Anja - Where I Am

Posted by: Ryan. 25th November 2016, 09:45 PM

Where do we start with poor old Denmark and their silly public voting for bland boybands over life-defining anthems such as "Never Alone", "Suitcase" and "Heart Shaped Hole"? And a shout out to "Wanna Be Loved" too. It's all gone a bit wrong for Denmark since Emmelie blew away the competition in 2013.

DR have finally recognised this though and have made changes to how they select the 10 competing songs:

https://escxtra.com/2016/10/11/dansk-melodi-grand-prix-gets-help-from-fans/

Of course, the easiest way would be to just make sure no boybands make it to the final. We would've had the amazing Anne Gadegaard and Anja Nissen if they'd done this before!!! I'd like to see Anja back again this year. Emmelie de Forest has been doing a LOT of songwriting camps, some seemingly with the British selection in mind - but perhaps she fancies a comeback for herself too?

The 10 artists competing in Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2017 will be announced this Thursday, but it's already been revealed that all 10 acts are soloists :')

Posted by: Izetta 16th January 2017, 07:00 PM

Welp, guess we're due a turn from the bland boyband solo singer then.

Posted by: LexC 16th January 2017, 07:59 PM

Well that's something I suppose. I vaguely remember seeing rumors that Anja Nissen was gonna make a second attempt at this but they seem to have fizzled out so maybe that was bull.

Posted by: Ryan. 17th January 2017, 06:41 PM

I read that as soon as Anja lost last year that she wanted to come back and try again so I'm sure she'll be back at some point. Maybe this year will be too soon, but I'm sure she'll be back at some point!

Posted by: LexC 18th January 2017, 01:36 PM

One of the most recent rumors for DMGP is the (other) Scandinavian breakout star of last year's X Factor...Sada Vidoo

Posted by: Ryan. 18th January 2017, 01:42 PM

Anja Nissen is said to be back after all as well cheer.gif

Posted by: Liаm 18th January 2017, 02:36 PM

YAAAAAAASSS, back with a vengeance please to win this time!

Great to see Anja Nissen back and excited for Sada Vidoo as well, I've got a good feeling about Denmark this year.

Posted by: Ryan. 19th January 2017, 12:53 PM

Calling Mercury is a duo so DR (the broadcaster) LIED and they will probably WIN seeing as they are nearly a boyband!!!1

That is apparently the running order too, Anja's position doesn't look great initially but then you realise she is sandwiched in the middle of all the male acts so she should stand out more so than the run of females that are in the last few positions.

I always love DMGP, my favourite just usually finishes 2nd except for Emmelie and Soluna in recent years. Hopefully we can have a turnaround this year!

Posted by: Ryan. 19th January 2017, 12:56 PM

Oh Rikke is a female too it seems heehee.gif

Posted by: Danuary 19th January 2017, 12:57 PM

Omg can we have Sada Vidoo win Eurovision to prove the X Factor judges wrong for kicking her off at boot camp???

Posted by: Liаm 19th January 2017, 01:57 PM

Fabulous to see Anja and Sada ohmy.gif Both fabulous talent show alumni with dynamite voices and Sada especially is sure to put on a show.

Posted by: Cameron 19th January 2017, 02:56 PM

Gutted not to see Simone this year sad.gif I adore her voice

Posted by: AdamAloud 19th January 2017, 04:59 PM

5 'superfans' will have https://www.eurovisionary.com/dr-change-national-final-voting-5-fans-decide-50/, the rest coming from the televote.

Posted by: Conderella 19th January 2017, 05:37 PM

If they are indeed the superfans then the gay vote will be very prominent this year. Yay!

Too bad they will probably have to put females in this tho. I have yet to know a girl who didn't ruin watching ESC for me but then again I'm always the only superfan in any room I am in.

SADA VIDOO w00t.gif

Posted by: Ryan. 20th February 2017, 12:26 AM

I've listened to the entries at varying lengths and have come up with a clear superfinal prediction of René, Sada and Anja (finishing in that order). Thomas and Jeanette are most likely to spring a surprise, but that top 3 sounds about right to me!

I'd personally favour Sada if she can bring it on stage, but not sure Denmark will go for her enough to win a superfinal.

Entries should be on YouTube tomorrow but are already on Spotify!

Posted by: Qassändra 20th February 2017, 12:45 AM

Is that on UK Spotify? I couldn't find it on my searches...

Posted by: Alpha. 20th February 2017, 12:51 AM

No, the album's definitely on Spotify but it's not yet available in the UK

Posted by: LexC 20th February 2017, 01:17 AM

Aye, they are all on UK Spotify now, you might have to log out and then back in again to make them playable if they're not available yet.

Posted by: LexC 20th February 2017, 01:24 AM

Failing that, if you ask really nicely and drop something in my box then I could be convinced to send over the m4a files that Ryan sent me.

Posted by: Liаm 20th February 2017, 07:09 PM

I'm inclined to say that if Never Alone couldn't win, Where I Am definitely won't. It's good but nothing special whereas Never Alone I genuinely believe would've been a winning contender. I think Sada could smash in Kyiv, I'm already impressed by the song but of course given the act she is the staging and performance will really impact and sell it as well, so fingers crossed she can do this! Ida's song is quite good too, but I really want Sada wub.gif

Posted by: gooddelta 21st February 2017, 04:29 PM

I'm not sure what to make of this selection. My favourite based on the studio versions is A.S.A.P., thanks to the strings and the Fever-era Kylie production.

Sada's sounds strong, but I'm sure it'll come to life even more with the live performance.

I also liked Ida Una's song and Anja's was good...but also a bit Eternal circa 1996.

So basically most of my faves are songs that sound like they could have been releaded 20 years ago! Some of the others are more relevant/contemporary sounding but in all honesty flew right over my head on the first listen.

Posted by: Lee_J11 21st February 2017, 06:03 PM

Sada MUST win wub.gif

Posted by: ScottyEm 21st February 2017, 06:40 PM

Sada sounds like it's trying to be a lot of things yet not quite pulling any of them off fully. That said, as a package, it's fairly impressive (or, in the case of Denmark, a revolution).

Posted by: PAJ88 22nd February 2017, 02:46 AM

Does anyone know if all of these will be available on iTunes?
In particular Anja, Sada, Ida & Jeanette.

Posted by: Ryan. 22nd February 2017, 11:38 PM

Sada says hers will be internationally released the day after DMGP, perhaps the rest will be the same!

Ida slightly passed me by, but she seems to be becoming a clear-ish favourite now. I really really like the song, but it doesn't seem like the sort of thing that will stand out from the first slot when Jeanette has something similar (but weaker) right at the end.

I also didn't pick up on Anthony, I think he could be the one if René isn't. Very Basim and I like this song too, except for the cringeworthy talking intro! I imagine it's going to be two girls and a guy in the superfinal, I imagine the girls will split each other's vote leading to the guy (Anthony or René) winning.

Posted by: LexC 23rd February 2017, 12:11 AM

Word is that it's a four song superfinal this year. Not sure what/how that changes stuff but I'd imagine it wouldn't change anything massively.

TOMORROW'S NATIONAL FINAL...
DENMARK

Dansk Melodi Grand Prix

25th February 2017
Begins at 7pm in the UK or 8pm Central European Time and in Denmark.
Programme is scheduled to last 2 hours.

Watch the selection via the http://www.dr.dk/event/melodigrandprix.

Running order
01. Ida Una - One
02. Thomas Ring - Vesterbro
03. Rikke Skytte - Color My World
04. Anja - Where I Am
05. Calling Mercury - Big Little Lies
06. Anthony - Smoke In My Eyes
07. René Machon - Warriors
08. Sada Vidoo - Northern Lights
09. Jeanette Bonde - Hurricance
10. Johanna Beijbom - A.S.A.P.

Voting format
There will be two rounds of voting. Both will be decided 50/50 by a public televote and a jury consisting of five Danish Eurovision fans. While unconfirmed, it is believed that the top 4 songs will progress to the superfinal and in the superfinal, the 50 televoting points will be distributed proportionally whereas the jury members will give 10 points each to their favourite song only. Therefore, if four or five jury members favour the same song, you would imagine the televote won't be able to overrule them.

The favourites to win
At Unibet, Ida Una is very slight favourite on odds of 5/4 with Sada Vidoo close behind on 7/4. Also in with a chance are Anja (6/1), Anthony (10/1) and Johanna Beijbom (10/1). The other five are significantly behind.

QUOTE(Ryan. @ Feb 13 2016, 12:59 AM) *
And one more thing, here are the results from the dress rehearsal audience poll that has correctly predicted the winner and second place in the televoting in the past 2 years:

Lighthouse X - 48.7 %
Anja Nissen - 21.5 %
Bracelet - 11.5 %
Sophia Nohr - 7.4 %
David Jay - 2.9 %
Simone - 2.3 %
Muri & Mario - 2.3 %
Jessica - 1.7 %
Veronicas Illusion 1.1 %
Kristel Lisberg - 0.7 %

(349 people were polled, representing about 15-20% of the dress rehearsal audience.)

I didn't see that one coming! kink.gif

Any idea if there's a 2017 version of this somewhere Ryan?

Posted by: Ryan. 25th February 2017, 01:09 PM

I looked for one last night and didn't find one, not sure if one emerged this morning or not

Posted by: LexC 25th February 2017, 02:28 PM

That'd be because the dress rehearsal was in the afternoon this year it seems.

Posted by: Ryan. 25th February 2017, 08:10 PM

I think Anja was the stand-out performance here yet again, I think she as an artist is just of a higher calibre than everyone else and she can elevate any song. She's certainly in the superfinal, the other two (or three) spots are fairly wide open though!

If I was pushed I'd say Sada, Anthony and Jeanette if there are three more spots. If only two then Sada may miss out I think!

Posted by: Ryan. 25th February 2017, 08:26 PM

The fan jury have done their job and sorted out an all-female superfinal, consisting of Ida Una, Johanna Beijbom and Anja!

Surprising choices there, Anja really deserves this even if Ida probably has my favourite song.

Posted by: Liаm 25th February 2017, 08:38 PM

I'd give this to Anja then, let her have her moment laugh.gif Ida Una's song is good too though, if I'm honest icr Johanna's rotf.gif

Posted by: Ryan. 25th February 2017, 08:46 PM

All three are better than their last two entries, I think Anja is a solid qualifier in Kyiv, Ida is borderline due to vocals and Johanna is likely DNQ due to vocals and dated song.

Posted by: Conderella 25th February 2017, 08:47 PM

omg I LOVED this. it's so gay and the lyrics are amazing.

it must win *.*

Posted by: Conderella 25th February 2017, 08:47 PM

Johanna that is OF COURSE

Posted by: Ryan. 25th February 2017, 09:00 PM

Anja wins in a 64% landslide, fully deserved!

Posted by: Conderella 25th February 2017, 09:01 PM

it does feel like a danish entry, let's just say that

Posted by: Qassändra 25th February 2017, 09:04 PM

This is infinitely more interesting than the average Danish entry. The production is brilliant! What a glorious little 90s throwback.

Posted by: PAJ88 25th February 2017, 09:05 PM

Yes! So happy this won!!

Posted by: LexC 25th February 2017, 09:07 PM

The gorgeous melody, the heights she can take it to with her VOX and the fact that I'd peg this as a midtempo rather than a straight up ballad means I reckon Denmark are in play for a decent result with this. Brava!

Posted by: buzz_person 25th February 2017, 09:15 PM

Yayyy! I am happy that Anja won!!!

Posted by: gooddelta 25th February 2017, 09:16 PM

Good choice! I still think this is very Eternal circa 1996, but it's a great song and she deserves a chance at Eurovision!

Posted by: Ryan. 25th February 2017, 09:41 PM

Agree that this feels very late 90s, early 00s but it's refreshing to have such a strong melody and you can't deny Anja's consistently sensational vocals! Wasn't my favourite song (but was in my top 3), but was easily the best overall performance of the night.

I still wish we'd have got to see Never Alone on a Eurovision stage, but I imagine this victory is even more special to Anja considering this is her own song rather than Emmelie's reject. Anja wrote this song 3 years ago, fun fact! magic.gif

Posted by: ScottyEm 25th February 2017, 11:06 PM

Hmmm a 3rd consecutive DNQ for Denmark? It's very bland.

Posted by: Liаm 26th February 2017, 11:25 AM

I've loved Anja since she was on The Voice in Aus, so I can't grumble at her win wub.gif I preferred Sada's song but Anja's vocals are just dynamite, she is such a reliable performer. I also agree the song will stand out being a mid-tempo and a nice little throwback, rather than the typical Eurovision ballad, so I definitely think Denmark will do better than the last two years!

Posted by: Iz~ 27th February 2017, 02:10 PM

I am so surprised at this, a lovely little pop song, I didn't think Denmark had it in them after the last few years - best entry from them since 2011. I can definitely see this in a midtable position in the final in May.

Posted by: PAJ88 28th February 2017, 05:26 AM

So all of these are now on iTunes Australia, all except Ida Una - One.

Strange.

Posted by: Cameron 3rd March 2017, 09:36 PM

This gets better and better with each listen

All up now. The Danish entrants this year were good.

Posted by: VVIP 28th April 2017, 04:28 PM

Absolutely obsessed with this track since hearing it for the first time last night. I really think it could do very well.

Posted by: ScottyEm 28th April 2017, 11:43 PM

I'm a little bemused as to why this is considered a shoe-in for the final. She has a knock-out vocal, but it's extremely generic and lacking in any sort of hook. I think it might edge into the final though, will be saved by the jury.

Posted by: Umi 29th April 2017, 03:09 PM

I can understand not liking it but it's clearly got a hook. It won the final for a reason at the end of the day.

Posted by: Liаm 29th April 2017, 03:22 PM

It has a really strong 90s melody which is its biggest strength, I keep coming back to it for that wub.gif It's not the most dynamic or exciting song of the year but it nails that 90s R&B sound which is something you don't hear in Eurovision and she's certainly an amazing vocalist so I'll be gutted if she doesn't qualify, I think she will though.

Posted by: ScottyEm 29th April 2017, 07:35 PM

Oh I think she'll qualify and I don't particularly dislike the song, im just cant see this sticking out much.
