1st March 2020
It's a first week on top for Barry White's classic sexy soul debut from 1973, as featured in Birds Of Prey, and which first-time round hit my top 5 but had a short chart run because it was only in the UK top 30 for a few weeks (I based my charts exclusively on tracks inside the top 30 in those days). So, only taken almost 47 years to get there, and his 2nd chart-topper following Let The Music Play which topped in 2000 a mere 24 years late, this one nearly doubles that gap. James Blunt grabs another top 10 from his current album, he's really back on top form of late, and 1979 top 20 track (for me) Driver's Seat, returns Sniff 'n' The Tears to the charts at 12, 41 years on, thanks to my entering it into a music competition - now it can get a much better chart placing for such a great record. Another big batch of new entries means that there are virtually no records dropping outside the top 50 - they've all had to be evicted to make way for all the fresh stuff! Big climbs into the 40 for Agnes Obel, Lauv, Lizzo, Ronan & Emeli (Ronan Keating having been away for 8 years, but extending his chart run of solo stuff to 21 years), X Ambassadors & The Avalanches. Newies include the UK Eurovision entry from John Newman's brother James, probably our best chance to do well since Blue's entry; SZA back with Justin Timberlake in tow, his chart run now 17 years solo (with 5 chart-toppers) or 21 years with N'Sync (plus another chart-topper). It's another month so it must be another Noel Gallagher single, he usually has 2 charting simultaneously the last year or so; Lady Gaga is back doing dance music, and returns to my chart for the first time in 6 years - that's longer than her entire prolific career up to that point, but extends her run to 11 years, including 4 chart-toppers in her early Fame-hot days. Paloma Faith returns assisting Jonas Blue, she is also of the Class of 2009, but her 4 chart-toppers are spread-out over her entire career and she has only missed out on charting in 2019. Finally, The Shapeshifters return 14 years since they last troubled my charts, and 16 years since Lola's Theme was a big debut. Unexpected returns are always welcome in my charts! 1 2 1 4 I’M GONNA LOVE YOU JUST A LITTLE MORE BABY Barry White 364000 2 1 1 4 TEARS OF GOLD Faouzia 476000 3 3 3 5 THERAPY Duke Dumont featuring Sharlene Hector 303500 4 4 1 13 BLINDING LIGHTS The Weeknd 1171600 5 7 4 6 WILL O’THE WISP Pet Shop Boys 303750 6 6 5 6 AND IT’S STILL ALRIGHT Nathaniel Rateliff 246400 7 10 7 5 YOU ARE THE ONE Pet Shop Boys 156750 8 5 1 10 FADES AWAY Avicii featuring Mishcatt 1015000 9 13 9 4 HALFWAY James Blunt featuring Ward Thomas 99700 10 9 3 6 FOREVER Will Young 314000 11 8 6 6 MAKE IT TO HEAVEN David Guetta & MORTEN with Raye 211800 12 NEW 12 1 DRIVER’S SEAT Sniff ‘n’ The Tears 35000 13 11 5 7 KISS SOMEBODY Julie Bergan with Seeb 341700 14 36 14 5 PHYSICAL Dua Lipa 75050 15 20 15 5 BLUE MOON RISING Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds 88200 16 19 16 4 ROSES Adam Lambert & Nile Rodgers 78000 17 34 17 6 LONELY Joel Corry featuring HARLEE 95650 18 16 6 9 OFFLINE Friendly Fires & Friend Within 251800 19 15 9 8 THE WORLD WE LEFT BEHIND The Fizz 219200 20 30 20 4 IN MY ARMS Purple Disco Machine featuring Inner Life & Jocelyn Brown, with Al Stewart 57850 21 12 12 6 ALL MY LOVE Jeff Lynne’s ELO 156350 22 14 4 9 MONKEY BUSINESS (RADIO EDIT) Pet Shop Boys 392500 23 17 17 7 JULY Noah Cyrus & Leon Bridges 131000 24 49 24 2 BROKEN SLEEP Agnes Obel 31100 25 27 25 3 NO TIME TO DIE Billie Eilish 54250 26 60 26 2 MODERN LONELINESS Lauv 28500 27 28 27 4 REACT Pussycat Dolls 54900 28 18 9 7 OH YEAH! Bit mixed on the paloma collab, it's OK but I usually love paloma stuff... Loving the lady gaga track! Ooh need to check out that shapeshifters one... I had similar chart rules back in the 80s haha... Good stuff! |

I had similar chart rules back in the 80s haha... Good stuff! Hi Toffo! Yes Saint Jhn took a while to grow on me, unusually as I tend to go for dance tracks as a rule Yes I think the collab is also OK - I like it, but it's not up there with most of her great solo stuff, but I had to buy it - it's Paloma Faith! Gaga's new one is like stepping back in a time warp to 10 years ago, it could have been the follow-up to Bad Romance in an alternate universe Crikey you hve been charting a long time too then! thanks for commenting! |
