I went to my local HMV today and the place was buzzing though that’s likely to be because of the massive sales they’ve got right now. I’m going to be incredibly disappointed if it disappears from the high street because it’s one of my favourite shops.

Though £6 in 1981 was worth a lot more than it is now and when I was 17 I didn't really go out pubbing so most of what money I had did just go on buying Record Mirror (Alan Jones was working for them by this point) and records. |

I really like the one in Colchester, it is a lot more friendly than the one in Chelmsford. The one in Colchester has always seemed busy when I've gone in. Whether people have actually been spending money is another thing.
I hope it pulls through even if it means closing less profitable stores. |

Absolutely gutted to see this happening to HMV again - I worked at their head office before the axe fell at the last administration but have been a loyal HMV supporter ever since often paying slightly more just because I wanted my money to go back into the last remaining record store chain.
I really hope that from the ashes of this some sort of business model can survive - I think they should really concentrate on their online business and have 10-20 stores like their Oxford Street flagship that are destination venues that can host album signings and events. Lots of if onlys but if they had struck into the digital world in the early days they could have become a real force. |

Shame to see Portsmouth there, luckily Southampton isn't.
The Isle of Wight store closed about 5 years ago, it's a bargain store now.

Yeah I’ve never liked the HMV in Chelmsford, whereas the Colchester HMV is cute. I like the Ipswich (only just opened!) and Bury St Edmunds HMVs too.

More of a cobbled together list by The Mirror rather than there being any fact behind them - lots of stores on the list are on greatly reduced or free rent and would have gone with or without the administration. |

Belfast I'm sure when you were working in HMV then Robbie they sold plenty of copies of Human League

I worked in the Bath one over Christmas, real shame
That one's not on the list, so it'd be nice to keep that.Not only that but the people I worked with and got to know who could be losing their jobs But also so many people would come in saying they didn't trust online shopping, which is fair enough, they get left behind as there's nowhere else to go with the same range of DVDs etc. that you can actually browse. I am fine with online shopping but totally understand that viewpoint, with online you kind of have to know what you want but a lot of people still love being able to go in the shop and look around because you don't always know exactly what you want.
