I have seen all of these and it was certainly a strong year *-*

My ranking:
1 Penélope Cruz "Vicky Cristina Barcelona"
2 Marisa Tomei "The Wrestler"
3 Viola Davis "Doubt"
4 Taraji P. Henson "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"
5 Amy Adams "Doubt"

Penélope Cruz - Such a deserving winner! I guess I am very happy that Winslet didn't win here because otherwise Cruz would most definitely be Oscar-less which would be a huge shame. I love the entire film but it definitely gets a lot more interesting when Cruz bursts onto the screen and I couldn't imagine any other actress in that role, she oozes sex appeal but can scream in Spanish very well too *-*
Marisa Tomei - Another performance that is incredibly sexy in places but she also injected a lot of vulnerability into the role in other scenes too. You can't take your eyes off Tomei when she's on screen so she was a very deserving nominee here, it's a shame she hasn't been in the awards mix since sad.gif
Viola Davis - Not many actresses could completely steal the show in the space of two scenes, especially when acting up against Meryl Streep but it is largely down to Davis why her main scene is one of the best in the film. The queen of snot crying!! It's just a shame we didn't get to see more of her otherwise surely she would've been competitive for the win?!
Taraji P. Henson - Not exactly one of the hardest roles ever to play but Henson brings a lot of warmth to her character and does add to the overall success of the film so I'm glad she did make it in even if it was a bit of a coat-tail nomination off the back of the success of the film. She was probably a lot more deserving of awards recognition for her roles in Hidden Figures and Hustle & Flow to be honest.
Amy Adams - She definitely does a good job here in making her character feel real but I guess the performance suffers a bit from being a little on the dull and forgettable side. When you think of 'Doubt', Adams is probably the last cast member that pops into your head as she is overshadowed by the most of the cast to be honest sad.gif

In terms of snubs, I guess it would have been if Queen Winslet got two nominations this year with The Reader going supporting and her slotting in for Revolutionary Road in the lead category where she was also very deserving. I guess I'd have to take out Amy Adams which is a shame as I adore the film and she is definitely good in it.

AMY WAS AMAZING IN DOUBT. THE SUBTLENESS AND TIMIDNESS OF HER CHARACTER CONTRASTS BEAUTIFULLY WITH MERYL AND PHILLIP. THE WAY SHE GOED FROM ADMIRING MERYL'S CHARACTER TO SLOWLY TURNING INTO HER AND SEEING HER FALL APART, THUS SHATTERING HER OWN FAITH WAS AMAZING.

Viola is becoming vastly overrated and this is a prime example of that, TWO SCENES, and that deserved an Oscar nom? NO. She was good but not that good.
