So many similarities in Harry and Declan's album covers mellow.gif I should probably listen to more of Declan's album based on how much I liked 'Brazil' ;o

Bring on the singles! cheer.gif

Such a strong top two in your albums there but the right winner of the two I think. It is crazy how polished Declan sounds at such a young age and it's amazing how talented he is to make such relatable lyrics and still make them into catchy radio-friendly sounding pop songs.

Totally agree on it being nice to see Harry's voice shine on his solo album too. He's always had my favourite voice in the band too and it really does sound brilliant on the slower tracks on the album. Two Ghosts is my favourite single yet but I do hope he squeezes one more about before moving on to more music !! wub.gif

Lovely stuff Joseph!!

Points Charts

I compile a points chart using my weekly charts every year, but I don't like to consider it as my official EOY chart because I quite often disagree with the placings. Newer songs are at a huge disadvantage, with some hits having their points split between two different years, and their hit status is never quite reflected in these points charts. Furthermore, depending on the amount of new music around, some songs find it easier than others to rack up points. In a faster climate such as this year, long-runners have been rewarded heavily with high placings, and we start to see how big certain #2 hits have been in comparison to the #1s that beat them.

Harry Styles unsurprisingly tops my singles chart, but a further four songs all being within 100 points of him, it shows that it's far from certain that he'll take my official EOY #1. Camila Cabello sneaks up to #2, matching her weekly chart peak (she got blocked by Rita Ora's Anywhere, which is considerably newer and is therefore at a disadvantage and features lower down). Another bunch of #2s feature next to each other, courtesy of Anne-Marie, Katy Perry and Manel Navarro.

In the album chart, Harry reigns supreme again, ahead of official EOY #1 Declan McKenna (who has a disadvantage as his album is newer). Troye Sivan tops the pre-2017 album chart for a second year running, with his astonishingly huge album Blue Neighbourhood still dominating throughout 2017. Its record-breaking 92 week run came to and end in 2017, but it still put up a big fight for the overall #1 album, ultimately ending up second behind Harry. Last year's #1 from Benjamin ends up in second place.

Songs

241 Nathan Sykes - There's Only One of You | 29-20-24-33-X (4 weeks)
242 Harry Styles - Ever Since New York | n/a
243 AJR feat. Louisa Johnson - Weak | 19-29-X (2 weeks)
244 Martin Jensen - Solo Dance | 35-22-19-26-34-X (5 weeks)
245 Jason Derulo feat. French Montana - Tip Toe | 17-20-… (2+ weeks)
246 Anton Powers & Pixie Lott - Baby | 21-16-22-31-X (4 weeks)
247 Calvin Harris feat. Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry & Big Sean - Feels | 33-19-18-27-36-X (5 weeks)
248 Benny - Boys Will Be Boys | 15-32-X (2 weeks)
249 New Hope Club - Perfume | 34-26-33-X-34-X (4 non-consecutive weeks)
250 Mariah Carey feat. YG - I Don't | 12-15-34-X (3 weeks)

As usual, the bottom 10 songs are mostly filled out with flash-in-the-pan top 20 hits that I've not really revisited since they impacted. Mariah Carey finishes last, unfortunately I Don't was well below her usual standard. It didn't feel natural in the slightest and the entire campaign was a total mess. Shame, because #Beautiful proved that Mariah does have what it takes to produce amazing songs these days, but I Don't isn't one of them and only really charted off hype.

New Hope Club have been on my radar for a while. Much like The Tide, they're signed to The Vamps' label, and have supported them a couple of times on tour. Perfume is a song they've played live many times, and it finally saw a release this year as part of their EP. It's a fun little track, not as much of a hit in my chart as I expected, but still good and I believe one of only two songs in my top 250 not to make my weekly top 20.

A few artists in this section scored their first hits with these particular songs. Singer/songwriter Benny has only charted with Boys Will Be Boys so far, but it's a lovely Troye-esque track that I've actually enjoyed revisiting recently. AJR's Weak finally charted with some help from Louisa Johnson, and Anton Powers redeemed himself after I didn't enjoy his 2015 chart hits. With a helping hand from Pixie Lott, Baby became a top 20 hit for him. Martin Jensen also debuted in my chart this year, and Solo Dance scored him his first top 20 hit. He has a collaboration with The Vamps still to come, where will it land?

On the other hand of the spectrum, we have some established artists here. Calvin Harris landed his highest position since How Deep Is Your Love with his UK #1 single Feels, which marks Katy Perry's first appearance of four. Jason Derulo scored two top 20 hits this year (and If I'm Lucky wasn't far off either), with Tip Toe being the first to drop out. It stands a chance of improving on this next year if it continues to impact, so perhaps one to watch in next year's countdown?

Finally, we reach two former boyband stars. Harry Styles' album track Ever Since New York is the only track in my countdown not to make my weekly chart, but it's become a firm favourite from his album. Finally, Nathan Sykes' final single There's Only One of You became his third top 20 hit in my chart, following Over and Over Again and Give It Up. I thought it had potential to be a hit but it didn't hit the spot in the end and tailed off quickly, but made a respectable #20 in my chart anyway.

Hi Joseph

Yaaaay at "Ever Since New York" just sneaking in despite not charting at all. It is my big highlight of the album alongside "Meet Me in the Hallway". I do hope he pushes one more single before moving on and one of these would be nice heehee.gif

Oops at Feels kind of flopping though :/ Can't believe you adore Swish Swish but don't love Feels which was such a summer anthem tongue.gif Easily the best Katy Perry song she has released since Dark Horse for me wub.gif

Songs

231 Ariana Grande feat. Future - Everyday | 37-28-27-21-18-21-27-37-X (8 weeks)
232 Paloma Faith - Guilty | 17-… (1+ weeks)
233 Ed Sheeran - Perfect | 40-38-19-25-36-X (5 weeks)
234 Rag'n'Bone Man - Human | 39-X-18-16-23-26-33-X (6 non-consecutive weeks)
235 Margaret - What You Do | 16-32-X (2 weeks)
236 Hailee Steinfeld & Alesso feat. Florida Georgia Line & watt - Let Me Go | 40-X-19-30-X (3 non-consecutive weeks)
237 Madeline Juno - You Know What? | 12-28-X (2 weeks)
238 Dinah Nah - One More Night | 16-26-X (2 weeks)
239 Snakehips & Anne-Marie feat. Joey Bada$$ - Either Way | 18-27-X (2 weeks)
240 Melanie C - Dear Life | 19-24-32-38-X (4 weeks)

From two former boyband members to a former girl group member! Melanie C has scored two #19 hits coincidentally over the past 18 or so months. Anymore was #201 in last year's EOY, and Dear Life features this year. I think I actually prefer Dear Life, which goes to show the overall quality of this year compared to last.

It's a very female heavy section actually, as we see tracks from "Palome my love!" (omrimayo, 2017) and Hailee Steinfeld, neither of which have managed to crack the UK top 40 yet but I'd say Hailee at least has a strong chance after Christmas (and a chance of featuring next year maybe..... I think it could have a revival in my chart). Paloma's Guilty is one of the most recent hits in my EOY, appearing first on the final eligible chart of 2017, and as such its impact is small for now. Ariana Grande's post-album single Everyday tops the section also, failing to peak in the top 5 like the other singles from Dangerous Woman but not doing badly at all considering how late into the campaign it was.

Dinah Nah's Melodifestivalen anthem One More Night, which cruelly didn't make it out of the heats, features at #238, while Margaret, who's set to take part in MFest next year, appears at #285 with What You Do. Continuing the Eurovision national final theme, my former BJSC artist Madeline Juno appears at #237 with You Know What?, a recommendation from our very own Pete. Madeline attempted to represent Germany in 2015 with either Error or Like Lovers Do, the latter of which I sent to BJSC after she failed to make the cut.

Representing the males, production duo Snakehips enlisted Anne-Marie and Joey Bada$$ for their single Either Way, which unfortunately failed to make any impact on the chart. It's Snakehips' first appearance of two, and Anne-Marie's first of three. "Rag N Bone baby! LOL" (RIP MacGirl, 2017 - 2017) is at #234 with huge hit Human, and our current UK #1 is just one spot higher, courtesy of Ed Sheeran. Beyoncé is not credited, because her version is inferior and I've played it a whopping once x

Jooooseph cheer.gif

Gah at Rag N Bone Man making it in, I did kind of like it for a week or so but I'd quite confidently name it my least favourite track of the year now. Overplay really does horrible things to what once was an OK track but it legitimately makes me feel a bit ill now when it comes on the radio laugh.gif None of his follow up songs were good either so he's probably one of my least favourite singers to emerge in recent years laugh.gif

Yay at Perfect making it too, I thought I was bored of Ed after all the overplay but the Bey remix has given it a new lease of life for me. She sounds lovely on it and it's exciting to have two such big stars on one track together. Galway Girl is still his best from this era though wub.gif

You Know What cheer.gif I still love that track! And everything she's done since, even though her style is a little different smile.gif

Either Way was a kind-of guilty pleasure for me as well, after not really liking anything else from Snakehips or Joey.

Songs

221 Kesha - Learn To Let Go | 25-34-X-24-30-26-… (5+ non-consecutive weeks)
222 Fifth Harmony feat. Gucci Mane - Down | 15-15-23-39-X (4 weeks)
223 ZOË - Dangerous Affair | 26-20-21-22-32-X (5 weeks)
224 The Tide - Survive | 12-27-X (2 weeks)
225 Helena Paparizou - Haide | 20-19-25-34-X (4 weeks)
226 Stefflon Don & French Montana - Hurtin' Me | 38-19-21-29-34-X (5 weeks)
227 Pitbull & Jennifer Lopez - Sexy Body | 12-26-X (2 weeks)
228 Digital Farm Animals feat. Hailee Steinfeld - Digital Love | 18-16-18-27-39-X (5 weeks)
229 INDIIA feat. Whitney Phillips - Out of Love | 35-27-27-20-21-23-33-X (7 weeks)
230 NEIKED feat. Mimi - Call Me | 19-26-X (2 weeks)

Apologies for the delay between sections, I've spent my free time in the past few days trying to fix my iPod! laugh.gif

Into this section and we kick off with a few dance songs, all of which seemed like they stood a chance of being successful but none amounted to anything. NEIKED came back with a surprisingly good follow-up to the huge hit Sexual, but a lack of radio support meant it didn't get even close to its predecessor's peak. INDIIA's Out of Love seemed to benefit on iTunes from Hot Songs, but no radio support and no Spotify push meant it never continued on to be a huge hit. Nevertheless, I really like it and it has a really fresh vibe. Completing the trio, Digital Farm Animals' divisive track Digital Love never made as big an impact as Millionaire, but I find it a pretty fun and enjoyable track.

Whilst Pitbull's not had a great deal of chart success recently, he's still bashing out the bangers and Sexy Body is certainly that. His annual J-Lo collab, Sexy Body samples the same track as Zara Larsson's I Would Like, meaning two songs with the same sample will feature in this countdown! Her breakthrough hit, Stefflon Don's Hurtin' Me is at #226, her first appearance of two, while The Tide make their first appearance of three at #224 with b-side Survive.

A double BJSC impact in this section, as songs by ZOË and Helena Paparizou feature. Both came from the same contest, and managed to achieve a top 20 peak each over the summer. Just above is the most underwhelming comeback single of the year - Fifth Harmony's Down was essentially a lesser carbon copy of Work from Home (one of my favourite songs from last year), and it just didn't hit the mark. Camila's spark is missing and the song is just bland really. One spot ahead is Kesha's recent single Learn to Let Go, which has recently surpassed its #24 peak so perhaps a better placing is on the way for the song next year.

Hurtin Me too low!!

Digital Love was alright but had a fast burn rate for me. Those lyrics are poor.

The NEIKED and INDIIA tracks did nothing for me.

hi.gif Joseph

Stefflon Don FAAAAR too low, one of my absolute favourite songs of the year. Was so happy when it started taking off suddenly and became a big hit, even my mum knew all the words *.* I hope Ding a Ling hasn't ruined her momentum by being absolutely dreadful and she can bounce back with something actually listenable ASAP.

I imagine Instruction is her other entry left? Not the biggest fan of the song itself but her verse is amazing, she's just so cool laugh.gif wub.gif
