I guess it's not necessary to say this, but I can't wait for her debut album to come out.
So hyped for this
Can't wait!
Can't wait for this. Definitely my favourite new artist of the past two years. There's something about her & her voice that just make me love her.
Standard Edition: (12 tracks)
Deluxe Edition: (17 tracks)
Besides the previously four songs, looks like "Blow Your Mind" and "Room for 2" are going to be released as instant grats too.
You guys should check out a girl called MY in the meantime! She's got a really cool style too and gritty voice. Would post a link but can't yet as I'm new!
HIDEOUS artwork! What were they thinking?!
Yeah that's not a good picture of her at all
That is a horrible picture of her! Considering she is actually an attractive girl.

She is so so so so beautiful but she looks like she just got punched here!
She's trying to hard to be your average "tumblr white girl".
has she got a mouthguard in???
It's pretty much exactly the same pose as the Hotter Than Hell artwork so I'm surprised this one is getting such a hard time. It seems perfectly fine to me, stands out nice in my iTunes library anyway with the simplicity of it!
I don't like the Hotter Than Hell artwork either tbf shame because, as said before, she is stunning, this artwork isn't doing her any favours at all though.
I initially thought she had a bit of lettuce in her teeth but it was just a bit of dirt on my screen. Not the best cover ever, but it's nice enough.
this is the thing tho ryan - it's not that different by any means but when you're doing a clooooseup picture, millimetres could make the difference... and the difference of her putting her tongue in the roof of her mouth put it from good to ???!?!?!?
Fair enough but to me she looks just fine even in the close-up!
they really should've swapped the pictures from HTH and this, the hotter than hell cover is GORGEOUS
She looks dead.
Yeah, I can't say I like the 'Hotter Than Hell' cover either, but the difference is that I'm not really going to ever see that one. If I was to buy her album, I'd have that awful cover physically in my hands and, unfortunately, album artwork does have some bearing on whether I'd buy and album or not (unless I'm a die-hard fan of said artist, and Lord knows I've needed to be to buy some of Madonna's albums, hello Hard Candy).
It really surprises me that the artwork of an album can determine whether someone buys an album or not, and this isn't just in response to you Liam but to other people on various forums I've seen say similar things. 99% of the time when I buy an album, I play a CD once and then store it away never to be seen again as the songs will just go onto my iPod. But even so I always think the sole purpose of a CD is to listen to songs and not to be able to look at pretty artwork - unless its a very special type of cover of course like Katy Perry's candy smelling Teenage Dream cover or something. But even then that's only an extra reason to buy, not a reason not to buy.
I do agree, it does seem silly that what an album looks like influences the decision to buy it, since the main purpose of buying an album is to listen to it. I suppose I'm still a keen physical buyer and I like to play it on my record player so I do see the album cover a lot more which perhaps is party why I hold this opinion, plus I'm generally someone who likes things to look nice and neat so I wouldn't want something that's not aesthetically pleasing to spoil my music collection.
I'm the same when I want to buy a compilation album by an artist who has a substantial amount of them released through the years - I'll always try to go for the one that looks nicest, even if it means it doesn't cover all my favourites, which is pretty crazy!
Haha it makes sense! I always used to get irritated when I bought a CD and then the album and artist name on the side of the CD was aligned the wrong way around to 99% of other CDs - I think nearly all face left and then there's the odd few that face right (if that makes sense). I wouldn't go as far as not buying it because of that but I see where you are coming from in terms of having things looking aesthetically pleasing!
This has been delayed now until January 20 2017
Mess
January 2017?! Is her record label taking tips from Stooshe? She might not get another hit between now and then and HTH will be a distant memory.
She hasn't had a hit yet though?
Forgive me... I meant a big hit single. I appreciate HTH is doing well but certainly not enough to put an album out... January sounds sensible to me.
They should've pushed Last Dance instead, it's far better than anything she's released.
For me I'd rank her singles:
1. Hotter Than Hell 10/10
2. Be The One 9.5/10
3. Last Dance 7.5/10
4. New Love 6/10
9.0 Be The One
8.0 Hotter Than Hell
6.0 Last Dance
09.0 Hotter Than Hell
08.0 Be the One
05.0 Last Dance
Be The One - 9
Hotter Than Hell - 8
The only 2 we have in Australia.
09.5 Hotter Than Hell
08.5 Be the One
08.0 New Love
07.5 Last Dance
Album delayed until February 10 according to iTunes Germany.
Stupid, should be out now with the success of HTH!!
I think it *could* work better for her actually, I'm not sure Hotter Than Hell has been quite big enough to sell an album yet. Could be better with a couple more hits under her belt! And she would get swallowed whole in Q4 so I think Jan/Feb is the best time for an album by her, especially as that's the time where new acts get pushed most.
So theres gonna be a 5th single in Sept and then
At least a 6th single next year?
Makes no sense to me
Shows lack of trust in her by the label imho
I'd gone with an Oct release
October is Q4, one of the busiest months of the year for albums, she would be swallowed up and this would debut at like #17. February is a much better time, and to the general public, Hotter Than Hell is the first single anyway so it doesn't make that much of a difference.
She has a new single in Sept
The logic thing would be to follow it up with the album in Oct
Otherwise it means the label doesnt trust you
https://hamadamania.com/2016/07/31/dua-lipa-drafts-lauren-christy-jon-levine-for-new-single-blow-your-mind-mwah/
I don't think it IS logical to release an album by someone who isn't a big name at a time where you need to be a big name to get a good chart position. They may not trust her but it makes more sense commercially.
New album cover! Better than the old one, obviously
SOOOO much better!
Absolutely love that!
love this new one!
I can't see the picture? Like, even when I quote Liam's post there's no link in it to indicate an image is present?
I already know it's better on account that it couldn't be worse though.
I actually prefer the old one which I didn't get the hate for, it was simple yet effective. This one is nice too though, I just think that the way the old one was focused completely on Dua's face was a more "iconic" way of introducing a new artist. I like all Dua's artworks though, they all have a wonderful simplicity and are always striking.
EDIT: Sorry didn't realise how big that was but at least it works!
Smoking!
The music video of "Room For 2" will be premiered soon on Hunger TV.
From https://www.facebook.com/dualipaofficial/videos/1104705396282043/:
Room For 2 is a complete misfire, absolutely awful choice of single :/
It isn't a single, just a song for Hunger Magazine to have a special video for like Cheryl's Ghetto Baby was amongst others. It's a nice album track and shows a different side to her but it wouldn't work as a single.
I actually love Room For 2, it's so different
I like it but it's not single-material.
"Room For 2" (Music Video / Premiered by http://www.hungertv.com/feature/premiere-dua-lipas-video-for-room-for-2/)
That's way more interesting than anything else she's put out (none of which I've particularly liked)
Rumours from German music stores that this could be delayed until May 31st, we shall wait and see!
Not surprised in the slightest. Hopefully they don't actually have 'Be The One' as a re-release and release something new instead.
Good, I don't like her really
I don't think that's true luckily, I mean it may be for Germany but Dua tweeted yesterday that if anything changes you'll "hear it from her" and she hasn't tweeted anything about a delay so I think it should be fine. Be The One is cutting it a bit fine to take back off though Blow Your Mind didn't do that badly, and Hotter Than Hell did really well, but I suppose in this climate you never know how a song will do so it's really hard for new artists to gauge when to release an album.
Be The One's re-release isn't really the best choice of single (as much as it is still her best song) though so it'd be good to go for something else but this is getting ridiculous now. The album is never really going to set the world alight so I don't see the point in holding it back for even longer. If she was to release something else and delay it that would be 6 singles before release
I hope they don't screw up this release but TBH I can't see it doing that well unless she pulls another hit out of the bag? HTH and BYM both went silver but neither feel as though they were big enough to sell the album to the general public and the song with Sean Paul missed the Top 40
She should have released off the back of HTH and then plugged away at promo and getting another hit to support the album - as per above the campaign is over before it's even started with 6 releases.
In all fairness it's a bit too soon to rule out No Lie anyway as things are just starting for it! Be the One hasn't been playlisted by Radio 1 or Capital yet so there's still some time. Pushing the album back to May would be a terrible decision, just chuck it out in Feb as planned, it wouldn't do any better in May?
I feel like they've spent a year trying to make her happen and no one really cares? 'Hotter Than Hell' was a minor hit at best, but I just feel it's not gonna happen no matter what they try.
I'd say top 15 is a pretty decent-sized hit in 2016! I'd agree in general though, they're trying to create buzz around her and it's not really happening.
HTH and BYM were both decent sized hits for a new artist - both seeking 200,000+ and going silver but neither feels like a memorable hit and have been quickly forgotten. The record company know they need a huge smash to get enough interest in the album to get the return on investment they need.
She's my artist of 2016 so I'm gonna need the public to start taking to her more next year
Who does Dua Lipa appeal to anyway? A couple of my friends like her (teen girls) but no one else seems bothered with her. She doesn't seem to have the budding personality like rising stars Zara Larsson and Anne-Marie have.
they're literally Sky Ferreira-ing her. if this album gets pushed back again, it's as good as scrapped and she'll have to go back to the drawing board and come up with a revamped sound.
i know chart positions etc matter in terms of selling but i was shocked to learn 'blow your mind' was only a #30 hit??? i feel like i couldn't avoid that song this year
i do think there is potential with her but just release the album lmfao its not that serious
people have already heard half the album as it is??
I like Room for 2, and they should've pushed Last Dance last year. Hotter than Hell is good but banal.
"Thinking 'Bout You" will be released tomorrow.
It's ok. Not really liking it too much atm, hope it grows like Room For 2 did!
Yeah it's a bit meh
I hate the new song
Is it a single?
this womans management fascinates me. what do they expect her to do? she's clearly not getting the massive hit they want so these delays are really pointless.
In the last days, there were some information that there was an album sampler, which included "New Love", "Be the One", a demo of "Last Dance" and "Bad Together" and it was sent out over a year ago. Anyway, that album sampler leaked and, by default, "Bad Together" is out there. I like it.
The whole campaign is a mess tbh but there seems to be finally some movement on the 2 singles on iTunes
17 No Lie
86 Be The One
HOWLING, this has been pushed back to JUNE 2ND.
Oh god...
!!!!!!!!!!
Omg 😂
If that's the case they should use that time to actually change the album. I would keep Hotter Than Hell, Blow Your Mind & Be the One on there but remove the other tracks that we've heard, maybe keeping a couple of them as bonus tracks. If they're pushing it back, it means they'll be another single before it is released and so there's only four songs that haven't been released. That especially means that they'll be no lifespan for the album beyond its release date.
Its an actual joke the way that this campaign has been handled.
Apparently it's so she can add in some new songs and collaborations
They better have a killer new single to launch the album with then because these delays are getting ridiculous probably for the best I guess as Be the One isn't looking to set the charts alight but still...
All she needed was a bit of promo though. Like I said in the other thread, a performance of Be The One would have opened out her audience loads and probably helped sell the album a huge amount.
They should probably just give up at this point, from a business point of view it is literally pissing money down the sink.
Absolute joke for sure That's over a year after Hotter Than Hell and coming up 10 months after Blow Ya Mind!
I don't see what was wrong with releasing it after Hotter Than Hell, that did really well for a new artist in the streaming era... I know it's a bit uncertain nowadays and albums might not sell bucketloads but they've recorded it, she's put her heart into it, just release it. She might not even get another hit by June, Be The One is moving up quite well on iTunes but I don't think it's doing much on Spotify so has a way to go. I suppose if theyr'e putting "new songs and collaborations" it sounds like gonna try and strike gold with a proven hitmaker perhaps, if they can get someone But it's a risk, I hope that more new artists don't have this fear and do this. Commercially successful debuts were thin on the ground last year, the biggest seller was Bradley Walsh (!!!!), but then album sales in general are falling. If they've made it, they should just have released it alongside one of the hits but I suppose in this day and age when they need time to build it's hard to know when to drop the album but you don't know if it will be a hit I guess :/
I've read rumours that a big Martin Garrix x Dua Lipa is coming, which they're banking on to be a big hit. I have no idea if this is the case.
Lmao another pushback? They really should've released it whilst 'Blow Your Mind' was doing reasonably well.
</3
This is a bit like Samantha Jade's album which ended up missing off a bunch of singles.
!!!!!!
This is like Stooshe - They had a big hit with 'Black Heart' then the follow up faltered which resulted in the album being delayed multiple times, getting track changes, a cover change etc., the full album leaked before release. The album was eventually released and reached #8 and quickly disappeared (As did the bands record deal).
They have removed the 2 instant grat tracks from iTunes but streaming hasn't caught up yet and they are still available on Apple etc.,
I guess the glimmer of hope is 'No Lie' is currently #13 and if it gets the 59p treatment on Friday it could push it Top 10, 'Be The One' is #41 - even if these both become hits it may not be enough to launch the album to record company standards, they are clearly going after huge platinum Top 5 smashes and have high expectations for the album which I doubt will be met regardless of when it's released.
'Hotter Than Hell' went gold and 'Blow Your Mind' silver however as said above when the album is finally released both will be a year + old and forgotten.
Could the album campaign be saved? Looks like 2 big hits are on the way...
13 No Lie
17 Be The One
Both reduced to 59p on Friday could result in a double Top 10 entry!
I knew it was too early to write Be the One off, it's bound to be a-listed on Radio 1 soon and have the 59p treatment. They need to put it on the big Spotify playlists now, which will hopefully be done ASAP because it's clearly got the potential to be bigger than Mwah!
How many times is she gonna change the release date? First 10th February, now 2nd June
Extending the album date even further is a stupid idea tbh.
Radio 1 are going to play the hell out of Be The One.
Be The One is looking to be pretty big for Dua, it just needs a bump to the A list for a week or 2 from Radio 1 and then Hot Hits UK to add it to their playlist to push it.
Seems like holding the album back was a great decision after all - they would have been releasing on the back of Top 15 and Top 30 singles and now potentially will be releasing off the back of two Top 10 hits!
I'd say they got damn lucky rather than made a good decision.
Plus the album is still like half a year away.
The thing is they'll need to bank on her getting another hit to launch the album now. If they pushed it back just a month, they would have had what will presumably be two sizable hits on the go or just gone, which is better than nothing.
'Be The One' would have left the chart by the time the album actually gets released if they're sticking to this date, they must be expecting the Martin Garrix collab to do well and release it off of that.
That's out next week though, even presuming it takes around 2 months to take off like No Lie has, as a feature it's not going to sell the album well even if it was a really big hit. Be The One would have sold the album really well, I know they couldn't have known that she'd be looking at 2 hits when they pushed the album back but it's just typical she has both a feature and a solo hit taking off just after they pushed the album back a long way again
I don't think Dua would sell many albums even if she did get a top 5 hit or two beforehand. She needs an album out there for the singles to promote - perhaps a lower peak but more sales in the long run, for a new pop artist like her she will struggle to sell albums off the buzz of pre-album singles and it seems like she's going to run out of potential post-album singles.
I find that unless they're a well known artist, having hit singles is never really enough for an artist to sell an album without promo. Like I said before, a slot on Graham would sort her out in the album charts (so long as it was a decent performance).
I want to swing on her label. The album just needs to be out already. And I guarantee you they've started scrapping songs to reshape the album again and make up for the push back. How annoying.
'No Lie' and 'Be The One' both reduced to 59p and currently at #12 and #13 on iTunes
Be The One to be another hit for her please
Her album really should've been out by now. She has a few songs out and radio seem to be on board so it seems like an optimum time. Either way, i'm excited for it whenever it comes ~
Can't see Be The One being a big hit officially. By the time streaming picks up its iTunes sales will be much lower I reckon.
Really? It's doing incredibly well and it's not on most of the big Spotify playlists yet. I think it's looking to be big, will certainly outpeak Mwah at the very least...
Big gains for both tracks in today's mids - No Lie #11 and Be The One #22.
Hopefully No Lie will get her a Top 10 hit and it looks as though Be The One will go Top 20 officially at least
Just got into Be The One now! Hope it's a big hit for her
Waiting for Friday release "Scared to be alone" in collab with Martin Garrix.
The fact this has been pushed back to June when she has two songs in the iTunes top 5 is ridiculous.
The label need to pull themselves together.
To be fair they didn't know this would happen a couple of weeks ago, although I think if they looked at it logically Martin Garrix debuted top 10 with Bebe Rexha and the Sean Paul collab was climbing and was probably a safe bet to be a hit. Plus Be The One is such a brilliant song it had to do something surely? They should have had a bit of faith and just pushed it back a little bit to March or April, I agree.
Blow your mind was a hit?
There would be no reason for her to put 'No Lie' on her album. Unless she does a Part 2, it is way too much Sean and not enough Dua to make the tracklist.
Oh mess, I thought it was like a #73 smash 😂😂
I NEED THIS ALBUM NOW. Come ON
Epic collab with Martin Garrix out now - have a feeling this will be huge! Love the surge in relevance that Dua is getting right now
What genre is Be The One - breakbeat? Sounds great anyway.
Really hope they now decide to bring the album forward considering she's currently #4, #5 and #14 on iTunes with 3 different songs!
I'm actually enjoying 'Be The One' now. I didn't care for it at all the first time around.
They seriously need to bring the album forward to capitalize on the sudden surge in interest - She's on course to have 3 Top 20 singles this week and an album release in 2-3 weeks would be perfect (Actually it would have worked if they had just kept with the Feb 10th release date and the singles would have helped keep album sales stable).
She now has 5 hits from the album assuming the tracks with Martin and Sean get included - If she releases another single from the album before its June release date with the instant grat tracks we already have she's practically released the entire album with no further hits to sustain sales #Messy
Another single is on the way and it's going to be fun!
http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/dua-lipa-interview-things-couldnt-be-going-any-better-right-now__18102/
Whoa, I can't believe the album is out in June.. I genuinely thought it was going to be coming sooner, I'm seeing her with her own headline show in April?!
My friend gave the best and most perfect description of her yesterday: "She's a walking BooHoo advert".
Dua has tweeted that Wednesday is the current suggested day for the Thinking 'Bout You video release.
I am glad that Be the One went to No.10, she so deserves a Top 10 hit it's overdue, frankly.
Her chart history is certainly looking a lot more healthier than it was a few weeks ago! Plus 1 X Gold and 2 X Silver singles - Time for the album to slay us all.
#15 Hotter Than Hell
#30 Blow Your Mind (Mwah)
#10 No Lie (Sean Paul feat. Dua Lipa)
#09 Be The One
#14 Scared To Be Lonely (Martin Garrix & Dua Lipa)
The Detsky remix of Be The One is fantastic. Bit gutted it's not on Spotify lol
The album should've been released this month whilst Be The One was at its peak.
I really thought 'Scared To Be Lonely' was going to be a smash but it's gone 23-14-14-16 so far which is decent but I thought it would easily be Top 5. Maybe with 3 songs out it was Dua overload.
Tracklisting: (from https://genius.com/albums/Dua-lipa/Dua-lipa)

16. "Begging Me"
17. "Homesick"
"Want To" and "Running" didn't make the cut.
but no Scared to be Lonely??
Or No Lie?
I think she has enough singles on there. There's only four tracks on the standard that haven't been released!
I will be waiting for Hadji to say "She should have put Scared to be Lonely and No Lie on there"
Personally, I'm glad that "No Lie" and "Scared to Be Lonely" weren't included. I know that she has a co-credit in the latter and it's one of her most streamed songs, besides "Be the One", though.
Anyway, I'm wondering if "IDGAF" is the other track with a collaborator if it's considered that she mentioned that there were two (right?) and "Lost In Your Light" is one of them, which features Miguel.
I wouldn't have put No Lie (doesn't fit imho) but Scared should be in there, as that's a proper hit that has connected with people and is still doing well everywhere in the world
Agreed there's no need to put No Lie on there as she is only a feature and as people say, she has enough singles on there as it is. I do think Scared To Be Lonely could've at least been tagged on the end though purely for the fact she has joint lead credit on that one.
I actually disagree regarding No Lie, I don't think it would've hurt to add it. It's her highest peaking single in some countries. Even if it is just a feature, she's prominent enough on it for it to be passable.
She revealed at her London show that the other collaborator is Chris Martin from Coldplay. (!!!)
From https://twitter.com/Dianna1985/status/852624859511357441:
I saw her last night, and despite never hearing it before, Want To was a huge highlight, and had a great reaction. I don't know why it hasn't made the album at all... much better than Room and Thinking.
I also don't see the harm of adding both No Lie and STBL as deluxe tracks at the end. The more songs people recognise the more likely people will be to want to buy the album as a package.
"Genesis" (Acoustic Version / See In Blue documentary)
wow never expected a duet with chris martin! but why not release it as lead single then?
Aside from it feeling like the first single would have been recorded about six years ago or something by now, I suspect the Chris Martin duet is far more recent in recording after she has had a few hits to her name.
Plus, duets or collaborations with people more famous than the main act are rarely released first from a project, they tend to get the single treatment later on down the life cycle of the album as releasing them first feels almost like admitting that you're not good enough to stand on your own merits...
Standard tracklist according to iTunes NZ:
1 Genesis
2 Lost In Your Light (feat. Miguel)
3 Hotter Than Hell
4 Be the One
5 IDGAF
6 Blow Your Mind (Mwah)
7 Garden
8 No Goodbyes
9 Thinking 'Bout You
10 New Rules
11 Begging
12 Homesick
Deluxe tracklist hasn't updated (yet) but I assume she won't leave off New Love and Last Dance entirely? (and Room For 2)
Room For 2/New Love/Last Dance are all on the deluxe + 2 more songs
(EDIT:
13. Dreams
14. New Love
15. Room For 2
16. Bad Together
17. Last Dance)
I thought you were all talking about Louisa Johnson when you say 'So Good', before realising you meant that Zara monstrosity.
Eeek.
Homesick is stunningly beautiful!
Saw Dua at Radio 1 Big Weekend her set was one of the memorable ones for me, high energy and such a performer. My partner wasn't sure who she was but afterwards said he knew the songs just not her name
How did she not release New Rules?!?!
she's been so dreadfully mismanaged by her a&r to the point it's just not going to happen...'new rules' is exactly the way the whole project should have gone...this is such a lesson of old men working at record labels and not getting how it is in 2017...
WHY in hell was it decided to release Lost In Your Light over New Rules???
I can't even imagine why they decided that??
I haven't forgotten about the utterly sublime #Beautiful. x
Her album is a funny animal. Some good songs but I'd assumed it was delayed because they were gonna stick on more tracks like Be The One and Scared to Be Lonely after the success of those... but nope!
So far liking Genesis.
Just adding in my vote for #Beautiful as a great song too :3 speaking as a non-Mariah fan anyway
I don't even like Mariah but can admit that's a damn good song!
I echo everything which has been said about New Rules. Why that wasn't the next single after the success of BTO is just beyond me :/
Here's how she's doing on iunes -
63. Lost In Your Light (feat. Miguel)
68. Be the One
76. New Rules
227. Blow Your Mind (Mwah)
234. Hotter Than Hell
235. Homesick
466. Genesis
512. No Goodbyes

New Rules has to be one of the biggest missed opportunities in recent memory, Lost In Your Light over that?! I guess it could be post album but there's not much point at this point, it would be single 7 !!
I still think she could get another bit, I think the album will do really well and people just seem to be really receptive of her. I think New Rules would be a rare post album hit tbh!
Will give it a few listens next week but the track list reads like an early Greatest Hits Album.
'New Rules' is in Apple Music's hot songs?
Love this performance! The chorus is alive and her vocals are so goooood <3
She's currently in Miami shooting two music videos. One of them is "My Love", her collaboration with Wale, Major Lazer and WizKid, and the other is presumably to be "New Rules".
it better be.
Ngl, I was pretty underwhelmed on first listen. Nothing stood out to me and the ordering was a complete shambles.
I've since re-ordered mine to match the UK standard edition and it works so much better. It's also all growing on me as a complete package - the singles are obviously all incredible but there are other wonderful moments dotted throughout too.
Officially excited to be seeing her live later this year and so glad the album is doing decently for her!
No shade to LIYL, it's a complete and utter BEAUTY.
Do we think she might get a slot on The X Factor live shows? It'd be the perfect moment for a New Rules performance.
I think she'd definitely be able to bag a slot these days. It might be a bit late for New Rules, though. The live shows don't usually start until around October.
Finally got round to listening to this, all the push-backs kinda killed my hype for this at the time but it is actually a really great record. I think the fact that I had heard so much of it before the release put me off a tad too.
I forgot how much I really loved the singles too. I have hardly returned to them much myself (apart from the majestic Be The One), but they really are such strong pop songs. This album is packed with such strong pop melodies all round for sure.
The album up until 'No Goodbyes' is incredible for me and then it gets a tad more mixed, despite some amazing highlights like 'Garden'. I seem to be on a different wavelength from most though as everyone seems to be stanning for 'New Rules' and 'Begging' when, although they are very strong, they just feel a tad more generic and formulaic for me.
09.0 Genesis
09.5 Last Dance
08.5 Hotter Than Hell
11.0 Be The One
08.0 IDGAF
09.5 Blow My Mind (Mwah)
08.0 New Love
09.0 No Goodbyes
07.5 Thinking 'Bout You
03.5 Room For 2
08.5 Lost In Your Light (feat. Miguel)
08.5 Bad Together
10.0 Garden
04.0 Dreams
07.5 New Rules
07.5 Begging
07.0 Homesick
Yes Davidson stan Garden that is one of my personal favorites I don't think I have seen much love for it so I am glad I am not alone
It's hard to know what extent I like this album to. Obviously the Holy Trinity of 'Hotter Than Hell', 'Blow Your Mind (Mwah)' and 'Be the One' are all incredibly good pop songs, but everything else is lacks that same punch and vary from pretty good to complete bore fests. It doesn't help that the tracking list feels like it's in a total mess; there's just little to no flow between the tracks and I don't feel like I'm being taken on a audible journey.
I like 'Genesis', 'Lost in Your Light', 'Garden', 'New Rules', 'Begging' and 'Room For 2' so, including the three aforementioned singles, that's a good chunk of the album, but when you consider there's 17 tracks in total, that's a lot of songs also left dotted in between the good moments which drags the album down. Maybe I need to re-imagine the tracking list with the songs I like and see if that improves the album as a body of work rather than a load of songs chucked together.
I've been listening to this quite a bit lately, so I feel like doing a rate
07.0 Genesis
07.5 Lost In Your Light This has grown on me quite a bit, but I still don't love it
09.5 Hotter Than Hell
09.0 Be The One
09.0 IDGAF
08.0 Blow Your Mind (Mwah)
08.5 Garden
06.5 No Goodbyes
07.0 Thinking 'Bout You
09.5 New Rules
10.0 Begging I didn't realise how much I liked this
05.0 Homesick
07.5 Dreams
08.5 Room For 2
06.5 New Love
09.0 Bad Together
10.0 Last Dance
Such a strong album tbh
Sounds a lot like Ella Henderson on quite a few tracks, but with better/more 'contemporary' songs.
I like it.
01 Genesis
02 Be The One
03 Hotter Than Hell
04 Blow Your Mind (Mwah)
05 Lost In Your Light
06 Garden
07 Scared To Be Lonely (Joe Mason Remix)
08 New Rules
09 Last Dance
10 Homesick
11 Begging
12 Bad Together
13 No Goodbyes
I think this is a much stronger track listing for the album, it feels much more coherent like this for me but still feels quite varied.
Not including 'Room For 2' is unacceptable
Room for 2 hasn't clicked with me at all yet I'm afraid!
It's lyrics hit close to home for me, so I guess that helps. The chorus is so soothing, I adore it.
The lack of IDGAF is more concerning to me </3 I don't *much* care for Room For 2 either
The success of New Rules makes me wonder if they will get another single out of this album. I would personally love a re-release of Last Dance or Thinking Bout You to be made a single
The only choice for me is Homesick with X Factor performance, at a push I suppose they could do Begging but I think Homesick and then era over.
Last Dance re-release pls
Also so thrilled at New Rules truly SMASHING the charts <3
I'd be happy with a Last Dance re-release <3
I'd want to see Dreams, Bad Together, Genesis or Begging. I don't want another re-release tbh.
Genesis, Bad Together or even IDGAF could be potential singles I think if they really wanted to continue the campaign.
It might be worth trying one more single anyway with a potential #1 on the way.
Last Dance is the only song left that has the potential to smash
This is such a good album! Only listened to it twice a few months apart and there is not one song I dislike. Hopefully we have at least one more single to come as their is still a good few songs that should be picked.
I think this is my album of the year, at first I was like "oh all this wait for that", just because of the 84 pushbacks really, but a lot of the songs were slowburners for me, plus Hotter Than Hell and New Rules are undoubtedly two of the best pop songs of recent years. It's such a fab debut album, she has her hands in a few pies but they're cohesive and similar enough to taste delicious altogether as a package.
I'd be happy with Last Dance as I said as a re-release but there are other opportunities for something not yet released, I think Homesick with an X Factor perf would be ideal actually, great idea. That, Genesis, IDGAF or Bad Together seem like obvious choices and they may as well go for something else given New Rules has been huge, to sell more albums, esepcially as she'd probably be in time for an XF slot by the time NR dies down and there's a video out for the next single etc.
Also, I was thinking it'd be fab if she was on a massive dance banger #1 with Clean Bandit or Calvin Harris to tide us over to the next era too *.* Ik we had Scared To Be Lonely but that was future bass, imagine her on something like the Calvin remix of Spectrum by Florence & The Machine or Symphony or Tears or Rockabye by Clean Bandit?! *.*
I'm looking forward with what they do with her in Q4 off the back of New Rules. I hear the label have extended the budget on her so I think we'll get another single, probably a remixed one. It'd be great if she got a performance on X Factor, I could see the album selling decently over Christmas.
Also, Best British Female Brit nomination???
I just can't get over the difference in success between New Rules and Lost In Your Light, considering the latter was basicallly designed/intended to give her a full breakthrough.
Lost In Your Light is absolute garbage, I can't quite believe her label even thought that would do anything
Lost In Your Light is decent as an album track, but nothing else. Should never have been a single.
I love Lost In Your Light but it never was and never will be a good single choice, it feels like sort of 2009, all those people like VV Brown or MPHO who just never really got off the ground
This album is getting better for me with each listen.
I think I'm starting to believe the hype.
Listening to this album in full for the first time for the rate and I'm hooked on 'Garden' so far out of the songs I didn't already know was hoping for at least one additional proper 10/10 gem aside from the singles that I like and it looks like I've already found that. Already counting 4 10/10s on top of my 11 ('Last Dance'), didn't realise quite how much I was into what she has to offer. Such a refreshing new mainstream act~
Omg I feel like the only one who's not overly keen on Garden :/
I'm not too keen either tbh. I don't know if it's just the quality of the other tracks, but I think it's my least fave!
I'm not overly keen on Garden either. It's nice enough to listen to, but I'd definitely file it under "wouldn't miss it if it wasn't included in the track list"!
I really like Lost In Your Light! Obviously it was proven to be a bad single choice given how it performed (although it did set up the album to enter the UK Top 5, so maybe it served its purpose to that extent). I'd say Miguel shines on this track more than Dua does though.
When it comes to the classification of the singles from 'Dua Lipa' there seems to be some inconsistency/confusion... I'd go with the following, which is how her Wiki page lists them:
1. New Love
2. Be The One (later re-released between Blow Your Mind & Lost In Your Light)
3. Last Dance
4. Hotter Than Hell
5. Blow Your Mind (Mwah)
6. Lost In Your Light
7. New Rules
I wouldn't consider Be The One as being a 2nd and 6th single. I regard it as the 2nd single that was given another push later on in the campaign. Therefore I regard New Rules as her 7th single and the next single would be 8th (if it's a brand new choice... if she went with a Last Dance re-release, again like Be The One I'd just think of it as the 3rd single that was given a new lease of life!)
I hope Garden gets released to spite you haters
Garden is great! I think I'd put it as my third favourite non-single, behind IDGAF and Homesick.
I too hope it's released, and that it stalls at #94 to prove its doubters right x
but seriously I feel that'd be such a fail of a choice, please don't consider it Dua! If she insists on a slower single next, I'd opt for Homesick. I honestly feel that Last Dance has the best potential to be big in a post-"New Rules, peak: #1" world - give the public another "woo a bop" moment. *.*
Jay
Last Dance is probably the best option tho. Keep giving the public the bangers *.*
At least another two singles to come, apparently: http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/dua-lipas-debut-album-has-at-least-another-two-singles-to-come-says-label-boss__20027/
omg it really is going to be a Greatest Hits album!
Last Dance to smash in October and November and then a X-Factor performance of Homesick in December just when Last Dance hits ACR
I think Bad Together would be an amazing single choice with Homesick to tie the era off
Last Dance is probably the next single
So ready for at least two more singles *.* I'm so glad it looks like they're going to really invest in her now!
It honestly seems to me that she has Zara's problem now, in that she's exhausted all the real true single material and is left with a bunch of filler rather than killer to choose from.
Oh I think there's plenty of songs that could be hits, her album is on the whole a lot stronger than Zara's.
Comparing her album to So Good is a choice indeed.
BPI have recently confirmed that the album has gone Silver selling over 60,000 copies
It's consistently selling each week with New Rules smashing so hopefully should easily make Gold too!
Never heard anything outside of the singles but just left my Spotify on and something new starting playing and I was bopping and then I looked it up and it was "Genesis" which I'd never heard before. I've always though the album tracklist looked really boring and dull but New Rules has got me excited about her again and now I've made this new discovery, tempted to give the album a listen now...
Genesis really is amazing and a perfect album opener. It doesn't get enough love here.
a re-release of "Last Dance" and then maybe "Bad Together" to finish the album off and I'm happy!
I'd love a Last Dance re-release! My favourite single from her
Italian version with Bang Bang 20th of Oct.
Just got back from seeing her live! An amazing show as expected. It was a big no no for me at first but after hearing 'IDGAF' live I'm convinced it would work as a single like others have said
Certified gold! Fantastic achievement for an act of her calibre!
Indeed! Looks like after all the fallout from delaying the album forever it all ended up smelling of roses anyway
Nominated for British Album of the Year at the 2017 BBC Music Awards.
That is huge! *_* I'm sure she hasn't a chance of winning but if that sets her up for a Brit nomination too then she'll get great Q1 exposure, possibly a return to the top five if "IDGAF" is timed right.
She's also been announced to perform the Top of the Pops Christmas specials, I'm predicting "Be the One" for Christmas Day and "New Rules" for New Year's Eve.
Biggest selling debut album by a female artist in the UK in 2017 Total sales now stand at 140,344 as it re-enters the top 40 this week
Legends only! I wish it'd go Plat, but will probably fall just short.
Hopefully it will get there eventually with streams included?!
BEST BRITISH ALBUM BRIT NOMINATION OMG
Bad Together is creeping up on me recently. What a song!!!
I think a good plan for her at this point would be to re-release Last Dance with a big push worldwide, then push a re-release of the album (maybe a double disc?) with Bang Bang and 3-5 other new songs. I imagine she probably has a handful of other songs from this album's recording sessions that would work.
Re-releasing Last Dance could work but it’s already been a hit in some places and I feel like it’s success would be very limited anywhere other than the UK. I also feel like she’d be better off ending this campaign after IDGAF and moving on swiftly. I love the album but she started the self titled album campaign in 2015, if she did a full re-release it would likely come October time with a new single and extend the album campaign to pretty much 4 years in length (2015-2019).
I’d rather her be quiet as a solo artist for a few months after IDGAF has faded out and come back late July/August with something huge like New Rules. Between now & then a couple of features would help keep her name big and allow for a successful beginning to DL2.
^ Yeah I agree, preferably IDGAF will be the last single from DL - ending the campaign on a high. After the BRITs she should go back into the studio and get to work in creating a worthy follow-up. Be The One and New Rules onwards have really set the groundwork for a potentially massive second album if it comes before the hype dies down - late 2018/early 2019 would be best to take advantage of TV promo.
I don’t think Last Dance did much anywhere though? Either way, I’m not convinced it would be the right choice. I think Begging would finish the era off nicely and be another cute top 20 for her. In reality we’ll probably get Homesick
#4 in today's midweeks! And with four more days AND the Brits boost coming, a new peak is almost guarranteed.
I hope she gets a huge boost from the Brits! She deserves it!
She could make it top 3!
I feel like her next album will debut with like 50k
Album up to #2 on iTunes!!
#1 on iTunes! Queen etc
Also #3 in mids!
This is officially a top three album!!! So proud of her, it's been an insane album campaign but I'm so happy that this finally has a peak that reflects the quality of the album. Fingers crossed it can get one spot higher next week
Album is #2 in mids today
Can't see this posted anywhere, but I've just watched this video on the Radio 1 YouTube page where Dua reflects on the success of the album era. Really interesting watch and it's great to see Dua's passion for music come through, particularly when she speaks about 'New Rules' and the messages she conveyed.
New peak of #3 in the UK
Happy first anniversary to the release of debut album.
Certified Platinum in the UK!
Yesssss!!
She mentioned on Twitter that this will be wrapping up at the end of the year, so looks like there will be a re-release or a standalone EP.
I think it’s a re-release!
Bad move if they’re still continuing with the era through a re-release imo. This era has been going on forever and dragging it out even more, unnecessarily, means that there’s less hype for the second era. It seems to happen to lots of artists where a protacted first era leads to a less successful than expected second era.
If Electricty sounds like a hit, they should push that hard over autumn/Q4 just to tide things over until the second era.
If a re-release or a standalone EP are going to happen, it seems that it's scheduled to be released next month.
From https://twitter.com/ultrasubversive/status/1036323937293090816:
Blackpink is a surprising collab I must say!
This is going to be re-released on October 19. The aforementioned new songs (excluding "One Kiss" and "Electricity", I assume) will be on there.
One Kiss should definitely be included I think, it’s her biggest hit to date (or at least second after New Rules) and she is on it as a joint credit.
She mentioned that "One Kiss" was going to be included on her second album when she was interviewed by a Brazilian TV show. I think that one and "Electricity" make more sense in the upcoming album (if the latter is planned to be included of course) rather than the first one, aside that the former is one of her biggest hits as you mentioned. However, there's a possibility that any or both of them will be included as well.
Scrap the aforementioned because she confirmed that "One Kiss" and "Electricity", plus "No Lie" and "Scared to be Lonely", are going to be included in the re-release.
I wish she'd done new artwork for the re-release but I do like the effect on the background. I just think it's a really unflattering photo of her:
Full order of the new tracks:
1. "Want to"
2. "Running"
3. "Kiss and Make Up" (with Blackpink)
4. "One Kiss" (with Calvin Harris)
5. "Electricity" (with Silk City)
6. "Scared to Be Lonely" (with Martin Garrix)
7. "No Lie" (with Sean Paul)
8. "New Rules" (Live)
Has she performed "Running" or "Kiss and Make Up" anywhere before? I'm surprised she didn't include "High" on this as well just so that all her released songs to date can be heard in one place. I'm a bit apprehensive about the Blackpink collab because I know nothing about them and CHVRCHES' recent collaboration with a K-pop artist is a mess.
It does seem a bit pointless overall though, the features all following one another in order in particular as they all have completely different sounds but I'm glad that "Scared to Be Lonely" will finally feature as it's one of the first songs of hers that I properly loved. I think if she'd left it until 2019/20 to include "One Kiss" on an album, it would've been too late so I'm glad that she's not dragging it on any longer.
I knew One Kiss would be on it it. It would have made 0 sense to do a re-release and not put one of the biggest hits of the year on it, and save it for the album in a year when the song was very old news.
Blackpink are SO good, I can't wait for their collab!
Wednesday Campanella (Japanese ) is a bit more... out there for want of a better word, so isn't really a comparison at all I think they'll fit very well with Dua, they make great pop bangers. I'm pretty sure 2 or 3 speak English too (maybe all 4 of them even) so it will probably run smoothly in English, although it could be a bilingual track to help Dua make more waves in Asia I suppose.
Not at least bothering with a new cover is lazy AF, especially given how LONG this era has been.
(This even misses out New Love and Be The One (again))
It is good she has included all the songs.
This will likely give the album a huge sales boost in Q4.
So the Complete Edition is finally released this Friday! I'm looking forward to hearing the two new songs as I've not listened to any of her unreleased demos.
Where do we think it'll chart next week? Streaming should be strong so I imagine it will rebound to the top 10 and hopefully sneak a week in the top 5.
The new songs are decent. Running feels like a good enough album track and obviously Want To is a bop
Hopefully Kiss and Make Up can take off WW, I have a feeling it will do pretty well with a good video and promo
"Kiss And Make Up" has been uploaded on her YouTube channel.
'Kiss And Make Up' is amazing.
Really hoping this can take off and propel BLACKPINK into the next big thing in the UK
A potentially decent song ruined by sounding like generic Spotify fodder.
This is the kind of route I'm really hoping she doesn't go down for album 2.
I swear “Kiss And Make Up” sounds very similar to another song which goes aye aye aye aye aye
Oh, I am LOOOOOVING Kiss And Make Up
Kiss and Make Up is such a banger, I hope it's the (presumably final) single
Kiss and Make Up is GREAT!! Really hope it's pushed as a single
The other new songs are good to - Want To is pretty brilliant (I've been saving it for the re-issue to make it feel more worthwhile ) and Running is a great album-track type song too.
Kiss and Make Up is such a bop
Would be nice to see it get a single push!
Kiss and Make Up is the trash bop we needed.
Kiss and Make Up sounds like the 2018 version of a 2009-2012 pop song. I'm bopping tbh
(This whole release still seems pointless though)
New edition is number 11 in the updated midweek chart information.
I actually prefer "Running" over "Kiss and Make Up" by far - the latter sounds a lot more 'generic Spotify fodder' whereas the former (and "Want to") are very unique-sounding productions. I'm pleased that it looks like she'll have another hit from the album though - "Kiss and Make Up" is #35 in the midweeks and still climbing the Spotify chart.
A shame that the re-release won't be returning the album to the top 10 (yet) though, it's currently #12 in the midweeks dropping from #11 on Monday
"Begging" has been remixed by adidas for their Statement collection:
So this has actually climbed since the midweeks to #9 officially! I'm pleased with that - I don't think that this album necessarily needed a re-release but it feels nice that they've rounded off the era with all of her huge collabs and hopefully we'll hear something new from DL2 early in 2019!
This is now the most streamed album by a female artist on Spotify and the sixth most streamed album by any artist *_*
Well Done Dua! I guess that's what happens when your album has like 48 singles on it.
13 out of 24 songs were singles overall then right? Combining New Rules (Live) with the original and assuming Kiss and Make Up is the final single
New Love, Room for 2, Thinkin' Bout You, and Want To were released as promo singles too bringing it up to 17/24
Dua performed "Homesick" at Los 40 Music Awards with Spanish singer Pablo Alborán earlier this week:
The song remains my least favourite across the entire 'Dua Lipa' double album but I admire that she is still forcing it down people's throats across the world, while she has new music to plug. I think it was a decent performance though and better than her performances of it here this time last year.
She also won the International Artist and Album of the Year awards which is impressive - she beat Ed Sheeran in the former category and Camila in the latter (who you'd assume would be more popular due to the common language).
The Complete Edition is coming out on vinyl on 7th December! It'll have all of the tracks included across 3 vinyl discs.
It's a shame they didn't change the cover, I already have it on vinyl grrr. The glittery cover might be cute though.
Getting the re release this week! I ordered it on Sunday but with Xmas it’ll come later in the week.
A great debut album and should pass 400K soon!
#22 this week in UK
110 weeks in the top 100 it’s never left. Streaming’s hugely helped but that longevity for a debut album by a pop artist and a female top is amazing
Anyone know the streaming sales for this? (And the paid for or where I could find it I’m intrigued to see how streaming’s helped it out). Z
#16 this week in UK!
The album should eventually make double platinum.
The albums now spent 100 weeks in the UK Top 40
(non consecutive) but an amazing achievement non the less.
It’s never left the top 75 since release though.
Album is at #24 this week in the UK.
Still never left top 75 since it’s release over two years ago!
It was also the 19th biggest selling album of 2019 in the UK.
Homesick from this has really out of nowhere just CLICKED.
I seen this video from The Voice kids and I now can’t believe I really slept on it for so long. It’s such a lovely track now I’ve heard it more closely.
Where did this album peak at on sales charts?
I seem to have forgotten. I’m looking at its chart run now and it’s just incredible. The fact it has so many singles on it is obviously why it’s kept a float but for a 2017 album to still be top 40 and to never have left the chart is a great achievement tbh.
I also like this peaked ages after release too! Was it BRITs week that this climbed to #3?
Also this is #19 on the albums this week.
the highest it’s been in 31 weeks.
Also this is #19 on the albums this week.
the highest it’s been in 31 weeks.
Eek double post
Unstoppable
Glad its finally gone double platinum aswell as it felt like it took ages to get there, its just over 603,000 sales now in the UK.
It was also on the sales top 100 too at #69.
Idk when it was last in the sales top 100 as it was a re entry but nice to see it back:)
It’s also spent 97 weeks on the Billboard charts in the US!
Not bad going for a #27 peak
You're welcome *.*
These are just estimations, but I've worked out roughly what the format split for Dua Lipa's debut album could be:
162,400 - physical
55,700 - download
385,600 - streaming
#16 in UK this week.
And on sales only it was at #54!
so what are top 3 most streamed albums?
Yeah:
1. Ed Sheeran - Divide
2. Post Malone - Beerbongs & Bentleys
3. Ed Sheeran - x
Oh wow so she got the most female streamed album
I am sure FN will challenge that feat as well
For the first time since release this is no longer in the UK Top 100!
It did manage 287 consecutive weeks there though and will almost definitely return in the new year.
I wonder if she holds a record for most consecutive weeks since debut amongst females though.
It can't be far off if, not already holding the record
This has now managed a milestone 300 weeks on the albums chart in the UK.
