Surprised there wasn't a topic for this but finally actors / actresses are being hired with Neil Patrick Harris being lined to play Count Olaf! I need this in my life, I can't begin to describe how much I adored these books, I loved the movie but was rather disappointed it was just on the three books rather than being other films.

I'm excitedish to portray Count Olaf - its spending all day with those three horrible child actors that will be a challenge. #sneer #shudder

Omg yassss, had no clue about this ohmy.gif

I'd probably go as far as saying the Lemony Snicket Series Of Unfortunate Books are my 2nd/3rd favourite book series of all time (after The Hunger Games and maybe Diary Of A Wimpy Kid)! Love the characters and plots and hope they don't mess this up like the film (which I hated sad.gif )

What are everyone's favourite books?
Mine are probably Ersatz Elevator, Austere Academy, Carnivorous Carnival, Slippery Slope, Penultimate Peril and The Beginning. The only 3 I don't like are Hostile Hospital, Grim Grotto (that was the 11th one wasn't it?) & The End

I loved Ersatz Eleavator and Austere Academy, I felt incredibly unsatisfied with The End as I was never provided with answers regarding their parents and if the three twins were still alive?

Loved the books, hated the movie (except Jim Carey as Olaf and the bit where they blow up Aunt Josephine/Meryl Streep's house) so have high hopes that this will be good.

Academy, Elevator and Carnival were the best for me. The End was just a hot mess, I don't think Daniel Handler had a clear vision of how it would end when he started writing the likes of JK Rowling did. Also, IIRC the Quagmires and Hector die off screen?

Yeah The End was really confusing, basically had no clue what was going on the entire time and then when it finally ended, it was just a confusing mess. Shame sad.gif

If I had to a top 3, I'd probably go for the same 3 Lex has, all fantastic books and so intriguing to read on!

This is the most infuriating thing in existence. Literally cannot WAIT for this to come out, they're my favourite childhood books (behind Harry Potter obv) and have read them all several times and adore them. BUT I've had the same feeling since it was first announed... back in November 2014. smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif

The wait is so agonising but I'm glad that there is FINALLY some sort of movement on the project with the casting of NPH and hopefully they start filming asap. I just want to see all the books in dramatic form cry.gif

I'm hoping we'll get more answers if they manage to make all the books in the end. I'm not sure how they're planning on doing it, one book an episode or multiple series? I just hope they do them ALL this time otherwise the frustration will be real once again.

Sorry I'm very passionate about this.

(also, The Austre Acadamy & The Ersatz Elevator >>>>)

That teaser trailer is fanmade by the way. Or at least Netflix denied that it was made by them.

I'm pretty sure they'll get this spot on and I can't bloody wait.

I loved this series as a kid and I own all the books, but I haven't read them in nearly ten years so I'll probably need a refresher. But I'm probably gonna check out the show regardless!

edit: saying i haven't seen/read something in nearly ten years is getting weirder and weirder as time passes

Oh no, I'd say Hostile Hospital was one of my faves along with Miserable Mill, Ersatz Elevator and Penultimate Peril. Agreed that Grim Grotto wasn't great though

I enjoyed the movie (despite the ways they messed with it) and was just gutted we never got anything else so my hopes for this are high ! Loved the video game that was released at the same time as the movie too.

Austere Academy had probably the best side characters of the entire series. Carmelita Spats was like the ORIGINAL version of Madison Montgomery mixed with Princess from The Powerpuff Girls. She was such a bitch and I LOVED it.

Cannot wait for this! The books defined my early teen years, and I loved the movie as well.

The books were also a big part of my growing up, so I'm very excited for this. Might spur me on to re-read them too <3

My family always used to play the Tim Curry narrated audiobooks in the car when we had long journeys to go on so I've got a lot of sentimental value attached to those (and they're bound to be on YouTube somewhere if people want a refresher before this drops).

Sad to see so much hate for The End sad.gif Not because it's a huge favourite of mine but it's depressing to know so many people who loved a series hated the last part of it. Personally I quite liked it, obviously more answers would have been nice but I've always thought it was pretty reasonable for the children to not get answers to *everything*. Obviously this was not a series of books where realism was at all required but even now I like the concept of the Baudelaires not figuring out everything and having to make peace with the fact that their past will most likely always have mysteries left unsolved.

On top of that, I liked the actual plot of the 13th book, actually more than the 12th I believe. I feel like I should have more fondness for that one than I do.

In any case, looking forward to this but curious to the format! Hope it's a properly drawn out series - one episode per book would not do it justice at all.
