*Post from the Pop Forum*

Good evening Buzzjack!!

I am delighted to announce that nearly all the AF mods have #ComeTogether to bring you the Artist Forum Song Contest! cheer.gif Our first contest is happening very soon and the best part of it is YOU get to decide what each forum's entry will be! The mods of each participating AF will be holding national finals in each of their forums over the next month before we all meet up in the Girls Aloud forum for the grand final! We've also decided to select a theme for the contest and that theme is... Should've been a single! (This will be started in a NEW thread soon!)

I'll keep this thread updated with which forums are currently holding their national finals but in the mean time, here is a list of the AFs currently confirmed to be taking part!

Beyoncé
Britney Spears
Girls Aloud
Justin Timberlake
Katy Perry
Kylie & Dannii Minogue
Lady Gaga
Leona Lewis
Little Mix
Madonna
Miley Cyrus
MKS & Sugababes
One Direction
Pink
Rihanna
Robbie Williams
The Saturdays
Will Young

The other AFs have had invitations to participate, and they are still free to do so!

It's all going to be very exciting and we hope that we can get as many of you to take part not only in the grand final, but visiting each AF to help in selecting their entry!

Please support the Take That forum and help choose an entry to represent the boys! Watch this space to vote in the final too!

The first theme:

"SHOULDA BEEN A SINGLE"

Posted by: pippa 23rd August 2016, 05:35 PM

Hold up A Light is my suggestion.

Posted by: milly 23rd August 2016, 06:00 PM

Like I Never Loved You At All or Don't Say Goodbye.
But I'll go with whatever the majority decides.

8 letters, reach out or hold up a light.

Posted by: nirvanamusic 24th August 2016, 06:59 AM

Eight Letters, The Day After Tomorrow.

Posted by: milly 24th August 2016, 07:24 AM

I had forgotten about 8 Letters and Reach Out. I love them as well.

Posted by: dylan62 24th August 2016, 08:23 AM

There are so, so many to choose from. I'm happy to go with Eight Letters.

Posted by: milly 24th August 2016, 08:44 AM

I'm happy to go with 8 Letters too.
When do you have to let the main forum know, Pippa?

Posted by: pippa 24th August 2016, 01:33 PM

I have confirmed our participation in the contest. Eight Letters has the most nominations here so far, i also adore the song but forgot to nominate it. I would be very happy to send this song forward based on what we have from posters in the forum so far.

Posted by: gooddelta 24th August 2016, 04:07 PM

I'd go with Eight Letters too, or perhaps We All Fall Down or Reach Out (though not sure if it's eligible as it was a single in various parts of Europe).

Posted by: pippa 24th August 2016, 06:46 PM

Eight Letters it is based on that. I will put the song forward now and hopefully it can do reasonably ok.

So many to choose from!

Hold Up A Light (Pretty sure this would have been huge with a tour video to go with it)
Wooden Boat wub.gif

Posted by: pippa 26th August 2016, 01:54 PM

Hold Up A Light is a wonderful song. Always extremely well received when performed.I also believe it would have been a successful single.

Posted by: dylan62 26th August 2016, 02:49 PM

I don't think HUAL would have been successful. It's a song which comes to life in a live show but not such much as a recording. I'm probably in the minority here but I think it would tank as a single release.

If I was to choose a Mark lead single then I'd go for WAFD - although if I'm honest I don't think that would do well either, although it's a great album song. Many of TT's recent releases haven't actually been single worthy material. Good solid album songs but lacking the overall quality or catchy appeal required for a successful single.

Their forthcoming album really does need 3 or 4 single worthy songs. I think the album may do poorly if they can't recreate the sound of BW/Circus.

Posted by: milly 26th August 2016, 05:34 PM

If most had voted HUAL, I'd have gone with it - I'll say that first. But I agree with Dylan - it's a song that comes alive during a live show, I don't actually find much pleasure in listening to it as a record and I'm happy it never was a single.
As for We All Fall Down - sorry, don't get it, never did, I find it hard to listen to and I don't really understand what's to like about it. I find it baffling that people prefer this to the beautiful I'd Wait For Life.

YOU would have been another single choice, at least imo. There are plenty of songs that could have been released as 4th single, at least - shame they never were.

Anyway, I'm happy with the song selected, 8 Letters. I hope the rest of the Buzzjack users like it too.

Posted by: pippa 26th August 2016, 06:46 PM

I too hope the rest of Buzzjack will appreciate the wonderful 8 Letters.

Eight Letters is a beautiful song. wub.gif

Posted by: dylan62 27th August 2016, 12:02 AM

Following The Flood , Eight Letters should have been the second single off the album. I know many people rate Kidz but I think it was a strange choice, and for me represents everything I dislike about Progress. The video is fun but in my view the song wasn't worthy of a single release.

The Flood wasn't representative of Progress as a whole and neither was EL - but both songs were head and shoulders better than the 'electronic stuff'. Boring as it is they should have stuck to their tried and tested formula - to deviate too far from it was a mistake in my view, although sales figures were of course huge. Would the album have sold so much if Kidz had been the first release - not a chance in my view. However, I do think sales would still have been strong if EL had been the initial single.

Hold up a light is mine; if that was released in December around the time of the XF final it could have been massive. Could easily have been a Xmas song

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 29th August 2016, 02:12 AM

Hold up a light would have at least managed top 20 with promo I think. Very radio friendly song.

Posted by: pippa 30th August 2016, 04:19 PM

I would be of the same belief but the reality no is we will never know.

Posted by: jay727 30th August 2016, 05:23 PM

I never understood why it wasn't the follow up. Had Mark on lead, festive, catchy and has been used in every live show since Circus...

Posted by: pippa 30th August 2016, 07:10 PM

It would have made a great follow up, it is clear it is a song they still appreciate themselves as it has appeared on so many tours. That said, it is always received well by the crowd.

Posted by: jay727 31st August 2016, 08:23 PM

It's probably one of my favourite songs! Always look forward to hearing it

Posted by: pippa 6th October 2016, 04:31 PM

I have now voted (just now).

Posted by: pippa 10th October 2016, 01:06 PM

Thank you Feel The Fever. Has anyone else submitted their votes yet, Take That will need all the votes they can get so we need the users of the forum to vote.

Posted by: milly 10th October 2016, 04:35 PM

I'll submit my votes this week, Pippa.
I have to listen to most of those songs, as I'm unfamiliar with them.
Take That will get the higher score, though smile.gif

PS: I've submitted my choices. Gosh, these have been some excruciating minutes - most of those songs are unlistenable.

Posted by: pippa 10th October 2016, 06:39 PM

Many of the songs are extremely poor but i found it relatively easy to narrow it down and put the required scores together.

Take That-Eight Letters got 10 points from me dry.gif

Posted by: milly 10th October 2016, 07:01 PM

Shame on you,Pippa! laugh.gif Only 10 points? tongue.gif
I thought they were easily the best on that list, without any bias. I even gave points to Rihanna, Robbie and Britney, in my attempt at objectivity tongue.gif

Posted by: pippa 10th October 2016, 07:35 PM

I awarded some points to Robbie too, 8 letters is a great song but i slightly preferred another song on the list. I voted as honest as i could.
