BuzzJack Music Forum _ Pop _ Marlisa - Stand By You

Posted by: Liаm 20th October 2014, 01:32 PM

Marlisa won The X Factor Australia today, following in the footsteps of Dami Im, Reece Mastin and Samantha Jade so her debut single is released today! It's more winners single esque than Alive or What You've Done To Me, but follows the usual XF Australia trick of allowing the contestant to release a song that suits them as their winning single.

I wish the UK put as much effort into their winner's singles. It's not as good as Dami or Samantha's winning songs, but it's still promising. The chorus bares more than a passing resemblance of Jessica Mauboy's Kiss Me Hello...

I hear that comparison actually! She does remind me a lot of Jessica when she was that age tbf.

AMAZING.

I think it's solid enough, but What You've Done To Me is much better in terms of winners singles. I didn't really pay much attention to her and I'm surprised she won, but happy nevertheless. Should rack up at least one week here in Aus.

The song will probably sell as much as "Alive". Not a strong lead on iTunes and already decreasing but she will get her #1 for sure.

I bloody LOVE this. It's such a strong pop song. Aus XF winners have been uniformly brilliant with their lead singles thus far.

The first XF Australia winning single to miss #1 since Altiyan Childs in 2010 sad.gif Oh well, #2 is a strong debut as to be fair it's not a hugely commercial or current sounding song exactly and it's still #3 on itunes so is holding up well. Hopefully it's certified platinum, the past three all went platinum (Reece Mastin's was 5x platinum and Samantha Jade's went 3x platinum) but I think that's within reach.

Dean Ray's single is #1 already on itunes though so it may be a Joe McElderry/Olly Murs kind of thing, we'll see tongue.gif I think both artists will do well personally.

"Stand By You" sold 27,666 copies in 3 days. Gold next week and the song seems very steady on iTunes so maybe platinum with the christmas sales. Not bad smile.gif
