Like this idea!
Think everyone knows what my favourite song of the last decade is (with that like 90 week chart-run that I'll try and find again!)
Ahh great idea
Will we put it in this topic?
Yep. Just post your favourite song with some commentary. If you've charted it, including chart runs is optional as is including a video.
But it can't be Run Away Eith Me ... 'cos it's shit and overrated (overrated on here) :/

7's Pick....
"Shuffle" by Bombay Bicycle Club
"weight is coming off, soaring high"
Coincidentally the song that was my personal #1 when first joining Buzzjack! Sometimes the 'best' songs for you are the ones you can attach to important memories or specific points in time- and this song basically IS the summer of 2011 for myself. I'd just finally got out of high school by this point, and "Shuffle" was the perfect upbeat, feel-good musical accompaniment to a lazy, carefree summer
That vibrant piano riff is a key element, running all throughout the track and lodging itself in your head effortlessly, and not just the chorus but the ENTIRE track packs an anthemic, sing-along punch. And even though this was my unequivocal summer anthem from 2011, it still sounds sprightly as ever almost 5 years later. Say you haven't had enough, say you wanna ~
Joseph's Pick: Girls Aloud - Something New
My Chart Run: 1-1-2-1-1-1-1-1-2-2-1-2-3-4-3-3-3-3-5-6-8-7-5-7-8-8-9-9-13-12-12-16-14-20-23-30-37-X
What else could it possibly be?? Girls Aloud came back with a BANG in 2012 after a three-year hiatus, with a greatest hits album and tour in tow, as well as this killer lead single. Something New opens with the line “GO GIRLS G-G-GO GO GO” and goes on to say that they’re the “LEADERS OF THE PACK”, going to show that despite being away, they’re still on top of their game. Each member gets their moment to shine on this track, particularly Nadine and Sarah in verse 2. It got to a decent peak of #2 in the official chart, boosted by it being the official Children In Need single of 2012, but sadly didn’t hang around well, spending only 2 further weeks top 40, quite a travesty for a song this incredible really. After 3 and a half years, it’s still such a huge jam for me and has failed to get old at all. It spent 8 non-consecutive weeks at #1 in my personal chart, which remains the all-time record, and also topped the multichart. It’s just a shame they released Beautiful ‘Cause You Love Me afterwards and then split Either way, it's a huge all-time fave of mine and my personal favourite track from my favourite artist ever.
OTHER SHOUTOUTS (cause these songs are simply too good to ignore)
Beyoncé & Shakira - Beautiful Liar
Cody Simpson feat. Becky G - Wish U Were Here

Shuffle is brilliant !
Here are some personal chart related facts about Bombay Bicycle Club and that songs performance on my chart. It was also #1 in my http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=137414&st=20.
Entered chart: 26th June 2011 at #36
Hit #1: 31st July 2011 on its 6th week
CR: 36-16-08-05-02-01-01-01-02-03-03-06-06-07-09-11-17-22-26-30-32-35-43 (23 weeks)
Facts:
*The group have spent 170 weeks on my chart.
*They were last on the chart on 4 January 2015 with “Home By Now” which peaked at #13 in December 2014.
*They have only had one #1 but have a further ten Top 10 hits.
*Their first hit was “Always Like This” which charted in April 2009.
Riser's pick:
La Roux “Bulletproof”
So, I started following the UK charts just as La Roux were breaking through and ‘In For The Kill’ was becoming a big hit. Then ‘Bulletproof’ premiered and it was immediately the best discovery I had made in my short time as a chart fan. It was good enough to see it at #1 in the UK, but then it crossed over to the US the following year and was a massive hit there as well, a dream come true for me! As wonderful as the song is, it’s not the sort of thing that would normally do well in the US, especially in 2010, so this is by far my fondest memory of watching a song turn into a big hit... that’s why I’ve included it here as my favorite song from the last decade.
And there you have it guys. The mods favourite tracks of the last decade. Why not give your opinion on each of our songs while you wait to post your own.
Really good idea for a thread, will try and read everyone's!
Shuffle is majestic.
Riser wins (did not know you were such a big fan!)
So out of touch with that's in the charts these days, listening to that Carly song I'm fairly sure that I have never heard it before
That doesn't mean you're out of touch with the charts.
Was torn between two - first thought "Red Dress" by Sugababes (which only just makes the cut, released in March 2006 - and the last song to enter my charts at No.1!)
but it has to be 2014's "Elevate" by St Lucia
Chart run: 3 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 2 - 2 - 5 - 10 - 16 - 23 - 30 - 37 = 16 weeks

I scrawled something down late last night so apologies if what I've wrote makes no sense whatsoever, I'm not going to read through it I'll just post it :,)
My favourite song of the decade~
This was really hard to pick, as there are a hell of a lot of songs that have stuck with me for a long time~ here are some that could have easily made it had i not have picked this~
- Alex Clare - Too Close
- Gotye - Somebody That I Used To Know
- Bastille - Pompeii
- Avicii - Wake Me Up
- The Prick x Lillywood - Prayer In C
- *quite a few from last year that haven't featured in my top 10 countdown yet so it would ruin the whole point of the countdown*
But in the end I went with ~
Joe Stone - The Party ft. Montell Jordan (This Is How We Do It)
- This is my favourite song of last year and rightly so, it's so addictive and I could easily listen to it over and over again (Elyar Fox teas) The vocals are really great and the backing music is so clean and polished - basically it's the perfect song in my eyes, it came out at a time where there were so many fantastic songs out but this just stood out for me.
- I actually first heard it at a shopping centre and immediately got hooked to it, and having seen a song called The Party on the release schedule, I listened to it as soon as I got home and had it on repeat all night
- A few weeks after that I went on a road trip with my parents and kept Radio 1 on at all times just in case it came on - ironically I think it only came on once in a whole week when I was listening to it when it was their most played song of the week
- Overall, it's just a really great song and I was so irritated when it missed out on the top 10 The follow up to it is superb too - Joe Stone is amazing
So before I reveal my favorite song of the pat decade I'm gonna recap the (as far as I can recall) songs which topped each of the past 10 years. I can absolutely guarantee all of these songs are in my all-time top 50 though I've never made an official list like that and I'm not sure I could even make one that would stick because damn it would be hard to choose between my babies. Anyway, let's recap:
Ten years ago we have my favorite track from Madonna's best album to date: "Get Together". This song is by far my favorite Madonna track and it's just so feel good and I remember when I heard it first on Big Brother UK I fell in love with it instantly. It reminds me of an amazing summer when I finally came out of my shell and made a lot of friends who are immensely important to me today.
2007 is capped with a song off one of my all-time favorite albums by Justin Timberlake. "What Goes Around.. Comes Around" was for a long time my all-time number one song, and for good reason too as it's one of the best breakup songs ever in my opinion. I remember listening to it while experiencing heartbreak too so that definitely boosted it's importance to me by far.
In 2008 we have a track that's actually a remix. The Pussycat Dolls got their beautiful break-up single I Hate This Part remixed by Dave Audé which turned the song into an euphoric dancefloor masterpiece. Me and my friends listened to it non-stop and it reminds of many times, good and bad, in a year that was a huge rollercoaster ride of emotions.
2009 was a great year with many amazing tracks fighting for my attention but I think it would be a shame to choose anything other than Beyoncé and Halo as it was arguably my most played song of the year. This song is forever important to me because it reminds me of one of the toughtest time in my life when I was standing in the rubble of my former self after some very tough months, looking onwards to what could only be called recovery and redemption.
The start of the 2010's brought with it a lot of great songs, and two of my top 10 songs of all time hail from the same month of this year actually so it was incredibly tough to choose between them but ultimately Katy Perry owns my second favorite song of all time through the Kaskade remix of Teenage Dream. As much as I love the original, the remix takes this song to a whole other planet of euphoria. I will forever love this version of this song as it just has this way of making me feel absolutely amazing. One of the best songs to make my day better if I ever feel bad.
Next up in 2011 is my favorite scandinavian singer Medina and the title track from her amazing 2011 LP "For Altid" which translates to 'Forever' in english. If you're in need of some amazing scandipop I will always and forever recommend Medina as her music is amazing, especially in her native language. This was my most played track of 2011 according to last.fm and for good reason as it is an absolute masterpiece and the music video (like all of her music videos) is gorgeous. This reminds me of a great summer with friends both at home in Iceland and in Spain during a trip with my friends.
Skipping 2012 for now as it's the year that my absolutely all time favorite song was released.
In 2013 my favorite track of the year is another non-english entry. Belgian singer Stromae released the masterpiece that is "Papaoutai" in the early months of 2013 but I didn't hear it until I saw the video which, mind you, is the best music video ever made. I'm not even exaggerating - this video is art in its' purest form. The video delivers a haunting message and the song itself delivers it as well through french lyrics you might not understand but still you feel something so incredible about them. I probably played this at least once a day from the day I discovered it until December 31st, 2013.
2014 was a hard year to pick one song from because even though I had a lot of songs that I loved, none of them really stood the test of time as well as a track I really just heard on accident during summer. Wilkinson is definitely not one of the biggest DJ's out there, and this song - "Half Light" only managed a very low peak if I recall correctly, which is an absolute shame. I remember hearing this on the radio and thinking "holy shit, this song is amazing I neeeeeed to know what it's called right now". I proceeded to overplay it for the next couple of months because perfection is the only word I can use to describe it.
Finally for 2015 we have my toughest selection yet. Not because so many songs were battling for this title because really there was only one - but the reason this is tough is because this song has a huge emotional value to me. I choose "Shine" by Years & Years because it reminds me of the toughest time I have ever lived through - the loss of my best friend. I had discovered this only about two or three days before my best friend died in a car accident last summer and I feel like the lyrics and meolody haunt me through that experience. The song is beautiful and even though I'm pretty sure it's a love song, I interpret it as a song about something completely different. This song came at the perfect time though as rather than make me feel sad, it makes me happy and makes me value my memories with her so much more and something about the song makes me see how lucky I really was to have had her in my life.
With that said, I think it's time to reveal my number one pick. This song I chose partly for the same reasons as my last one - emotional value because of the friend that I lost but this one is because the song reminds me of her in so many ways. I never imagined I could see this song as anything other than just a dancefloor anthem but now I see the lyrics for what I imagine they were supposed to be about. The song was originally released as a competition entry but it has become so much more after it won the contest it participated in. The artist has gone on to become one of my absolute favorite artists even though they only have one (amazing) album to their name so far..
My favorite song of the last decade (and all-time really) is..
Loreen - Euphoria
clear winner for me...
Nearest competition is this one
@popchartfreak: Both of those are amazing! POC is actually also in my all-time Top 100 for sure! Flo has at least one song there as well, but that would be Spectrum. Possibly Howl as well <3
@JSG: Carly Rae Jepsen is a gem and Emotion is one of (if not THE) best albums of last year! RAWM was actually my most played track of the year according to Spotify which was a nice surprise!
@Joseph: Girls Aloud are amazing and Something New is a huge pop banger. I loved it as their comeback single but for me they have had better songs in the past decade such as Untouchable and Something Kinda Ooooh! Great pick still! Some awesome shoutouts as well, epecially American Boy, 1D, Hard Out Here and Fancy!
@Riser: Amazing! I almost picked In For The Kill as my track of 2009 but it was just narrowly edged out by Halo. That whole album was just amazing though and I listened to much to Bulletproof and IFTK back in the summer of '09! The video is just amazing as well!
@mdh: Although I did like your TOTD at the time it grew old quick for me and I'm way more into the songs you almost chose haha! They're all instant classics while The Party kind of falls flat for me. Wake Me Up especially still sounds fresh to me to this day <3
I have not heard Seven and tuzapicabit's picks before though, so it's hard for me to comment on them as I can't listen to them right now but I'll have to give them a listen after work!
I know this is totally cheating but I simply can't pick just one... but it would definitely be one of these ten (I think!):
Running To The Sea, Queen of Peace, Do It Again, Midnight City, Push and Shove, Zero and especially Dancing On My Own <33333
Okay, I had a pretty hard time with this
There were easily a bunch of songs that I could list that have made such a huge impact on my life the past decade. In fact, this was pretty much the decade when I was immersed in chart music. So after a hard day's work of deliberation, my honorable mentions are:
• Twenty One Pilots - "Stressed Out"
• Miley Cyrus - "Party In The U.S.A"
• One Direction - "What Makes You Beautiful"
• Cobra Starship f/Leighton Meester - "Good Girls Go Bad"
• Fifth Harmony f/Kid Ink - "Worth It"
• Ariana Grande f/The Weeknd - "Love Me Harder"
• Lady Gaga - "Poker Face"
• Pussycat Dolls - "Buttons"
• Taylor Swift - "Blank Space"
• Katy Perry - "Firework"
• Ke$ha - "TiK ToK"
So my song of the decade would be...
Ariana Grande f/Zedd - "Break Free"
2nd single, My Everything
Peak: #1 (7 weeks)
I don't think I've ever stanned a song as hard as this. It came out near the middle of the summer where I started to encounter some hard times on a previous forum as well as for school, but this and Teen Wolf Season 4 kept me above water. When the prospect of an Ariana/Zedd collaboration came to be (a bit before "Problem" was announced"), I naturally freaked out since I love both artists. Needless to say, they didn't let me down.
I interpreted "Break Free" as a song where Ariana is trying to liberate herself from a toxic relationship, and in a way, this was what I was going through. I just ended my first year of college where my entire dorm room was either a party boy frat type or extremely pretentious (in the case of one guy). I was trying to find myself in a sea of experiencing new things as any college freshman would do and I thought I was able to speak my mind freely on a music forum. It ended up with everyone thinking that I was a troll, and it was something I couldn't stand. This song helped me liberate myself from their beliefs that I should stan a pop diva and shade everyone and everything. I will admit that I'm still finding myself now, but in a way, I found a way to embrace my eccentricities rather than try to hide them. This served as a spiritual anthem for me.
I saw a comment elsewhere where someone said that I was trying to change myself to fit in with Buzzjack, and this isn't the case at all. Everything is just a base of perspective. Some people might find me weird, and that's okay. I'd rather be weird than a product of someone else any day.
^Cody, that's a fantastic paragraph. Shows you've really used that to develop Break Free as a positive anthem for you.
In terms of the last decade, well, so much of my music taste has come from my development period over the last ten years that I'm pretty much posting about my favourite song ever, but it's also relevant to the PC forum as when I started my personal chart as I found this site, I backdated it to early 2010, and partly due to lack of ability to think of any decent challengers, it was and remains my longest ever #1 atop my chart at 10 weeks.
I talk of course of the geekiest pop that has hit the UK #1 and the singer that launched ten million spinning memes from his anthem about insomnia.
It is an addictive tune that never fails to light up my life. It took some time to actually solidify its position as my favourite song, but it just never got boring and it was always always welcome. I really connect with the bizarro lyrics (as generic lyrics never do it for me), it talks of something turning the whole sekai round slowly, so its wide-reaching, it gives off a desire to be a part of the world yet against conformity, and it has fulfilled its purpose as a nostalgic song well by bringing back memories of a simpler time. I think it's transcended what it originally was, something very good, wide-eyed idealism and all, into something that is personally special for me and that's how you find your way into my top lists.
Aww Cody lovely paragraph, and Break Free does make sense as an inspirational anthem of sorts. And of course, eccentricities were made to be embraced <3
Let's see some more songs guys
This'll take me way too long to shift through my entire iTunes library to find one appropriate one, so off the top of my head this, released in 2006 ;o:
I'm a bit too tired to write a full commentary lol, but yes this is up there with my faves ever and is still an epic, bombastic rock opera that just sounds so...timeless, definite hints of Queen in there which is always great, but also it sounded so different to anything at the time and it getting an official number 1 was such a shock but in the best way. It was one of the first songs I remember loving when I started following the charts so it will always have a big impression on me and it still moves me all the time, especially listened in the context of them splitting up so yeah, in a nutshell, it's a really special song to me.
and the top Youtube comment on the video made me chuckle :')
Welcome To The Black Parade is probably second for me, excellent choice Chez! And most of your commisserations are fantastic too.
Ah! One Day Like This is my favorite one mentioned so far!! Even if it's only your second choice Chez
Euphoria and Break Free are up there as well <3 This is such an interesting thread
Your Welcome everyone, I know this thread is SHAMAZING
Jk, no srs i had no idea the Pop Forum were doing something similar or i would have made it your fave song of all time but at the time of coming up with the thread idea I thought decade would be more appropriate since Buzzjack has just celebrated it's own 10th Birthday x
Crystal Castles ft. Robert Smith “Not In Love”
UK Chart Position: #54 (19 December 2010)
Personal Chart Debut: 31st October 2010
Hit #1: 5th December 2010
Personal Chart Run: 40-26-18-07-02-01-01-01-01-01-01-01-02-03-03-05-07-07-09-12-15-18-22-28-33-36-41-45-48-48 (30 weeks)
Canadian synthpop duo Crystal Castles first came to my attention during the first series of Bristol-based teen drama Skins. The distinctive and somewhat abrasive vocals of Alice Glass mixed with the experimental and interesting production talents of Ethan Kath made for some very interesting early singles - of which “Courtship Dating” was the first to capture my attention, and sharing my love of the group amongst my close friends I began to develop a strong appreciation of and obsession with the Canadian duo. The second album followed 2 years later in 2010 which was - to my ears - even better and a lot more commercial than their self-titled debut. In the autumn it was announced that they had re-recorded “Not In Love” as a single - a fairly standard electropop cover of forgotten 1980s Canadian New Wave band Platinum Blonde. The album version was duly updated to include the vocal talents of my childhood hero Robert Smith of the Cure. A perfect mix ensued of emotional charged vocal bombshells from Smith juxtaposed with the rhythmic blast of euphoric synths throughout which makes this THE perfect pop single of the decade for me. It especially hit me when the lyrics in the bridge leading to THAT chorus Cos it's cold oustide tapped in well with the record breaking snow and cold that hit Devon that Christmas, and it strongly reminds me of an indie night in early 2011 when The Cavern went crazy for it!
My pick:
UK Peak: #6
Weeks on chart: 166
Snow Patrol have always been a great band, but this is hands down their best song (although "Run" is brilliant aswell). This is just flawless, and it will be remembered fondly for many years to come. A true classic.
Ten honourable mentions from #2 to #11:
Years & Years - King
Professor Green feat. Emeli Sandé - Read All About It
Vance Joy - Riptide
The Script feat. will.i.am. - Hall Of Fame
Labrinth feat. Emeli Sandé - Beneath Your Beautiful
Ella Henderson - Ghost
Katy B - Crying For No Reason
Naughty Boy feat. Sam Smith - La La La
Ellie Goulding - Burn
Coldplay - Hymn For The Weekend
For all these kind of "favourite song of..." types questions mine's always Pendulum's 'The Tempest' but for the purposes of this thread I'll stick to songs released as singles in which case I can't choose between these 3:
Alesso's 'Cool' is starting to push right up there too.
