So we've finally finished the 1990 one with Beats International snatching a surprise win for the year with Dub Be Good To Me, defeating Madonna's Vogue in the final
Dub Be Good To Me was one of the earlier tracks to have a Norman Cook involvement, following on from the Housemartins and preceding his work as Freakpower, Pizzaman and Fatboy Slim. He's got quite the chart record when you add it all up and he can proudly add his greatest achievement to date now to his CV, winning a buzzjack survivor surely has to be better than Praise You making #1? I must admit that I was expecting Vogue to win from the moment the 1990 survivor began so it was a surprise to me that Madonna couldn't quite snatch the victory, still the iconic track still strikes a pose in second place but will not be progressing to the decade final
On to 1991 then and we have a fresh batch of 10 tracks for you to dissect and tear to pieces, beginning here in round one where you get to vote out your least favourite of the end of year top 10... get voting!
Color Me Badd get my vote, really awful song!
Have to say this is not a vintage year, I preferred pretty much everything in 1990 to most of this lot.
I Wanna Sex You Up
Went for The Simpson’s
Never even heard that Oceanic song! Did it hit number one??
No it made #2 I think. It’s one of the better songs in the list tbh
Just checked and it reached #3 for a few weeks
Yeh its decent but for such a big seller I thought it would be a classic that's commonly known but it really isn't (for me anyway).
I need to give a couple of these a listen before round 2 but I went with The Simpsons since it's pure novelty. Also good to see their will be a decade final survivor.
Didn't think Oceanic Insanity would have made this list. Hopefully it or Bohemian Rhapsody will win out of these, although I do like that rather cheesy Cher song, remember it from when I was younger.
Urgh! Cher to go.
not a great batch. Gone for the one I recall hardly at all, Oceanic. The rest are very very well known, even if they are novelty songs, and I dont hate any of 'em.
The Simpsons track should really be labelled "DJ Michael Jackson featuring The Simpsons" according to today's habits...
Do The Bartman
Was definitely not expecting that 1990 winner! Decent enough song but preferred both Vogue & Killer.
1991 well this is quite the eclectic mix. Voting The Simpsons.
I've never heard that Oceanic song either but it has to better than Bartman.
Oceanic was a surprise hit and a controversal hit aswell as many people it promoted the use of drugs, while at the time i didnt pick up on its lyrics i loved the song and still do.
you guys never heard Oceanic-Insanity? The song was huge at the time, bit of same school as Ebeneezer Goode or Charly
It's for sure one of the best #1s of the early 90s
really bad list of songs for 91, the Simpsons one hardly qualifies as a song
Color Me Badd.
Round 2 time??
Ok. I messed up. I don't usually do these things so I didn't read the rules and voted for what I wanted to survive....(because of the thread title)
I voted for Queen.
Color Me Badd is awful. Poor top 10.
Sorry everyone. I must admit I have no enthusiasm for this round as I hate pretty much everything... I'll get the options up later on but I probably won't bother with write ups etc as I just can't for this pile of rubbish!
No one needs to know about this music. It should be buried forever. Do a 'save' instead and which ever one wins that, wins over all.
Go to 1992 and never speak of this again.
It's not that bad? I like most of these songs. Still deserves a survivor round even without commentaries but do a speed version of one poll per day if everyone is more eager for 1992
I save The Days of Our Lives.
That is my final comment on the matter.
Maybe just do double eliminations.
"First to be eliminated is The Simpsons and Do The Bartman. A spin-off from the greatest sitcom (albeit animated) of all-time, it followed fanboy Michael Jackson's appearance on the show incognito as a mentally-challenged white man who thought he was Michael Jackson. Or was that the other way round? Anyway, he did the spin-off single from the Simpsons album when Bart Simpson was the takeaway hit character, before everyone grew to realise that it was all about Homer really. As a cartoon-spin-off it's really not bad. Not getting carried away, I mean Deep Deep Trouble was a better follow-up, and it's not in the same league as The Archies' Sugar Sugar who did it first and best, but I can listen to it without wanting to throw something at the radio or TV"
There, done one review for you
^oh you just reminded me that the Simpsons did more songs. I was kinda remembering Do the Bartman as a one-off single
but just checked now and they even had a full album... and it even went top 10 in the UK the power of tv I guess
I bought that album I was 15 though!
Why was 1991 so terrible compared to the amazingness of the rest of the decade??
I always thought those other years were decent basically after 93
