I have to agree with the top 9 of the bookies predictions - the last qualifier is a toughie; Russia and Romania have diaspora help; Russia also has neighbourly help - though the effect of both seems to be a lot less these days, thankfully! I think it'll be one of these two to grab the last qualifier spot. If Julia is much better vocally - or they've managed to get backing vocalists strong enough to mask her - then they'll go through I think. It's the strongest song of the remaining (bar Montenegro, but that's probably just me - I'd like to see that through). Romania's has been growing on me despite me feeling it doesn't really go anywhere. I expect it may have an epic live performance like Switzerland's last night - though they still managed to miss the final - though in a much stronger semi.

Denmark of those 10 is certainly the one that sticks out as potentially being a shock DNQ, in favour of probably Malta or Romania. I've got a horrible feeling Jess might do a Sea Of Flags type vocal and come like 11th but this semi is so awful that surely not It seems straightforward as only really Malta or Romania sound like they cause an upset of the predicted DNQs (I *guess* Russia but not if her vocals are that bad) but you never know with Eurovision

The only ones I particularly want to Q are Australia, Ukraine, Moldova, Sweden and Slovenia, and I've made peace with the fact the latter isn't getting above 17th I don't mind Poland/Denmark/Hungary/Netherlands so them being predicted to Q is fine, but I'm also not that fussed if they didn't Q. Ideally Rybak would flop on his arse with possibly the most embarrassing song ever sent to Eurovision, but dream on Liam

I do get the feeling we're going to get a 'fast food' pop song winning this year after the last two winners, we have strong uptempos and I think the public are wanting a 'fun' song to return to the top. We haven't had anything that could be described as 'fun' and 'carefree' since Satellite imo!

Salvador is a VILE individual, absolute idiot. Honestly who does he think he is? Even if he hadn't watched the show etc., he must know the scale of the competition and how much it might have affected his life and the fame it would bring. I can't stand the music snobbery attitude, of course we all have opinions on the song and that's fine but I can't abide the fact he thinks he is so far above Eurovision and most things entered because of the genre of his song.

I honestly gained a lot of respect for Jacques for that post (even if it was a bit nonsensical here and there) and lost whatever shrivel of respect I may have stashed somewhere for Salvador.

Jessica missed a few notes last night and put her mic out to the crowd a few times at the end of the song presumably because her voice was almost gone. Her voice has sounded more and more tired as the week has gone on. Nevertheless, I still think it was easily competent enough to get the jury support it needs!

In this afternoon's rehearsal though she sounded pretty great. I'm sure she'll be fine!

Yeah it's gonna be their lowest placement anyway which is gutting given the utter shite that got them to 9th last year Like Saara though I think she's just happy to represent her country and be on the stage with her song so like Saara I'm just happy if she gets the final mostly! Possibly not, but I can't see anyone touching him, or even particularly close, in the public vote for this semi. So even coming 3rd or 4th with the jury could be enough to keep him top.

Sergey could've come like 6th or 7th with the juries in his semi in 2016 and still have won the semi because his televote lead was so great. He could've got 0pts from the juries and still nearly come top 5 infact, and I see Alexander potentially being this years Sergey.

Rybak was f***ing HORRENDOUS. Seriously each to their own but I cannot fathom how anyone could look at that and think anything even remotely positive. It was completely out of tune and cheesy, the song still sounds to me like something we'd reject to send in 2006.

BUT that guitar dive into the chorus was just what I wanted, I guess the statues will catch the eye and looks-wise they look very much like a No Doubt or Paramore, I think that was performed well. GET IT THROUGH GUYS

Agreed, she wasn't bad by any means but the vocals were definitely slightly off imo. On the other hand, Benjy seems to be getting slated for his usual high standard of performing! Different strokes I guess...

OK I thought people might be exaggerating how bad this semi was (as I didn't think semi 1 was quite as flawless as people suggested) but they weren't wrong lmao. I've known and loved Sweden for a while now of course and Australia's song is brilliant, but beyond that, I only especially cared for Poland.

Finland is the strongest from there this year but Denmark is a better song than Norway and Sweden this year.

as my wishlist from this lot. It's not been as bad as most are saying but I was struggling to fill the final couple of slots, Denmark really messed it up and they're only in there begrudgingly now because I'd still like a viking beard in the final even if he's not singing very well. Otherwise I'd actually promote Malta as a performance that surprised me but I think we can do without them.
