RESULTS WILL BE TONIGHT FINALLY YAY

Posted by: Ultra💚🚦🐱 Apr 18 2017, 05:25 PM

Yassss I'm hyped!! <3

Posted by: ~josh~ Apr 18 2017, 05:46 PM

Kicking off in 15 mins!

Posted by: ~josh~ Apr 18 2017, 06:00 PM

BEST SONG
01. The Great Gatsby - Lana Del Rey - Young & Beautiful (5,3)
02. Frozen - Idina Menzel - Let It Go (3,3)
03. One Chance - Taylor Swift - Sweeter Than Fiction (2,1)
04. Frozen - Kristen Bell, Agatha Lee Monn & Katie Lopez - Do You Want To Build A Snowman (0,1)
05. Frozen - Idina Menzel & Kristen Bell - For The First Time In Forever (Reprise) (0,0)

So we start of the results tonight with a big surprise already! I think a lot of people were perhaps expecting Frozen to sweep in this category but it seems the tracks may have cancelled each other out as it shockingly doesn't win and two of its tracks come bottom in the category ohmy.gif Lana is definitely a deserving winner and was my personal pick as it is one of her best tracks imo but there is no denying that Let It Go became a cultural phenomenon and was a deserving winner in this category at the actual Oscars. I was shocked to even see the reprise of For The First Time In Forever even here so no shock at it coming last but it is way better than the first version in the film imo, it builds really well and I love how Anna & Elsa sing over each other wub.gif

Posted by: Ultra💚🚦🐱 Apr 18 2017, 06:07 PM

Boo. Young & beautiful is one of the best movie songs this decade but still. :')

Posted by: ~josh~ Apr 18 2017, 06:12 PM

BEST SCRIPT
01. Her (3,1)
02. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (3,0)
03. 12 Years A Slave (2,3)
04. Frozen (1,1)
05. You're Next (1,1)
06. The Wolf of Wall Street (0,3)

And the second of the award of the night goes to Her! A good script is key to a film's success and everyone was buzzing about the intricacies and thought-provoking moments in Her's screenplay back in 2013 so it's no surprise to see it win here. I wonder if a beloved script means good things for its chances at winning Best Film here later on? Everything picked up a vote here unlike in the last category but it is the Wolf of Wall Street that comes in last here despite being the bridesmaid in a fair few votes, it does have some good laughs! I was shocked at how well 12 Years a Slave did in this actually but the film has really stuck with me despite not seeing it since the cinema, it's really brutal and the dialogue used really makes you wince.

Yay! One of two Lana songs I really like! It works so well in the movie. I adore the reprise of FTFTIF so I'm very happy to see it got into the voting stages ahead of the uninteresting original, imo. In fact the Frozen songs were spot on for this category!

Posted by: Jonjo Apr 18 2017, 06:13 PM

I think 12 Years and Her were my top 2 from this category, so yessss at those two being voted that way! Both very good films!

Definitely agree with this whole post, the first FTFTIF is so dull and I've always had a hatred for the cringey Love Is An Open Door too, only In Summer would be worthy of a nomination out of the snubs here for me (but I'd still rank it 4th out of the Frozen tracks).

Posted by: Ultra💚🚦🐱 Apr 18 2017, 06:19 PM

Love the Her script but I found frozen/catching fire/you're next all better tbh! This isn't going well for me so far!!

Posted by: ~josh~ Apr 18 2017, 06:21 PM

BEST VOICE PERFORMANCE
01. Her - Scarlett Johansson (4,1)
02. Wreck-It Ralph - John C. Reilly (2,3)
03. Frozen - Idina Menzel (1,3)
04. Frozen - Kristen Bell (1,1)
05. Frozen - Josh Gad (1,0)

Another category that all the Frozen nominees seem to have cancelled themselves out in, sorry Sam but it's really not doing too well tonight so far x_x I was half expecting Idina to win here, especially seeing as her work singing the songs basically MADE the film but she's not even top 2! I found Kristen Bell kinda bland tbh and Anna is probably my least favourite Disney princess of the lot so not too sad about that. Josh Gad was a lot of fun and In Summer is a great musical number that doesn't get enough attention in my opinion sad.gif The winner of this tonight and second win for the film already is ScarJo for Her and it's not hard to see why when you see the film, she manages to make a relationship between a man and glorified Siri seem REAL and a lot of that is down to her. I wonder how she'll do in the supporting actress category to be revealed later on.

BEST ANIMATED FILM
01. Monsters University (3,1)
02. Frozen (2,4)
03. Despicable Me 2 (2,1)
04. Wreck-It Ralph (1,3)
05. Turbo (0,0)

Yet another shock Frozen loss! Despite clearly the most widely liked film in the line-up as showcased by getting the most overall votes here but Monsters University takes the award home on first preferences. It gets a bit of a hard time in comparison to some other Pixar films, mainly for being a lazy sequel but I've always enjoyed it and think it has some great humour in it too. My personal choice would be Wreck-It Ralph though which is just heaps of fun but unfortunately only comes fourth here despite a Best Film nomination here, so excited for the sequel! Lol at Turbo as well, that never stood a chance though laugh.gif

Also sorry for hijacking the subtitle but it needs to be done xxx

Posted by: ~josh~ Apr 18 2017, 06:37 PM

Wreck-It Ralph should've won tbh !!1 but Monsters Uni was my second preference, I loved it loads whereas with Frozen, I still love it but Anna is kinda annoying and it has a couple bad songs tbh imo laugh.gif

Posted by: Jonjo Apr 18 2017, 06:42 PM

WTAF!

Genuinely surprised at THAT win for Animated! :\ It's probably the weakest Pixar film (although it's not "bad"!) since 'Brave' for me (I've not seen 'Cars 2' xxx) and I didn't think it was that well liked on here... the baffling thing is, it won with 1st preference votes, it's not like it tied and got more 2nd preference votes!

'Wreck-It Ralph' definitely should've won and I would've accepted a 'Frozen' win too!

Posted by: ~josh~ Apr 18 2017, 06:43 PM

BEST DIRECTOR
01. Gravity - Alfonso Cuarón (4,1)
02. 12 Years a Slave - Steve McQueen (3,1)
03. Her - Spike Jonze (2,2)
04. The Wolf of Wall Street - Martin Scorsese (1,1)
05. American Hustle - David O. Russell (0,3)

This year was a fantastic year for film as shown by the exciting directors in this category, every one could be deserving of the win in other years but it was never going to be anyone else than Cuarón for his ambitious work on Gravity, one of the greatest special effects showcases ever. 12 Years a Slave continues its decent night with a second placing here which I wasn't expecting but as I said before, it's a story that really sticks with you for just how brutal it is. My personal pick here was for Spike Jonze who managed to create one of the most interesting films in years and the bottom two films are both a lot of fun, O. Russell really knows how to create a great ensemble *-*

BEST FEMALE SUPPORTING PERFORMANCE
01. 12 Years A Slave - Lupita N'Yongo (4,1)
02. American Hustle - Jennifer Lawrence (2,2)
03. The Wolf of Wall Street - Margot Robbie (1,3)
04. The Heat - Sandra Bullock (1,0)
05. Her - Scarlett Johansson (0,2)

Lupita wins this pretty easily with her moments in the film of raw emotion, you feel terrible for her character in every scene you see her in and she is a real scene-stealer too with her crying scenes. Jennifer Lawrence puts up a decent fight though and she's another massive scene-stealer, generally regarded as a huge highlight from American Hustle and she almost won her second Oscar with this role, I can't imagine she was far behind in the voting. Margot Robbie actually picks up a fair few votes but she was largely ignored from the actual awards season which is a shame. I'm actually quite shocked at Johansson coming last in this as everyone talks about how fantastic the role is and her voice work on it but I guess it is difficult to compare and justify having a voice role above physical acting roles.

Posted by: Jonjo Apr 18 2017, 06:55 PM

A deserved win for that category! I would have been happy with any of them 5 winning though. All 5 were directed brilliantly.

Posted by: ~josh~ Apr 18 2017, 07:04 PM

BEST MALE SUPPORTING PERFORMANCE
01. Dallas Buyers Club - Jared Leto (4,2)
02. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire - Woody Harrelson (2,2)
03. Captain Phillips - Barkhad Abdi (2,1)
04. Prisoners - Jake Gyllenhaal (1,1)
04. 12 Years a Slave - Michael Fassbender (1,1)
06. American Hustle - Bradley Cooper (0,1)
07. American Hustle - Jeremy Renner (0,0)

Quite a large number of nominees here and due to the amount of votes that Jared Leto got, I think a lot of these suffered by just not fitting in the top 2 preference votes despite still being great performances. Jared was an expected winner here but I was really shocked at Woody Harrelson coming second, I've never even put him as a cast highlight of the franchise, never mind a highlight of that entire year ohmy.gif The poor American Hustle supporting actors don't do too well here and even Grant couldn't find a place to vote for Jeremy Renner, I think he'd have made a decent Oscar supporting actor nominee this year actually ohmy.gif

I'M SORRY JEZZA cry.gif

Posted by: ~josh~ Apr 18 2017, 07:13 PM

BEST FEMALE LEAD PERFORMANCE
01. Gravity - Sandra Bullock (3,2)
02. American Hustle - Amy Adams (2,2)
03. Philomena - Judi Dench (2,0)
04. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire - Jennifer Lawrence (1,3)
05. About Time - Rachel McAdams (1,1)
05. Now You See Me - Isla Fisher (1,1)

Gravity really did get loads of attention around its release and Sandra Bullock received rave reviews from it and even managed to get nominated for a sci-fi film which Amy Adams has since found out is a pretty difficult feat to achieve. Speaking of Adams, she comes in second here too (like her co-star Jennifer Lawrence achieved in the supporting category) but she seems to be a Buzzjack fave so I'm sure she might have a chance at winning in another year. Rachel McAdams and Isla Fisher seemed like odd inclusions to me here so I'm not shocked to see them last here although I do agree that the latter was loads of fun and it's a shame she was replaced for the sequel sad.gif

Posted by: Regina Apr 18 2017, 07:13 PM

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO.

Posted by: Jonjo Apr 18 2017, 07:17 PM

'The Hunger Games' films are SO overrated on here. Like, ridiculously so. I don't even hate or dislike them, they're just popcorn filler for me, but I honestly don't see any award winning performances in them. So it feels strange to see them slay so much in these awards!

Can't remember who I voted for, I think it was Jake and Michael. but I really can't argue with Jared in this. It was a fantastic performance.

Posted by: Jonjo Apr 18 2017, 07:20 PM

Oops. Missed Supporting Actress, but the correct top 2! With Lupita absolutely wiping the floor with everyone else!

Such a weak year for female lead performances, imo. Rachel McAdams was my favourite of them all, but Sandra was a close second.

Posted by: ~josh~ Apr 18 2017, 07:20 PM

BEST MALE LEAD PERFORMANCE
01. The Wolf of Wall Street - Leonardo Di Caprio (3,1)
02. Her - Joaquin Phoenix (3,0)
03. 12 Years a Slave - Chiwetel Ejiofor (1,3)
04. Dallas Buyers Club - Matthew McConaughey (1,1)
05. Prisoners - Hugh Jackman (1,0)
06. About Time - Domnhall Gleeson (0,2)
07. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire - Josh Hutcherson (0,1)

Poor Josh Hutcherson can't pull off a Woody Harrelson in this category and ends up coming dead last instead, he's always been overshadowed by Jennifer Lawrence so I was not expecting him to even be nominated here to be honest! It seems Buzzjack would have given Leo his Oscar the year before he got his real one though, I think The Wolf of Wall Street will really go down as one of his most iconic films and it seems to have a bit of something for everybody in it. Joaquin Phoenix was snubbed at the real Oscars but at least Buzzjack can appreciate a terrific performance when they see one smoke.gif

I thought it was a great year for females but Buzzjack just picked the wrong nominees for me!! It's http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=200121 year here and Meryl and Cate definitely should've been here tbh ohmy.gif I bet Emma Thompson was fab too!

Posted by: Ultra💚🚦🐱 Apr 18 2017, 07:30 PM

Yasss Alfonso, Leonardo and Lupita! I think that makes Leo the first ever double winner at the Buzzjack Oscars! ohmy.gif

Shocked at Sandra winning considering she wasn't even top 4 in nominations but it is a well deserved win anyway! <3

BEST FILM
01. Gravity (3,1)
02. Her (3,0)
03. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2,1)
04. Frozen (1,0)
04. Wreck-It Ralph (1,0)
06. We're the Millers (0,3)
07. American Hustle (0,2)
08. Philomena (0,1)
08. Thor: The Dark World (0,1)

It seems that the technical achievements in Gravity and the sheer awe you get when watching some scenes from the film were enough to secure the win here for it as it ends up winning its third award of the night in the final category. Her puts up another good fight but just falls short on second preferences, it's a shame it wasn't really in contention at the real Oscars despite a few nominations across the board (at least it won the Original Screenplay award which it REALLY deserved). I remember Philomena and Thor not picking up many votes last time either so they haven't gained any more lovers in recent years, I wonder if Ragnarok could be a nominee in next year's movie awards?!?

Gravity is fab even though I would've preferred a catching fire or frozen win!

Thanks Josh for this, despite the mostly horrific results kink.gif

2011/2012 nominations will be going up shortly so get ready for those!!

Posted by: Jonjo Apr 18 2017, 07:32 PM

Ehhh. Chiwetel and Hugh were def my favourites from that year! Leo's performance was good, but I think he's had so much better. Hugh (along with 'Prisoners' in general) was the biggest and most heartbreaking snubs of that year for me. Absolutely flawless performances!

Hmmm... I've not seen Blue Jasmine so I forgot about that (I kinda want to though!), I haven't seen August: Osage Country either, but I find Meryl hit and miss, personally. So I was never interested in it really.

Blue Jasmine is fab and one of my favourite Woody Allen films (especially in recent years!), two fantastic female performances too. Even if you don't watch August for Meryl, Julia Roberts is just as great. I think you'd really like it actually, it's sooo melodramatic and campy, it's hilarious. I said in the supporting actress thread that 'EAT THE FISH, BITCH' is such a great line laugh.gif
