I'd always heard that Together Again was in a huge chart battle vs Sunchyme and lost out and came second.

In the UK, Sunchyme was out of the Top 40 by the time Together Again was released!

Together Again's first week at #4...

Week Ending 13 December 1997
1 - NEW - 01 - Teletubbies - TELETUBBIES SAY EH-OH!
03 - 01 - 02 - Various Artists - PERFECT DAY
08 - 03 - 03 - Aqua - BARBIE GIRL
1 - NEW - 04 - Janet Jackson - TOGETHER AGAIN

drama.gif

and second:

Week Ending 10 January 1998
07 - 03 - 01 - Various Artists - PERFECT DAY
08 - 04 - 02 - All Saints - NEVER EVER
03 - 01 - 03 - Spice Girls - TOO MUCH
05 - 05 - 04 - Janet Jackson - TOGETHER AGAIN

I was always convinced that the melody for "Together Again" was ripped off from a video game. Listen to the music from the 2nd level on Sonic The Hedgehog on the Master System, and tell me there aren't any similarities -

I had a feeling either Together Again or All for You would be top of that list. I'm surprised to see Doesn't Really Matter so far down though.

'Made for Now' seem crazy low considering it probably wouldn't take many more downloads to be higher up on the list.

Janet has always seemed to be considerably less successful in the UK than the US and I've not really been able to work out why. Everything seems to be in her favour to be huge here yet she's only had a handful of big hits and not a great deal of cultural impact.

It’s a shame they have just done a download list rather than a total list with physicals and streams (not that streams would add much more). Sales would look much healthier all round if physicals were on this.

Janet has paid a bit more attention to the UK lately, so hopefully she gets more interest with the next release.

Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Alainis Morissette & Boyz II Men all very successful artists in both the US and UK, although they had big success in the UK too, it was slightly underwhelming compared to the US. But still very successful even in the UK. I am referring to Alanis’ singles btw because of course Jagged Little Pill was massive!
