NOW! 94 has no #1s, funny enough that was the last time Drake had a monster run at #1.

NOW! 96 also has no #1s from the era, but it does include George Michael's 'Fastlove' so that doesn't truly count.

It’ll soon have a #1 (either FRIENDS, Paradise or more likely, These Days).

Over half of the songs didn't even make the top 10! I think they might need to go down to 2 a year soon. June and November maybe.

I am more concerned with the amount of songs that haven’t gone top 40, or even top 75!!

Definitely think it needs to go down to 2 a year now.

How many of those are there? Looking at the tracklisting there are several songs I've never heard of, but I'm getting a bit out of the loop myself.

NOW 16 didn’t have any #1s due to the #1s during that period being licensed to the HITS series

They’re probably such cash cows that unless there’s a serious dip in sales (e.g if a numbered edition doesn’t pass 300k total sales) I doubt they’ll reduce to two a year. Germany’s Bravo Hits has four editions a year and therefore it’s not uncommon for there to only be 10-15 true smash hits on each album.

I think the compilers have the right idea stuffing them with songs by album sellers now to pad out the tracklist where more hits aren’t available and help it to appeal to as wide a demographic as possible - I’d say there’s a good argument for Kylie, Paloma, Rag n Bone Man and Calum Scott to be on there with those low charting singles for that reason.

But yeah, as Cqmerqn says, there will soon be a No.1 on this edition. Amazed that they couldn’t license Perfect for it in all honesty but I would imagine Ed/his team must have asked for it to be saved for the landmark Now 100 (no doubt he’s hoping to snag Disc 1, Track 1 on there but the song will surely be too old by then to be given that honour).

I prefer some of the tracks that didn’t make the top 40 tbh. The singles chart is quite boring to me these days and I doubt a lot of the people buying Nows even pay attention to the charts.

In all fairness most of these can still be considered pretty big.

Dancing is Kylie’s big comeback, it’s fairly well known and she’s a huge name with a #1 album coming soon.
Guilty, You Are The Reason and As You Are are follow up singles to big hits from artists who recently had huge albums.
Leave A Light On was almost Top 40 and only missed out due to streaming, would’ve been Top 30 at least otherwise
Location and The Weekend are big, well known urban tracks. Sure they didn’t make the mainstream Top 40 but are popular elsewhere
Wavey is a club hit that hasn’t had much crossover yet (if at all), I imagine this could’ve been Cola-sized with a bit more support so Now added it with hopes of getting a brand new hit
Tell Me You Love Me & Wait are less easy to back up, they’re following big-ish singles from big-ish albums but are more likely here just for star power as I don’t see either song being a hit
You’re The Best Thing About Me is also odd, U2 are a huge name in music although arguably not so much anymore and neither this song nor it’s album have been too huge

I wonder if Shape Of You will be Disc 1 Track 1 on Now 100?

“As You Are” is actually the predecessor with “Grace” being the successor so with “Grace” being on NOW 98, they should have either not included AYA on NOW 99 or include AYA on 98 and “Grace” on 99

Yeah I was initially puzzled but it makes a lot of sense for NOW! to put on big-name artists such as RnB Man, Kylie and Maroon 5 even if their singles didn't perform very well. They need to give the casual R2 listener reasons to buy the compilation.

If they’re including songs from big selling albums, they should’ve included “Cold” by Stormzy on NOW 97 seeing as it was spawned from a #1 album and it was a top 30 hit

I remember when the benchmark for getting onto a NOW album would be either being a top 15 hit or a future release.

The charts are that bloody slow they've got no choice to include non-hits.

I guess it depends on how many of the hits they can get at the time to fill the album. The flops are just the fillers.

Just checked my copy of Now 2 - 'Hyperactive' by Thomas Dolby had already peaked at 17 and was on its way back down. Brilliant tune though.

Younger readers may not be aware that the first non-Top 40 hit on a Now album was as long ago as Now 6, although obviously they did so unknowingly.

I know there were occasional exceptions, but that was generally the pattern I always noticed...

Another fact, four songs from NOW 1 missed the top 10
