59p
The Script - Rain Sigala - Came Here For Love Jonas Blue - Mama ---- Shocked and gutted New Rules isn't 59p.
Posted by: Liаm 3rd August 2017, 11:05 PM
Ffs not New Rules? Rain is awful that better not leapfrog Dua.
Posted by: JosephStyles 3rd August 2017, 11:08 PM
I'm not surprised New Rules isn't 59p, it's doing amazingly well without it!
Posted by: cq(uavo)merqn 3rd August 2017, 11:08 PM
Mama clearly at 59p to avoid ACR
Posted by: White Mustang 3rd August 2017, 11:10 PM
I think New Rules will be 59p next week.
Posted by: omrimayo 3rd August 2017, 11:19 PM
Rain will top iTunes soon u think, sad for Dua not getting discount, hoping for next week. Rain got it really really fast.

Why would her label reduce New Rules and miss out on potential revenue? It is doing incredible without it and it's still growing

Neon Blue is up to 73, which isn't bad for a remix of an album track.
Posted by: pippa 4th August 2017, 02:27 PM
That is a great jump for Neon Blue by Steps as it was at number 425. If only they had promotion lined up it may have had a slight chance of a low top 100 entry.

I've heard Havana and sounds like a Rihanna song, Crying in the club was a rip off of Genie in a bottle - so does OMG rip off a successful female artist too?
Posted by: danG 4th August 2017, 02:46 PM
OMG sounds very much like urban Rihanna. She may as well imitate from the best though.

So the third set of songs to be released should be Britney inspired 😂
Posted by: RobBob 4th August 2017, 03:04 PM
Havana sounds more like Selena Gomez to me, but yes, seeing very little individuality from her as an artist. Just an average imitation of what other artists are doing and often doing better.
Posted by: Ryan. 4th August 2017, 03:13 PM
I get the lack of artistic identity comments for Crying in the Club and OMG, but I'm not sure I can imagine anyone else other than Camila singing Havana. The song obviously takes musical influences from her Cuban roots and her hometown of Havana, and it uses some instrumentation towards the end of the song that reminds me of ska-type music, a genre that originated in the Caribbean. I'm not going to pretend to know anything about ska/reggae/2 tone music but it feels like they do influence this song to me.
Even just the lyrics make it only a song Camila could do, but I can't say I've heard a song using the instrumentation Havana does for a long long time and that's because the majority of other artists don't have Caribbean roots, I can only think of Rihanna.
On the topic of the two singles, Havana has definitely had the better reaction - it was ahead in all major territories last night. Only now OMG is in Hot Songs is it beginning to reverse and that's a shame. At least they've seen sense and are pushing Havana on Spotify, but OMG is higher on the majority of other NMF playlists around Europe.

Interesting that Rain has stalled now, despite getting the added 59p promo as I thought it'd rocket into the top 3. It seems that the fact it has lost exposure from being on the first column of Hot Songs has negated any added effect, something that Enrique has completely made the most of now he's there instead.

Its about time progressive house came back to the itunes chart!
142. Jaded - In The Morning .
I assume this is back because of being played on Radio 1 Greg James Dance Anthems apparently. Needs to be added to the daytime playlist soon, hoping it can be a bit like Icarus - King Kong in being added at a late stage to the R1 playlist.

"Bounce", "Feel So Close" and particularly "How Deep Is Your Love" would have made great number 1s

Still annoyed that 'Drag Me Down' and 'Marvin Gaye' of all songs blocked 'How Deep Is Your Love' from #1. And I bet if we had fully transitioned to the OA/OS by then 'Marvin Gaye' wouldn't have gone anywhere near #1 so 'Deep' would have made it following 1D's dive (and stayed there for 3 weeks).

Completely agree. It didn't take long for "Marvin Gaye" to show itself as some wet, cheesy, dreery blah to me!

No waay did Marvin Gaye get to no.1!! Beaautiful song that buzzjack took a dislike to.
Hat Calvin one was one of his worst, just like Feels. I have no desre to listen to fish catching music - I am not a fisherman!!!!
It is too bad anyway, even if I wanted to listen to fishy music whilst reading Old Man and the Sea.
Come on Demiiii!! Weavesnatchin BOP of the summer!! Waay better than Despacito or Enrique but sheep like what the wolves tell them to like.
Posted by: Steve201 5th August 2017, 12:25 PM
Marvin Gaye got to no1 as it appeals to a broader audience than a dance track by Calvin - songs like that always peak at 2 but are bigger overall!!
How many no1s has Calvin had now? If even a few of the no2s peaked a place higher he would be nearly in double figures - wow!
Posted by: MoistSummerFruit 5th August 2017, 12:27 PM

I genuinely thought Katy Perry in Feels sung 'Don't be afraid to catch fish' originally! Just thought it was a quirky line of lyrics to fit with the quirky song! I still wish it was 'fish' she was referring to rather than 'feels' though!

The Fiat advert certainly helped it - I think it was highly trending before its actual release. Annoyingly one of those songs that is fairly regularly requested when DJing :/

Amazing to see Real Life climbing again, maybe it can actually make top 40 this week
Hopefully this and Tom Zanetti/Karen Harding's More and More can become official top 10 hits this year so we can have some dance songs doing well in the charts that aren't tropical house/future bass. Also would like to see High Contrast - The Beat Don't Feel The Same go top 40 officially, but this is unlikely.
Dismayed to see that not great (imo) James Hype and Kelli Leigh sped up cover version of More Than Friends near the itunes top 40. Why couldn't Kelli Leigh's much better song with Watermat, Won't Stop had the itunes success?
Jaded - In The Morning seems to back on the rise too up to #125. This needs Radio 1 playlist/iTunes Hot Songs adding!

I'm not sure what her husband is trying to achieve here? No media outlet has passed comment on it and he's just ultimately wasting a load of money as nothing is happening officially.
He's obviously trickle buying more than a thousand copies every week at the moment, so why not just abandon the current pointless strategy and do a bulk purchase Sunday afternoon to ensure it goes top 10 for a bit and then the Big Top 40 show would have to play it, giving her a valuable radio play and maybe creating a bit more sensation, rather than it going completely unnoticed.
She keeps tweeting about 'climbing the charts' (sales chart that is) but I don't see how she can genuinely get any joy out of this, when nobody is actually buying the song to listen to it and she knows exactly what's going on.
Posted by: Lenny 7th August 2017, 10:59 AM
Again I ask, where is the proof this is happening? I keep reading this speculation here unless I'm missing something.

The problem is that the song isn't that great just a poppy version of the big room house style (in other words a bit like Neon Jungle - Braveheart in terms of style but not as good). I wish she would go 00s style eurodance with her next release, I am sure that nostalgic sound would get more people interested than than the style of Make Me Feel.
If the theories on here are right about the bulk buying, then targeting streaming rather than itunes, such as paying to get on the big streaming site playlists would be more effective I would think and probably cheaper too!

Yeah another thing doesn't make sense with the theory, if itunes chart manipulating bulk buying is taking place then why hasn't her husband arranged for the song to be made 59p?

21. Kamaliya - Make Me Feel
Posted by: gooddelta 7th August 2017, 11:26 AM
There's no proof but it's pretty obvious that some manipulation is happening here. Nobody has heard of the woman or the track yet she has been charting for weeks with a song that has just gone over 1,000 plays on Spotify. It's also been #1 on Ireland iTunes and her album is #5 there!
There were also reports last year of her husband bankrolling her career with a £20m cash injection, so he's not going to care how much it costs to hype her into the charts, it would only cost him a few thousand pounds but he'd have to do it discreetly, and have a large street team downloading it (which may well be happening), otherwise the OCC would see all the sales coming from the same IP address.
There's no logical explanation I can see for this other than arranged bulk buying, but if it turns out these are all legit sales then good on her, I'd love to know where her fanbase are! Every time she tweets she also gets lots of retweets and likes but never any replies, which I find quite bizarre too for a popstar with a supposed fanbase that keep buying her records that aren't played or promoted anywhere

It'd be interesting to know how he's doing it. I don't think it's even possible to pay for a download on iTunes more than once - it would tell you you already have it. So is he creating thousands of new accounts with different credit card numbers? But how?

I was thinking it must be a street team of some sort, with 1,000 or so people being paid to download the track every couple of days. But like you say, this would only be valid for one sale per account so it would have to be one hell of a huge team. It's genuinely bizarre, I have no idea how it's happening but would love to know - if it made the official chart there might be enough public interest for a Music Week reporter to look further into it, but she's got no chance of that short of being top 10 on iTunes all week.

Omg at her still being high-ish!!!! I'd love to see how they do it too, ik in the past (I rememebr a song from the 90s mentioned on here that was looking to be a huge hit, got excluded because of suspected bulk sales but it turns out it was false and when the song was actually released again later it peaked low top 40 I think) there's been instances but ofc as you say we're not going to hear anything from Music Week unless she charts which in this climate isn't going to happen, so we'll have to keep scratching our heads

Probably one of two ways: Gifting the song on iTunes or handing out pre-paid vouchers.
I'm not sure what the rules are about when gifted songs are counted, at purchase or redemption. Vouchers obviously would count at redemption.

There was a case like this in The Netherlands a while ago as well. An artist called B-Yentl was never played on radio, never did any promo but somehow managed to rack up a #8 peaking song that stayed in the chart for 67 weeks. She has 13 top 10 hits :/
We kept track of the songs and her updates were so sketchy, They always went bright green at a certain time

It's literally everywhere in Ibiza. I'm just hoping that it gets added to more Spotify playlists. I'm guessing it's in a similar situation to Solardo 'Tribsemen', I expected it to explode because I heard it everywhere but somehow It never impacted the charts.

Yeah but I'd like to think that they'll pull out all the stops for the #1. Funny really as the success of this song is completely unexpected. I doubt her label thought it'd be much more than a top 20.
Posted by: Lenny 7th August 2017, 11:06 PM
Making "New Rules" 59p will gain some sales but not enough for number 1 overall. Streaming is still massively key.
Posted by: Dexton 7th August 2017, 11:17 PM
Good thing is though that New Rules is safe from ACR from a while, whereas Despacito, Wild Thoughts, Feels, and Unforgettable are suffering/will likely suffer soon and move down the charts. Even if Dua can't get to #1 by her own merit via downloads and streaming there's still all the chance that she'll get pushed up (similar to how Wild Thoughts became #1). The Script is doing better on sales but there's no way in he'll Rain will go Top 5 (or even Top 10) in streaming. Sun Comes Up is Duas only real competition at the moment but I doubt it'll outpeak New Rules.

This thread is like being in The Saturday's forum where we used to discuss that their single needs to be discounted asap. If 'SUBEME LA RADIO' is discounted to 59p then I'm sure that should manage to be the next number one, incredibly surprised to see Matt Terry looking likely of getting another top five hit! I heard it for the first time today and surprisingly loved it.

It's hard to call Avicii's success at this point, because we don't know if any song will be pushed as a single instantly, and if one is picked, which one it'll be. The Rita song could gain some traction I guess! I wouldn't expect massive things just yet though, I'm not sure he's quite *that* big a name to debut too high (but maybe I'll be wrong, time/amount of support will tell!)

Little Mix would not record something so bland. They'd inject a bit of personality into it. But then again if Little Mix or another girl band was to record 'Rain' it wouldn't be anywhere near #1 (I think it'd actually be considered "career suicide" if it was Little Mix)... The Script are just lucky they're males tbh.

I'm not a fan of the Script song but my point is that quality is objective and it's highly offensive to suggest it's no1 simply because it's by a male artist even if genders are treated different or by differing standards, that's not The Scripts fault!
Posted by: blacksquare 10th August 2017, 03:38 PM

Sure

Posted by: T Boy 10th August 2017, 03:47 PM
I think it's a bit much to claim that male domination in the charts is some sort of social agenda against women. In the 00s there were a few periods where females truly dominated and we went weeks without seeing a man at the top. This is just the way things go. Little Mix don't seem to be very held back by anything and I fully expect to see them at no.1 again this Autumn when they launch a new album. Pink seems to be doing well initially. Adele would easily be successful if she released a new single next week. Taylor Swift will be huge, Beyoncé would have a string of long running hits if she was on Spotify, ditto Rihanna. Heck, even Dua Lipa is being talked about as a potential no.1. I really don't think it's healthy to be separating everyone by gender or making outlandish comments about the general public's music taste being sexist.

This was all started off by a complete idiot making a mindless sweeping generalisation that we'd (Buzzjack as a collective whole) be lapping it up if it was by a female act (like Little Mix). I for one can quite confidently say I wouldn't.

Posted by: Dexton 10th August 2017, 03:59 PM
Not to push anyone's buttons, but...
Male artists have generally "dominated" the chart this year simply due to a lack of female competition. Or at least good quality female competition. Lady Gaga, Fifth Harmony, and Katy Perry have all had several hit songs before this year yet their comebacks were either too trend chasing, too repetitive, or too crappy. Little Mix, Maggie Linndemann, and Rita Ora have done well but none of their songs were particularly outstanding or groundbreaking. Zara Larsson had a #1 song though so it's not like female acts have been completely ignored so far this year.
I'm not saying that female artists can't make good songs anymore, there just wasn't a great influx of them earlier this year. Hopefully now with Dua Lipa slaying, Pink returning with a brilliant song, and a Taylor Swift comeback on the horizon, female acts will start to pick up steam in Q3/Q4

I maybe should have had the gumption to ignore it as it may have been said in a particular way but as a male I think it's a nonsense comment - T Boy articulated my view so much better than I could tho!

If Carly sang it it would be an outstanding song.
Posted by: Liаm 10th August 2017, 04:02 PM
It's not gender or the act, it's just the public being lazy and lapping up an easy hit similar to Shape Of You rather than broadening their horizons and listening to something different or branching out. It's getting ridiciulous now, Shape Of You and Chainsmokers clones flood the charts because they're what radio and Spotify feed the masses. Each to their own of course but it's getting ridiculous that absolute shit like Despacito can be #1 for months on end, and anything that pertains to a certain trend is an automatic top 10.

I know, but that's not my point
I meant that I find the Script song really lazy and really MOR (trying to avoid the word "bland" because I understand that's my own opinion haha) and I honestly couldn't see any of the big pop girls that are around atm being able to get a hit with it beyond it's initial "hype" boost. I feel like (especially nowadays) female popstars have to work much harder to get hits and if they ended up doing a song as empty or as MOR as 'Rain' they'd be considered a joke and it'd be "career suicide" and radio wouldn't go near it as much as they have done with The Script.
Obviously this is all just my own opinion and I understand we go through stages and phases in the charts!
Also, I don't mind The Script usually and I have their first two albums, so I'm not "a random hater" haha.

Just heard the Pink song. It's so dull and repetitive.

QUOTE(Jonjo @ Aug 10 2017, 05:05 PM)
I know, but that's not my point
I meant that I find the Script song really lazy and really MOR (trying to avoid the word "bland" because I understand that's my own opinion haha) and I honestly couldn't see any of the big pop girls that are around atm being able to get a hit with it beyond it's initial "hype" boost. I feel like (especially nowadays) female popstars have to work much harder to get hits and if they ended up doing a song as empty or as MOR as 'Rain' they'd be considered a joke and it'd be "career suicide" and radio wouldn't go near it as much as they have done with The Script.

Oh I get your point. The Script song is DREADFUL, and this is from someone who, not exactly a fan, but never minded them previously. But this is a music style certain people like and not one where there is ever a female equivalent.
Still, Pink showing all the girls how it's done

Maybe there should be a random q. Dunno.
On topic tho: who else broke through 17 years ago and is still performing well. Craig David springs to mind but he's never been as consistently successful as Pink.

Technically Sia although she had one hit in 2000 then not much until Titanium apart from Breathe Me getting to like #96 It's astounding how Pink is still getting consistent hits nearly 20 years on!

Loving the P!nk song (not that I wouldn't) and I'm both shocked and delighted to see it at No. 1 so quickly it would be amazing if she could somehow get another official #1 with it! Hopefully she's got some good promo lined up, obviously she's headlining V and there's a chance R1 could give it an insta-add tomorrow...

Of course it means something, iTunes still has a pretty big impact on the charts even if Spotify is just as important if not slightly more now.

rough predictions
05 | P!nk - What About Us 30 | Liam Gallagher - For What It's Worth 50(?) | Matoma & The Vamps - Staying Up 101+ | Avicii - Lonely Together (feat. Rita Ora) 70 | Avicii - Without You (feat. Sandro Cavazza) 80 | Fifth Harmony - Angel 80 | Stefflon Don & French Montana - Hurtin' Me 90(?) | Ella Eyre - Ego (feat. Ty Dolla $ign)
questioning the ones that haven't come out yet, think The Vamps have enough of a fanbase to go top 50 though and Ella Eyre will have a half decent start

It doesn't look unreasonable at all tbh! Power is surely on its way out anyway, and providing it doesn't increase this week, Mama will be onto ACR next week. Sales in general are quite low on both Spotify and iTunes so hopefully P!nk, The Script and Louis can take advantage of this

I've said it before but P!nk being underappreciated/overlooked has actually helped her to have consistent success as there's less pressure on the need to succeed. Take Katy/Lady Gaga as examples, there was so much focus on them that it meant that one wrong move really harmed/is harming their careers.

It really does. I mean, I know sales are a lot less than they use to be, but it can really give some songs an edge, Power went from #10 to #6 for example, Symphony managed to sneak in at #1, Rita Ora had much better longevity,
