New chart topper this week gives Jax Jones, Demi Lovato and Stefflon Don respectively their first #1 track for me. Instruction rises 5 places to #1 in its third charting week. 14 new entries further down the chart this week brings me about back to normal on those after last week’s comparative drought.

Chart moves-wise on last week, this week’s chart sees Gaga’s Joanne and Maraaya’s new tune hitting the top 5, while London Grammar’s Wild Eyed, The XX’s new tune Seasons Run and Sage the Gemini’s Reverse all re-peak within the top ten. Practically the whole top 20 reach new peaks this week; few new entries have made it that far up on their debut week.

The new entries this week does have are nearer the bottom of the chart; a great bunch of new tracks from the likes of Inna, Jhene Aiko, Royal Blood, Blonde, Olly Murs and the oh-so fetch Louisa Johnson, Phoenix, Qulinez, Martin Solveig, Pusher, Draper, Guetta, Young Summer and Deaf Havana. Phew! That was a long list. Those will be getting individual video links and a bit of commentary later on in the week, so check back and that’ll save you having to search them out individually, I’ll update the thread title accordingly when those are done.
For now, the top 40 for this second week of July:

01 Jax Jones ft. Demi Lovato + Stefflon Don - Instruction [33-6-1]
02 DJ Khaled ft. Rihanna + Bryson Tiller - Wild Thoughts [14-5-2]

Ooh Elsa & Emilie, they were a BJSC entry of mine a while ago wub.gif
Fab #1, really glad it's looking like it'll be a UK top 20 in a matter of weeks <3
Liking that Royal Blood entry, Lights Out is one of the best songs they've ever done imo heart.gif

Thanks mdh, I was kicking myself for not sending them instead of Empire of the Sun lmao! Hopefully there's another one this year?!
Yeah that's the first Royal Blood song I've actually liked. Rock is on the up this year biggrin.gif
Yeah, Instruction is great, hoping Demi stays on that kind of 'I'm a bad bitch' direction, it suits her.

Thanks for commenting biggrin.gif

The top 2 were very close this week, but Instruction pipped Wild Thoughts to the post despite taking a little longer for me to really catch on to it. Wild Thoughts (and its nakey-nakey-naked) is just a very immediate tune. This week's also the first Lana Del Rey-free chart for about the last eight weeks, and with her album coming out next week, probably the last Lana-free chart for a few months. This week's not completely free of acts I'm a superfan of though; Jhene Aiko doubles up this week with a fourth track, Hello Ego, joining her third charter this year. Along with these two solo tracks, Aiko's landed a #1 and a top 5 thanks to collaborations with the Chainsmokers and Cashmere Cat. Not too shabby!

As for the new entries; here's links to the first half of those this week:

New entry for Martin Solveig and AlmA gives him his second and she her third on my personals, a rare case of a more pop act catching on with me before than in the official chart. This is an okay song but both have done better I think.

Delayed eventual new entry for Draper and BB Diamond after hovering in and out of the top 100 since about April. It's both artists' second charter and first collaboration, Diamond last appearing solo and Draper alongside Prides on the euphoric Break Over You last year.

New Blonde and Astrid S is just about exactly what you'd expect from the two artists. I don't really have that much to say about it, dance song with newcomer Scandi-pop female vocalist is pretty much what it says on the tin.

This is glorious. I'm a serious Inna fan and she never disappoints. As usual with Inna this sounds bang on trend for the current EDM landscape and the kind of song that would go down a storm at clubs and parties, or for driving out to the beach in the sun. Erik (Erick? it's spelt two ways on the video and single cover lmao) is a newcomer to me and the second Eric Inna's collaborated with, following Eric Turner's turn on Bop Bop back in 2015.

New entry for Olly Murs and Louisa Johnson. Despite my lukewarm feelings about Louisa, this is a pretty sweet pop song, well put-together. It also just becomes Olly's highest entry for me, just outpeaking last year's Private by 2 places. I'm not that into pure pop but a well-crafted radio song does sometimes catch my attention.

Nice new entry for Young Summer, an act I've enjoyed a few songs from in the past. Her You Would Have Loved It Here EP is well worth a listen and has already landed two top 10s for me in 2016, piano ballad Paused Parade and classic indiegirl midtempo Heart In Slo Mo.

Possibly even surpassing On Hold as my favourite XX single from this era. Seasons Run lifts from the band's recent re-release/deluxe version of their last album I See You, adding on to an already very strong album and becoming their third top 10 and 4th top 40 for me, following On Hold, Dangerous, and Lips. I'm getting minor Massive Attack and Moby vibes from this one, even a bit of Tame Impala. Would love to see it as a single eventually.

Part 2 to come!

Great number 1 wub.gif
All Stars is amazing, shame to see it so low here sad.gif
Young Hearts is such a tune! Nice to see someone else likes it, I could see myself charting it in a few weeks.

Great chart!!

More video links for the week:

This is a bit of a weak squib. Doesn't feel like a top 10 hit and probably won't go much higher for me. Both have done much better. Also it's pretty recent to release another song with this title, it's not that long since the Jack U/AlunaGeorge collab.

Rock! Royal Blood's debut charter for me.

EDM part II!

EDM part III

Indie!

And finally a little bit more of Jhene to close off the week. Similar single cover to her last song suggests there might be a new album era coming, which would be welcome - it's 3 years or so since her last now.

Hey Jupiter

Not a big fan of your #1 unfortunately, no doubt it'll be a big hit this Summer tho!

Liking the Sage track, good vibe to it biggrin.gif

New Inna track is pretty good too, sounds like some of her biggest hits...

Good to see 2U sneak in as well, pretty good commercial dance song that,

Loads of new entries for me to check, great list!
