Chart Commentary
Climbing to the top spot this week, giving us the 15th new #1 in as many weeks, are The Tide with their first proper release Click My Fingers. The Tide is an American boyband, comprising of (left to right in the pic above) Drew Dirken, Nate Parker, Austin Corini and Levi Jones. They were the first signing to The Vamps' label Steady Records, an offshoot of Virgin EMI. Previously, the boys reached #2 in my chart with Young Love, a free download track from earlier in the year. Young Love spent 16 weeks in my chart, spread over two stints. Click My Fingers gives them a new high, going one better all the way to the top. Interestingly, Click My Fingers also has the title of the 150th #1 single since my chart began in 2011! The Tide 2016 02 Young Love | 1 | 13-2-4-6-13-22-26-35-X-10-7-9-12-19-25-29-37-X (16 non-consecutive weeks) 2016 01 Click My Fingers | 2 | 13-1-... (2+ weeks) Climbing a huge 17 places into the top 10 this week is singer/songwriter Tom Odell. Concrete is the third top 10 hit from current album Wrong Crowd, and his seventh top 10 hit in total. He's achieved two #1s with Real Love and Magnetised, although his biggest hit remains the #3 peaking Another Love. Can't Pretend and Hold Me have low peaks in his chart history below because I only discovered him with the Another Love single release, so they basically charted as album tracks after I saw him live! Tom Odell 2013 03 Another Love | 3 | 7-3-5-6-4-5-8-6-10-12-16-19-19-21-14-18-25-24-24-26-28-33-34-39-33-36-39-X-6-11-16-24-X (31 non-consecutive weeks) 2013 02 Grow Old With Me | 4 | 34-X-5-7-6-9-5-2-3-6-10-12-15-18-20-22-27-25-28-34-38-X-38-X (21 non-consecutive weeks) 2013 11 Can't Pretend | 1 | 40-X-11-19-26-X (4 non-consecutive weeks) 2013 02 I Know | 5 | 27-9-15-17-8-6-4-2-4-7-11-15-23-28-33-39-37-X (17 weeks) 2014 34 Hold Me | 2 | 34-X (1 week) 2014 01 Real Love | NAS | 1-1-2-1-1-2-1-2-3-5-6-7-9-12-16-15-20-24-25-25-30-35-X (22 weeks) 2016 02 Wrong Crowd | PS | 2-4-10-18-28-X (5 weeks) 2016 01 Magnetised | 1 | 14-1-2-2-6-7-10-11-5-4-7-14-18-22-31-37-X (16 weeks) 2016 12 Fiction (Kygo feat. Tom Odell) | FEAT | 36-12-16-18-21-28-X (6 weeks) 2016 12 Here I Am | AT | 22-12-17-25-38-X (5 weeks) 2016 07 Concrete | 2 | 18-27-33-X-35-26-24-7-... (7+ non-consecutive weeks) Thomas Jack and Jasmine Thompson are behind this week's highest climber, as the appropriately titled Rise Up climbs 28 places to #10, giving Thomas his first top 10 and Jasmine her third. Thomas Jack is an Australian DJ and producer, while Jasmine is a British 15 year-old singer/songwriter, whose previous hits include collaborations with Robin Schulz and Felix Jaehn. Thomas Jack 2016 10 Rise Up (Thomas Jack & Jasmine Thompson) | NAS | 38-10-... (2+ weeks) Jasmine Thompson 2014 40 Sun Goes Down (Robin Schulz feat. Jasmine Thompson) | FEAT | 40-X (1 week) 2015 06 Adore | 1 | 6-11-18-27-32-X (5 weeks) 2015 09 Ain't Nobody (Loves Me Better) [Felix Jaehn feat. Jasmine Thompson] | FEAT | 28-9-12-19-29-X-23-33-X (7 non-consecutive weeks) 2016 10 Rise Up (Thomas Jack & Jasmine Thompson) | FEAT | 38-10-... (2+ weeks) Also this week, twenty one pilots climb 11 spots to #6, giving them their first ever top 10 after previous hit Stressed Out only got to #24. Dreezy also climbs into the top 10 with her own single Body, just as her collaboration with AlunaGeorge drops out. Jeremih, the featured artist on Body, matches his chart peak of #9, achieved also as a feature on Natalie La Rose's Somebody last year. Lower down the chart, we have chart debuts for Ben Weighill, Danny L Harle and Christine and the Queens. Ben Weighill's cover of Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper is new at #33, and is currently being used as the soundtrack to an advert for bed shop Dreams (above). Danny L Harle's collaboration with Carly Rae Jepsen is new at #39. Carly is no stranger to the chart, having had a #1 single back in 2012 with Call Me Maybe and five further top 10 hits since. Next week looks set to be a week of huge climbers - expect Mollie King, Ellie Goulding, Shawn Mendes and Britney Spears (Do You Wanna Come Over?) to all climb high after their strong debuts this week, as well as the first hit from Henrik Høven, who has this week's highest new entry. More on all of these next week! |

Hooray for Tilted entry!
Oh hey, Justin Bieber doubled up the Top 2 last week! Interesting. And I can't look at the title of that OneRepublic song without hearing the MGMT song in my head... Keep it up! |

Hi Joseph
Oh! A US boyband at the top spot here. Obviously their song reminds me of The Vamps. Great to see DJ Snake and Major Lazer still in the top 3. I like Back To You but I don't think Mollie King will be official top 40 next Friday. Nice chart |

Sadly I don't think it will be a hit but it will most certainly climb my chart this week!! 39. I think Radio 1 will back this, they couldn't get enough of his last single lol so I'd be surprised if this is totally blanked. Muuuch better than said previous single too! 40. It's proved to be quite the grower so far I think! Hooray for Tilted entry! Oh hey, Justin Bieber doubled up the Top 2 last week! Interesting. And I can't look at the title of that OneRepublic song without hearing the MGMT song in my head... Keep it up! Hey Jeff, thanks for commenting! Justin's a huge force in my chart really, although it's the first time he's locked out the top 2! DAISY Thank you so much for this amazing discovery Hi Joseph Oh! A US boyband at the top spot here. Obviously their song reminds me of The Vamps. Great to see DJ Snake and Major Lazer still in the top 3. I like Back To You but I don't think Mollie King will be official top 40 next Friday. Nice chart Hey Jason! Thanks for commenting! I don't think the song itself sounds too much like The Vamps tbh! It's a bit more drum and bass influenced I think. Mollie definitely won't be top 40 but I expected her to have an even worse debut than she's gonna get so I can't complain! Hello ;O 4. JoJo - f*** Apologies. (feat. Hey Joseph!
2. DJ Snake - Let Me Love You (feat. Justin Bieber) - 12-1-2- 3. Major Lazer - Cold Water (feat. Justin Bieber & MØ) - 14-1-2-2-3- I definitely prefer this over the DJ Snake song, just can't seem to get into that 5. Britney Spears - Make Me... (feat. G-Eazy) - 8-1-2-3-5-5- 6. twenty one pilots - Heathens - 17-6- 7. Tom Odell - Concrete - 18-27-33-X-35-26-24-7- This is fast becoming my favourite Tom Odell song 11. Anne-Marie - Alarm - 24-32-X-3-4-6-11- 13. AlunaGeorge - Mean What I Mean (feat. Leikeli47 & Dreezy) - 17-9-7-8-13- 14. Mollie King - Back to You - 14- This is nice enough, but definitely too weak to be a hit. Bit of a shame really! 15. Tove Lo - Cool Girl - 20-10-15- 16. MØ - Final Song - 19-4-6-9-16- 17. Ellie Goulding - Still Falling for You - 17- After all the hype, this is a bit disappointing really. It's definitely not as good as LMLYD. 21. 5 Seconds of Summer - Girls Talk Boys - 10-2-5-9-16-21- Still loving this, I'm gutted it hasn't done better for them, especially considering the R1 support. 24. Shawn Mendes - Treat You Better - 5-1-2-1-4-4-6-11-14-14-19-24- 27. Britney Spears - Do You Wanna Come Over? - 27- 29. Olly Murs - You Don't Know Love - 20-27-26-19-26-29- Another disappointingly performing single, this really did deserve to go Top 10 for him (as did Kiss Me actually). 30. OneRepublic - Kids - 30- Not quite as good as the last single for me, and I can't see it performing even as well as that. 31. M.O - Who Do You Think Of? - 6-8-13-21-31-X-36-25-17-23-31- 32. Clean Bandit - Tears (feat. Louisa Johnson) - 2-1-2-3-3-8-9-9-13-18-18-25-32- 36. Troye Sivan - WILD - 35-1-1-3-2-4-6-7-14-19-24-23-28-19-19-25-27-29-26-29-35-37-X-31-X-34-27-36- Great to see the longevity for this 37. Fifth Harmony - All In My Head (Flex) [feat. Fetty Wap] - 1-2-3-5-8-10-12-14-16-19-22-29-37- 39. Danny L Harle - Super Natural (feat. Carly Rae Jepsen) - 39- This seriously needs to SMASH! 40. Christine and the Queens - Tilted - 40- Great chart this week |

Hey Joseph! 3. Major Lazer - Cold Water (feat. Justin Bieber & MØ) - 14-1-2-2-3- I definitely prefer this over the DJ Snake song, just can't seem to get into that 7. Carly Rae Jepsen) - 39- This seriously needs to SMASH! Great chart this week Hey Mango! Thanks for commenting 3. I prefer this too but only just! Both songs have really hit the spot for me, I hope Let Me Love You gets a shot at the official #1 this week. 7. It's so good! The way it builds throughout 14. I think it could be a hit given half the chance but we know that won't happen 17. I prefer LMLYD but this is pretty fab too I think, especially when it explodes nearer the end! 21. 5SOS don't seem to be capturing the general public's eye outside of the first era real shame! 29. God knows what's happened with this! It's had all the radio support and is still struggling... 30. I prefer Wherever I Go for sure, this isn't quite hitting the spot despite being a well executed pop track. It's lacking something I think. 36. Such a beauty of a song 39. I will be surprised if Radio 1 don't support it! Hi Joseph! 1. The Tide - Click My Fingers - 13-1- were these on X Factor? the name rings a bell... 9. Dreezy - Body (feat. Jeremih) - 15-9- sounded pretty catchy when I heard this! 14. Mollie King - Back to You - 14- I'm glad the best member released this, a not too bad tune 17. Ellie Goulding - Still Falling for You - 17- not too fussed on this one yet, preferred On My Mind 39. Danny L Harle - Super Natural (feat. Christine and the Queens - Tilted - 40- great to see a song like this can still achieve success in the streaming era Strong chart! Hey Dobbo, thanks for commenting! 1. They weren't! Maybe the name rings a bell from all the rabbiting on I do 9. Definitely catchy! The chorus is irresistible I think. 14. Mollie is indeed the best member! *.* 17. On My Mind still sounds great to me, but I'm loving this too! 39. I didn't like Broken Flowers so this is a huge improvement for sure! A long way to go before it's my Carly fave though 40. It's been quite the surprise hit hasn't it? No complaints, I didn't like it at first but it's grown for sure. Hey Seph, I COULD HAVE SWORN i commented on this last week Glad to see twenty one pilots top 10 Dreezy is pretty good Mollie King and Ellie Goulding have made fab pop songs Mercy is very good That Britney song Kids is good sounds like a grower imo Time After Time cover Danny L Harle and Christine and the Queens are two fab enteries Great Chart Silly bean Harry! thank you for the comments *.* -- NEW CHART COMING SHORTLY |
