So 2019 is looking to be Disney's Platinum age. Not only do they have a lot of films out (they usually have a fair few), but it's some of their biggest and most climactic titles all in one year. So big that an Aladdin remake feels like it's not a big deal, when usually it would be! Here's what we have to look forward to Captain Marvel (March) Dumbo (March) Avengers: Endgame (April) Aladdin (May) Toy Story 4 (June) The Lion King (July) Artemis Fowl (August) Maleficent 2 (October) Frozen 2 (November) Star Wars Episode 9 (December) The amount of money?! Dumbo may have under-performed a bit, but Captain Marvel already raced to a massive billion dollars worldwide, and Endgame has broken pre-booking records by a massive 5x! Toy Story 4, Lion King, Star Wars and Frozen are all surely going to be as big as Captain Marvel or bigger! I've put some polls in for discussion! |

I reckon Artemis Fowl will be a big flop for them, probably on the scale of A Wrinkle in Time.
I don't think Maleficent 2 will do too well for them either, probably 350m WW. This post has been edited by WhoOdyssey: Apr 11 2019, 01:01 PM |

I think Maleficent will do pretty well. The first one did way better than most expected. We'll need to wait until we see the first trailers to judge that one properly though.
Artemis for the flop. I can't see that doing any better than Dumbo to be honest. For everything else, the answer is Endgame. 2019 will belong to the Avengers, but The Lion King and Frozen are going to do big things too. I'll see both of them and Aladdin. I'm not bothered about Toy Story, which is shocking, but it looks like a rehash and Toy Story 3 was the perfect end so there's that. It'll still be huge though. I couldn't give less of a toss about Star Wars. This post has been edited by PaulM1983: Apr 11 2019, 01:44 PM |

The Lion King
Artemis Fowl Captain Marvel > Dumbo > Avengers Endgame > Toy Story 4 > The Lion King > Star Wars: Episode IX I think the TLK will obvz ope less than Avengers, but I feel like it's going to have the best longevity and with predicted big numbers I can see it just outshining Endgame. (Unless Endgame has better longevity than I think it will! - not that it wont have longevity ofc) |

The remakes of the animated films I feel they are just a bit under whelming, I actually prefer the animated originals, there is too much of them this year. I've only seen one of them that was Dumbo as I was dragged to it but for some reason I did enjoy it.

I've said The Lion King over Endgame for most successful, it could easily be the other way round, but The Lion King being released in time for the summer break I think may give it a chance of outgrossing it.
Artemis Fowl, what even? I didn't even know about that, that for biggest flop. I wouldn't be surprised if Aladdin goes the same way as Dumbo, it's got a muted response, Frozen 2 feels like it SHOULD be bigger atm, not that it will flop or be anywhere near that, but I'm not expecting a lot beyond the opening week. Toy Story 4 should still be big, remains to be seen if fatigue starts to hit it, I suppose it depends on the reviews. I will try and see The Lion King and Star Wars in the cinema, the rest I can probably wait/not bother. I'm not yet convinced Toy Story 4 is needed so my excitement's a bit below par even if it's one of my favourite movie franchises. |

Endgame will be huge initially - I suspect if it has real legs will depend on how good the film actually is. I do think this really is the *muse see* movie of the summer, especially if they get everything right.
I'd swap Toy Story 4 or Frozen 2 with Star Wars tbh Star Wars will be massive. How massive it is just depends on how good the film actually is. The Last Jedi recieved great reviews, but average audience reviews. I suspect Episode 9 with J.K Abrams will appease the fans more, but the critics less so. Toy Story 4 is guaranteed to do fantastic and likely Frozen 2 as both will have longevity due to being family films and spread with word of mouth. I think the key with Frozen 2 will be how good the soundtrack is, if they nail that then it will be massive. |

Not yet, but we did see Chicken Little in Disney Digital 3D back in January, and it was amazing - it actually made the movie quite enjoyable
Della and I are heading to the City next weekend to catch Nightmare - cant wait can you believe it - Della has never seen Nightmare - but it very intrigued after experiencing Haunted Mansion Holiday in Disneyland this year. |

Endgame and Star Wars will likely be the biggest selling movies of both their franchises history plus Frozen, Lion King AND Toy Story are three of the biggest animated franchises in history too.
Frozen 2 will outsell Toy Story 4 by a mile though, kids will drag parents to see Frozen whilst I think parents will drag kids to Toy Story Lion King is an all round favourite BUT live action lions fighting, pride rock burning, hyena nazis, etc might be a bit too graphic for a lot of families. Similarly though the rumours(?) of Elsa having a girlfriend could negatively affect how many parents willingly take their kids to see it because people are close minded and stupid. But then Elsa having a girlfriend will majorly boost its press coverage meaning more scope... so idk it could go either way. The same points can be made if she’s straight though or just not touched on which I think they will do to be safe tbh this is Disney Endgame is the culmination of like 22 movies which were for the most part all well received critically and commercially, fans adore the franchise and its an easily accessible superhero movie for non-diehard Marvel fans to enjoy just as much. Star Wars depends a lot on critics at this point and will need longevity to do well overall. It’ll outsell everything else 10 times over on release weekend but after that it’ll drop dramatically unless everyone goes home and talks about how great it was. Basically the same as what happened with Star Wars 7 (good), 8 (bad), Rogue One (good), Solo (bad). Good/bad in terms of reception I mean, as for the movies I’ve only seen SW7 oops 1. Endgame 2. Star Wars ~. Frozen 2 ~. Toy Story 4 ~. The Lion King |
