QUOTE Welsh producer Kelly Lee Owens has announced a new album, LP.8, her follow-up to 2020’s Inner Song, one of the best albums from that year. Owens recorded it in Oslo with noise musician Lasse Marhaug, inspired by the unrest she felt after Inner Song came out during the pandemic and she wasn’t able to tour behind it. She described it as her “eighth album” to her label, despite the fact that she’s only released two full-lengths so far. “For me, 8 meant completion — an album that will ripple infinitely with me personally,” she said in a statement. LP.8 is out, digitally at least, in just a month’s time. Today, Owens is sharing two songs from it: the urgent and gripping “Sonic 8,” which closes out the record, and the more meditative “Olga.” TRACKLIST: 01 “Release” 02 “Voice” 03 “Anadlu” 04 “S.O (2)” 05 “Olga” 06 “Nana Piano” 07 “Quickening” 08 “One” 09 “Sonic 8” Sonic 8 and Olga were released a few weeks back. Very intrigued by this. Her last album Inner Song was incredible. |

Album was released last week and it's got a score of 76 on Metacritic at the moment (the lowest of her 3 albums).
It's a really intense, moving listen, and definitely sounds like a product of lockdown and dark introspection. The music is very minimal, ambient compared to Inner Song which had a more mainstream friendly, club sound to it. Her vocals really shine on "S.O (2)" and "One". Highlights: "One", "Sonic 8" |

I will get to the rest of the album as I continue to play eternal catchup with new music but I've just checked out 'Olga' and 'Sonic 8' and enjoyed both of them, the latter in particular is definitely more leftfield than I expected from Kelly but it's sounding great *.*

Agreed! It took me a while to wrap my head around the sound of Sonic 8, but what a bewitching track *.*

Have heard the rest of this now, agreeing with your picks as being the best 2 songs on there, really loving 'One' 'Anadlu' is my fave of the album tracks, 'Quickening' and 'Release' are standouts too (the latter is a little anxiety inducing but in a good way x). Think I'm actually a little more into this than her last album overall.

Kelly did a guest mix on 6Music today and she played Kessler's recent Doctor Blind #1 smasher (and Top 20 BJSC hit) “Vrieselaan”. <3 So surreal hearing it on the radio but a great mix overall too.

Kelly Lee Owens returns with LP.8.2 – a compendium to her LP.8 album from 2022. Produced by Kelly herself and Lasse Marhaug (Jenny Hval). this mini album contains 4 tracks and 18 minutes of new Kelly Lee Owens music following the abstract industrial beauty of LP.8. |
