The Eurovision Song Contest 2017 is well underway and after the bloodbath of the first semi final, it's time to pray for your faves! Australia and Azerbaijan maintained their 100% qualification records, with Greece, Moldova and Portugal returning to the final. Another 18 countries will take to the stage for the last 10 spots in Saturday's final. You can vote if you're in one of the competing countries, as well as Germany, France and Ukraine.

Some songs here are awful to the max. Easy to say which are NOT going to qualify (Hi San Marino and Ireland)

This is, IMO, the hardest semi to predict. I think this is where televotes and juries will be very divided. In an ideal world, I want music to be the winner (hi Macedonia) and ear raping dirge (bye Croatia and Ireland) to jog on. There's also lots of fighting for the beige title. This isn't a great semi, it really is a proper shit sandwich.

Ticket sales have been so low for this that standing fan-zone and hundreds of seated tickets have been reduced to €17. I'd buy one but I don't arrive in Kiev until Friday morning!

This semi is excellent, Malta, Lithuania and Hungary are the only three I don't really take anything from. I am so hyped to see Romania and Croatia.

I'm a huge fan of Estonia's this year, would be proper gutted if that didn't make it through, but it seems quite popular so would have to be a shock for it not to.
Romania, Moldova and Netherlands would all be welcome too.

I hope I'm wrong and Timebelle get through, my main two faves of Anja and OG3NE from this semi look among the safest thankfully *.* I am sure something like Malta or Lithuania will randomly Q and f*** over more faves though knowing Eurovision, but that's part of the fun

Only songs I'm sure are out are Malta and San Marino, I'm 90% sure Ireland is out but I'm ready for Europe to disappoint me. Wouldn't be surprised to see Macedonia, Hungary or Switzerland in place of one of these and I'm not allowing myself to hope for Croatia, if it gets in it will be making my evening but I've made my peace with it being left behind. I actually thought Austria were a likely non-qualifier but after seeing Cyprus go through I'm feeling like the power of being a guy with an upbeat track will have him be fine.

Am I right in thinking that only 3 of the qualifiers will be in the second half of the final, and the rest will all be in the first half? Almost seems a bit unfair if that's the case...

I dont think running order will matter so much this year as all the faves pretty much seem to be first half, I suppose if Bulgaria end up with a late slot it may tip in their favour.

Notes:
~The First three songs in a semi have never all qualified so, unless the curse is broken, work on the assumption that at least one of Serbia, Austria and Macedonia will fall short of the mark
~Who the jury vote goes for in this one will be crucial to a lot of these song's chances. I think there's a pretty clear Bulgaria-Netherlands-Denmark top three with the juries but beyond that it really is anyone's game. I wouldn't be that surprised if Croatia manage to push up into the top 5 with the juries just for the technical skill of being able to sing the song in two types of vocal ranges.
~There is both a high Balkan/ex-Yugo contingent and a lot of countries with big Russian speaking minorities or diaspora communities (Ukrain's AQ vote is in this semi plus there's Estonia, Lithuania, Israel, Belarus, Bulgaria and even some of the inland balkans like Serbia and Hungary) so best to keep that in mind when the results come in. That said it's unusual for, say, all of the ex-soviets or ex-Yugos to go through as generally the bloc votes tend to only majorly swing behind one or two. So that probably means one out of Serbia/Macedonia/Croatia is going to bite it.
What it does mean is that there's a big market of friendly votes from the East for Belarus to eat up (especially those that will want something a bit more pacy than Bulgaria) so I am quietly confident that they'll be in.

I hate Croatia, Malta, Norway, Belarus and Lithuania. So, they won't qualify. 
On the other hand, I'm thinking Ireland is not yet out of the game. The song is not that bad imo and this semi-final 2 is weaker than the first one.

If Ireland was going to qualify then Slovenia would have made it through in semi 1. That sort of market is dying off (thank god) and Ireland have literally no one who will give them points for being under the Irish flag.

Yes, but Brendan looks so much better than the Slovenian guy and sometimes beauty makes the difference in Eurovision. Also the Slovenian song is too much 'adult' and the Irish song could appeal to the teen/kids audience. Bulgaria and Ireland will divide the teenage girls vote.

I am LOVING that Valentina is back again to slay Europe with another anthem although it's not quite as *.* as the Social Network Song.
The Europa League semi-final is a 8:05pm kick off so I'll miss this in it's entirety, just going have to avoid spoilers until I can catch up on Friday

LOVING this opening, much better than the opener for Semi 1, not that it's difficult. I love it when these countries bring something that feels very representative of their nation to these shows.

But I definitely think it'll suffer from struggling to translate the vocal effects to a live stage, which made it fall a bit flat, especially along with the lack of staging. But, the song is definitely my favourite so far, a proper bop. 9/10

Norway is a bit of a bop in studio but it's not translating well live, I can see this in like 11th or 12th (mind you I've thought that about like Serbia, Macedonia and Norway so far ).

12 Norway / I wanted the chorus to be a bit bigger than it was, but as a whole, I really enjoyed that performance! I love the Galantis-esque breakdown and the whole vibe of the song was very current and fun and should surely come across fantastically after the bizarre car crashes before it. 8.5/10

It's really great, sounds like a typical 2017 pop anthem but that chorus makes it for me! From what I know about Eurovision it sounds like a hit.

13 Switzerland / Vocally very impressive and one of the most catchy (whilst actually being a good song) tunes so far. The staging and dress leaves a lot to be desired, it wouldn't be what I'd have paired with the song but that aside, definitely one of the strongest of the night. Great chorus. 8.5/10

14 Belarus / I wouldn't say it's a fantastic song but it's definitely good fun and exactly what I'd want to see in the final to switch things up a bit. You can't not look at them and feel happy, it's just got that whole thing running right through it so they've got my support! 8/10

15 Bulgaria / For me, that felt like the most "winner-y" performance I've seen from both semis. I'd heard that track before the semis and it wasn't a favourite of mine but that has really pushed it up my rankings hugely. I love the tone of his voice and the whole thing just felt... epic. Fantastic work. 9/10

Aww that almost went as well as it could have but Austria messed it up at the end, poor Verona but after that performance I was fearing for it.

My god I really had in my head OG3NE were gonna be the shock when it came that late, ffs Eurovision
I'm sad to lose Switzerland, Serbia and Macedonia but I expected all three (well I had Serbia as borderline). Estonia I'd prefer to get through but I expected it after the perf. Losing four of my top 10 wasn't great but I didn't hate the ones that went through at their expense by and large.

HIM. Anyone who hadn't seen the performance before (I think I've only seen it once) surely wasn't expecting to have some 40-something year old man making cringy Blue Steel faces at the camera every 10 seconds, it overshadowed everything else and made the song feel really naff.

This was SUCH a tough semi (I mean like 8 of my top 10 are all from this semi) I was bound to lose a favourite, was expecting it to be Belarus rather than Estonia though! 
Croatia qualifying is a bit annoying but otherwise those 9 were all deserving and I'd have liked another 3 or 4 through as well! Switzerland in particular did enough to challenge for the televote top 10 so the jury performance must have been as bad as was reported after all unfortunately
Lucie's very lucky that most of the female ballads have been disposed of and the three that slipped through the net (Poland, Denmark, Netherlands) are all in the first half.

In general I find this year a bad year as there are few songs I really love. Not bad results considering but I wanted Macedonia to go through. Hungary,Austria and probably Croatia and Denmark are the 3 I wouldn't have put through. This is the first time in years I havnt liked the Danish entry.
Portugal,Romania,Belgium,the Netherlands and Greece would be my top 5.

LeeLo those were the same 4 I'd say were robbed! That's more than Tuesday (just Finland and Iceland) - Norway and Austria I'm shocked at (and Croatia and Belarus if I had to pick another 2 to go out).
Macedonia sounded great on studio but on stage didn't do much for me - but neither did Belgium on Tuesday and that was my 1st until the rehearsals when Salvador took over the top spot and Bulgaria 2nd.
Serbia was always borderline but I can't put my finger on why.
I wouldn't be shocked to see Macedonia withdraw, and even Serbia at this rate - they aren't the guaranteed qualifiers they used to be. I remember in 2013 it being big news that none of the former Yugoslavia qualified for the final - we almost had a repeat. I guess Jacques Houdek is big enough to represent the entire former region though.

Catching up this morning ahead of the main event this evening! I've managed to stay spoiler free so far somehow!
1 - Serbia - 5/10
Eh. My Sky Box wasn't a fan as the recording messed up a bit. Bit bland. (oh edit, it was a BBC sound issue and not just the sky box! Yay!!)
2 - Austria - 7/10
Quite enjoyable!
3 - Macedonia - 7.5/10
Spent far too long trying to work out if that was her actual voice or if some effects were being applied. Feel like this'd be a right BANGER in studio form.
4 - Malta - 7.5/10
More attempts than Queen Sanna. Pleasant but not as good as Undo was obv.
5 - Romania - 9/10
Why the f*** is there canons on the stage?!?! What the f*** Romania/Eurovision???? This is of course utterly fabulous.
6 - The Netherlands - 13/10
Ok that harmony at the start caught my attention. How have I never heard of this lot before???? I AM SO f***ING HERE FOR THE DUTCH SUGABABES!!! What a f***ing flawless bop. Stunning harmonies, great live Vox and a wonderful track. Eurovision 2017 has just redeemed itself.
