and now that barlow is on board producing and writing album 9 we can expect that charisma and robbieness ( biggrin.gif ) to be 'back for good' smile.gif

I get puzzled by that too! I know that they've always said they've actually lost money on (most) of their tours. The Circus cost at least £10M to put on too (to be honest as a concert the £10M for The Circus was more value for money than the £15M for Progress - as much as I enjoyed the Progress tour.)

I mean - everyone keeps saying that singles (and even albums) sales aren't important (conveniently when Take That miss the top 40 with a song!) but if £7M split between five (for a hell of a lot of bloody hard work) - I'd rather have a much smaller profit margin with an album which didn't really take much effort at all.

Indeed. I very much doubt those figures though. mellow.gif

ROBBIE'S NOT BACK FOR GOOD

X FACTOR judge Gary Barlow has revealed that Robbie Williams has once again left Take That.

Gary, 40, said the man band's recent reunion "ended perfectly" but they are back to being a four-piece.

And he insisted that some of their fans prefer the group WITHOUT 37-year-old Robbie.

Gary said: "Many fans say they prefer Take That as a foursome.

"The ultimate dream was to get us on tour. We managed to do that. It was beautiful. Now Rob's doing a solo record and from this point it's back to where it was."

Asked whether Take That — whose hits include Back For Good — were now a four-piece he replied: "Yes."

But the singer refused to rule out any future reunions. "You know what, we can revisit it whenever we want. He's our brother, Rob is, and if he wants to have a year off being Robbie Williams, he's welcome any time he wants," he told Radio Times.

I'm confused by all this. I always thought Robbie signed up for one album and one tour and then it would be back 'to normal' TT wise. He always planned a new solo album as far as I can recall.

I certainly never expected the TT5 thing to be a permanent state of affairs. Then again, he talks so much bull and changes his mind from one day to the next so who the heck knows.... rolleyes.gif

Posted by: jay727 Oct 5 2011, 10:10 PM

It has been confirmed that Rob will do this record and then rejoin the band again. It's all good! that way we get a Rob on new material every year solo or as part of TT

Im hoping for a continuation of the 2 Rudebox songs 80's and 90's on this new record...is it time for the 00's? it would bring the circle together nicely, maybe as a hidden track if he wanted to stay clear of the Rudebox vibe

It looks like Robbie's album will be released next autumn. I reckon another Take That (including Robbie) album for autumn 2013........

If you've been tuning in to Robbie's blogs you'll already know that he has been busy in his Los Angeles studio recording his new album.

Today, we're extremely excited to announce that the album is set to be released next year by Universal Music following a deal struck between the world’s leading record company and the most successful British male solo artist ever.

The new studio album, Robbie’s first since Reality Killed The Video Star in 2009 and his latest creative venture following his phenomenally successful reunion with Take That, is likely to be the most hotly-anticipated new release of 2012. It will be issued worldwide by Universal Music next Autumn.

“I'm really thrilled to be joining the Universal family at what I think is the most exciting time in my career," said Robbie.

Tim Clark, Director, ie:music Ltd, says, “This great new deal puts Robbie Williams firmly in control of his own destiny, but with the most muscular of partners."

"What a thrill this announcement is," said Chairman/CEO of Universal Music Group, Lucian Grainge. "To be working with Robbie and his team and to have the opportunity to support this incredible stage of his career makes life so exciting."

David Joseph, Universal Music UK chairman & CEO, says: “Having had the chance to listen to the music I’ve no doubt that Robbie is currently at his most creatively inspired. We are about to witness something very special.”

The Year in Touring: U2's Mighty RoarThe Year in Touring: U2's Mighty Roar

That mind-blowing sum is the final tally for U2's historic 360° tour, a three-year behemoth that shattered preconceived notions (and capacities) for stadium shows, forever changed the paradigms of concert production and moved more than 7 million tickets around the globe.

When it wrapped in July, 360° went down has the highest-grossing and biggest ticket seller in the history of the business. Of those totals, $293.3 million in box office and nearly 3 million in ticket sales were generated during the Billboard touring calendar, which ran from Nov. 1, 2010, to Nov. 8, 2011-and easily enough to make 360° the top tour of the year.

Months after 360° wrapped in Moncton, New Brunswick, the tour's significance was finally sinking in for Live Nation Global Touring chairman Arthur Fogel, global producer of the epic trek.

"As time moves on and we get further away from it, it actually seems more impressive than when you're actually in the middle of it," says Fogel, not a man given to overstatement. "It just leaves a tremendous sense of accomplishment, and is without a doubt one of the greatest experiences in the business that I've ever had."

While it was under way, 360° was a beast to execute, from its initial yearlong setup, to the postponement of the second North American leg due to Bono's back surgery, to the daily grind of pulling off the most ambitious tour ever mounted.

"It was a lot of pressure, even during the down times, because it was so big and so complicated," Fogel says. "The postponement issue was a lot to deal with, so when it ended and time goes by, it seems that much more impressive and an accomplishment to be incredibly proud of."

While 360° is in a class all its own in terms of scale and box office, the principals that made it a success-scaling, routing, showmanship and songs-are relevant across the entire live business. The fact that such numbers could even be achieved, let alone in a down global economy, is a testament to the power of live music.

Fogel dismisses the notion that 360° somehow is isolated from the realities of the rest of the touring industry. "I don't subscribe to the theory at all that somehow this tour is its own animal," he says. "This is what drives our business, this is what gets people excited about going to shows, this is what proves that we are the real deal as an industry. When you can capture the attention and imagination and enjoyment of 7 million people, that's what this business is all about."

TAKE THAT, BON JOVI

Many other acts rang up big numbers in what turned out to be a resounding comeback year for the live music business. Chief among them was Bon Jovi, which, remarkably, put together the biggest tour in the band's history with the Circle trek. The tour ended up grossing some $265 million, including $193 million this year. A critical element of Bon Jovi's success is that, unlike many of its peers from the same era, it isn't a nostalgia band. New albums top the Billboard charts, new songs are played on contemporary radio, and new fans come onboard to sing along to those new tunes and the classics. Maintaining relevancy is an obsession for frontman Jon Bon Jovi and is critical to the band's ongoing success.

"We've been blessed by having had that cross-generational thing and still being accepted by the masses so that they make the records No. 1 all around the world," Bon Jovi says. "Unless we had two generations of fans, we wouldn't be able to sell out those stadiums, but with that we can."

The list of the Top 25 Tours comprises a healthy mix of genres and generations. Most of the names on the tally are familiar on a worldwide basis, but one group -- reunited British pop sensation Take That -- shocked many observers by ringing up box office to the tune of $185 million, with attendance of 1.8 million. Those numbers were primarily driven by shows in the group's U.K. home base and across Europe.

One person who wasn't surprised by Take That's staggering take is Simon Moran, managing director of SJM Concerts, promoter of Take That's shows in England. While conceding that the group's numbers are impressive, Moran says they shouldn't be totally shocking. "Their track record in the U.K. is second to none," he says. "You go through U2, Oasis, the Rolling Stones -- they outdraw all of them in the U.K. And the production is unbelievable. It's like Cirque du Soleil mixed with a rock show."

Another Brit in the upper echelon of 2011 is Pink Floyd alum Roger Waters, who launched his conceptual tour of landmark Floyd album The Wall last year and continued it this year to the tune of $150 million from 92 shows reported to Billboard Boxscore. The tour, which ventured into international waters this year and has been extended into 2012, was produced by Live Nation and booked by William Morris Endeavor.

"Live Nation basically bought that tour and drove it. [Live Nation CEO] Michael Rapino and his crew did this worldwide," WME contemporary music head Marc Geiger says. "It's a massive hit everywhere. The Wall is the gift that keeps on giving, and it's a testament to one of the biggest bands of all time."

Taylor Swift firmly secured her status as a member of the touring elite. Her Speak Now tour took her into international markets for the first time, and also to her first stadium shows in North America. In only her second headlining tour, Swift grossed nearly $97 million for the year-end recap period, and sold more than 1.3 million tickets, with dates still coming in as the chart year ended.

Once all numbers are reported, Speak Now will have topped $100 million and 1.5 million tickets sold in the United States alone, according to tour promoter Louis Messina, president of TMG/AEG Live. In addition to significant overseas work, Swift hit stadiums for the first time, with two nights at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., grossing more than $8 million and moving 110,000-plus tickets.

After taking 2010 off from touring, fellow TMG/AEG Live client Kenny Chesney returned with a vengeance on his Goin' Coastal tour, once again cracking 1 million in attendance (1.3 million, a personal best) at amphitheaters, arenas and NFL stadiums. Other touring country acts in the top 25 include Jason Aldean and Toby Keith.
Urban/pop sensation Usher solidified his status as an arena-level headliner in 2011 with the blockbuster OMG tour, produced by AEG Live. With Trey Songz as support, Usher enjoyed his biggest tour ever in OMG, grossing $75 million and moving almost 1 million tickets.

"This was a career-defining tour for Usher," says Randy Phillips, who played a dual role in OMG as CEO of AEG Live and Usher's manager. "When people were betting against him, he came back stronger than ever, which goes back to that old adage, 'Never bet against a star.'"

Other urban/R&B acts in the top 25 include Lil Wayne and the pairing of Sade with John Legend.

Pop remains solid, with Lady Gaga rapidly transitioning from upstart to global superstar during the course of her Monster Ball tour, which upped its total in 2011 by adding another $72 million in Boxscore reports.

Katy Perry also moved up in touring status this year, with her first arena headlining tour approaching $50 million in gross and selling more than 1 million tickets. Other pop acts in the top 25 include Justin Bieber, Glee Live!, the creative pairing of New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys, Kylie Minogue and Enrique Iglesias. The lattermost artist took in nearly $30 million on a tour produced by AEG Live.

The amount of money at the box office it took to make the Top 25 Tours tally was nearly the same as 2010. This year, it took $27.3 million to make it into the top 25 (Toby Keith), while last year's threshold was $28.6 million ( Tiësto).

U2 tour rock
’n’ rolls it in

Band's 360° tour was
highest-grossing

The 360° shows by Bono and the rest of the band grossed more than £180million at 44 gigs seen by almost three million fans.

Rockers Bon Jovi, top last year, fell back to second in the list compiled by US mag Billboard.

The band generated a little over £120 million from 68 shows, but dropped from their number one spot of the previous year.

Take That came third for the summer tour which saw them reunited with Robbie Williams for the first time in 15 years. The group's Progress tour around Europe took £117 million.
Another Brit was at number four in the list with ex-Pink Floyd star Roger Waters generating ticket sales to the value of nearly £96 million for his The Wall tour.

A surprise entry in the list was 80s soul star Sade who grossed £34 million for her shows over the 12-month period. She was seen by nearly 600,000 fans but only 21 of her 59 shows were sell-outs.

Dutch violinist Andre Rieu, who specialises in waltzes, was another surprise in the list, ranked at number nine.

Top ten: 1 U2, 2 Bon Jovi, 3 Take That, 4 Roger Waters, 5 Taylor Swift, 6 Kenny Chesney, 7 Usher, 8 Lady GaGa, 9 André Rieu, 10 Sade.

Only the song writers make money nowadays and he didn't write any of the TT stuff.

A little bit if there are any Progress songs on it. Gary will be the main money maker. He wrote the songs. Or the majority anyway.

i always thought the get royalties from the brand take that.
So maybe hwat you say, Laura is the reasonfor the many reunions. The singers do not earn money if the songs are played in the radio, only the writers

Historically, GB made all the money, but since 2005, they’ve split everything equally and shared the songwriting credits. Robbie and Jason will certainly receive a significant fee. They’re all friends after all.

I love to see RW with The other three but five will always be the real thing. When they can get on a stage as a five some again - that will be TT. smile.gif

Same with the Spice Girls. I'm going to see them next year at Wembley but am very conscious that they aren't complete.

Yes - I envy anybody who has had that connection to an artist throughout their lives. It must be nice to have such a constant. I was never like that as a kid. I wasn't "a fan" of anybody (other than David Soul from Starsky and Hutch laugh.gif ) and came to be a Robbie fan in my thirties so I can't identify with that. It must be nice (providing the artist is still around of course. )

Did you notice nobody mentioned NMS? laugh.gif

No mention of NMS , that guy was not a nice person to have in charge of a group of young lads, I think he personally has a lot to answer for for what went on , he was a trouble maker , one of those negative people that likes to stir things up , especially the bad stuff , he would not get away with that kind of bullying these days .

Divide and conquer - those were his tactics - but he installed that work ethic that they all have to this day.

Awful human being though.

I watched the documentary yesterday. It was really nice looking back over their history and seeing them reminisce. It was cool seeing all of their Mums get together too. The clips of the Circus tour look fantastic. That tour looks like so much fun, I wish I was there. I hope their tour this year is as good biggrin.gif

It was interesting reading about the ultimatum that Robbie was given to either sh** or get off the pot so to speak , tbh I can see why , I do not think anyone realistically believe that you could depend on Robbie who changes his mind like the wind depending on the situation & the lads know that but they do not fall out over it anymore . I thought it was irresponsible of him to break the news to the journalist about Jason leaving but that's Robbie, opens his big mouth when put under pressure

Sorry to read that Gary has someone ill in the family, hope all is ok

Yes he does change his mind an awful lot which is fine when you're a solo performer but not when you have three or four other people relying on you.

Personally I don't think he will ever commit to another full album/tour with TT. I think that time has passed. I think he will just do the odd collaboration like he is doing now with them.

I think I'm happy with that. Progress was so perfect for me - it would only be spoilt by doing it all over again. It would never be as good. No point in revisiting.

Does anybody know why Eight Letters was on Progress and also on Take The Crown?

I think I prefer the Take The Crown version, I like hearing his raw voice without all that soft editing on the track.

On Progress the song is sung by Gary and I assume Rob wanted to sing it too, so he took it on Take The Crown.

I think it was because in the TT documentary RW was singing it and some people said they wanted to hear his recorded version, so he put it on TTC.

I actually prefer the Progress version with GB singing and Robbie on the last line or preferably when they sing it together. smile.gif

"Take That": At heart we are still teen stars

Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen talk about the new musical "The Band" in an interview and reveal how they feel today.
Where they used to be: screech alarm! And today? Celebrate "Take That"'s 30th anniversary and want to know it again: their musical starts in Berlin, there's also a new album plus a tour.

30th anniversary and a new musical! Let's remember: "Take That" was formed in 1990 in Manchester with Gary Barlow, Howard Donald, Jason Orange, Mark Owen and Robbie Williams, who was 16 at the time. Robbie left the band in 1995 - the split followed in 1996. In 2005, there was a reunion without Robbie, the 2012 while once again with "Take That" occurs, but otherwise pursued his solo career. In 2014, Jason will leave.

Currently the band consists of Gary, Howard and Mark. Robbie makes guest appearances with the band. In an interview with BILD der FRAU the three musicians of "Take That" talk about the new musical "The Band" - and what their life looks like today.

The hits of "Take That", sung and danced by five "doppelgangers", form the backdrop for a heartbreaking story: It's the year 1992, five 16-year-old girlfriends are huge fans of "The Band". As adults, their paths cross again and all forgotten teen dreams awaken ... "It's about the power of music and how it manages to revive a friendship," says successful author Tim Firth. "The Band" starts in Berlin in April, followed by the German tour in October.

Bild der Frau: In the musical, boys are on stage, performing like you did back in the 90's. What is going on in your mind?

Gary Barlow: The boys are so skinny! (Laughs) You just look too good! And they sing too well! Dreadful!

Howard Donald: When you see their energy, the friendship between them reminds us very much of us back then. The good: We are still close friends.

Do you get a bit wistful looking back?

Mark Owen: Of course it's exciting when you're 20. But even more beautiful is to be 47 today and say: Wow, I've come that far!

See a short greeting from the band to the fans. Your words in English translated: "Hello everyone, we are" Take That "and you can read our interview on PICTURE OF WOMAN."

Your musical is coming to Berlin now. What does that mean to you?

Gary: Very much. In Germany, we had our first TV appearance at the beginning of the 90s - our first ever appearance outside of England. The German fans have always remained faithful to us over the past 30 years.

Howard: My big daughter lives in Münster. That's why I also have a strong bond with Germany in my private life. And during our band break between 1996 and 2005, I worked as a DJ in German clubs. I have many friends there since then.

You worked on the musical?

Gary: Yes, of course it's about our biggest hits too. But most of all to our fans, to five girls in boygroup fever.

"Take That" about aging

Are you getting along well with aging?

Howard: I have two small children, one and two years old. I can not recommend a 50-year-old to have children (winks). If I am really tired, I would like to trade with the boys in the musical and want to be 20 again.

Mark: My body is 47, the rest 20.

Gary: We are all fathers. But in the heart still teen stars!

Do you actually listen to German music?

Howard: I especially those of Herbert Grönemeyer. And Fanta4, they also started about 30 years ago. I still remember when articles about us were written in the same "Bravo" ...

"Take That" about life today

Do you still have goals?

Gary: Just keep going. The last few years have been so nice with the tours.

Is your life better today than it was before?

Howard: Everything is better! We now have children and a family life. This is a completely new life experience. It's not always about "Take That". Now it's more about the real life.

Gary: I like the look back - on the success. And that we are still curious anyway. I'm still excited before I go on stage. But in the past we were more selfish, today we want to be good people too.

Your tour to the album "Odyssey" will start in April. Do you miss Robbie and Jason?

Mark: Yes, yes. But in the heart they are always there. We often ask ourselves: what would Jason say or Rob? And right now, in this jubilee year, we meet more often with Robbie.

The musical with the music of Take That from the 90s celebrates its German premiere on April 11 at the Stage Theater of the West in Berlin. More information can be found here .

How true or not this is I do not know unsure.gif Jason was seen for the first time in public a few months back so maybe there is some truth in the rumour

Beloved 90s boy band Take That to release 'emotional' new music after five year break

Iconic 90s boy band Take That is preparing to drop a new song and music video next week, marking the UK group's first fresh material in five years An iconic 90s boy band is set to release brand new music after a five-year-long hiatus, much to the excitement of their devout fanbase.

Take That is working on their ninth studio album, which will include their first original material since they dropped their 2017 record Wonderland. Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Howard Donald have reportedly already produced the music video for the song.

While Robbie Williams and Jason Orange won't appear on camera, it's been rumoured their signature vocals could feature on the highly-anticipated tune. Gary has already shared a teaser for the mystery song, which he has described as "emotional" and reflective of where he and his bandmates "are in our lives now."

"It sounds really different," Gary told the Sun. "I think 2017 was our last official new music and this one I am so excited for you to hear."
The former X Factor judge also revealed Take That fans can anticipate a deviation from the band's previous songs, explaining their upcoming material "sounds really different and emotional and fitting for where we are now in our lives." Gary, 52, went on to confirm they're "very proud" of what they have created, after confessing in 2021 that he was itching to get back in the studio with his bandmates. "I am desperate to get back into the band if I’m honest," he said. "For us, 2023 will be a big year for Take That. It is Mark, Howard and me for the next few years."

In May, the three musicians signed with EMI Records, a renowned UK record label that has previously worked with Katy Perry, Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift. "It’s very clear that Jo, Rebecca and all the team at EMI share our love and passion for music, and our ambition, and we are very excited about working together," Take That said in a statement.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain in June, Gary revealed he is open to the possibility of Robbie Williams and Jason Orange re-joining the band at some point in the future. Robbie famously ditched the band in 1995 to pursue a solo career, before returning briefly in 2010. Jason departed in 2014, after it was reported he simply didn't wish to live life in the spotlight anymore. Despite this, Gary and Mark appear to be optimistic a reunion could still be on the cards.

"When the time's right it'll happen," Gary said, before being echoed by Mark who added, "I'm not sure, we all hope one day it might happen."
