And not long after Geri quietly quit ... again!! After using them for fame for her ... cooking and other forms of trash.

To be fair, they ALL used that return for their own solo fame/profit/profile....

Emma was releasing new music and touring solo around then too, and it was an obvious marketing plot (which kind of failed lol)

Mel C also used that to enhance her profile and to use that money to cover her next era's expenses...

Mel B used that also to book more high profile shows and re-launch as a personality in the UK...

Yes, the three of them would have been very happy to continue to tour and there were even talks about making new music. It SUCKS that Geri was the one who put a stop to all of that so she could focus on her YouTube series and her book.

It really does suck, but lets not pretend they all dropped their solo projects to focus on the group only either. I just think that the other three were happy to have a bit of both whereas Gerita wasnt, sadly...

It's just ironic that the woman responsible for getting the SG to where they wwre is alao the one who broke them ... twice. Was the SG always just a launchpad dor her ego? I'm starting to think so. She never cared about cultivaring the biggest uk band since the Beatles, so that's why she's always been so quick to throw them in the traah, where her solo non music stuff belong.

While I'd love it if they'd get back out there and tour/make music together...I think there's a reality that it wasn't likely all five of them were going to remain in pop star mode into their late 40s/early 50s. People change. The fact three of them could still carry a big show is actually somewhat good odds.

To be fair to Geri, she was already saying in the Passion era that she didn't see herself as a lifelong performer like Cher. And at this point, Geri's not too far in age from what Cher was when Believe exploded. I don't think we're giving enough acknowledgement to the years where Geri and Victoria were regularly being named "Most Hated Woman in the UK" or being added to worst singers in history lists. There are artists out there like Madonna who had that ability to just take what detractors said and make art out of responding to it. But my read of the situation is Geri and Victoria were genuinely effected by their detractors. It's generally some other Spices feeding reunion hype while trying to sell a new book/show of their own. Is it entirely fair to be mad at Geri and Victoria if they're not the ones constantly getting the fanbase hopes up?

Now. Could a three-piece reunion tour between the Mels and Emma work? Look, I'd support whatever they decided to do together. It could be Emma and Mel B Take Ukulele Lessons: LIVE...it could be the three of them setting up a roadside cantaloupe stand. Whatever they do, I'm here for it. Does that extend to the public? I think there's a reality that Victoria and Geri have had the most articles written about them over the years. I do think the profile of the reunion is lowered without the two of them. I'm definitely not convinced they could play stadiums. Now, a very different question...can the three-piece carry a show? Yeah, I do think that. Emma and the Mels still have the passion for performing. There are plenty of great three-piece girl groups. I even think they can re-disburse lines pretty easily.

Just watched/listened to some clips from Spiceworld tour 1998, and my oh my did they sound tireddddd!! Love that they used a live band, but the vocals were grating, and it was clear Geri was unhappy. They all looked stressed and whoever did their makeup deserved a sack.

This is a top story in the tabloids...

~~~
UNEDIFYING details of a private chat between three of the Spice Girls caused some blushes - and fury - when they emerged in court papers this week.
In it, a brutally frank Mel B told bandmates Geri Halliwell and Emma Bunton that "charity doesn't pay the bills" when seemingly discussing a reunion gig.
The Sun understands the leaking of those messages, which formed part of a defamation lawsuit filed on Wednesday in the US, has enraged the '90s pop icons.
And there is likely to be some more rage and red faces over a load of bitchy exchanges kicking around from years ago, before Posh, Scary, Sporty, Baby and Ginger became best of friends again.
We have been told there is a tranche of catty emails which include Posh being slagged off for the way she behaved at the premiere of the Viva Forever! West End musical on December 11, 2012.
She had arrived late on the night having been stuck in traffic, and then chose to sit separately from the group during the show.
Sources say that did not go down well with Mel B, 49, in particular, and it came just months after the girls reunited as a five-piece for the London Olympics closing ceremony.
And we have been told they also secretly called in lawyers over a potential tour which did not include Victoria Beckham - in case she tried to stop them.
At one point a few years later, fractures between the other three and Victoria and Mel C, both 50, appeared to be at rock bottom - as they plotted a comeback without them.
A source told The Sun one girl even bitched about the financial woes of one of her bandmates to a confidant.
This all comes after Mel B's group chat with Geri, 51, and Emma, 48, emerged.
Ironically, Geri told Mel after her "charity doesn't pay" remark that she hopes "nobody ever hacks your texts" - to which Mel said: “Why? My texts are fine," before adding: “Like I said charity doesn’t pay the bills everyone no’s that."
Our source said: "This is highly embarrassing for the girls as it doesn't exactly chime with their core messages.
"But obviously it was a fair few years ago now and they've all kissed and made up since then.
"Just look at how happy they were together celebrating Victoria's 50th birthday back in April, belting out their greatest hits together after a few drinks.
"The hatchet is well and truly buried."
Victoria did act pretty badly at that premiere like she thought she was above them.
Well Mel B was facing serious financial problems, still is, and wanted to get the band back for more thsn jist a one off charity gig. I dkn't see the problem tbh. And the cat fight messages lol, we all knew this. Ptherwise the band would be still going.
Lol, all the spice fans were cursing Victoria that night (myself, included) for ruining the musical before it even began! She was in the wrong there for not showing up as a team player when she wanted people to pay to see their musical.
I would agree that the lack of a united front from the girls was at least an aspect in the musical's failure. It's funny because even though they posed as a 5 on stage that very same night, it was almost as if it was too little, too late... the fact that it was just 4 of them posing outside, with Victoria only with her family... was the clearer message being sent out.
Think it was the very first confirmation that Victoria was not going to be performing with them anymore, though somehow still attached to the group as a brand.
It was awkward as hell though, and the Viva Forever documentary also made it look like the 4 girls where going to be *the* group moving forward, as towards the end you could mainly see images/clips of the 4 of them.
This ambiguity was very awkward back then, though in the long run it might have worked well in their favour as it is clear they are all friends and part of the group, just not a 5-some when performing. The GP and the press have come to accept it.
But back in 2012, it killed the musical for sure as there was so much focus on them being separated whilst the music was showing a united front. The least she could have done was to arrive with the girls and pose, then join her family. The way it was conducted, it was definitely wrong on her part!
Victoria dressed like she had just come from a shift at the office while the girls were all in party dresses just distanced her further even when stood with them.
It wasn't just the musical but her during the interviews for the launch too, she was behaving utterly ridiculous not saying much and standing apart from the others. It was clear there had been some argument / disagreement between the other four and her beforehand.
While that is not the reason for the failure of the musical (that's because it was kinda shit) it definitely did not help at the beginning.
The musical flopping was nothing to do with the photo only the hardcore fans cared. General public would have read and swiftly moved on. The musical was DIRE !!
I do think a good musical could work though. They have plenty of uptempos: wannabe, SYBT, WDYTYA, love thing, SUYL, Stop, NGUOTGT, Do It..
It's just not enough. They need to combine with Girld Aloud for a musical that actually works, but it would only work in UK and Europe, no Mamma Mia levels of global success.
it just has to be about the spice girls. People care when the story involves them, not some other nonsense Mamma Mia style.
