The 1975 has announced A Brief Enquiry Into Online Relationships as the name of thier 3rd album. Give Yourself A Try is out tonight.
They've already got an EP called Music For Cars though.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_for_Cars_(EP)
Interesting that they'd reuse a name like that, tbf most of the EP ended up on their self titled.
Darn. They sure refered to the 2013 EP.

The 1975 have just posted this cryptic message, hopefully we will get more info soon!
A countdown to June 1st has appeared on their website!
Sounds like the date for the new single then?
Picture from the new video! Can't wait, Matty looks a bit like Gerard Way here.
They've been posting some weird stuff on twitter too that I think is hints at song names
New music coming out thursday!!!!
https://twitter.com/the1975/status/1001130985277349888
It's called "Love" and is the Hottest Record on Thursday.
https://www.reddit.com/r/the1975/comments/8n140s/sounds_good_to_me/
Being insta-added to the R1 playlist apparently.
[link]https://twitter.com/the1975/status/1001489593559146496[/link]
The lyrics are very quotable, fingers crossed the song lives up to them! So hyped for this!
I'm very interested to see what the sound for this single will be like, I'm hoping it's like Sex.
The song has leaked, and it's very different from what I was expecting. It's very guitar-heavy, it reminds me a bit of The Strokes. I really like it.
Looks like they have scrapped the Music For Cars name and gone for "A Brief Enquiry Into Online Relationships"
Going with the long titles names I see.
He has said Music for Cars will be the name of the 'era', and will also include the next album next year.
This is good, but sounds like a COMPLETE ripoff of 'Disorder' by Joy Division
I think the title change was to avoid confusion with their EP Music For Cars.
There is currently a livestream on The 1975's YouTube counting down to midnight, I'm assuming it's the video but there have also been rumors of an EP!
'Give Yourself A Try' is an absolutely killer comeback from them, think it might actually be challenging 'Chocolate' as my fave song of theirs to date! Such an earworm.
It's tough between "Love Me", "Chocolate", "The Sound", "A Change Of Heart" and "Somebody Else" for me - though "Give Yourself A Try" should slot nicely in there somewhere longterm. I am really liking it. Though I can also understand why someone doesn't.
Give Yourself A Try is definitely one of the best songs around right now, it's grown on me so much!
http://www.musicweek.com/talent/read/we-re-doing-things-differently-inside-the-1975-s-two-album-campaign/073023
There will be one new single released a month, so the next one should be very soon!
I thought the album would be called Music For Cars?
Ah okay that makes sense.

Apparently, the next single 'Love It If We Made It' will be released next Thursday! (July 19th)
https://twitter.com/the1975/status/1019612777462358017
Love It If We Made It is releasing tomorrow at 5pm!
Ok, I LOVE this!
This isn't a hottest record?? Must be a grat?
So it is a second single then?
Well this went right over my head on first listen. I felt that way with "Give Yourself A Try" though and I grew to love that very quickly. I also got over it quickly after it felt like I'd be rinsing it for ages.
Their manager Jamie Oborne has confirmed there will be a video for LIIWMI.
Love It If We Made It is damn gooood *.* the second half especially, hoping the album keeps up to that standard as i wasn't that keen on Give Yourself a Try (which just sounded like they took the Disorder riff and made it 10 times screechier)
Some new song titles and descriptions have been revealed from the album, I'm really looking forward to I Couldn't Be More in Love!
https://www.nme.com/news/music/the-1975-new-single-tootimetootimetootime-2364440
The second single is called 'TooTimeTooTimeTooTime' and is out on August 15th, apparently LIIWMI was just a promotional single.
LIIWMI is damn good for a grat!! This official single better be damn good!!
According to the fans who appeared in the music video, it's the song that Healy described in The Guardian as:
Totally intrigued for new material - getting to really like "Love It If We Made It" now - heading towards the 'love' zone! Think it's gonna be an era of needing to let the material grow but that's fine with me!
It's very different from what I was expecting, it's gonna take me a while to process it before my thoughts.
Pretty crap for their standards.
Could be huge imo!
Right: time for my thoughts now I've 'digested' it
It wasn't at all what I was expecting, a lot more pop than I thought. But it's grown on me a lot over the listens. I'm happy each one of the three singles sound completely different from each other, I love The 1975 because they experiment a lot. I can easily see this being their biggest hit, it already has a great position on the Spotify playlists.
It's very 'One Dance'... in a weird way. Regardless of how good it is, I can see it being a top 10 hit at the least.
I like this on first listen - the most instant of the 3 on first listen. I'm really on "Love It If We Made It" at the moment.
Edit: I like it even more on second listen. I think it manages to sound commercial and like a hit without them having sold their soul. It still feels very The 1975. Comparison with Years & Years who sounded like they'd sold their soul for "If You're Over Me" (to me anyway).
AUTOTUNEAUTOTUNEAUTOTUNE
It's definitely more of a hit than anything else this era and it's catchy too, I've got it in my head after it's finished which is always a good sign. What bothers me though is how low the vocal is in the mix - I feel like I can barely hear him!
TOOTIME is the 1975 do Daft Punk and I approve heartily.
The 3 songs so far from this album have all been ace. Looking forward to it!
The title of this topic is bugging me, it's 'inquiry', not 'enquiry'.
There is a poster at Reading Festival saying '30 November', so I assume that's when the album will be released. Just 3 more months!
The Spotify vertical video has now been uploaded as the official video:

Is every intro on their album called The 1975? Legit going to become my most played last.fm track
https://twitter.com/the1975/status/1039544120564477953
New single 'Sincerity is Scary' releasing on Thursday!
Is it a single or a Grat?
Might be a grat, I would think.
They seem to be going with TOOTIME and with an album release on 30/11 the pre album single should be released around mid October. I do hope they keep the biggest release for just before the album!
Another smash! It reminds me a bit of This Could Be My Dream.
Really not sure I'm feeling that new track on first listen... though I wasn't sure on "Give Yourself A Try" and "Love It If We Made It" at first and grew to love those (particularly the latter).
I'm really enjoying this era, some good tracks.
Got tickets to their tour next year via the Spotify presale!
https://twitter.com/jamieoborne/status/1044133038542729216
Apparently this could be LIIWMI video!

Love It If We Made It video coming next week!
http://diymag.com/2018/10/15/the-1975-new-song-its-not-living-if-its-not-with-you-a-brief-inquiry-into-online-relationships
It's Not Living (If It's Not With You) releasing this Thursday!
I'm really excited for this one.
LIIWMI video released, very powerful!
This is amazing! Reminds me so much of the first album.
Really like this! I think it’s the best they’ve put out from this new album!
I agree, I'm also getting Pale Waves vibes from this!
https://www.instagram.com/p/BpaBZ3VBr2N
Sincerity is Scary video coming soon!
The new one is really growing on me now! Really looking forward to this album.
"Sincerity Is Scary" has been the only one I've not been fussed on but I'm sure it'll sound good in context of the album.
I still cant believe this album is a month away. This album release feels like forever.
Same here - strange it didn't get a release this week or last like planned, wonder if that'll affect the sales as we clearly will have ANOTHER single before release which may get smothered in the Xmas rush although I feel they are hyped up as a big pre Xmas release even though they're an indie release which tends to not do as well in a very MOR time of the year!
So will the current single be TOOTIME or that other one doingthe rounds at the mo?
It's Not Living is on HHUK at the moment, so I assume that one.
Yeh - prob my least favourite they've put out there. Looking forward to the album still tho! Could be my personal Xmas no1 😮
I think my current ranking would be:
1. It's Not Living (If It's Not With You)
2. TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME (it's so damn catchy!)
3. Give Yourself a Try
4. Love It If We Made It
5. Sincerity is Scary
I absolutely love all of them though!
Mine would go like this
1) Love it if we Made it
2) TOOTIMETOOTIME
3) Give Yourself a Try
4) It's Not Living
5) Sincerity is Scary
1. TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME
2. Love It If We Made It
3. It's Not Living (If It's Not With You)
4. Give Yourself A Try
5. Sincerity Is Scary
INL(IINWY) has potential to rise to 2 or even 1 in this list though.
"TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME" spent 3 weeks at number 1 in my chart in September and is in my top 5 of the year-to-date
They are also filming a video for It's Not Living, it would be nice if it was an entirely visual album!
TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME has grown on me quite a bit lately but I can't say the same for anything else they've released so far :/ I imagine this will be one of those albums where barely any of the tracks really hit you individually but as a whole the album will still be great to listen to.

First reviews out!
"The band of the decade" - Q Magazine
"Stunning" - Pitchfork
"An absolute stone-cold-legend masterpiece..." - NME
"The band's third album is their best yet" - ES Magazine
https://i.imgur.com/uK0EiZ8.jpg
The first full review is out from Q Magazine - and they've given it 5/5!
Their favourite tracks from the album are:
It's Not Living (If It's Not With You)
I Always Wanna Die (Sometimes)
Inside Your Mind
Love It If We Made It
I don't think I've ever been more excited for an album, bring on November 30!
https://www.nme.com/reviews/album/1975-brief-inquiry-online-relationships-review
Another 5/5 review - from the NME!
"They've only gone and made the millennial answer to 'OK Computer'..."
"Matty Healy and George Daniel are not just the most accomplished and creative duo working in pop right now but the closest thing we have to a present-day Lennon and McCartney, a pair whose golden touch makes them near-enough unassailable."
Looking good for the sound and sales for this! Anyone think it could open with huge sales?
I'm not sure what to think of this whole five singles before an album comes out, remember Muse's Drones with six of its tracks being released before the album even came out (I still thought it was a great album nonetheless). I would prefer two or three before that album's release because then there's more exciting anticipation.
Here's how I would rank the singles:
5. It's Not Living (If It's Not Without You)
4. Disorder Give Yourself A Try
3. Sincerity Is Scary
2. Love It If We Made It
1. TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME
All great tracks.
To be fair, Drones had 12 tracks, this has 15!
(and 16 on the Japanese edition)
Fantastic video, very fun!
It's leaked! I'm not going to listen to the whole thing until Friday (I hope), but I skipped through some of the tracks and its sounding incredible!
I Always Wanna Die (Sometimes) should definitely be pushed next - very 90s Britpop sounding!
Just a few hours until it releases! An acoustic version of unreleased track '102' has been released, it's apparently a bonus track in Japan as well.
This is an album I will be adding to my library at midnight on the dot - surely not a Christmas no1?
Incredible album! I'll post my fill thoughts tomorrow!
The robot song is phenomonal
Video coming on Monday
Wow, what an album. I've already listened to it 3 times and each time has been amazing.
This is the first album I think I've ever listened to with absolutely no dud tracks. I Always Wanna Die (Sometimes) is one of the greatest tracks they've released, and a brilliant closer to the album.
I love how nuts The Man Who Married A Robot / Love Theme is. It's slightly creepy as well.
It is creepy lol, listened to the album once and wasn't bowled over but I think it will grow on me as I like how diverse it is!
Oh yes, it's definitely very diverse! Most albums I can't listen to all the way through because it all sounds the same, but I love how different each and every track sounds, whilst still being similar due to being about online relationships.
flawless
Taken me a good 3-4 listens, but I am really digging the album at the moment. Originally there were a few tracks I liked, but it's growing on me so much. I still think all the singles are the best tracks (and obviously the most commercial) but I really like how honest and open the album is. It's kinda refreshing.
50k sales not to be a snifffed at to open the album with!!
This album has had the highest weekly sales of a casette since July 2002!
Omfg thats awful!
So that’s based on what just Friday sales? Not expecting that at all! Maybe they’ll recover a little?
This record is only going to grow from now. It'll keep getting beaten over and over again like with the highest weekly streams record.
Drops 1-33, the 2nd biggest drop from #1 EVER.
I was expecting it to stay top 10!
That's a wild drop, hopefully will recover in the new year when the MOR leaves the chart!!
https://twitter.com/NintendoUK/status/1073562081281171456
This made me laugh so hard!
That's class!!
Well this is a grower already!
"It's Not Living (If It's Not With You)" is THE banger isn't it. Future classic
Hope it can repeak in the next few weeks!
It'll recover well over the next 2-3 weeks as it's 6.99 now as well!
Based on what they've released up to now (I'm sure they'll be more classics in the future), I think their most remembered songs in 20 years time will be Chocolate, Somebody Else, The Sound and It's Not Living. Possibly Sex, TOOTIME and I Always Wanna Die as well.
Who’ll remember 1975 in 20 years time though?
They'll 100% be remembered in 20 years time, and further.
I know even for the first two albums imo!
Definitely!
The Smiths were never 'massive' in the 80s, but they had a cult fanbase and incredible albums which led to them still being very fondly remembered.
Indeed, they did enjoy decent singles chart success by the totp repeats although more top 30/20 hits!!
why did they drop so far? their literally one of the most popular bands right?
"I Always Want To Die (Sometimes)" is really starting to hit me now They've already had 3 #2 hits and 1 #1 in my hot 100 from this album. Very consistent. Oddly I haven't given the album much time yet, only 2 or 3 listens.
Same here that'll change this week now Xmas is over. Don't think we will get another release as they will move into the second album in the coming months!!
The 1975 are performing on The Graham Norton Show next week!
Also, the stage design for the UK tour is insane
Which song? "I Always Wanna Die (Sometimes)" hopefully!
I imagine it will be It's Not Living, as that's the one on the radio at the moment.
Good promo - hopefully boost the album again.
Was trying to go and see them in Belfast this week but couldn't afford it
Nominated for Group and Album at the Brits - they've got this!
Great news!
Looks like I Like America & America Like Me will be the next single, hopefully we get an official video soon!
Thought we would have moved straight onto album 2 this year, good to see thoigh!
I assumed more that the album would have 2/3 pre singles like the last so thought they'd move on quickly!
Winner of the Brit Award for Best British Album!
Love It If We Made It is Greg James’ time of the week on Radio 1 next week so I think that confirms it as the next single!
Apparently they've filmed a video for I Like America & America Likes Me, so we'll probably get that around late March/early April.
The lead for the next album is out on May 31st.
(though they still haven't released the She's American video from a couple of years ago apparently because they were angry Trump won)
horrid title
the follow-up is equally contrary
Video breakdowns coming soon!
This is both informative and hilarious
"AND I DO MAKE ART, THANK YOU VERY MUCH"
This just confirms that Matt Healey is a piece of ****
He has the nerve to say that when they release Drake rip-offs
That's one quote, from over 2 years ago.
I don't agree with that, but this is such a strange time to bring this up - especially as he's changed his view on this since.
It’s currently doing the rounds on Twitter as Dan from Imagine Dragons has done an interview but artists who trash-talk their music.
Did you just say that Tootime sounds nothing like Drake’s song? Did I read that correctly?
EDIT: nvm, you removed it
Whenever he said it, that article is a perfect representation of why I can't stand him and his pretentious attitude
You do realise people can dislike your fave and you don't have to get defensive and pull into question their opinions etc?
Even Matty himself described TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME as "Drake-y" it's definitely inspired a lot by songs like One Dance.
There's no harm posting other 1975-related stuff in here, it's not like there's a general 1975 thread to discuss matters like that. It's a bit of an arrogant statement to make, I must say. Matty's a talented musician but I always hate it when artists diss other artists in that sort-of way. It's unnecessary and just makes you look twatty.
U can also defend your faves tho it cuts both ways x
Its not like people don't on other threads...
‘Not related to the album at all’. How come it’s alright for you to post non-album related content then?
Wow where did all the Pop forum posters creep up from
The latest twitter controversy. He is SUCH an idiot who does not deserve an ounce of fame.
lol
Explanation for what happened
That reads like he’s just trying to save face after criticism tbh. In the clip he doesn’t look like it’s all a big joke.
It happened again It's pretty obvious it's a running joke with the over the top push, laughing and then they kissed at the end.
don't think there's another band at the moment that I dislike more
Insane headlining set at Big Weekend, one of the best crowds all weekend as well - banger after banger and the best 'selling petrol' crowd response yet!
Reading and Leeds in August will be even better!
Starting to see ‘It’s Not Living’ trending on TikTok... it has racked up 168m streams thus far but I’d *love* to see it get the chart justice it deserves!
