Ever since his sophomore album came out, he has been churning out the same dreary song for years. No development whatsoever. How boring. zzz.gif

I get this angle if you're referring only to his hits, but I'd argue the songs that show his growth are often tucked away on the albums. A song like Ruin would never have existed on Handwritten and showed a pretty impressive jump in maturity for Illuminate, while he branched out his sound on the self-titled album through songs like Lost In Japan (original and remix), Nervous, and others. Wonder was done dirty with its singles (an In My Blood retread sonically, followed by a song with a Justin Bieber verse slapped on). Songs like Higher, Teach Me How to Love and Look Up At the Stars show a side to Shawn we've not seen in the charts. Having so few singles per era, and poor choices from Wonder, makes Shawn look far more one-note than he actually is in my opinion!

As for this song, it's definitely quite Shawn-by-numbers sonically but it's a lovely track, does its job well (Bjork is right, he finished the song less than a day before it came out so not intended as a proper comeback track).

Definitely agree with this, I'm not sure why more singles don't get pushed and whenever I've listened to a new album he's released I've always been surprised by how different some of the songs are and hoping they'll be pushed as singles although they never are! Just based on his singles though, his output is definitely starting to sound a bit monotonous. Let's hope this changes with the next era.

I'm pretty impressed by this track, much more so due to its "impromptu" nature. I'm savouring
