Released as the third single from the bands debut album 'Definitely Maybe' on 8th August 1994. The song was the first Oasis single to enter the top ten in the United Kingdom, anmd was the track that got everyone's attention to the band.
"Live Forever" has garnered additional acclaim years after its release. In 2006, "Live Forever" was named the greatest song of all-time in a poll released by Q; the song had ranked ninth in a similar Q poll three years prior. In 2007, "Live Forever" placed number one in the NME and XFM poll of the 50 "Greatest Indie Anthems Ever". Pitchfork labeled the song as Oasis' best ever track and said of the song; "It's an honest, aspirational sentiment just as the photo of John Lennon's childhood home on the single's sleeve is an honest, tasteful exhibition of fandom." The music site went on to praise the song for its 'fearless optimism'. On 2 April 2018, Live Forever reached number one on Radio X's Best of British poll.
Liam has more recently played the track at the One Love Manchester benefit concert for the victims of the Manchester Arena bombing as well at the Brit Awards in tribute to the victims as Ariana Grande was unable to attend due to illness.
1. Don't Look Back In Anger - 68.00%
Here we have our very clear winner. Released as the fourth single from the bands second studio album 'What's The Story (Morning Glory)', the song was written by the band's guitarist and main songwriter Noel Gallagher. It became the band's second single to reach No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart, where it also went platinum. It was the first Oasis single with lead vocals by Noel, who had previously only sung lead on B-sides, instead of his brother Liam. It is one of the band's signature songs, and was played at almost every single live show from its release to the dissolution of the band in 2009. In 2012, it was ranked No. 1 on a list of the "50 Most Explosive Choruses" by NME. On 29 May 2017, Absolute Radio 90s broadcast a programme counting down the top 50 songs written by Noel Gallagher to mark his 50th birthday, with the song being voted No. 1.
Great Number 1! Thankyou all for voting, stay safe x
Not the winner I chose but still an excellent winner thank you for this Gavin!
Shame that Live Forever couldn't quite win through but still a good winner none the less. Really enjoyed this Gavin, it's made me realise that I enjoy them more than I thought I did.
Thanks for hosting again, a great top 2!
Thanks Gavin, pretty good results from the voting overall too
yes thanks for hosting
good results, I really think it's the correct top 5, and I like equally Live forever and DLBIA so don't mind the winner
Little by Little missing the top 10 and wonderwall going top 3 were the only 2 upsets for me, i would loved little by little to have got a top 3 finish, happy for dont look back in anger winning. Enjoyed the whole thing so thank you for hosting.
Can't really argue with the winner, it's a classic.
Great work Gavin, you renewed my interest in the survivor threads!
A very fitting winner. I voted Live Forever in the final but DLBIA is still a fantastic victor.
