Gutted, she lost Actress - Drama to Glenn Close That's her out of the Actress race at the Oscars but even being nominated for her first film is incred. Hopefully it makes Song more of a lock then as she's got to be rewarded for something.

Are the oscars and globes usually similar in terms of the winners?

Are the oscars and globes usually similar in terms of the winners? Usually they are but sometimes there's differences! I'd say song is basically a lock and actress will probs be between Glenn and Olivia now (Gaga is 3rd and still has a tiny chance of winning but it's very unlikely now). Cooper will probs lose actor unless BR backlash really kicks off but picture is still a possibility as I can't see Oscars going for either of the globe picture winners but I'd say Roma is probs the fave for that now. |

In terms of acting, I've seen all the nominated performances and stan glasses off, Glenn gave a much more accomplished performance than Gaga, so I can't be too mad - Gaga was lucky to be nominated given the caliber of acting in the category. (I think Toni should have been there though). It's easy to get caught up in wanting Gaga to win because her being a winner would be great, but giving it to the best should come first.
Really glad she got the Globe for Shallow, should mean the Oscar is on lock?! Though she should have probably beaten Sam Smith though last time as well. In terms of the movie, Bohemian Rhapsody winning is just bizarre? Reviews were lukewarm, it just wasn't that great. A Star is Born (Or something else) should easily have beaten it. |

Agree with everything here, you're spot on. I'd have loved Gaga to win, but not at the expense of a legitimately better performance just because I love her. And I'd have loved Toni to have been in the mix too. She's so under-recognised for her talent, it's unreal. She's one of the only actors that evokes genuine emotion in me when she's crying on screen. She's just terrific in everything. I have absolutely no idea what happened with them choosing BoRhap, it's just a ridiculous decision. In no world was it even a very good movie, let alone a "best" movie. |

My friend who's an Oscar expert, told me that no way Bohemian Rhapsody will have a chance there.. However, it's not given that ASIB will either

Yeah BoRhap has no chance at Oscars to win best picture (but will probs get a nom there now + win actor) as backlash will hopefully start to hit it and HFPA we're obsessed with the film so there was no way it wasn't going to slay yesterday I feel Roma's gonna take it but there's so many potential best picture Oscar winners atm (ASIB still can cos HFPA/European critics were much harsher on it than American critics, green book/Bo Rhapsody if they somehow avoid backlash, BlackKklansman or Black Panther winning SAG and then really pushing for the win, the favourite somehow re-entering back into the race)

So sad for Gaga, Bradley and ASIB as a whole... such a disappointing result regardless of the win for Shallow

I agree with all of this. I love her but she was probably the weakest in the category... We should just be grateful she even made it this far in her first leading role. I'm more surprised at Bradley not winning as I do think he's deserving. Rami Malek is a wonderful actor but everything about Bohemian Rhapsody is mediocre. |

But she isn't the best actress, let's face it. I'm not surprised it lost out in all categories. I was expecting it. Same for the Oscars

As much as I'd love Gaga to win an Oscar I'd be happy for Glenn Close or Olivia Coleman to win it as they are both fantastic actresses too, especially Glenn Close and it's a scandal they Close hasn't won an Oscar already!
Looks like Shallow has Oscar win in the bag though so Gaga may well be getting her first Oscar! |

I'm not even totally disappointed. The film has FAR outdone expectations and the nominations it got alone are incredible. It won an award, and will hopefully get a few more by year end.
Well done to the team and Shallow |

How many Grammys are people predicting / thinking she’ll win from the 5 nominations?
I can see Shallow definitely getting the best song used for visual media award. Would love to see her win more than one award though but any wins would be good! She deserved it so much last year for Million Reasons and the Joanne album so she better not be snubbed again! This post has been edited by Jordan Lee: 10th January 2019, 11:20 PM |

At least one, for Pop Duo & Group. That’s the one I’m second most confident of after the visual media award. I’d love her to get record or song of the year but I think she’d get one or the other if any on those ones I think Drake could get that one. In the pop solo one it’s hard to predict if Joanne will win that one but I wouldn’t be surprised if Ariana got her first Grammy in that category. Still to have 5 nominations ten years into her career is good going. I guess ASIB could still get some nominations for the 2020 awards too as the album was released after the cut off date. |
