Outrageous | 5.583 Highest Scores: 9: (Nick Jonas), Lowest Scores: -1: (TimConArtist) Kicking off this countdown at #50 is Britney's most recent(ish) offering Mind Your Business, released through Epic Records in July 2023 alongside American rapper/singer will.i.am, which makes this their 4th collaboration following "Big Fat Bass" (2011), "Scream & Shout" (2012), and "It Should Be Easy" (2013). The song was recorded many years ago and upon its release it received mostly negative reviews from critics and fans. Was there really any other contender for the bottom placement on here given its paltry average of 1.9 thanks to its multiple bad scores and all around awful reception. The song is BAD plain and simple, its dated, flat and just creates an unpleasant listening experience, this should have never seen the light of day and stayed locked away in the vaults and throw away the key. #49 is Ooh La La, released in June 2013 for the soundtrack to the 'Smurfs 2' soundtrack. The song was intended to become Lola Blanc's debut single who was one of the song's many co-writers as it was a play on her name. However, upon the request of producer Dr. Luke, a deal was made in which Britney was allowed to record the track. He collaborated with additional writers to rewrite some lyrics into a more child-friendly nature. Upon release the song wasn't a big success by reaching a top 40 peak in Canada & hit minor peaks in Japan, USA, Italy, UK, France, & Germany. Not the worst thing Britney's ever recorded, but she deserves better than this awful sickly sweet boring soundtrack fodder to an awful kids movie. #48 is the misguided Pretty Girls which features Australian rapper Iggy Azalea & was released as a standalone single in May 2015. The song was originally intended to be included on Iggy's then upcoming 2nd studio album, but was ultimately scrapped when she decided to go in another direction. Upon release it received mixed to positive reviews & became a moderate commercial success by hitting top 20 peaks in UK, Canada, Hungary, & South Korea as well as top 30 peaks in the USA, France, & Australia. In a Twitter Q&A with fans in the following month, Azalea expressed her desire to have done additional promotion and television performances to support the song commercially. Not only was this a jarring rehash of Iggy's own hit 'Fancy', but it also failed attempt at trying to keep Britney relevant in the digital age. It's easy to see why this didn't connect as its lacking that certain special something & the fact that Iggy was only a big name in 2014, & this came out in 2015, a year too late. #47 is Matches, which features American boyband Backstreet Boys & featured on the deluxe reissue of Britney's 9th studio album Glory, where it was released in December 2020 as the 5th and final single overall. The song was originally intended for the group's 9th studio album DNA, but it was left off the final tracklisting and was later repurposed to be a collaboration with Britney. The track was produced by Michael Wise and Ian Kirkpatrick and co-written by Asia Whiteacre and Justin Tranter. A fun little throwback bop, but honestly expected something better considering its Britney Spears & Backstreet Boys collaborating together, its very short and feels very stitched together, you can see why this was left on the cutting room floor. The final song of this batch at #46 is Outrageous, released in July 2004 as the 4th & final single from Britney's 4th studio album In The Zone & was written and produced by R. Kelly, with vocal production provided by Trixster and Penelope Magnet. The song was the record label's choice for first or second single, but Britney pushed for "Me Against the Music" and "Toxic" respectively, to be released instead. It was finally announced as a single after it was selected as the theme song for the 2004 film Catwoman. The music video ended up being scrapped as well as remainder of The Onyx Hotel Tour and the feature in the Catwoman soundtrack due to Britney's knee injury. Not as fondly remembered as the other fantastic singles from this era, probably due to it being seen as cursed due to Britney's knee injury which cancelled all future plans , namely the fan-favourite 'Breathe On Me' being lined up as a future single. Other than that though this song just isn't all that great and feels very dated and forgettable, despite some funky banging beats. It just wasn't a great single choice overall and there were far better tracks that could have taken it's place. |

Deserved last place for 'Mind Your Business'! That makes even 'Vulgar' look like a masterpiece.
'Pretty Girls' whilst far from her best isn't that bad, she definitely has a few worse than it. 'Outrageous' is vile, and robbed 'Breathe On Me' of an opportunity to shine. |

Britney's version was released as the 4th European single from her 3rd studio album Britney in May 2002. The song was also used in her 2002 starring movie 'Crossroads' & has publicly stated that the original song is one of her favourites. She listened to the original Arrows Mickie Most-produced version just before she recorded the song, Britney mistakenly attributed the hit version of the song to Pat Benatar instead of Joan Jett. Upon release it performed moderately on the charts worldwide by reaching top 10 peaks in Hungary, Germany, Ireland & Austria, as well as top 20 peaks in Australia, UK, Belgium, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Finland, & Italy. While this cover version was a fun moment in the 'Crossroads' movie itself & that fun was carried over into the studio version as well, however, as a single it felt rather unnecessary, despite this Britney does a decent job with this version as her vocals are good & the production is okay, but other than that to this day it stands as one of Britney's least fondly remembered singles. At #44 is the first tie-breaker with Someday (I Will Understand), released in August 2005 as the sole single from Britney's first extended play Britney & Kevin: Chaotic& was was written by Britney herself and produced by Guy Sigsworth. She wrote the song two weeks before knowing she was pregnant with her first child, Sean Preston Federline. Upon release it wasn't given a UK or USA release, instead it was given a limited worldwide release where it became quite successful by reaching top 10 peaks in Denmark, Sweden & Switzerland, as well as charting in several other Europeon countries. While it never became a career defining song for Britney, its still an interesting and personal offering from her back catalogue, with its stunning stripped back production and very sincere vocals. Not one of Britney's best by any means, but it does have a nice sentiment to it. At #43 & scoring the same as the previous entry, but placed higher due to it having more high scores is another Britney tear-jerking ballad From The Bottom of My Broken Heart, released in December 1999 as the 5th and final single from Britney's debut album Baby One More Time & was written and produced by Eric Foster White. Upon release this song was chosen as the final single for the American & Australian market, while 'Born To Make You Happy' was released as the album's final single in Europe. The track achieved moderate success by reaching a #14 peak in the USA, which was it's highest chart peak, then managed top 40 peaks in Australia, Canada & New Zealand. This is a nice slow toe tapping ballad with gentle guitar beats, nice breezy production, and Britney's engaging heartfelt performance is what really sells this track from becoming yet another forgettable 90's teen pop ballad. Yes this was a minor mishap on the record label's front by choosing this over the far superior 'Born To Make You Happy' for the American market, but at least it didn't do any damage to her career, as she would continue to soar after this for many, many years. Heading into the 6 averages now with Tom's Diner in at #42. Originally sung by Suzanne Vega in 1987, record producer Giorgio Moroder covered this track featuring vocals by Britney Spears for his 14th studio album Deja Vu & was released as the 4th and final single from that project in October 2015.Despite being a non-single track at that time, it became Moroder's best-selling digital song to date, debuting and peaking at number 38 on the Billboard Dance/Electronic Songs chart, and number fourteen on the Billboard Dance/Electronic Digital Songs chart, during the album's release. Moroder's stomping beats and dramatic strings really compliments Britney's vocals quite well & makes this one of her most intruiging recordings of her career. Maybe if this got more mainstream attention then it would have been more remembered and more popular. Rounding off this bunch is the first of many Britney chart toppers to feature here with S&M (Remix). Released in January 2011 as a Rihanna solo track first as the 3rd single from her mammoth 5th studio album Loud & after it reached #2 on the US Billboard charts, a remix featuring Britney was released & with the combined sales of the solo version, it became Rihanna's 10th & Britney's 5th #1 hit on the chart. The song's new guest verses was written by Britney herself. The best version of this track is the Rihanna solo version. The remixed version featuring Britney herself felt very rushed with overly processed vocals that sounded jarringly out of place. At least there was that iconic performance at the Billboard Awards featuring both artists. |

Those results are looking pretty on point so far. I'd say 'Someday (I Will Understand)' is the only one I'd go out of my way to listen to from the bottom 10, got a bit of a soft spot for it.

That ILRNR cover is inexcusable! A massive, massive low point in her discography.
I actually think the Giorgio/Britney version of 'Tom's Diner' is pretty good, although admittedly I haven't gone back to it much since it was out. |
