We've just got eight fresh casualties on the eurovision battlefield. Share with us your diagnosis for the cause of death.
The main three of interest at the moment: FINLAND - Really, Blackbird only won it's own National Final because the obvious choice had an absolute disaster of a performance. If Emma hadn't fuc ICELAND - See, Paper was the best song but I think by the time Svala came on people were just heartily sick of women in long white dresses. I reckon one of the Arons could have actually managed it. LATVIA - This was still the best song, I just think they got crowded out of a really difficult semi and didn't manage to translate the same energy they had in Latvia onto the stage in Kyiv. |

I think Latvia might have been a bit OTT, I know that worked for Azerbaijan but the staging was a bit garish and liked they tried everything when they only needed like half of that The other two I can't figure where it went wrong, other than Iceland being Iceland Finland I had pegged as top 10 in the final, maybe all their voters went for Portugal idk.

European public having an epic fail in taste and/or juries ruining everything AGAIN to blame for Iceland/Finland.

Latvia didn't have the performance they needed to go through, I think it lacked the punch it needed from the studio version, and that production doesn't translate the best to a live stage.
I don't buy that Iceland are now suddenly doomed no matter what they're sending, it didn't stop them for 7 years between 2008 and 2014, and if you look at those entries, they all have something more than just a woman coming out to sing a 'strong pop' song, well, Yohanna aside, but that was on another level. I think both Hear Them Calling and Paper have suffered from being late on in a semi and not really doing that much to catch attention or to differentiate themselves from what's been on before, instead preferring to rely on the underlying strength of the song as a pop song, which SHOULD see it through but sometimes Eurovision doesn't work the way it should in that regard, they haven't done the presentation, they're not going through. Paper in particular would have been competing with Georgia and Albania and unfortunately it doomed them all. Finland is one I have no clue about. I would be very surprised if anything else was 11th, that had to have been strong with the jury and it should have resonated well with the televote too, they came across excellently on stage, maybe if they had been looking into each others eyes then it would have been over the line. |

I'm probably alone when I say I loved Slovenia but I knew it wouldn't go through. Iceland and Finland should have went through I was sure Finland especially would and surely they are 11th and 12th. Poland going through was a big surprise and I hope they were 10th.

Finland could've had ACTUAL Blackbird on stage...
I'm very disappointed that it didn't qualify, there was some utter garbage that went through, Poland and Moldova in particular. But as we all know ESC is rarely about quality, it's about how the broadcasting company uses their 3 minutes |

Don't know about Finland, really scratching my head at that.
Iceland was again very technically good and a decent (not sensational) song, but it was never going to be top with the juries and I think Paper also has more of a blogpop friendly sound than commercial success type sound, hence not really reeling in the casual televoting audience. You could hardly imagine a song like that doing well on Spotify, for example. |

Yeah, Iceland wasn't surprising at all. Quality song but in a "poor man's Robyn" type of way

Estonia is the biggest shock for me, I thought it was a sure qualification.

Serbia fell really flat live for me, there was no chance it was being remembered later on. I thought it might be through because they're rather strong on the televote but we know they're not immune either so I wasn't too surprised.
Switzerland is apparently jury out but I'm not convinced it was anywhere near top 10 on the televote either. |

So the one time I REALLY get into Eurovision we end up losing two of the best songs (Latvia & Macedonia) while Australia and Portugal live to play another day.
I'm sorry you guys. I think I cursed this contest. |
