Only seen two of these so whoops, I actually own The Tree of Life on DVD but it looks far too dull to even try out tbh...

I think Woody Allen would be my winner here, is film had that usual charm that makes his films so great so imo he was essential to the success of the film. Payne was good too but I preferred the screenplay he wrote for the film more than the direction which wasn't all that unique really.
