Iconic lyrics: "Spinning all these plates is Gonna be a challenge A delicate balance"
So crashing out in LAST place is Mind Maze! I'm actually a bit gutted because this is probably in my top five of the entire album to be honest. I can see why it's not so popular as it does lack an obvious catchy hook and I guess the production is a bit odd but I'm a fan of the distorted vocals personally so I think this placing is a bit harsh !!!
Posted by: MoistSummerFruit 10th July 2017, 05:34 PM
These lyrics though and chorusless songs
Posted by: Jonjo 10th July 2017, 06:24 PM
'Mind Maze' is odd. I like elements of it, but I think ultimately it's just average. This is my 2nd least fave so nice start.
'Into Me You See' to leave next though please!
Posted by: HausofSZA 10th July 2017, 06:28 PM
Mind Maze is definitely one of the worst songs on the album so happy it's out. INTO ME YOU SEE INTIMACY I SEE INTO ME whatever it is dirge out next please ~

16. Into Me You See
Average: 4.412
Lovers - Joseph (8.5), HarryEzra (8) Haters - Haus, all is vanity (0)
Iconic lyrics: "Open sesame"
"Into Me You See"
This is the one I was actually expecting to come dead last so I guess 16th isn't that bad even if that rate average is The song itself isn't that bad (perhaps a bit whiny due to the overkill on the falsetto) but is definitely bogged down by poor lyrics - especially the cringe Into Me You See/Intimacy double meaning awkwardness...
Iconic lyrics: "So I take a deep breath And I save as draft
You don't have to subtweet me My number's always been the same"
Whilst the other singles from this era are quite far away from being revealed, the rumoured 4th single comes right near the bottom of the pile. Once again, it's a decent enough ballad but the lyrics are just beyond terrible. What sort of lyric/title is Save As Draft???
Posted by: Jonjo 10th July 2017, 07:23 PM
Faveeeee I love it so, so much and it gets such a hard time on here </3
Also, just no at you ignoring "I don't f*** with change, but lately I've been flipping coins a lot" lyric!! It's my fave part of the entire song haha.

Oh I meant to do this :'( ah well.
Gutted seeing 'Mind Maze' last, it's one of my favourites! 'Save as Draft' and 'Into Me You see' are probably my two least favourite Katy tracks ever though so I'm pretty glad they're out. 'Roulette' and 'Miss You More' to do well please!

Average: 6.500
Lovers - UV (10), Joseph & Regina (9) Haters - Michael (0), Davidson & Liam (4)
Iconic lyrics: "Saw a balloon floating away I thought did someone let go, or did they lose it?"
A big jump in average here but it seems that Buzzjack just isn't so keen on Katy's ballads from this era. This is quite nice but a bit on the forgettable side of things and would probably be cut if Katy had been a bit more picky with what made the album tracklist.
Posted by: Cremey 10th July 2017, 07:40 PM
Ah sorry, yeah I might've helped that one a bit! That iconic lyric makes me wince every time I hear it though, that's the one bit that lets it down for me. It reminds me of the plastic bag in 'Firework' a bit :') Some of the lyrics on this album...

Iconic lyrics: "The world's your oyster, and I am the pearl Open waters, sink into me slowly"
The 10th track on the album drops out in 13th, with only one score of 10 and a couple of rather low scores from Sam and Michael. It's a pretty sexual track, which serves perfectly as a run-in to Bon Appétit, and it's just about the only thing that stops the latter from sounding out of place on the album

No YouTube video for this one I'm afraid, as Dance With the Devil is one of the two Target exclusive tracks (also available on the CD from Katy's official store I believe?). Unfortunately for Regina, who gave it an 11, it only manages to get as high as 12th. Must admit, I much prefer Act My Age of the two bonus tracks so I'm glad that's the highest of the two!

I want to like Tsunami so much, but something stops it from being WOW.
Dance With The Devil is her best songs in YEARS though ffs BJ
Iconic lyrics: "I'm thirty-something going on thirteen Still a sponge to everything"
Speak of the devil! Act My Age was the second of two bonus tracks for Witness, and obviously the more popular on Buzzjack but only just, as it still misses the top 10. It's actually one of my Witness favourites, I love the uplifting feel it has! Still no YouTube video I'm afraid.

Michael, of course! Preventing tuneless dirge like that from winning
Yeah, btw guys I have checked all the averages today in a panic and I believe they are all correct. The mistakes came from me drawing the vertical oines all pretty terribly meaning when I read up to attach the poster to the score, I clearly got a bit muddled up in some cases (both all is vanity/michael and sean/andrew are next to each other here and those are the ones that have been wrongly listed but they are written correctly on my paper!! ). Luckily, the horizontal lines were expertly provided by my Chemistry exam board on the practice paper I decided to use to do this () and so the numbers reading across the row were not confused and the averages are correct. Yay, panic over

Average: 6.882
Lovers - Andrew (11), Joe (10) Haters - Michael (0), Atonement (5)
Iconic lyrics: "Don't bite the hand that feeds, or you'll You'll never eat, no-oh"
This is a track that proved to be a massive grower for me and would definitely have got a 10 from me if we were to re-run this rate. It has a massive chorus and would actually be my choice of next single if it were up to me. Obviously, you guys disagree as 9th doesn't make it one of the higher charting album tracks but at least it's higher than Save As Draft :')
Iconic lyrics: "You got patina, ain't so green, nah"
This was one of my immediate favourite songs from the album when I first heard it mostly because it stands out so much. One main criticism of Witness is that nothing really stands out much at all and I think this is one that instantly catches your attention. I was drawn to the choir at first and I think that's a really good addition to the song Also, shout out out to this song for introducing me to the word 'patina' which I had never heard of before - don't think I'll ever use it again to be honest but it's nice to know
Posted by: White Mustang 15th August 2017, 10:08 PM
I loooove Power. I wish the production was a bit more poppy but other than that it's a massive chorus.
Posted by: SamJudd 16th August 2017, 04:12 AM
Did I vote on this, can't remember. Well anyway I just bought the album today and found it pretty okay, definitely not as terrible as it's made out to be, there are some decent tracks on here, 'Hey, Hey, Hey', 'Roulette', 'Swish, Swish', 'Power', 'Chained To The Rhythm' & 'Pendulum' are my standout moments on here. But on the whole however it is rather underwhelming and bogged down by some questionable production, terrible lyrics and 15 or 17 including the bonus tracks is way too overlong and could have easily trimmed this down to a much tighter 10 or 11 tracklist. or have 12 as the bonus tracks, I haven't heard them so I can't comment on them at the moment. But compared to her other albums, this is definitely her weakest offering so far and lacks that fire and wow factor 'One Of The Boys', 'Teenage Dream' & 'Prism' had.
Even 'Bon Appetit' has grown on me slightly, while I still think it's one of her worst singles to date, however on the album itself it is a standout moment. But releasing it as the 2nd single was a huge mistake in my opinion. 'Swish, Swish' would have been a better choice as the follow up to 'CTTR', as it's definitely one of her most interesting songs to date and would have stood a better chance performance wise on it's own instead of getting caught up in the crossfire of the polarizing and potential career wrecking 'BA' which should have stayed on the album until the album's release and could have been a interesting surprise upon purchase.
The results have been pretty spot on so far, although I personally would have ranked 'Tsunami' lower than #13 as that's dreadful as well as the ballads which don't stand out at all 'Into Me You See' is pretty weak and why in the hell is 'Save As Daft' even being considered for a single release, talk about forgettable and bland as hell. Have they totally given up and just thrown in the towel or what. I can see that one BOMBING pretty hard, even worse than 'BA' did. I hope they reconsider this dire choice and release something else.
The only other song I can see that has any potential to be a hit is 'Roulette' which is the best track on here in my opinion, and could definitely see this getting picked up for some decent airplay and if given a decent push, then this could be an actual hit.
So yeah this album could have been a lot more enjoyable if some of the weaker tracks got trimmed about 4 or 5 song and made it a typical 10-12 standard tracklist album, something like this below =
01. Witness 02. Hey, Hey, Hey 03. Roulette 04. Swish, Swish [Ft Nicki Minaj] 05. Deja Vu 06. Power 07. Chained To The Rhythm [Feat Skip Marley] 08. Bon Appetit' [Feat Migos] 09. Bigger Than Me 10. Pendulum 11. Dance With The Devil *Bonus* 12. Act My Age *Bonus*
Just an idea, a rough draft you can say, tell me what you think, bare in mind that I've only just listened to this album and this is an early impression.
Posted by: MoistSummerFruit 16th August 2017, 04:22 AM
This album is utter TRASH.
The songs blend into one, the production sounds like it's been taken from Bjsc flops, the lyrics are some of the worst I've ever heard, and the vocals are really, really bad, like a screechy, out of tune violin.
I told you ALL before release that she would flop like Alexandra for trying to bring back disco. No one is here for it. And disco all blends into one on an album, just like this. It's really bad. It's even worse than Artpop.

I don't know the bonus tracks, and I would switch 'Pendulum' for 'Mind Maze', but other than that this is my perfect tracklist.
Posted by: White Mustang 16th August 2017, 07:46 AM
Mind Maze is the worst, I'd keep Miss You More over one of those bonus tracks.
Iconic lyrics: "Got my own cha-ching in my chubby little wallet"
"Karate chopping the clichés and norms all in a dress"
"You think that I am fragile like a Fabergé"
"Keep your penny thoughts, I'm making a mint"
Hey Hey Hey seemed to be one of the more polarising songs on the album when Witness was first released and that is definitely reflected here with plenty of 9s but a few lower scores too so I think it's done pretty well to land in 7th place. It's FULL of cringey lyrics which is why it all seems a bit silly but it has a catchy enough chorus and is serviceable enough even if it is far from her best - just keep it away from being a single and we can enjoy it as an album track, please Katy
Iconic lyrics: "I look at the sand and I'm just one grain"
I'm really quite shocked at Bigger Than Me making it so high here as it still has never really stood out to me. It's nice enough but it sort of just plods along and definitely feels like album filler to me. It's probably one of the few tracks on the album where I could barely tell you how it goes and there are much stronger tracks on the album for me so 6th is pretty good to be honest, maybe this should be single #4 instead of Save As Draft ?!?

Posted by: White Mustang 23rd August 2017, 09:35 AM
Witness seems to be one of the least divisive tracks on the album which has earned it a pretty high placing here due to the rest of the album getting slated by some and therefore bringing their scores down. Witness pretty much just got between 7 and 8 from everyone so very few lovers or haters really. It's one of the catchier tracks on the album and definitely works as an album opener introducing us to the rest of the album (at least it starts fairly well before going down hill ). I really like the whistling hook too, probably one of my favourite individual moments on the entire album

04. Swish Swish (feat. Nicki Minaj)
Average: 8.083
Lovers - 11 (Sean, Davidson, Rob) / 10 (Liam, all is vanity, Jonjo, Harry, Regina) Haters - Michael & SamUltra (-1), Jupiter (3.5)
So the third single from the campaign, Swish Swish, drops out in 4th place suggesting that Buzzjack would have selected another song to get the single treatment before this track if it was up to this. Swish is probably one of the most divisive tracks of her career with many finding it an undeniable pop bop whilst others find it cringey and dated (I'm in this camp although it has been growing on me more recently) with Michael and Ultra even giving it a non-compulsory -1 score! It seems to be climbing up high on streams and sales following on from the video release and VMAs performance so most of us are holding out hope this can be a smash hit for her and put a stop to her flop headlines.
Roulette for single 4 then? It even outdoes Swish here which points to the fact that it could be another hit for Katy should she decide to push it soon. It has popped up in many discussions as the most obvious single choice left from the album so we could potentially be seeing a video and push for this once Swish has died down. Personally, I'm hoping she just drops the Witness era afterwards but with the tour not finishing for a long time yet, it seems like this era will go on for a little longer yet and this would definitely be one of the best chances at another hit!

I've had a massive U-turn for BA - so so good! Swish is my favourite though so gutted it hasn't come out nearer the top.

I've also U-turned on BA since its release. It's weird considering how fiercely I disliked it for so long.
In the end, Chained to the Rhythm proves to be pretty undeniable and destroys all competition beating its nearest competition by quite a lot. Bon Appétit seemed to win over a lot of its early detractors (including me) as the single release went on but ultimately, it's not enough to overcame Chained which seemed to have everyone chuffed with Katy's comeback when it first was released. Unfortunately, the era from then on only seemed to get worse reviews as it went on which was especially disappointing as we were all hoping for a proper #wokepop album from her </3

Chained is still one of the best pop singles of the year for me
It's crazy how full of promise this era was when those disco balls were around the world...

Thanks for doing this Josh 'Tsunami' (am I it's only fan here tbh, someone back me up ;o) Power and Pendulum should've been way higher but otherwise this seems pretty accurate ~
On the whole 'woke' thing imo if she'd done that throughout the whole era and not just 'Chained To The Rhythm' (obviously there are other theories but that's the only part of the era where it was prominent) it would've just alienated the GP even more

Awful album.
Lmao at me and Sam almosy havin the same opinions throughout!!!
It was the right top2, maybe with witness as 3 for the best top3.
Quite shocked at this tbh. The hook is huge and it's one of the songs that immediately got my attention.
'Roulette' should be 4th and then this should be 5th unless 'Roulette' does horrible.

No, IF there is another single it has to be Witness.

We should not have to witness another single.
Like, ok I'm obviously a hater (not until this album though and I still enjoy all her previous albums). But, you'd think it be clear to her and her team to move on. Re release it, do somethin'. Fix it Jesus.

Yeah I'm a bit worried if she decides to release a 4th single because there is a big chance it could underperform which could do her career/chances at radio support etc. a lot of damage. She's managed to bring it back slightly with Swish but I think the best thing would be to move on from the era quickly and release a pop banger soon and all will be forgotten

The best thing she could do after Swish Swish is something like The Cure which sets her up nicely for KP5 and move on from this mess tbh :')
