24. Beyoncé feat. The Weeknd - 6 Inch

2 of the 6 Beyoncé tracks bow out first, both of them being collaborations. Following the release of her album Lemonade the songs were streamed like crazy & these 2 peaked at #35 & #36, both receiving a full play on Radio 1.
Just ahead is Snakehips who surprisingly underperformed with this song which featured Zayn & had all the makings of a huge top 10 hit. It clearly wasn't all that popular on here though as it limps out in 22nd.
The Vamps teamed up with Norwegian DJ Matoma for their latest single All Night which became their longest-running top 40 hit to date despite its peak.
Hyped! Hoping for decent results for:
Alessia Cara - Here
The Vamps - All Night
Nick Jonas - Close
Snakehips - Cruel
2 favourites out early oh well
17. Beyoncé – Daddy Lessons
Score: 46
Votes: 8
18. Matoma & Becky Hill – False Alarm
Score: 41
Votes: 8
19. Lady Gaga - Million Reasons
Score: 40
Votes: 7
20. Tom Odell - Magnetised
Score: 40
Votes: 6
Tom Odell returned last year (not yay) & just scraped the top 40 with his comeback single. Level on points but with one more vote is Gaga's second single from latest album Joanne, a drop in tempo from predecesor Perfect Illusion & an X Factor performance of it helped elevate into the Chart.
Matoma earned his first ever top 40 hit with some help from Becky Hill (who has another track in the running here), the song peaking at #28. In 17th is the third Beyoncé song to appear and the only one that didn't enter the top 40 immediately after the album release, instead climbing in the following week.
Would have been nicer to see False Alarm higher
14. Rihanna - Needed Me
Score: 52
Votes: 12
15. Craig David feat. Sigala – Ain’t Giving Up
Score: 52
Votes: 10
16. MK & Becky Hill – Piece Of Me
Score: 50
Votes: 10
Legendary house producer MK returned to the top 40 last year eventually with Piece Of Me after taking a long road to its peak.
Craig David enjoyed an impressive comeback era last year, culminating in four top 40 hits. He teamed up with Sigala for his most recent one which should of course be a lot higher up than this.
Rihanna did manage a second top 40 hit last year, although not with the vastly superior Kiss It Better. Needed Me squeaked in a sole week at #38.
11. Fifth Harmony feat. Fetty Wap – All In My Head (Flex)
Score: 57
Votes: 11
12. Emeli Sandé - Hurts
Score: 57
Votes: 10
13. The xx - On Hold
Score: 55
Votes: 10
Electronic band The xx achieved a second top 40 hit a whole 6 years after their first with On Hold, just missing out on the top half here.
Emeli Sandé suffered a rather unspectacular comeback era last year, lead single Hurts failing to make the top 20 & it finishes a surprisingly low 12th position on this too.
Missing the top 10 by a solitary point are US girl group Fifth Harmony. Their follow up to the huge #2 hit Work couldn't quite achieve the same levels of success, peaking at #25. They do however have a track to appear in the top 10.
Top 10 revealed tomorrow consisting of:
Million Reasons flopping here
Yay for Here and Close. Predicting a win for Dua Lipa or That's My Girl.
I'd hoped All Night could be higher than that I expected it more for Magnetised but it's definitely worthy of being higher! Never expected it to go top 40 actually so it was great to see it scrape a week.
Some great songs in the top 10 but I'm rooting for Mwah now!
Flex is such a win for Fifth Harmony...surprised to see That's My Girl getting higher than it.
Top ten for AlunaGeorge!
10. Selena Gomez - Kill 'Em With Kindness
Score: 58
Votes: 11
Selena Gomez finished in third place last year with Good For You, her #35 hit this year finishes in 10th. This entered the same week as her Charlie Puth collaboration which eventually cracked the top 20 but it was unable to follow in its footsteps.
9. Beyoncé feat. Kendrick Lamar - Freedom
Score: 59
Votes: 8
Impressively Beyoncé has 3 tracks in the top 10 here, first to fall is the #40 hit featuring Kendrick Lamar.
8. Nick Jonas feat. Tove Lo - Close
Score: 59
Votes: 12
Nick Jonas returned to the top 40 exactly a year after Jealous infamously missed out on the #1 spot, teaming up with Tove Lo. Peaking at #25 which was somewhat of a surprise, it was generally popular across the board as its position shows here.
I expected Close to be a little higher!
7. Fifth Harmony - That's My Girl
Score: 60
Votes: 13
Peaking 1 position lower than previous hit All In My Head (Flex), the places are reversed in this comp with That's My Girl coming out on top, although only by 3 points in an extremely tight 7-13 section!
6. Beyoncé – Sorry
Score: 69
Votes: 13
A big jump in points to 6th, Beyoncé can't quite manage 2 songs in the top 5. Sorry spent 2 weeks at #33, one of those amusingly adjacent to the Bieber song of the same name, before dropping out completely alongside all of the other album tracks to miss the top 20.
5. AlunaGeorge feat. Popcaan – I’m In Control
Score: 72
Votes: 15
3 years since their previous top 40 hit You Know You Like It, AlunaGeorge earned themselves another #39 hit, featuring Popcaan, which also entered for a single week. Only one song received more votes than this, that being the eventual winner.
4. Alessia Cara - Here
Score: 76
Votes: 14
Canadian singer Alessia Cara scored a top 40 hit with her debut single, which peaked at #28. Despite dominating some big markets right now she has yet to return the UK top 40 but can be satisfied with a strong 4th position in this contest.
So we are left with Beyoncé Vs. Charli XCX Vs. Dua Lipa!
All my faves out now.
Here is so lyrically brilliant!
3. Charli XCX feat. Lil Yachty - After The Afterparty
Score: 80
Votes: 13
Finishing in third position are Charli XCX & Lil Yachty. Originally entering the top 40 last year at #34 it repeaked a month later at #29, becoming her sixth top 40 hit. It also outperforms Break The Rules from 2 years ago which finished 7th in that contest.
2. Beyoncé – Formation
Score: 84
Votes: 10
Runner-up this year goes to Beyoncé, with her final song in the running. Impressively scoring 84 points from only 10 votes, Formation peaked at #31 in the Charts despite predictions it would possibly even enter the top 10 following her Superbowl performance. Aside from the 6 entries this year, Beyoncé finished in 6th 2 years ago with XO. This takes the silver medal but in the end just couldn't quite keep up with our winner...
1. Dua Lipa – Blow Your Mind (Mwah)
Score: 94
Votes: 16
So it's congratulations to the 2016 winner, Dua Lipa Having broken through with top 20 hit Hotter Than Hell, follow-up Blow Your Mind was unable to match its success, peaking at a disappointing #30. This was not to continue into 2017 however, with 2 top 10 hits & perhaps soon 3 under her belt ahead of her debut album release & a resounding win in this contest to soften the blow of the low peak, things are looking bright for Miss Lipa!
Thank you to all participants in this year's comp, full stats will be posted in the OP at some undetermined point in the future.
Obvious winner really, and a disappointing one at that.
Thanks for this!
Full final results & both Semis edited into first post, over & out.
