"Good People" was released two weeks before in the cinema halls of my country and it's based on the homonymous novel by Marcus Sakey. The well-made official trailer seemed very intriguing and was the main reason to see it in the cinema. However, it seems that was not too popular to the public since the second week of viewing, it was limited only to large multiplex. Even though its script has direct contact with the bad situation of Greek households in recent years.
The film is based on the economic problems of a couple who live in fear of losing their home because they owe a very large amount of money to the state. In addition, they are trying to have a child and are quite frustrated with the whole situation in which they are experiencing. However, they discover a bag with £ 200,000 at the home of their dead neighbour and decide to keep a part for them. However, nothing in life is given for free and they are embroiled with a gangster who absolutely must get the money back which are the result of a banditry. Basically, there is a dilemma to the viewer if he would do the same if he was in the position of the two protagonists. The author used this story aptly putting two characters experiencing real problems in their lives. But while in the beginning, it is good and the plot becomes more and more interesting and suspenseful, it ended up to be a parody after all injured people (gangsters & Franco & policeman) resurrected to shot the last shot. It happened at least 4 times. The two main characters (James Franco and Kate Hudson) began as the next door couple and they converted to Mr & Mrs Smith, devising unbelievable situations to riddance from the unscrupulous gangsters. The last twenty minutes reminded me quite a lot of the plot from "Home Alone". However, the two actors had chemistry and were convincing in their roles. The unknown Henrik Ruben Gkenz is the director of the film who was nominated for an Oscar in the category of "Best Short Film, Live Action" for "Bror, min bror" in 2000. However, there is not another major film to his credit and "Good People" is his first directorial work with Hollywood stars. One of the advantages of the movie was the soundtrack which fits incredibly in every scene. In all of the rest of the movie, however, was quite modest..
"Good People" is based on an interesting script idea but lost control at the end. However, its viewed pleasantly and it has some funny scenes which caused us hysterical laughter (especialy in the final scenes). Of course, it wasn't promoted as a comedy film but a drama thriller. If it had a better ending, the result would be at least good, but unfortunately is not far from the standards of a TV movie. Maybe this is the reason why it came out in limited theaters in America. It could be a good choice for home dvd with good company but in no case in the cinema.
