I'm so excited for this!!!

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 21st March 2018, 07:52 PM

I hope it's good, but considering what Calvin put out a few weeks ago my hopes aren't exactly high...

Buzzjack just died of excitement.

Amazing that they're collabing! Hope it comes out soon. dance.gif

Posted by: mdh 21st March 2018, 09:25 PM

yeah if this is instant and accessible i could see it debuting at #1

Posted by: Juan Carlos 🌴 21st March 2018, 09:32 PM

A remix of Halsey's song will be out next week, while his new single (this one) is going to be released in two weeks. Both of them are banging.

At some point I’ll probably pack it all in to grow heritage grains in the south of France like Andy from Groove Armada did; but for now I have a Halsey remix coming in about a week and a new single in about 2 weeks and they’re both banging ❤️

Two fantastic artists, I really hope this is good!

Speak for yourself laugh.gif Although Dua > Halsey any day

Posted by: Midge 22nd March 2018, 02:42 AM

Looking forward to both!

Also Calvin remixes can really emulate a song - a la "Spectrum (Say My Name)". While I like a bit of Florence, he had the midas touch with that track.

Posted by: DannyAdelante 22nd March 2018, 03:55 AM

This could be amazing! Calvin Harris 2009 - 2015 is one of my favourite artists ever. I really wasn't into his latest stuff. Hope he goes back to his roots. And Dua has been excellent with everything she's done so far, so..... high hopes!

Posted by: Cody Rippon 22nd March 2018, 04:55 AM

well sign me up for both

Butlooking forward to the dua lipa song
Hope its a We found love kinda smash

Rumoured to be released this Friday. Length of the song is 3:36 min., apparently.

Posted by: Midge 28th March 2018, 04:37 AM

I wonder if this has what it takes to go straight to number 1? Unlikely as although both are big, neither are Drake or urban genre which is dominating right now. But I'm excited!

I'm kind of thinking it'll perform initially slightly better than Shawn Mendes "In My Blood" but with more potential to climb to 1 in its first few weeks if the song is good. Though sales ARE low at the moment.

Bjork does like to write many of his posts in poem form, which he should never change, as it is very unique.

Anyway, looking forward to this Calvin and Two Lips song. Hopefully it can be music which can be defined as dance and not dancepop.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 28th March 2018, 06:52 PM

Stop trying to make "Two Lips" happen.

Posted by: cqmisa 28th March 2018, 09:38 PM

What does Two Lips actually mean?

Yeah same, on paper this is a dream but This Is What We Came For ended up SO basic and disappointing, and everything since bar Slide and Feel has been horrendous :/

i thought that - similar to the 'Ghost Voices' EP cover in that it looks like something straight out of 2002. love it.

Posted by: cqmisa 2nd April 2018, 07:40 PM

Has anyone scanned the bar code?

Posted by: Liаm 2nd April 2018, 07:40 PM

I'm hoping the cassette design means it sounds like that sort of era's dance music, that might be overthinking it though laugh.gif He can be such a good producer so it's shame when he peddles generic crap or whatever on earth most of Funk Wav Sounds was.

Don't we usually have to wait until the morning for releases which are more "worldwide-centric" rather than "UK-centric"?

After a couple of listens, I'm not hugely disappointed but it's not an out and out banger I'm stanning yet, but perhaps it needs more listens. It's giving me first era Clean Bandit a bit, solid bop.

Not sure what I think of this currently. It does sound a bit pedestrian but I can definitely see this being a grower.

It reminds me of Madison Avenue's 'Don't Call Me Baby' in parts.

Posted by: Jade 6th April 2018, 04:47 PM

This is a pretty basic bop lyrically but I'm a fan nevertheless, the throwback feel elevates it. Glad to be back on board with Dua after I didn't get the appeal of 'IDGAF' at all

Posted by: Rooney 6th April 2018, 04:49 PM

Very old-skool feel, was not feeling it on the first listen but have heard a few times and it's a song. The beats are great, I don't think Dua Lipa sounds too recognisable on it though? At least in some parts for sure.

Can see this as a big tune though.

Only listened once but I was a little underwhelmed sad.gif I think it'll grow but it's certainly not the huge banger I was hoping for.

Posted by: Dobbo 6th April 2018, 07:30 PM

Not sure why anyone was expecting a "banger" really - it's clear he's not going to return to his 18 Months-style sound again. It's not even just the last album either, he was releasing more subdued stuff before that. The closest thing we had to a banger was TIWYCF & that had the most underwhelming drop of the decade...

Posted by: Bré 6th April 2018, 07:35 PM

I really like the sound of this, very retro but very fresh sounding as well since there's really nothing else in the charts at the moment that sounds anything like this. I kinda agree with Rooney re: Dua not sounding recognisable on it though, the vocalist could just as easily have been anyone else and it'd be just as good.

I don't really see how it's "clear" that he's not going to return to a more commercial sound again when he only released a huge club banger in 2016 with Rihanna? Fair enough if he'd been putting out album after album like Funk Wav, but he hasn't so..

As for TIWYCF having "the most underwhelming drop of the decade", well, I couldn't disagree more!

Admittedly I've only heard her singles and feature tracks but far the very intro when she sings the verses I don't think it sounds like her much at all, I would not instantly say this is Dua Lipa for example. Certainly not as distinctive as IDGAF/New Rules etc.

I'm enjoying this more and more though, it's got an awesome beat. But it's also very very chilled, kind of a mix between his most recent eras really..

You-ooh-ooh worked a few times after the chorus but it should have changed to something else for the rest of the drop instead of just going you-ooh-ooh in a lower pitched voice which get boring and tedious. It sounded like Calvin was on autopilot tbh.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 6th April 2018, 08:55 PM

It was basically Calvin on autopilot. It felt like he'd pretty much given up trying by that point.

Posted by: BridgeCow 6th April 2018, 09:23 PM

I'm obsessed with this I've been listening all day it's so addictive

Posted by: Jüpiter 6th April 2018, 11:43 PM

I feel like it doesnt sound like a Dua Lipa song either. It feels like the recipe for this was going to be this instrumental and a feature from whoever was #1 pop girl at the time, instead of being crafted to work with Dua specifically.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 6th April 2018, 11:50 PM

I feel it sounds more identifiable as Dua than say, Paloma Faith on 'Lullaby'.

Posted by: Cqmerqn 7th April 2018, 10:09 AM

Yes Dua’s voice is 100% recognisable on this. Love it.

Posted by: Dexton 7th April 2018, 10:14 AM

Dua’s will help this a lot, I think it could’ve been a hit without her but there’s no way Calvin would be challenging for a #1 debut without Dua

Posted by: Dobbo 7th April 2018, 10:35 AM

That's very true^ What a difference a couple of years makes when it Dua herself relying on features (Scared To Be Lonely, No Lie) for hits!

Posted by: Chez Wombat 7th April 2018, 12:06 PM

I think this is really great, definitely grows with repeated listens and it's SO early 00s which is brilliant as (going by the current dance tracks in the top 10 which I happened to hear yesterday) we really need a different style of dance.

The production and the beat feel like something that could have been recorded for FROOT. It's so simple and feels like a FROOT/Blue mash up.

After a few listens this is growing on me but definitely isn't as instant as New Rules or Calvin's output (MW, TIWYCF, etc).

Posted by: Bré 7th April 2018, 03:17 PM

To be clear I didn't really mean it doesn't sound like Dua Lipa, I just mean it sounds like it could be anyone. It doesn't really have much of Dua's 'sound' to it.

Posted by: Addyland 7th April 2018, 03:53 PM

But this is Calvin's single though so obviously it would be more Calvin sound than Dua per se!!!

Posted by: Liаm 7th April 2018, 03:54 PM

Exactly laugh.gif Of course it's gonna be a dance song which isn't what Dua is known for, it's not gonna produced by Calvin Harris for his era and be a pop song. It's good to hear her on something different without it being plonked on the album sounding weird for the sake of variety, a feature is the perfect opportunity for that.

Robin S, Joey Negro, Ultra Nate, Blaze, are some examples.

I’m seeing a lot of promo out and about, digital billboards in London.
#1 on iTunes, #3 on Apple Music.

Drake will probably overtake though.

But this is Calvin's single though so obviously it would be more Calvin sound than Dua per se!!!

Is it? They're jointly credited so one would assume this is a collaboration, not a feature.

Posted by: RobBob 7th April 2018, 06:15 PM

I mean it is but it’s similar to Sigala and Paloma Faith having equal billing even though it’s very clearly to Sigala’s style and not at all Paloma’s typical.

It's only jointly credited to increase Spotify exposure (ie. it will appear as Dua's "newest release" on her Spotify page), this tactic has been used a lot in the past year or so! See also: Kygo & Selena Gomez, Zedd & Alessia Cara, Mabel & Not3s, etc

UK garage is a completely different genre though, and uses a different style of beat.

I still think there is definitely a bit of a UK garage vibe to 'One Kiss' in the instrumental. Two Lips's singing style reminds me of Jorja Smith in 'On My Mind' too.

Posted by: slowdown73 9th April 2018, 05:58 PM

I prefer this to anything from Funk Waves Bounce but it’s still a bland track. He has done so much better as well and now seems to be just releasing generic crap.

Posted by: lewistgreen 9th April 2018, 06:14 PM

#2 officially in the midweeks today just behind Ruti!

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 9th April 2018, 06:31 PM

As much as I love this, I do wish Calvin would release more songs like from I Created Disco.

500k streams for today! ohmy.gifm
Should be 600k next week!!

Posted by: danG 17th April 2018, 04:47 PM

Enters at #62 in the US, not bad considering it'd be 10 places higher without all the Cardi tracks. #19 on Spotify there too so it should be a big hit. biggrin.gif

This is definitely a song made for the summer.

I've liked it since first listen but it suddenly sounded fantastic walking in the sun the last couple of days.

Still not into this track & think it’s weak compared to most of his earlier stuff with the exception of funk waves bounce which I hated!

How Deep Is Your Love, We Found Love and This Is What We Came For are all 2x Platinum, I'm sure this will reach that as one of the absolute biggest hits of the year.

Doesn't make Dua look like she belongs in a cheaply produced British beach holiday resort advertisement.

I'm not going back to it a *huge* amount lately oops, idk if it's just because I was listening to SO much Eurovision stuff only my absolute top faves like say No Tears Left To Cry have really got a look in though laugh.gif So I wouldn't say bored of it as such it might creep back on me as I go back to other music more now Eurovision is done!

I think this is why I’m bored of it tbh. Eurovision music took over, and like you said, only No Tears Left To Cry got a look in!

For me I did enjoy it to begin with but it doesn't have that replayability factor. Duas vocals are a bit too droney & monotonous but it is a good summer track ill give it that.
