Good evening and welcome to the results of the Paloma Faith Singles Rate! Before we begin the results, let's have a listen to Paloma's most recent single - so fresh that it was released after the rate began - "Lullaby" with Sigala:

It's a decent enough bop but Paloma's voice sounds so heavily edited and without any of the charm that her own music has. It's a step down in quality from her recent singles from 'The Architect' and her previous crossover into dance-pop "Changing". It's also very similar to Sigala's last single, "Came Here for Love", a hit in summer 2017 thanks to 'Love Island'.

20 singles were rated by 29 Buzzjack members but which will come out on top? Here's a reminder of the contenders:

"Stone Cold Sober"
"New York" (with or without Ghostface Killah)
"Do You Want the Truth or Something Beautiful?"
"Upside Down"
"Smoke & Mirrors"
"Picking Up the Pieces"
"30 Minute Love Affair"
"Never Tear Us Apart"
"Just Be"
"Black & Blue"
"Can't Rely on You"
"Only Love Can Hurt Like This"
"Trouble with My Baby"
"Changing" (with Sigma)
"Ready for the Good Life"
"Leave While I'm Not Looking"
"Beauty Remains"
"Crybaby"
"Guilty"
"'Til I'm Done"

Please comment and predict what you think will come out on top! I'll get the first couple of results up later tonight.

Thing is, it really isn't. I'd probably like it a lot more if it was.

20. "Black & Blue" - 6.0000 (Max: 9 - Tawdry Hepburn; 8 - JosephSprayberry, Qween / Min: 2 - George.keh; 3 - Jack)
UK chart peak: DNC

19. "Beauty Remains" - 6.5741 (Max: 10 - SGrey, gavindeejay / Min: 3 - Jüpiter; 5 - George.keh, PAJ88, Tawdry Hepburn, Klumzee)
UK chart peak: DNC

Opening up the top twenty on a score of a perfect 6 is "Black & Blue", the fifth single released from Paloma's second album, 'Fall to Grace'. It's a lovely ballad that fits in with the theme of the album very well, although musically it is very similar to "Just Be", the album's previous single. This definitely doesn't deserve to be the first song out but it fails to muster up enough love to avoid the bottom. It failed to chart in the UK, becoming her first single to miss the official top 200.

"Beauty Remains" joins it in the bottom two, the final single from Paloma's third album, 'A Perfect Contradiction'. It plods a long a little bit at the beginning but the pre-chorus saves it from being her dullest moment. This also failed to chart in the UK, although as it was the sixth release from the album and released after streaming was introduced into the UK charts, it isn't surprising.

I had no idea Black & Blue was released, no idea how it goes now either, the title makes me think of ‘Warrior’.

Sad to see ‘Beauty Remains’ so low, I think it’s actually very underrated.

‘Black and Blue’ is a solid album track but didn’t work that well for me as a single TBH.

18. "Trouble with My Baby" - 6.7931 (Max: 10 - Cameron, HarryEzra, Chapman, UltraReputation / Min: 4 - Jüpiter; 5 - dandy*, George.keh, Simon., Liam, pippa, Theo.)
UK chart peak: DNC

17. "Ready for the Good Life" - 6.9828 (Max: 10 - UltraReputation; 9 - gavindeejay, Cameron, HarryEzra / Min: 3 - Bjork; 4 - PAJ88)
UK chart peak: #68

In 18th place is one of my least favourite singles from Paloma, "Trouble with My Baby". I'm not sure what it is about this song that I dislike because it carries a lot of the quirks that make her music so unique but this just doesn't do it for me. It was released as the third single from her third album, 'A Perfect Contradiction', and was her second to miss the official chart.

At #17 is yet another single to be taken from 'A Perfect Contradiction', this time it's "Ready for the Good Life", which just misses out on achieving an average over 7. As far as I remember, it was recorded for a re-release of the album, following the success of its two top ten singles and the #1 collaboration with Sigma. It failed to continue the streak of success for her but I really like this song. It isn't one I go back to very often but it has a lot more charm than the previous single and a much better stomping chorus to it. It's a shame that it's out so soon as there are some much weaker songs yet to appear.

Black & Blue feels a tiny bit too low really, not deserving of last place even if it's not one of her very best. Not gutted about the other singles dropping out, all felt quite below her usual standard.

Hideous outcomes already! I think A Perfect Contradiction was the album not Fall to Grace for those last two!

‘Trouble With My Baby’ is okay. RFTGL is quirky and underrated, though it’s not as instant as a lot of her other stuff.

I feel like the offbeat nature of Trouble With My Baby is a little offputting.
If the tempo and structure was more conventional I'd like it more.

There is a new track on iTunes today called make your own kind of music. It’s very good. I wonder if this will end up on a reissue of the album?
