What a load of tut, clear sky, calm night, and all of a sudden a hurricane blows his sail around laugh.gif Why swim back to the boat, go for the dinghy, it's not high up to fling yourself on to.

Jack P Shephard has been brilliant these last couple of episodes. Or rather ... his character has been given lines that actually make sense (delivered in a brilliant, deadpan way). I love his constant digs as the 'dimness' of his siblings.

She has certainly come out with the best insult to another character ... calling Mollie a 'plate-faced slapper' on Thursday night! I can't even stand Margi Clarke but that was class!

It may be a little off at the moment (and certainly nowhere near as good as when it has been on form in the past) but at least its comedy works. Whilst the dramatics in Eastenders has been decent lately (largely down to the actors ... not the scriptwriters) it still is woeful in its comedic side. I have never laughed at anything that Eastenders has wanted people to laugh at ... it just seems forced. I did laugh at Max though when he was crying over Bradley ... now that was funny ... not sure it was meant to be though.

I'd disagree - I find Corrie's comedy to absolutely cringeworthy to watch! Like Mushy said, total panto which I'm not a fan off lol.

I just find it so false.

Eastenders comedy IMO is vastly underrated. Characters like Aunt Sal provide it superbly.

I think Eastenders just isn't a programme which is to Norma's taste generally because the comedy is often fantastic! If you don't laugh at the antics of characters like Zainab (who incidentally does serious stuff amazingly too) or Ian then I can't imagine you'd find any comedy in soap funny...

Jark you get me all wrong. I've actually started to like Eastenders a bit lately (or at least respect it a bit more) ... the drama is superb ... but the humour just does not work for me. I guess humour is a matter of taste ... as I do believe you don't think Rab C Nesbitt is funny ... whilst I think not only is it funny, but totally relevant ... its writers know their job. I just think if Eastenders is to inject some adult comedy (and not just have the token funny characters like Mo, Heffer, Robbie and Dot ... who are there largely because they just 'look' funny) it needs to employ some scriptwriters to whom comedy is a speciality. As much as I like Adam Woodyatt (who I like because he's an ace person off-set and a dab-hand at quizzes) I don't believe they've ever given him a decent comedy line ... they seem to think that that smug smile his character gives now and again ... and his cowering in the shadow of Phil Mitchell ... serves as comedy and it just doesn't.

I think they really need to ask Ricky Gervais to 'guest-script' some episodes. I am sure he could inject some decent, sophisticated humour even into a soap.

Well the problem with getting comedy writers in to do an episode of a soap is that the drama invariably suffers which is why everybody hated Emmerdale when it went through that 'comedic' phase a year or two ago (or so I've read). People would rather have good drama and a lack of comedy than vice versa, but of course it's nice if a balance can be found and personally I believe EE has been on top of that balance for a good while now. It's not always comedy that comes from a specific line, more the absurdity of a situation sometimes. They do that sort of humour very well.

Oh and Dot is not meant to be there for comedic purposes! I know you and she have beef though heehee.gif

I can't comment much on Corrie's humour of late because the last time I caught anything of it was when Gail was weeping and harping on about dead Joe and I had to switch over for the sake of my sanity but traditionally I've always thought it to be incredibly panto-esque and pretty unbearable. That Sean character... he makes my blood boil!

i dont find comedy in eastenders, i find zainab just bizarre, not a pleasant view.

emmerdale pisses all over the rest when it comes to comedic performances, viv, nicola, val, in particular are often the scource... great characters.

Corrie cast 'worried about new producer'
Sunday, February 28 2010, 07:26 GMT

By Catriona Wightman, Entertainment Reporter

ITV
The stars of Coronation Street are reportedly worried that they will lose their jobs under a new producer.

Phil Collinson will join the show next month after Kim Crowther decided to step down.

However, the News of the World reports that the cast of the ITV1 soap are concerned that Collinson will decide to kill off up to six characters.

Veteran stars of the show, including William Roache (Ken Barlow), Barbara Knox (Rita Sullivan) and Bill Tarmey (Jack Duckworth) are expected to be safe because of the 50th anniversary later this year.

However, Malcolm Hebden (Norris Cole), Jimi Harkishin (Dev Alahan), Sue Cleaver (Eileen Grimshaw), Steven Arnold (Ashley Peacock), Julie Haworth (Claire Peacock) and Samia Smith (Maria Connor) are all thought to be facing the chop.

One cast member reportedly said: "Everyone fears for their jobs. I know I do. I'm just keeping my head down. But a new producer will always want to make their mark - bringing in new characters and getting rid of those they believe have gone stale."

The insider added: "We have had Corrie murderers Tricky Dicky [Richard Hillman] and Tony Gordon but the new boss could kill off more characters than those two put together."

Im not the biggest corrie fan but if this did ever turn out to be trur i would be disapointed to see eileen grimshaw axed she is one of the few great charactors in the show and always very under used.
