It's almost time for the last episode before the big two-part finale! A story that looks to be VERY Bridgerton-inspired, and with a mysterious new character Rogue (Jonathan Groff), as well as Indira Virma (Torchwood's Suzie Costello) and Paul Forman (Emily in Paris) guest starring, an emotional ending, AND a twist... it's shaping up to be a good one! Get your bets in now for who Rogue's going to end up being |

This was bloody incredible already craving a rewatch to soak it all up again!
It felt like the most 'quintessentially Doctor Who' episode of the series so far, and while I'm certainly not against Doctor Who taking risks and being experimental it just felt very wholesome and warm. The motives of the Chuldur were hilarious too. Possibly with a deeper undertone to it too, though, with the whole wanting to cosplay as other beings? SO much to enjoy - the Can't Get You Out of My Head scene is an instant classic the Poker Face scene, Rogue and the Doctor (the proposal scene and then the ending, god they were both so emotional!!), Paul Forman and Indira Varma were both amazing guest stars, the Bridgerton vibes were on point, and Kate Herron/Briony Redman absolutely need to come back for more if this is what they can give us. |

I knew I recognised Bad Guy earlier on, then the much more obvious Poker Face confirmed it for me

I'm in slightly two minds about this one. Overall I would say I enjoyed it and there were some very good elements like the setting, production design, costumes and the lead performances. On the flip side there were some reservations - Rogue was well played but felt a bit Jack Harkness lite and I'm not sure we really need that again but if he returns it has potential to be interesting. I've never been a fan of romantic subplots for The Doctor and once again I feel it acted to the detriment of the actual story. It was well acted but inevitably relegated the Chuldur to a background concern for half the runtime. And speaking of the antagonists, the were ok at first but could have been far more interesting yet became generic unthreatening and largely irrelevant in the end. I'm not really a big fan of contemporary music in the show and this did nothing to change my mind, although the orchestral interpretations were less offensive.
I'm really not sure what to make of the inclusion of Richard E Grant's Shalka Doctor in the 'Doctor's lineup' especially after his role as The Great Intelligence. It'll be interesting to see if this is ever played on further. And starting to get a proper feel for this Doctor's character now - he's charming when he wants to be but he's prone to running away, desperately vain and very emotional, to the point he'll burst in to tears quite frequently. And he still feels far too human and removed from an ancient alien traveller who sees all of time, all the time. Overall one of the better episodes from a so far underwhelming season which started very well but sidelined itself by switching focus from the story to trying to be clever and emotional. Another hood episode. The first two duds are becoming a distant memory.
Good to see a dedication to William Russell at the end of the credits. |

The clowning fan theories about the returning monster for the finale are starting to seem more and more credible going by that next time trailer

I was wondering for ages who one of the holograms was. Interesting move to include Richard E Grant then and there must be a reason for it

Genuinely think that's just a power move from RTD to canonise more Doctors and piss people off that moaned about the Morbius Doctors

Bridgerton is not for me at all so I was slightly worried about this one (and it annoyed me how much they referenced it, yeah we get it and it's not the only period drama!), but actually turned out to be really good. It was refreshing to have a simple standalone historical episode that was both fun and amusing and also having genuine threat and having some good insight into the characters themselves.
I don't think the villains themselves were the strongest, especially when they monologued at the end (definitely a weakness of the season so far), but they served their purpose and used the setting and aesthetic to their advasntage, and the final twist was Ruby was genuinely quite tense. I don't think Rogue was the strongest personality, but I liked the storyline not the least cos it will piss off the Doctor Woke idiots and it shows the loneliness of the Doctor and how he is craving that attachment. I think my favourite was the last scene where, assuming Ruby had been killed, he almost instantly switched to want them all dead without thinking about his no-kill rule and ended up almost being responsible for his companion being banished forever. It is very clear this is a Doctor very much flawed by his own emotional reactions and attachments, but this is very clearly not misunderstanding the character and intentional and I think it serves as a nice contrast to the similar PTSD-affected Nine. I'm so glad that those first two episodes were a false start, this has been a more consistent season than some of Moffat's so far and I just hope they stick the landing with the last two! |

I really enjoyed this. I wasn't sold on Rogue (the character) to begin with, but he got me by the end. I enjoyed exploring this Doctor's romantic side too. Also I was shook to see Richard E Grant there and immediately took to the internet to see the reaction in hope that somebody knew WHY. This show always keeps the fans guessing.
I loved seeing Paul Forman in another acting role. That man is a tall glass of water INDEED. I'm so pleased that this series has been consistently enjoyable so far (bar the first episode which still ranks as one of Russell's worst imo.) |

This was definitely the best episode by far, really enjoyed all of the side characters. I’m still missing more of a dynamic between the Doctor and Ruby though, which imo is the key part of the show. They’ve barely even interacted over the last 3 episodes.
