Hello and welcome to the Buzzjack Movies awards presentation which will kick off some point this evening (specific time will come later)! 15 of you so far have loved on some of 2015's best films so be prepared for shocks, surprises and some non surprises as we present the awards which will hopefully be fun, please people comment and join in during the Awards reveal. Tonight's presentation will predominately be hosted by Jahq and Josh with myself either popping in at the start or the end due to being out and we should be able to get through all the Awards! Mindy *.* Should've had a supporting actress nom for The Night Before
And we start tonight with... BIGGEST BOX OFFICE DISASTER  The winner is FANTASTIC FOUR with 11 votes (2nd Pan / 3rd Steve Jobs / 4th We Are Your Friends / 5th Tomorrowland / 6th Mortdecai) Here we have it, the biggest landslide of the evening out of the way first (Pan in comparison only got one first preference vote!). It was a disaster no doubt so very deserved, even if I went for We Are Your Friends on the basis of the tiny box office it pulled in. Don't be looking for Fantastic Four to dominate the rest of the night like it did when it came to Razzie noms though

BIGGEST BOX OFFICE SURPRISE
  The winner is DADDY'S HOME / KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE with four votes each (plus two second preferences) (3rd Jurassic World / 4th Hotel Transylvania 2 / 5th Straight Outta Compton / 6th Star Wars: The Force Awakens) We have a couple of ties tonight, maybe we should run a poll afterwards just to split them?? Both would be deserving winners imo, had very very good box office performances that surpassed my personal expectations. Jurassic World in 3rd of course did an outstanding job, but it was always expected to be huge no doubt about it. |

The one positive about the F4 movie is that it made people appreciate the (actually well crafted IMO other than Dr Doom) original 00's movies

Daddy's Home was definitely a massive surprise, Will Ferrell comedies have pulled in that much money for years, glad it did so well though because it was really enjoyable. Hoping we do get a John Cena sequel

Let's take a look at the first film contending for Best Picture tonight
Avengers: Age of Ultron  With some very nice words written by Jonjo QUOTE Why does 'Avengers: Age Of Ultron' deserve to be here? Well, it's easily one of the best sequels to a major blockbuster in a long time (shut up, Joe.). It might not be as cohesive or as structured as the first film, but it packs just as much punch (quite literally). It's proof that Joss Whedon is indeed an incredibly talented director. The fact he managed to give equal amount of screen time and make each character feel just as important as the last one is astonishing for a cast of this size and it stays true to the MCU which is important. It's not "perfect" and clearly has some parts cut out (Thor's whole cave scene - which seems to have been kept in to keep the ladies and gays happy) with plenty of action to keep you going and plenty of story to keep you hooked, it's a very deserved nomination, imo. Great film. And FrootQUOTE Marvel have dominated the box office ever since the release of Iron Man all the way back in 2008! That film helped to plant the seeds of what would become the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Phase 1 of which culminated with The Avengers. The Avengers saw the likes of Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye team up, leading to what was once the third highest grossing movie. Anticipation was therefore HUGE for the sequel to this and it truly did not fail to deliver. It was written and directed by Joss Whedon who knows exactly what he's doing. The first film was hugely ambitious by uniting so many superheroes and big name actors and the only way to move forward was to go bigger and better. The film immediately throws us straight into the action as the six Avengers are on a mission to seek out a Hydra outpost, utilising each other's skills and giving us the money shot of them all together within the first five minutes. The first Avengers had to spend a lot of time setting up the meetings and 'gathering' up all the Avengers so Age of Ultron revels in the already established relationships. Throughout the first action seen, we have the 'banter' (for want of a less cringeworthy word) between them all. Then there's also the perfect reprisal of the previous post-credits shawarma scene which involves everyone trying to out-man each other. Its the added humour and interaction between the heroes that helps it to stand out for me. They may have shoe-horned in some of this (looking at the Bruce/Natasha relationship which came out of nowhere) but, on the whole, it does work and benefit the film by allowing the characters to have their different dynamics. It was nice to give some background on the most non-essential superhero (Hawkeye) but perhaps this was more so that we could see more development between everyone.
While the MCU have got the superheroes spot on, they have failed to produce an engaging and memorable villain outside of Loki, who has a rest in this film. Ultron is a step closer to this but he doesn't leave you wanting to see more of him once the film is over. The idea behind his creation is brilliant though as it helps show a more dangerous side to Tony Stark in particular. The idea that he's not a physical being also helps him become more dangerous although the endless supply of robots during the climax gets a bit ridiculous. It is a true blockbuster film though with many spectacular scenes, with the much hyped Hulkbuster scene being one of them. It also helps to introduce some new superheroes, such as Vision and Quiksilver but Scarlet Witch is the most interesting. Her mind tricks help us further explore some of the heroes at the start of the film and her powers make me very excited to see her role in future films. It does lead Thor to a little side-quest that makes him disappear for a good proportion of the film in order to set up his next 'solo' film and I guess that's the problem that the MCU has got into now. It is slowly moving towards a point where each film is setting up/teasing the next film which is also seen here with the Yellow stone, something that will eventually lead to the next Avengers film. On the whole, it is a very good, enjoyable film if it is your thing. It's not going to win over anyone who doesn't superhero films but that doesn't matter when you're on the very top of your game like Marvel currently is. There are amazing effects, scenes and characters that help to make up one of the biggest films of last year and the biggest superhero film of all time... until the next one. |

 BEST NEWCOMER 01. Alicia Vikander (5 votes) 02. Taron Egerton (4 votes) 03. Daisy Ridley (3 votes) 04. Jacob Tremblay (2 votes) 05. John Boyega (1 vote) So Alicia Vikander seems to have captured everybody's hearts this year with her breakout roles in Ex_Machina and The Danish Girl, she is really fantastic in both and managed two nominations at a few of the awards this year. She also seems really lovely in interviews and is rapidly gaining a fanbase and hype, some predicting she may take home an Oscar tomorrow night. We'll see her soon in July's return of Jason Bourne which will hopefully get her name out there more and then back for Tulip Fever and The Light Between Oceans which may see her back at the Oscars next year. Taron Egerton also earned a lot of attention for his role in Kingsman, him being the incredibly likeable lead of that film ensured that he started to build a fanbase. He also had a role in the commercially successful Legend alongside Tom Hardy. He certainly has a lot of charm and we will see him next month in the rather sweet-looking Eddie the Eagle with Hugh Jackman. I was expecting one of the Star Wars leads to win here but they actually come third and fifth here. Daisy Ridley rightfully comes out on top as our brand new female heroine, she is quite badass in Star Wars so I'm excited to see what she does next if she gets a tiny break from Star Wars sometime in the next decade. John Boyega sadly comes last but I think he has a great personality coming across in his interviews so I expect he'll be incredibly popular in a few years. I expect Jacob Tremblay also suffers from the same problem as John and Daisy in that he only really appeared in one film last year, he was excellent in Room and the film would never have worked without him but there's not much to judge him from apart from that role. He's extremely cute in all his awards and chat show appearances though so he's already won a lot of people over. |

Rihanna - Towards The Sun [from Home] (0 votes) There was never really going to be any other winner so Love Me Like You Do wins here for Ellie Goulding, she won't be taking home an Oscar because she's not even nominated but I'm sure she won't be too worried as this track did accumulate over one million chart sales in the UK alone. It's a great example of a solid pop single with an explosive chorus and some lovely ad libs too and it's easy to understand why you've voted it the winner here. In a shock result, Jennifer Lopez actually steals second place here. On my second watch of Home, I realised that the track is actually really nice, it works really well in the film and it has a lovely little chorus too. It's a big shame it never got more attention and was overshadowed by the Rihanna tracks on the soundtrack. In another surprise, Jessie J actually doesn't come last on Buzzjack. Flashlight did actually manage to convince some haters that she wasn't that bad though because she doesn't do any excessive riffing on this or screaming. It's another track that suits the film well and is just a nice little pop track, glad she managed to do quite well here. My personal pick for this would have been Better When I'm Dancin' so it's sad for me to see it come 4th. It's one of the most joyous tracks from last year and the whole song is just so infectious. I'm no fan of The Peanuts Movie at all but at least we got this gem from it. I like Meghan anyway but this is definitely one of her top tracks. A bit embarrassing for Rihanna coming in last with no votes despite being the biggest star nominated by far and the only artist of these to have an Artist Forum on this very site. That kind of speaks for how lacklustre Towards the Sun is though, it's kind of good but a bit boring and nothing special. I'm quite surprised it was even nominated here, especially over Dance in the Dark which is the stronger track in my opinion! |

Let's take a look at our second best picture nominee of the night:
 Best Picture Nominee #2: BIG HERO 6 When it was announced that Disney had bought Marvel Studios, the idea of animation superhero flicks would never be the same and 'Big Hero 6' being the first of their big animated adventures together, would go on to set the bar ridiculously high. It has everything you could possible want and need in a Disney superhero flick. It has a great story, likable characters, a cuddly lead character, charm, warmth and most importantly, heart. And in all honesty, who can do all that to success? DISNEY OF COURSE. I can't recommend this film enough tbh. My mate who hasn't really been too big on animations these last few years cites it as one of his absolute favourite animations. Fully worthy of it's nomination in the big, main category imo and I wouldn't mind if it was to win! - Jonjo |
