Barco Escape To Show Lady Gaga & Tony Bennett Concert In Theatres

Barco, the giant cinema technology
company , is hoping Lady Gaga and
Tony Bennett will lend some star power
to its new panoramic theater system.
Last week, Barco unveiled its 270-degree panoramic theater screen experience that uses three screens and multiple projectors to put audiences in the middle of the action. The system, dubbed Barco Escape, debuted in a small number of Cinemark theaters with the release of Fox movie “The Maze Runner.” This week the Belgium-based company will announce another venture to promote its new technology. Barco will collaborate with Universal Music/ Interscope Records and recording artists Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga to bring their performance at the Grand Palace in Brussels into Barco Escape theaters in early 2015.

The performance will be filmed today specifically for the Barco format, the day before Tony Bennett and Lady
Gaga’s “Cheek to Cheek” album of jazz and popular standards is set to release worldwide. “To me, going to the cinema is a magical experience, but with so many entertainment options available, not everyone thinks about movies that way anymore,” said Todd Hoddick, vice president of Global Cinema for Barco.

Hoddick developed Barco Escape with Ted Schilowitz, co-founder of the widely used low-cost digital Red Camera. While it’s not cheap — the system costs $120,000 to $150,000 to install in theaters — Barco believes theater goers are hungry for technology that gives them new reason to go to the multiplex. Theaters have been offering moving seats, extra wide screens, dine-in-theater options and live concerts as a way to lure patrons.

“Whether it’s a movie, a concert, video gaming or something else, the Barco Escape experience gives audiences something they can’t get anywhere but at their local cinema,” Hoddick said.

The Telegraph:
QUOTE
Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett, Grand Place, Brussels, review: 'match made in heaven'

Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett make surprise appearance at Frank Sinatra School of the Arts on June 16, 2014 in New York City.
Picture: Kevin Mazur / WireImage

Against all expectations, this one-off gig was a cross-generational triumph, says Anne Billson Katharine Hepburn once said of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, “he gives her class, and she gives him sex appeal.” The same could be said of Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga. He’s a living legend, one of the classic American voices and master of the sort of deceptively laid back delivery that takes a lifetime to pull off. She’s the world’s flashiest disco diva, as famed for wearing meat frocks as for her flamboyant electropop.

For one night only, they interrupted their respective world tours to meet up on a specially erected stage in Brussels’s Grand Place - the most beautiful square in Europe, its gothic facades bathed in blue and violet light.

They were there to mark the release of Cheek to Cheek, their album of jazz duets drawn from the Great American Songbook, with a short but intense set in front of a packed crowd, a mix of Gaga’s “Little Monsters” and older Bennett fans intrigued by what sounded on paper like a gimmick, but which turned out to be a match made in heaven.

It’s hard to believe Bennett is 88. He and his band had just finished a two-hour set at the nearby Cirque Royale, yet he still had energy for half a dozen duets from the album, plus a couple of solos, including I Left My Heart in San Francisco, which now fits him like a pair of old slippers.

He was dapper in a grey lounge suit; Gaga was unexpectedly voluptuous in a halter-necked sequinned gown that teetered just the right side of respectable, her white cocktail hat making her look like a smoochier version of Wallis Simpson. Though I doubt the Duchess of Windsor could have belted out those George Gershwin, Cole Porter or Duke Ellington classics with quite such pizzazz.

These are songs that sound their best in smoky, intimate dives, and the Grand Place sound system didn’t do either singer any favours, but Bennett had the lungs to compensate, and Gaga had the moves.

While it’s probably a little premature to start comparing her to Ella Fitzgerald, she can find her way around a jazz standard without Auto-Tune, making you curious to hear how this collaboration will affect her solo output in future. This oddest of odd couples played to each other as much as to the crowd, as though unable to believe their luck in finding themselves in this partnership, and his being her senior by 60 years didn’t seem creepy in the slightest. “This man has changed my life,” she announced, ’He’s my Bob Hope; he’s my Frank Sinatra.”

And sometimes, as when she was singing Lush Life, she sounded older and wearier than anyone in their twenties had any right to sound. Perhaps the generation gap isn’t as wide as it appears.

LG To Present Bennett/ Gaga Concert Special In Ultra HD

QUOTE
LG Electronics USA will present a concert performance by Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga, “Cheek to Cheek LIVE!,” next month on PBS, and the concert will be streamed later this year in 4K Ultra HD resolution via Amazon's Instant Video streaming service. LG is calling the event "the world’s first concert to be streamed in Ultra HD."

“We couldn’t think of a better way to enhance the LG 4K Ultra HD experience than by teaming up with Amazon and such iconic and such extraordinary performers as Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga,” said David Van der Waal, head of marketing for LG Electronics USA.

“Literally hundreds of thousands of Americans are purchasing LG 4K Ultra HD TVs this year, and they’re clamoring for more Ultra HD content. We hope they enjoy this experience as much as we enjoy bringing it to them.”

Gaga and Tony to perform at The Cosmopolitan on New Year's Eve!

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett are set to take the stage at The Cosmopolitan casino on New Year's Eve for their first show together in the U.S. since they released a joint album late last month.

The Las Vegas Strip resort announced
Monday that the 28-year-old pop superstar and the 88-year-old jazz crooner will ring in the new year with jazz standards from their album "Cheek to Cheek." "I can't wait to kick off 2015 'cheek to cheek' with the legendary Mr. Tony Bennett," Lady Gaga said in a statement. "New Year's celebrations are about cherishing family, friendship, and the future — three things this man has taught me much about."

Tickets for the show go on sale Friday. Las Vegas welcomes more than 300,000 visitors each New Year's Eve holiday, and casinos step up with top-tier music acts, world-renowned DJs and an elaborate fireworks show. Bringing in Bennett and Lady Gaga is an effort to distinguish the resort during a highly competitive time in the market, according to The Cosmopolitan's chief marketing officer, Lisa Marchese. "We wanted to one-up ourselves for what people can expect," she said. "It's such an unexpected mashup — you just want to see it."

Due to popular demand a second date at the Royal Albert Hall has been added yahoo.gif

QUOTE
Following the immediate sell out of their June 8th performance at Royal Albert Hall, Live Nation is pleased to announce that due to demand, Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga will be now be performing two shows at the Royal Albert Hall. As previously announced, the first of these two shows on Monday 8th will be to the benefit of WellChild, the national charity for seriously ill children which has Prince Harry as its Patron.

These one in a lifetime performances will feature tracks from their critically acclaimed album Cheek to Cheek which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 charts upon its release on Sept. 23. At 88, Bennett remains the oldest artist in music industry history to have an album on the #1 spot on the Billboard charts. Cheek To Cheek marks Lady Gaga's third consecutive #1 album release in just over three years. The performances will be accompanied by a full orchestra along with each artist's jazz ensembles who will also serve as special guests for the evening.
