Another pointless OCC article as it doesn't include streaming sales. Why bother as these songs will have moved minimal downloads since the last article with top selling Xmas #1s.

Sadly the OCC are hideously inconsistent with these articles as some of them include SES and others don't, and most of the time we're lucky to even get more than five sales figures (and they even sometimes give sales figures for different songs both with and without SES in the same article).

They bring out this list every year and it barely changes. I don't even bother reading it anymore, it's the same article with slightly altered sales (that barely move anyway these days).

I just don't understand why everything isn't done with streaming sales included now. I mean by all means give us the breakdown of pure sales to streaming sales but just be consistent across all articles. |

Mary's Boy Child has sold a huge amount across two versions!!
Wish they would just do the best ever festive hits countdown - they sometimes show an accurate run down on MTV over Xmas with actual sales which is decent(although think they use OCC date lol). Sales must have been huge for the Beatles songs in the mid 60s! |

Why are they always so stingy with their figures? Do they not have them or do they just enjoy trolling chart followers?

There's actually more there than we normally get (every 3/4 tracks) so it gives you a decent idea but yeh I think they just don't then for sure!

Probably so they can sell off detailed sales figures to the industry.

Do they make money from that?
What's the updated figures for the two most famous Christmas no2s, Mariah and The Pogues? |

Would be more interested in the sales figures for the biggest selling Xmas songs and not just Xmas #1's...

For comparison, here's MTV's version.
VH1 and MTV December 2018 Official Top 50 Christmas hits (based on OCC sales figures, rounded to nearest 10,000). Sales only, no streams, not updated from last year. Not all are Christmas themed, probably only those records released in December. Some big hits left out – for example 3 Beatles December hits, Tom Jones, Brenda Lee, Band Aid 30, Harry Belafonte (probably due to lack of videos). Top 50 Christmas hits 1 DO THEY KNOW IT'S CHRISTMAS? - BAND AID 3.80m 2 BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY - QUEEN 2.54m 3 MULL OF KINTYRE/GIRLS' SCHOOL - WINGS 2.08m 4 MARY'S BOY CHILD/OH MY LORD - BONEY M 1.89m 5 LAST CHRISTMAS/EVERYTHING SHE WANTS - WHAM! 1.83m 6 I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU - WHITNEY HOUSTON 1.64m 7 DON'T YOU WANT ME? - HUMAN LEAGUE 1.64m 8 HALLELUJAH - ALEXANDRA BURKE 1.28m 9 MERRY XMAS EVERYBODY - SLADE 1.26m 10 FAIRYTALE OF NEW YORK - THE POGUES FT KIRSTY MACCOLL 1.26m 11 EARTH SONG - MICHAEL JACKSON 1.21m 12 DO THEY KNOW IT'S CHRISTMAS? - BAND AID 20 1.18m 13 ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS YOU - MARIAH CAREY 1.15m 14 2 BECOME 1 - SPICE GIRLS 1.14m 15 THAT'S MY GOAL - SHAYNE WARD 1.11m 16 WHITE CHRISTMAS - BING CROSBY 1.05M 17 CAN WE FIX IT? - BOB THE BUILDER 1.03M 18 WHEN WE COLLIDE - MATT CARDLE 1.02M 19 HAPPY XMAS - JOHN & YOKO 0.94M 20 A CHILD IS BORN - JOHNNY MATHIS 0.92M 21 A MOMENT LIKE THIS - LEONA LEWIS 0.92M 22 MILLENIUM PRAYER - CLIFF RICHARD 0.92M 23 MISTLETOE AND WINE - CLIFF RICHARD 0.90M 24 GOODBYE - SPICE GIRLS 0.90M 25 STAY ANOTHER DAY - EAST 17 0.86M 26 MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE - SHAKIN’ STEVENS 0.86M 27 LONELY THIS CHRISTMAS - MUD 0.85M 28 MAD WORLD - MICHAEL ANDREWS 0.80M 29 I WISH IT COULD BE CHRISTMAS EVERY DAY - WIZZARD 0.80M 30 KILLING IN THE NAME - RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE 0.80M 31 THE POWER OF LOVE - FRANKIE GOES TO HOLLYWOOD 0.74M 32 WHEREVER YOU ARE - MILITARY WIVES 0.72M 33 TOO MUCH - SPICE GIRLS 0.68M 34 SOUND OF THE UNDERGROUND - GIRLS ALOUD 0.67M 35 I HAVE A DREAM - WESTLIFE 0.65M 36 I BELIEVE IN FATHER CHRISTMAS - GREG LAKE 0.51M 37 WHEN YOU BELIEVE - LEON JACKSON 0.51M 38 DO THEY KNOW IT'S CHRISTMAS? - BAND AID II 0.48M 39 STOP THE CAVALRY - JONA LEWIE 0.47M 40 WOMBLING MERRY CHRISTMAS - THE WOMBLES 0.47M 41 CHRISTMAS TIME (DON’T LET THE BELLS END) - THE DARKNESS 0.46M 42 HE AIN’T HEAVY - THE JUSTICE COLLECTIVE 0.4M 43 SOMETHIN’ STUPID - ROBBIE WILLIAMS AND NICOLE KIDMAN 0.39M 44 PIPES OF PEACE - PAUL MCCARTNEY 0.38M 45 ROCKIN' AROUND THE CHRISTMAS TREE - KIM WILDE & MEL SMITH 0.33M 46 WONDERFUL CHRISTMASTIME - PAUL MCCARTNEY 0.31M 47 SAVIOUR'S DAY - CLIFF RICHARD 0.31M 48 DRIVING HOME FOR CHRISTMAS - CHRIS REA 0.26M 49 PEACE ON EARTH / LITTLE DRUMMER BOY - BING CROSBY & DAVID BOWIE 0.24M 50 IN DULCE JUBILO - MIKE OLDFIELD 0.22M This post has been edited by ben08: 5th December 2018, 04:01 PM |

Thanks Be. That's what I was talking about. Does Band aid 30 not have a video?

It has - I suppose they did not want to play 3 versions of the same song. Or OCC confused the different versions.
