Another pointless OCC article as it doesn't include streaming sales. Why bother as these songs will have moved minimal downloads since the last article with top selling Xmas #1s.

Sadly the OCC are hideously inconsistent with these articles as some of them include SES and others don't, and most of the time we're lucky to even get more than five sales figures (and they even sometimes give sales figures for different songs both with and without SES in the same article).

They bring out this list every year and it barely changes. I don't even bother reading it anymore, it's the same article with slightly altered sales (that barely move anyway these days).

I just don't understand why everything isn't done with streaming sales included now. I mean by all means give us the breakdown of pure sales to streaming sales but just be consistent across all articles.

Mary's Boy Child has sold a huge amount across two versions!!

Wish they would just do the best ever festive hits countdown - they sometimes show an accurate run down on MTV over Xmas with actual sales which is decent(although think they use OCC date lol).

Sales must have been huge for the Beatles songs in the mid 60s!

Why are they always so stingy with their figures? Do they not have them or do they just enjoy trolling chart followers?

There's actually more there than we normally get (every 3/4 tracks) so it gives you a decent idea but yeh I think they just don't then for sure!

They definitely have them but they've always been very secretive about them, they don't want to give away too much sales info to the GP.

Would be more interested in the sales figures for the biggest selling Xmas songs and not just Xmas #1's...

For comparison, here's MTV's version.

VH1 and MTV December 2018
Official Top 50 Christmas hits (based on OCC sales figures, rounded to nearest 10,000). Sales only, no streams, not updated from last year. Not all are Christmas themed, probably only those records released in December. Some big hits left out – for example 3 Beatles December hits, Tom Jones, Brenda Lee, Band Aid 30, Harry Belafonte (probably due to lack of videos).

Top 50 Christmas hits
1 DO THEY KNOW IT'S CHRISTMAS? - BAND AID 3.80m
2 BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY - QUEEN 2.54m
3 MULL OF KINTYRE/GIRLS' SCHOOL - WINGS 2.08m
4 MARY'S BOY CHILD/OH MY LORD - BONEY M 1.89m
5 LAST CHRISTMAS/EVERYTHING SHE WANTS - WHAM! 1.83m

7 DON'T YOU WANT ME? - HUMAN LEAGUE 1.64m
8 HALLELUJAH - ALEXANDRA BURKE 1.28m
9 MERRY XMAS EVERYBODY - SLADE 1.26m
10 FAIRYTALE OF NEW YORK - THE POGUES FT KIRSTY MACCOLL 1.26m
11 EARTH SONG - MICHAEL JACKSON 1.21m
12 DO THEY KNOW IT'S CHRISTMAS? - BAND AID 20 1.18m

It has - I suppose they did not want to play 3 versions of the same song. Or OCC confused the different versions.
