THE MILLION POUND DROP IS BACK, but the top cash price has now been reduced to £100,000 because the show will be moving to a new daytime slot instead of its previous primetime position!
The show was first broadcast in a live format over a week in 2010 and saw a number of evolutions over the years, which eventually saw it drop its live aspect. The show was put on indefinite hiatus in 2016 to save money but will be coming back to our screens next year! As anyone who saw the original show knows, winning the top prize is near impossible so this new format means they'll probably be giving out less money then say Deal or No Deal.
What are your thoughts? Did you enjoy the show before and are you excited for the new format, position?
I think this is a good move because it is an excellent format but there are risks of giving a lot of money away, which wasn't worth the low ratings it was getting towards the end of its run. This new top cash prize will probably mean most winners will only get like £5,000 on average and winning is not that often anyway! However, the name change that this results in is quite bad, definitely not as snappy as The Million Pound Drop.
Still I'm excited for this to return!
I used to love this until they changed the format... haven't seen it since like 2013! I'll definitely watch this though, I'm sure it'll be better than Fifteen to One
I preferred the original Million Pound Drop when it was a live format.
I suppose the £100k drop could work but when it was live, it was quite thrilling to watch when The Million Pound Drop happened. It was one of my favourite game shows for quite a few years when it originally come on.
I actually forgot all about this! Looking forward to its return
Is Davina back though?
yeah if they're recording 60 episodes then that takes up 2 months so will be on whenever FTO gets a break.
I loved the original format - Channel 4 killed the show with commissioning too many episodes and then dropping the Live aspect. So it will be nice to see it back in some form but I think they should've taken a punt with a return to primetime for The Million Pound Drop as it originally started, not the later tampered version.
It's a real problem Channel 4 has in general. They find a hit but kill it off really quickly from overexposure
It's been announced this will start on 7 May, airing weekdays at 4pm!
