BONJOUR MY FELLOW INDIE FOLK So we're going up against the Pop/R&B/Dance/Eurovision forums in the very first edition of the 'Genre Forum Song Contest', our aim being to show off the best music the Indie/Alt/Rock Forum has to offer! Make to sure to check out Lindsey's Base Camp Thread which will give you all the details needed to make the contest a success Here's a list of things to keep in mind • You may post up to five nominations in this thread. The songs with the most nominations will go towards our national final where four songs will be chosen to compete against the other forums. • The theme for this contest is Signature Sounds, so think about what will really represent the artists in mind and the genres of indie/alternative/rock music. • You may not nominate any song that has been a UK Top 40 hit or has finished top 10 in Eurovision or by an artist with their own forum. Any songs nominated can still be vetoed by the moderators. • Also try to avoid songs that have previously been hits in the BuzzJack Song Contest. A list of all previous entries can be found here. • You have until 23:59 07/11/16 to nominate. Hopefully we can end up with a nice mix of sub-genres (e.g. Indie/Alt Pop/Rock/Psychedelic/Metal/Folk, or generally anything that fits under the 'Alternative' umbrella), and a strong batch of songs! -x- Nominations So Far Against The Current - Runaway Against The Current - Running With The Wild Things (x2) All American Rejects - Move Along (x2) Alter Bridge - Blackbird Animal Collective - FloriDada (x2) ANOHNI - Drone Bomb Me Apocalyptica - Battery Arcade Fire - Afterlife Arcade Fire - Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) Autre Ne Veut - Play By Play Banks - This Is What It Feels Like Bastille - Bad Blood The Black Keys - Lonely Boy Blossoms - Charlemagne Cabbage - Kevin Chris Cohen - In A Fable CHVRCHES - Gun CHVRCHES - Leave A Trace CHVRCHES - Science/Visions Crystal Castles - Celestica David Bowie - Blackstar David Bowie - Suffragette City Delphic - Counterpoint Empire Of The Sun - Walking On A Dream Everything Everything - My Kz, Ur Bf Fleet Foxes - Mykonos Foals - Inhaler Foster The People - Helena Beat Fuck Buttons - Surf Solar George Ezra - Cassy O' George Ezra - Listen To The Man Green Day - Oh Love Grimes - Flesh Without Blood (x2) Grimes & Blood Diamonds - Go Guano Apes - Open Your Eyes Halsey - Colors (x2) Halsey - New Americana Hozier - Jackie & Wilson iamamiwhoami - goods Jake Bugg - Me & You Jamie T - Spider's Web Joy Division - Transmission Kasabian - Take Aim Kate Nash - 3AM King Creosote - Wake Up To This Lana Del Rey - Brooklyn Baby Lana Del Rey - National Anthem (x2) M83 - Steve McQueen Marina And The Diamonds - Blue Marina And The Diamonds - Fear & Loathing Marina And The Diamonds - I'm A Ruin Marina And The Diamonds - Teen Idle Melanie Martinez - Soap Muse - Undisclosed Desires (x2) NAO - Bad Blood Nickelback - When We Stand Together Nightwish - Nemo Oasis - Champagne Supernova (x2) Panda Bear - Boys Latin Panic! Hmm, there's so many I want to bring in.
I won't finalise the my noms yet, I want to be strategic here and indie will be the forum I'll be rooting for victory most I think... Arcade Fire I want but idk if Afterlife is the right song to do it with. I do think it's a brilliant song and I could go with it but there's so many others they have too. I suppose it's pretty signature for them. Grimes would be good, I think Flesh Without Blood is a good choice on that front. Possibly. Considering iamamwhoami too, with goods or play. One of those could be my indie-alt-pop nom. Against The Current is a very good idea for a rock band that will get some traction from the pop fans, although a Paramore song would also be good. And then there's all the bands like Muse or Kasabian that we could source something from. I'll probably have two rock nominations in the end. probably one indie-rock and one pop-punk. I'm sorta keen for only one or two of Indie's final list to be stuff like Lana/Marina/CHVRCHES that is arguably pop-leaning (and yes, Against The Current falls under that as well). It'd probably be a good path to success, and Gun especially is another good shout, but I think this forum has the widest selection of all of the forums and I think submitting a list that would be very narrow is doing us a disservice, and not being particularly indie. I'll probably pick something from this however as CHVRCHES are too good to pass up. I'll definitely have to think of a metal nomination because that's a very good way to diversify. I've already nominated a Nightwish song in Eurovision so I might hold off there, Addy's noms are rather tempting in that regard, but I'm thinking leaning towards Within Temptation with something like Angels or What Have You Done. Or And We Run even. Actually I like the idea of And We Run. Which is because it has an Xzibit verse while still being very WT. And while I'm on the idea of rap-rock, there's the likes of Linkin Park I could delve into. Although I can't see that being as popular an idea as Within Temptation. (will actually nom soon, thought I might put out some thoughts first) |

I think Sprawl II would be quite a good one for Arcade Fire, as it's something of a fan favourite and has a similar sound to the kind of female fronted electro indie songs that do well on the board as a whole.
If I think of any more, I'll add them in! |

I'm already contemplating changing my nominations
Chvrches is a very good shout, as is Halsey and Marina, thinking about Melanie Martinez too but then my nominations will be pretty similar. I think we defo need some proper pop-punk in the mix too like Iz said, there's so many though I'll need to have a think, maybe something from The All American Rejects, Good Charlotte, Blink 182 I might change my PVRIS nomination to Mirrors too as it was between that, You and I and My House idk God, who came up with these rules??? Throwing in three nominations just now, will think of two others soon:
David Bowie - Blackstar - if you're looking for a standout moment, this song is it!! Animal Collective - FloriDada - if we get some psychedelic in our final 4 (and i hope we do ), something as poppy and fun as this wouldn't be a bad option i think Sufjan Stevens - Fourth Of July - purely a pipe dream but i just wanted to get in some folk/singer-songwriter nominations! very understated but stunningly emotional, i urge anyone to at least check it out |

The rules don't seem to specify that it has to be up to date tracks, does it? In that case, these are all eligible.
My Bloody Valentine - Soon Pixies - Here Comes Your Man Pulp - Lipgloss Joy Division - Transmission and one from this year King Creosote - Wake Up to This |
