Adele has revealed that she is readying her third album for release next May.

The 'Someone Like You' star told The Sun that she is planning to include a cover of INXS's 'Never Tear Us Apart' on the LP.

"I have five tracks ready to go," Adele revealed. "One of them is quite upbeat - a real 'girl power' type of song."

The 22-year-old's long UK album chart reign was recently brought to an end by Lady GaGa, who scored the biggest first-week sales of the year.

Teasing the new collection, she continued: "I plan to do a cover of the INXS hit 'Never Tear Us Apart' which is probably my fave song of all time. The whole album will have quite a live feel to it."

Adele was recently praised by XL Recordings founder Richard Russell for refraining from the "selling of sexuality" in order to achieve chart success with her "really good music".

5 songs ready to go ohmy.gif I guess the rate she's working she can have a well earned break happy.gif

Posted by: THEO. 31st May 2011, 01:44 PM

She can have her "well-earned break" once she releases the 'Set Fire to the Rain' video and scores a top ten hit with it! mad.gif

But yay to hear news on it - I'd hope it's called '23' to continue the theme.

I hope this isn't out for a few years personally. Rushing on to another album after the huge success of another will cause her harm personally.

I hope it's called '23' as well. I like the album names being her age.

Posted by: XXXO 17th June 2011, 10:12 PM

I agree on the album title. But only because she started using her age as album names, now she should finish it.
I look forward to '76'.

Another article about album 3

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/news/a327595/adele-i-wont-release-another-album-if-im-happy.html

Sounds like she is going back to the 19 route. I prefer 19 to 21 so i will be very happy with that.

Posted by: Atonement 4th August 2011, 03:18 PM

I didn't know where to post this and didn't want to make a new thread but according to DigitalSpy she wants country music to influence her third album. Hail Adele if this is true, such a big artist going for my favorite genre. If anyone can make it big and heard, it is her. She's even going to Nashville! I'm so jealous of her in a way, I've wanted to go there as well for a while now.

I do hope it's not going to end up as one of those bandwagon things though (like dance-pop is now), that could kill the genre (just like dance-pop killed eurodance).

I saw it on CNN a few days ago.

Adele plans to go country for next album

For her third album, Brit hitmaker Adele plans to employ a country/bluegrass sound.

Although the singer may have had to reschedule most of her U.S. summer tour due to laryngitis, she kept busy absorbing American music styles, and wants to use what she's learned on her forthcoming album.

"I was exposed to a lot of country, rockabilly and bluegrass," she tells The Sun of her time in the States.

"The melodies and to-the-point lyrics I have found in a lot of American styles of music is definitely something I'm going to be pursuing heavily from now on." To pull it off, the singer wants to "spend some time in Austin in Texas and Nashville, Tennessee, and learn about it," she said.

Adele, 23, says that discovering American country musicians is "like [being]a four-year-old in a candy shop who's discovering sweets again."

The singer will have a huge audience for her country creation; her smash-hit sophomore album, “21,” has sold over 2.8 million copies, and is the top-selling album in the world so far this year.

Posted by: Charli 12th August 2011, 01:41 PM

I have to be honest I am quick to write off country songs, but on the other hand (in my opinion of course) artists have to show a progression in their work. Which I suppose Adele's doing with this album.

I actually agree that releasing the album next year might be a danger of overkill and could harm her sales more than benefit them.

Adele has revealed that she doesn't plan to release another album for another two to three years.

The singer admitted that she hasn't started work on her third studio LP and plans to "set up home" for a few years before she decides to release any new material.

Adele told Billboard: "I'm really looking forward to some time to do nothing. I imagine I'll be 25 or 26 by the time my next record comes out, as I haven't even thought about my third record yet.

"I'm just gonna lay some concrete, set up home and just 'be' for a bit. I'll disappear and come back with a record when it's good enough. There will be no new music until it's good enough and until I'm ready."

When asked if any work had started on the follow-up to 21, she simply responded: "Nope!"

Adele's second studio album has sold over 12 million copies across the globe since its release back in January this year.

But I wanted a 23. sad.gif

It's good that she'll be getting a rest though, especially after the problems with her voice this year.

Posted by: Karma 10th December 2011, 11:52 PM

Ofcourse she was going to rest, shes going to do the exact same thing she did with 19 and 21, build a massive wait and then come back with another huge album. 21 will still be top 40 anyway all of next year laugh.gif

Posted by: Bré 11th December 2011, 09:58 AM

I wasn't expecting her to put out an album next year but I didn't think we would have to wait that long sad.gif I presume this means the rumour she's doing the next Bond theme isn't true?

Posted by: Lukuzz 11th December 2011, 11:25 AM

2-3 years! Don't think I can cope that long without a new one!

Posted by: Frank! 12th December 2011, 12:07 AM

As long as the follow up is at least as good as 21, I don't mind the wait!

Posted by: slowdown73 4th January 2012, 05:11 PM

I thought the record company might put pressure on her to have another album out by the end of this year...to keep the current momentum going.

Posted by: aprilj 23rd January 2012, 06:20 PM

It may be smart to put the first single out the week of The Brits along with the live version. (SUREFIRE #1!)

As Theo (the mod) said in the other thread, stop spamming.

If you REALLY want your cover seen, make a thread in The Lounge called 'My cover of Never Tear Us Apart by INXS' or something and just say 'here's a cover of Never Tear Us Apart, please listen and I'd be grateful for any comments', because that's not spamming. There's little point in coming in here pretending it's a new Adele single because it's not.

Just read this article on Digital Spy!

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/news/a365697/adele-plans-five-year-break-from-music.html

I'm very surprised since she's only just really hit the big time. Maybe she should after album 3?

Posted by: Liаm 14th February 2012, 03:50 PM

It really doesn't surprise me.

She deserves a good long break tbh, but I don't want her gone for that long sad.gif

Posted by: THEO. 14th February 2012, 03:58 PM

In her interview with the Radio Times this week, she said that she plans on releasing the next one when she's 25 or 26 - I don't think there's a definite date for it set anywhere though.

Posted by: jkac 14th February 2012, 04:42 PM

I dont blame her. With all the problems she's had this year and she also said in her 60 minute interview she doesn't really like being hugely famous, so this will just give her a break.

Posted by: liamk97 14th February 2012, 04:57 PM

Adele has backtracked on her claim that she will take a five-year break from making music, revealing that she is heading "straight into the studio".

The 'Someone Like You' singer, who collected six Grammys at the weekend, told fans that she will be recording new material shortly after her appearance at the Brit Awards on February 21.

"I've a few days off now, and then it's the Brit Awards here at home and then I'm straight into the studio," Adele wrote on her official blog. "BOYYAHH! 5 years? More like 5 days!"

Adele also opened up about her triumph at the Grammy Awards, describing Sunday's (February 12) ceremony as the "most incredible night of [her]life".

"Oh goodness! I'm absolutely flabbergasted," she continued. "I keep having flashbacks to Sunday night. The most incredible night of my life. Thank you to you all, I am so overwhelmed, it's the strangest feeling. I have constant butterflies and goosebumps, it's wearing me out but I LOVE it!"

Adele apologised for forgetting to thank several important people when collecting her awards, explaining that she was "totally unprepared" to win.

"Despite the phenomenal year, I swear I didn't think I had any chance," she said. "All the categories were full of people I adore with brilliant songs, records and performances. So not in my wildest dreams did I think to actually prepare anything proper to say just in case."

Adele recently described her recovery from throat surgery as a "really peaceful" time.

Great news, let's hope she doesn't change her mind again tongue.gif Hopefully the Bond theme is still on the cards.

Posted by: Umi 15th February 2012, 07:17 PM

Bit worried she's recording for a re-release right now! I guess the "no more singles" thing makes sense if they are doing the new album already though. Q4 release, maybe?

Posted by: slowdown73 17th February 2012, 01:54 PM

I read somewhere that Adele has been laughing about all these rumours of her taking a 5 year break and its a load of non-sense. Infact, I read she is returning to the studio to record new songs for her next album. 5 years would be a very long break at a time when she is very popular.

Adele working with producers James Ford, Kid Harpoon on new album?
Monday, Apr 8 2013
By Tom Eames, Digital Spy

Adele is reportedly working with producers James Ford and Kid Harpoon on her next album.

The 'Skyfall' singer is back in the recording studio to work on the follow-up to her monster-hit LP 21, according to The Sun.

Florence + the Machine, Jessie Ware, Klaxons and the Arctic Monkeys are among the acts who have worked with the producers in the past.

"Adele wants to move with the times and is trying to make her new record sound as edgy as possible," a source claimed.

"The team she's assembled is first rate, and she's confident they can help match the success of her first two albums. It's no easy task, as the world will be desperate to hear it."

However, last month producer Ryan Tedder dismissed rumours that Adele was working on a new album.

The OneRepublic frontman - who wrote two songs for 21 - revealed that there are no writing sessions for a new LP yet, but he has "a couple of ideas" ready.

Adele was recently reported to have recorded a duet with Robbie Williams for his rumoured second swing album.

Sounds good to me - Florence + the Machine and Jessie Ware's sound don't seem to far from Adele's.

I do wonder if she might release it sometime this year. I know she said in an interview a couple of months ago that she hadn't started preparing it at all yet, but I honestly wouldn't be surprised if she's deliberately trying to throw people off the scent and stop hype building up and getting out of control.....we know how much she hates publicity. I honestly wouldn't be shocked to see her suddenly announce in October or something that the album is finished and will be out in 5 weeks' time. There was a report in the tabloids (yes, I know, but still) a while back that her American label had been told to prepare for a release at the end of 2013.

Posted by: liamk97 10th April 2013, 05:46 PM

Yeah, it could probably end up a similar story to the song Skyfall, where there was lots of rumours around and most people could pretty much tell it was happening, but nothing was confirmed to last minute. Blimey, an Adele album release in the Q4 would be massive! Perhaps sales like Dido's Life For Rent experienced back in 2003.

I think she needs to get on with it, I mean it is going to be almost 3 years after 21 this fall.

I wonder if she might "do a Beyonce" and just suddenly put it onsale one day out of nowhere. I could see her being exactly the type who'd want to do something like that, and skip the publicity/promotion/hype that would come with some big months-long build-up.

She'd have big competition here and in Europe with the new Take That record which will probably drop in November. Gary and Robbie are enjoying great solo sales and it's been 4 years since their last album sold over half a million in it's first week.

I'm fairly sure Emeli Sande will have at least a single out before the end of the year. They said she'd be on a break in 2013, yet she was still everywhere. I don't expect this year to be much different!

Back to Adele, she can take all the time she needs as long as it's the best work she's ever done!

Probably a Professor Green (if his album ever surfaces now) or Naughty Boy (apparently he's already at work on album #2) feature if anything, or maybe just a single to create some buzz ('Who Needs the World' is yet to happen), but I can't see it being anything from the next album campaign. Who?
I think the reason everyone talks about Beyoncé doing it like it's the best thing since sliced bread is because it was so unexpected for a popstar like her. Normally these mega stars ie. Britney, Beyoncé, P!nk, Lady Gaga etc do loads of promo. In a way it was a big risk to release Beyoncé in the way she did because those kind of popstars are so afraid of flopping.
tbf I don't think anybody has quite had the success Beyoncé did with a release like that, which is also the reason everyone associates that album release strategy with her now..

Anyway, hugely excited for this! although I'm unsure 21 can ever be topped

It is because she is the first huge star to do so, and has shown that this can work for the big names, that release strategy for big releases was basically unheard of, that's all. In this case, with Adele being a global star, it seems the most sensible to compare the scenario of her dropping a surprise album to Beyonce doing so, as it would show she has started a trend in mainstream big releases.

Adele is very overrated. Apart from the singles and one or two other songs on her last album, the rest of the tracks were pretty dull. I think she'll do well with whatever she returns with but its unlikely to sell anywhere near the dizzy heights of her last album.

Kidding, of course tongue.gif I'm sort of the opposite - given the album is on par with 21 (I'm doubting this because it'd have to be INCREDIBLE), then I wouldn't mind it having the number one spot for a long period of time kink.gif

I can't see it having QUITE as long at the top as '21' because more people are waiting for her material, due to '21' being a massive success! So more people will be willing to buy initially as opposed to holding out to hearing more singles etc... I can see her smashing a few "opening week" records or something.

Very true. Releasing a few weeks before Christmas will also have a massive impact. She needs to beat 763,735 (Oasis - Be Here Now) to get the all-time record for fastest selling album. Current top 10:

01. 763,735 Oasis - Be Here Now
02. 518,601 Take That - Progress
03. 464,471 Coldplay - X&Y
04. 432,490 Take That - The Circus
05. 411,820 Susan Boyle - I Dreamed A Dream
06. 400,351 Dido - Life for Rent
07. 375,872 Leona Lewis - Spirit
08. 373,832 Robbie Williams - Intensive Care
09. 363,735 Arctic Monkeys - What People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not
10. 360,000 U2 - Rattle and Hum

It would be a massive disappoint if she didn't get at least 400k opening in Q4 Christmas Rush coming off the hype of "21". Imo she SHOULD get #2 on the list, depending on the hype she could challenge for #1 on the all-time list.

Posted by: Jonjo 28th September 2014, 04:00 PM

Dependent on hype (she won't get those sales if it's a "Beyonce style" release, coz her older fanbase may not know it exists until the week after it's hit number 1 laugh.gif) but I can see her selling at least 400k first week? But then again, sales are SO much different I think that although she'll easily get the biggest opening sales of this year, I still won't be surprised if she "only" opens with 300k or less or something.

It's just too hard to predict nowadays with the current sales climate. It's impact culturally will be phenomenal though.

Praying she release'a then as I'll be back in the uk so will be able to buy a proper version of the album as in North Cyprus we don't have any sort of chart so all CD's are pirate copies & £1 each! But crap quality.

Posted by: Addy K!ng 28th September 2014, 07:15 PM

I am sure she will break some records for first week sales...if not overall record, at least she will knock out Susan Boyle and become the fastest selling album by female artist in first week.

It could be a place holder, I know they've done that for other artists, even when album release date hasn't been added yet. Amazon had Leona's Glassheart up for pre-order since late 2010 with the first date being March 2011 or something like that. So even if a date does pop up, don't take it too seriously.

What we know so far:

1. Diane Warren, Ryan Tedder, Paul Epworth and Phil Collins have all been confirmed to be working/have worked with Adele
2. Kelly Clarkson has stated she believes Adele is going for a country sounding album. This would make sense given the last song recorded for 21 was Don't You Remember, which was inspired by said music.
3. The release is expected anytime between now and the end of the year unless XL push the release back again.
4. Rumours indicate towards a Beyoncé style unexpected release.

Posted by: Ninjabait 7th July 2015, 11:38 PM

I'm both incredibly excited and incredibly wary about this. On the one hand, it's frickin' Adele, so there's a good chance it'll turn out incredibly awesome. On the other hand, what we've heard of the production has kinda been all over the place and that worries me a bit. Oh well, wait and see.

And, on the subject of Pharrell, he may not be producing on this album per se, but could be co-writing or working as a guest vocalist. That's a theory I've seen being tossed around a bit, so thought I'd mention it. As far as release dates go, some places (last I saw was HITS Daily Double on June 12th) have said it'll be released after the Grammy deadline (so October at the earliest), while others (last was the mirror on April 30th) have said it might be out in September. I tried lurking the Facebook page for more info, but the last thing it posted was in March (also, I saw some random guy trying to sell pot on a wall post there (???)). The official Twitter also produced nothing interesting. So, basically just rumors and theories and conflicting information. Sigh.

And honestly, at this point, an announcement that she's joining Tool wouldn't be too far fetched to me.

Eh, it doesn't seem like that's the case. Both the articles mentioned those dates as a possible release period for the album and haven't mentioned anything about singles so far. If anything, I'd wager that a single would either come out sometime in the next three months, depending on which month the album is planned to be released. Unless everything I've read so far is a lie and it's coming out right now as I'm typing this oh my gosh I need a basin of hot water and some towels STAT. Someone find a doctor! We're delivering this thing. Oh wait, no, sorry, that was just gas. False alarm, everyone, carry on.

And I think being enigmatic is helping her quite a bit, considering that 25 has been the most requested album on Amazon in the past 20 years.

I read that as well. I just wish something concrete would surface as it's been far too long! laugh.gif

According to some Adele fansite (which I retweeted, lol) the album is set for release November 8th (huh.gif) and the lead single is titlted "Like I Could". Surely releases are on a Friday and the 8th is a Sunday?

Posted by: Ninjabait 15th August 2015, 07:38 PM

So, I went around Googling for info on it, and the general consensus among news outlets at the moment (from an unidentified source) is that the album is pretty much finished outside of some mixing and planning the final track list. There are 20 possible tracks to be included, and they're still thinking of doing an international surprise release on iTunes in October or November (I saw some places say "before Thanksgiving" and "September" (!) as possibilities). I also googled around, and "Like I Could" doesn't seem to be a rarity or unreleased song or anything of the sort, so that may be possible.

I did check iTunes just to be safe, and I can 100% confirm that it's not there right now. Finally some solid, reliable information.

The consensus among most media does seem to be September - but even rewinding to the end of last year Adele said not to believe everything you read so who are we to take this as believable? I am hoping she goes for a "deluxe version" with 25 tracks on to mirror the supposed album title but I can only hold my breath for that laugh.gif

It appears Adele is finally ready to reclaim her throne. According to Billboard, the UK singer-songwriter will release her long-awaited third studio album in November through XL Recordings.

Intrigued by her collaborators. I was wondering whether she'd stick to her tried-and-tested sound but I'm kind of happy that it doesn't seem to be the case. It's a kind of eclectic mix of collaborators though—Max, Danger Mouse, Tobias Jesso, Jr.—so it could potentially be great or it could be all over the place.

The radio 1 Friday guest is being REALLY bigged up. My theory is that Adele's lead single is out this week and we'll find out tomorrow. I can't think of a guest that's being hyped up this much, and with Adele's comeback being such a big talking point this weekend... Also, Fluer moved her song back a week, I wonder if it's because the record label don't want it getting lost in the Adele hype.

I have no proof of course, but we'll see.

I feel like, as much as i really enjoyed '21' this will be a whole lot more relatable to me. The way she has described the record as one of growing up, but not quite being an adult, mourning the past, regrets... - i think it will speak huge volumes to me and loads of others of course (much like the break-up aspects of '21' (which i couldn't relate to as much having never gone through such a thing~)). This is going to be huge and it hasn't even begun yet.

Posted by: CallumDC 22nd October 2015, 04:57 PM

I'm interested to know which songs are about her partner/son and which song is her song that she believes in and is proud of like with previous songs Hometown Glory & Someone Like You.

EDIT: Wikipedia says the album was recorded in 2015. I'm sure the recording of it dates back to 2013?

I was indeed just playing up to the fresh hype that she has been receiving since the advert and how her name is already inescapable. I of course knew it was going to be big 6 months ago...but even despite that, what I originally wrote still says a whole lot more than this quoted post does tongue.gif

No album let alone an Adele album will topple my love for 21 but I do have high expectations for this - ideally I want this to be better than 19 but we'll see.

When I first listened to 21 I was a little disappointed it was so ballad heavy but I hadn't given it a proper listen but its up there as one of my fave albums ever so I cannot wait for this to drop!

I just hope its worth the wait!

Posted by: slowdown73 22nd October 2015, 09:25 PM

A lot of people seem to be under the impression this will do well but I'm not totally convinced it will be as big as people are expecting. A lot has changed in the past few years in terms of album sales steeply declining and then the impact of streaming. Just look at Take That - album sales of III are only a quarter or less of their last album.

It won't sell as well as as 21, simply because album sales have declined so much. But I think it'll still be as successful, if that makes sense? It'll still be number 1 for several weeks with huge sales (by today's standards). She'll sell really well on hype over the first few weeks but the rest of it counts pretty much on the quality of the music. 21 went 16x platinum, but I think by today's standards 6 - 9x platinum would be seen as just as successful, as it's all relative to the sales climate of a particular period.

Well if you want to get into comments being unnecessary then I'm pretty sure nothing barring info about a release is essential in any thread, and let's not even get into how pointless an argument about how valuable a particular post is to a topic is (that would probably cause BuzzJack to implode).

Of course my post was inessential, almost every post on every forum is. But it said something, even if it was negative, and that's more than any "I'm excited! I have no further thoughts!" post.

I don't think it will sell as much as 6-9 X platinum. It might sell a million this year but this will depend on the success of the first single and how well it's perceived.

I completely disagree with that first part and I'm shocked it's come from you given you've always been one to stimulate good discussion on the forum and not just post mindless stats about release dates unsure.gif

And not sure if the second part refers to me, because you initially quoted me and I commented on your post but regardless I said a lot more than just "I am excited!!1" - you picked out the final few words of my post and just said how unimportant they were while ignoring the paragraph before it:

I feel like, as much as i really enjoyed '21' this will be a whole lot more relatable to me. The way she has described the record as one of growing up, but not quite being an adult, mourning the past, regrets... - i think it will speak huge volumes to me and loads of others of course (much like the break-up aspects of '21' (which i couldn't relate to as much having never gone through such a thing~)). This is going to be huge and it hasn't even begun yet.

Industry handicappers now believe Queen of Pop Adele could see a debut in the neighborhood of 2m for her new full-length, 25 (due 11/20 on XL/Columbia). The set has scored 250k+ in preorders across all vendors in its first five days and remains parked atop the iTunes album chart around the globe (85 countries made it #1 as soon as the preorder phase began on Friday). Can it hit 300k before the week is out?

Single “Hello,” also released last Friday, now looks certain to move 1m+ in its first week—which would give it the second-biggest first week in the modern era (behind Elton John’s “Candle in the Wind” in 1997, which sold 3.4m first week) and the biggest of the digital era. It flew to #1 at iTunes in 77 countries upon release.

“Hello” broke the all-time add record according to Mediabase with 347 adds across all formats. Views for the stylish, black-and-white video were off the chart, as Adele quickly racked up north of 100m on YouTube and getting a record-smashing 27m Vevo views in 24 hours. It instantly became the #1 song at Shazam. Naturally, it scored the the #1 spot on the U.K.’s Official Singles Chart.

"Hello" also set the single-day U.S. streaming record on Saturday with a whopping 2.3m total streams. The previous record-holder was “Drag Me Down” by Columbia labelmate One Direction, with 1.8m U.S. in its first day.

Adele will have a number of big TV looks around her release, with SNL on 11/21, a Radio City Music Hall special taping on 11/17 for her NBC prime time special and Fallon and Today appearances TBA.

Will all this add up to a double-platinum chart bow? Hard to say for sure—but so far the indicators are mighty strong.

Could there be a chance of '25' actually beating *NSYNC's record for highest one-week album sales in the USA? I think they did something like 2.4 million so still a fair bit higher than the current projection, but projections for Adele tend to just go up and up as time goes by.

I'm assuming Black Friday will fall into its second week so it could have a second mega-mega week of sales then as well.

"When we were you" sounds great, but I hope she doesn't completely go down the Céline Dion route on this album. I want more surprising songs like "Rolling in the deep" and stuff from "19". She's truly AMAZING at ballads and she's also way to creative to only make ballads.

Hi, hasn't Adele done her most contemporary sounding pop song ever on this album with send my love? You doubt her too much.

The sentiment is beautiful absolutely but think that is Adele all over, music to tug on the heartstrings heart.gif wub.gif

I think (massive emphasis on think) the song is about her Grandad - might be wrong! My favourite lyric though would probably be the "it was just like a movie, it was just like a song". So simple but so stunning cry.gif wub.gif

Yeah it is lovely but I am kind of surprised by the sound of it as it was described as a "disco ballad" in the earlier album reviews. Makes me think that the production may be rather different to the way it is on that performance. As much as I think the performance is beautiful, I would quite like to hear what on earth an Adele "disco ballad" actually sounds likes laugh.gif.

It definitely has nothing on 'Hello' either.

My local music shop Head has already had copies of 25 delivered (though obviously not out on sale yet). Point is, it's surely only a matter of time before somebody leaks it... (not necessarily from there of course but another retailer who's got early copies laugh.gif)

Posted by: MishaB 17th November 2015, 04:10 PM

I don't think they needed to release the full song of When We Were Young before the album release, it was unnecessary. In fact, I think the lyric is kind of off-putting to the younger generation. Nevertheless, it's a beautiful song and in instant classic that I'm sure will be played in weddings and funerals for years to come.

Posted by: Jaÿ 17th November 2015, 04:40 PM

The video has created a lot of hype about another song, right before the album's release... it's a good move! She didn't need to put it out but I'm glad she did because it's actually increased my excitement for 25.

Maybe the sentiment of the song will be alien to some, but a lot of themes aren't completely universal. Adele doesn't need to be cautious about what she writes about just in case her lyrics are off-putting to youngsters, because that's not a target market for her that she has to rely on... her market is pretty much everyone. Anyone around her age or older will completely understand the feeling of time marching on / reminiscing about times/people that are becoming distant memories. I appreciate that she's explored this theme in her lyrics.

Posted by: MishaB 17th November 2015, 05:37 PM

I think the song is beautiful but no one can tell me that the song is kind of off-putting to her younger fans. It's a fact. I'm not saying that her younger fans won't buy her album because of it, but I just think putting the song out before the album release was unnecessary.

Although I see 25's iTunes preorder positions have all increased so maybe it was a good mood. Also #WhenWeWereYoung is a top trend on Twitter. The reaction has been positive I suppose.

Posted by: Regina 17th November 2015, 05:52 PM

Do you know all of her younger fans? No. So it's not a fact.

Posted by: Conderella 17th November 2015, 07:07 PM

Regina stop pestering younger fans! Mishab conducted nationwide research to base her deductions upon! I mean more than 10 hours passed since it was released to the public! Its not like this was just a wild assumption that based on one persons perception! No one will dare say 'it's a fact' unless they have concrete proof or results of a thorough research regarding the matter. Silly silly Regina!

Posted by: Conderella 17th November 2015, 07:11 PM

My research regarding this is as follows.

Young people don't listen to song lyrics. I think mishab is way too old to remember that for herself or something. They like what is in at the moment. Adele is huge and therefore is IN. Young people like Adele. Young people buy Adele. The end.

'When We Were Young' is gorgeous. Lyrically and melodically it connected immediately with me, unlike 'Hello' which I find hugely impressive but still in a sort of detached way.

Her live vocals are just something else! So captivating and packed with emotion. wub.gif

Posted by: Envoirment 17th November 2015, 08:49 PM

The album is phenominal based on the snippets, I can see this outperforming 21 if they play their cards right. The album campaign will keep going well into 2017 (when the album is eligible for grammys). Can't wait to track all the huge sales and records Adele breaks with it.

Posted by: burbe 17th November 2015, 08:53 PM

It's a very solid album. Send My Love is so pop for Adele! I can definitely see it becoming a single at some point.

Water Under The Bridge is incredible! wub.gif

Posted by: MishaB 17th November 2015, 09:00 PM

This is a massive evolution for Adele and it's going to undoubtedly isolate a lot of people who bought 21, but it's incredible. In my opinion, based on just the 2 minute snippets, this is her best and most experimental album to date.

Send my love sounds like a radio hit.

My top 5 (so far):

1. I miss you
2. Send my love
3. River Lea
4. Water Under The Bridge
5. When we were young

At least now people can stop bringing that 'she never evolves' argument up. 25 sounds, as a whole, nothing like 21 or 19.

'Water Under The Bridge', 'River Lea', 'I Miss You', 'Million Years Ago' and 'Sweetest Devotion' are actually all killing me right now. All so so bloody fantastic.

I'm not even kidding, from these snippets this shits all over '21'. The production is on another level and it is actually much more experimental than I was expecting, I can really hear artistic growth here. The only song I don't think it pays of with is 'Send My Love (To Your New Lover)' which sticks out as the worst of the snippets.

I honestly didn't expect her to come through THIS hard. Stanning rn.

XL have probably worked endlessly to get most of the sites/links taken down laugh.gif

Based on the snippets having listened in order of the tracklist now I'd have to say my favourites are:

1. Send My Love (To Your New Lover): SUCH "Rumour Has It" vibes and I love the sass
2. Water Under The Bridge: Absolutely LOVE the fact Kurstin is on this especially after his work with Kelly C, beautiful!
3. River Lea: Very catchy, if not more catchier than SMLTYNL
4. Love In The Dark: Definitely a progression from 21 and can see this going far as a favourite out of her entire discography

Reading through Twitter and some fans who attending an album listening party are claiming Angelo's (her son, incase you've been living under a rock for three years) laugh can be heard on Sweetest Devotion.

Posted by: Davidson 18th November 2015, 08:04 PM

Album rate on first listen:

11.0 Hello - one of the best songs of the year, keeping it as my 11 for now but that could well change as the album really settles in
06.0 Send My Love (To Your New Lover) - meh, growing a bit since snippet but it still reminds me of Lily Allen's 'Air Balloon' which is unforgivable
09.5 I Miss You - love the production on this, it is so Florence-like. chorus becomes so much more anthemic as the song goes on
08.5 When We Were Young - obviously an incredibly strong ballad but is not the most exciting on the record for me
08.0 Remedy - didn't think much of this one when I listened to the snippet last night but it is actually rather melodic and beautiful in full
10.0 Water Under The Bridge - this is the kind of upbeat Adele I want, not SML, the overall feel is so so perfect
09.5 River Lea - i knew that danger mouse wouldn't let us down with the production, the chorus is so catchy and it just sounds big
07.5 Love In The Dark - i'm a real sucker for violins and especially love the instrumental part. not as memorable as most of the rest though
10.0 Million Years Ago - everything about this is so perfect. melody in droves, she does this kind of thing outstandingly
08.0 All I Ask - not my favourite as i feel like it slightly leans into cheesy territory, especially with the key change. had to still stick with an 8 as its a superbly crafted chorus
09.0 Sweetest Devotion - like the fact the pace picks back up again slightly for the album closer. another immediate favourite. her voice works so well on these HUGE productions

so so good. slay my life godele.

"Sweetest Devotion" is more than I ever imagined an Adele song could be. It's hit me so hard I think it'll go down as one of my favourites of this year. Sounds ridiculous but it's almost giving me "Yoü and I" teas (I bloody love "Yoü and I").

Posted by: Hayzayy 19th November 2015, 10:30 AM

I f***ing love this album already, and it only took me 2 or 3 listens to remember what every single song sounds like, they're all very distinctive and the quality is strong.
"All I ask" made me cry all night, though. cry.gif

I don't get the "make up album" description though, it's as depressive/emotionnal as "21" was. Which is fine for me because that's what she's best at.

At the halfway mark of my first listen so I'll post my initial thoughts. My dedication to stay up for this given I have work at 6am meaning I have to be up at 4am says a lot laugh.gif

1. Hello

Still loving this nearly a month after it was released. Perfect album opener!

2. Send My Love To Your New Lover

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! I really can see this being the girl empowerment track that Ryan Tedder mentioned in an interview (last year?), so catchy and loving the guitar thing shes got going on.

3. I Miss You

Definitely took me a bit longer to get into this and wasn't as instant as the first two tracks. The chorus is definitely where the main hook is for me.

4. When We Were Young

Me and a friend were getting nostalgic about this yesterday when discussing how and the album while absolutely loving the sentinment. Given this song is a main song in the theme I'd have put it after Hello or even as track three, but who am I to question Godele Adkins? First point of crying too in the whole listening so far cry.gif

5. Remedy

As far as opening lines go, definitely one of my favourite Adele lyrics. However overall this is probably my least favourite so far as I think the chorus is a bit underwhelming.

6. Water Under The Bridge

The beat and rhythem to this made me sit up a little bit. Once that chorus hits it's definitely a step back in the right direction after Remedy. I'd love a backing choir for this song if performed live.

"Million Years Ago" really reminds me of Mariah's "My All". Love it!

Currently playing through the album in full and "Water Under The Bridge"/"When We Were Young"/"Million Years Ago" are my favourites at the moment.

Posted by: SeanGrey 20th November 2015, 12:59 AM

7. River Lea

GROOVY. Such a sweet little bop. Maybe a bit repetitive but then again so was Rumour Has It which was just as much of an album moment on 21!

8. Love In The Dark

I can see this going so far in my Adele favourite tracks in no time whatsoever. The lyrics about being oceans apart and space are just beautiful, especially the "everything changed me" part, so stunning. This sounds like it could be on 21 somewhere between Turning Tables and Set Fire To The Rain and the instrument breakdown later on in the track is PERFECT.

9. Million Years Ago

Not overly moved or excited by this song. I really hope this doesn't turn into a Don't You Remember for me and take years for me to appreciate it as it isn't exactly a bad vocal or anything, just wish it was something more exciting than first listened. Lovesong teas from this as well but this is the first song since track four where I can see the theme of the album coming through.

10. All I Ask

Was very surprised when I saw Bruno Mars' name crop out has I don't think I'd ever put him and Adele in the same sentence! The delivery and lyrics on this one are spot on as well! THE ENDING OF THE SONG IS BEAUTIFUL TOO.

11. Sweetest Devotion

Can we hear Angelo on this track!? Loving the country vibe to this but this is very middle of the table for me in terms of album favourites on first listen.

Great album but I won't lie I am a little bit annoyed she didn't attempt a cover for this album! The standout moments for me are Hello, Send My Love (To Your New Lover), When We Were Young, River Lea and Love In The Dark. Love in The Dark, Send My Love or When We Were Young possible contenders for my favourite track though.

Water Under The Bridge's production sounds so much like Jessie Ware's Champagne Kisses!

My favourites from the first play are: 'Water Under The Bridge', 'Million Years Ago' & 'All I Ask'.
The ultimate is 'All I Ask'.. it sounds like such a timeless ballad, so beautiful. Such emotion.

Remedy has grown on me so much over the last few hours but still not feeling Million Years Ago or Sweetest Devotion.

Current rankings which will change because y'know laugh.gif

11/10: Sweetest Devotion & Million Years Ago
9: All I Ask
8/7: Remedy and I Miss You
6: Water Under The Bridge
5/4: Hello and River Lea
3: Send My Love (To Your New Lover)
2: When We Were Young
1. Love In The Dark

That top two could really change but right now Love In The Dark is REALLY leading the way, absolutely incredible. Just got my physical copy, the inside artwork is just beautiful.

Never do I want to hear this album again. This is all they had playing today at work! Heard it 4 times round. Not good for someone who isn't really THAT into her in the first place haha.

I'm sure I'll give it another (proper) listen at some point but I just can't deal right now! Would've preferred to have heard this and have it switch with 'NOW 92'. BLEHHHHH.

Posted by: Regina 20th November 2015, 05:11 PM

This is a pretty dull album, typical Adele fodder with a few production changes, I really do not see the mass appeal in this woman. There are so many other
people doing the same kind of music to a much high standard. Urgh, the months of undeserved hype and praise she's gonnn get :/

Posted by: Common Sense 20th November 2015, 06:14 PM

Send My Love (To Your New Lover) is great, what a catchy chorus.

Posted by: PeaceMob 20th November 2015, 07:09 PM

My favourite tracks from the album are "I Miss You", "Love In The Dark", "All I Ask", and of course "When We Were Young". I can hear hints of Massive Attack for "I Miss You", early 90's Mariah in "All I Ask" and "Million Years Ago". Slowly Adele is fine-tuning 'her sound' but she's not there yet, it makes me excited for future albums from her. Also I'd love to hear a completely country album from her, "Don't You Remember" really shows her potential in that genre. I was hoping she was going to go down that road with 25 but hopefully one day she'd consider it.

Anyway 25 is really good, some great moments, not as good as 21 but that is a one-of-a-kind album so to top that was always a big ask.

Posted by: BrookeOlivia 20th November 2015, 07:50 PM

Her sales in America look like there going to be crazy amounts, 3 million first week is possible over there now.

HDD: 2M+ a lock, Adele sales unlike anything we've ever seen
Regarding the early first-day response to the new Adele album, 25, the term “feeding frenzy” doesn’t sufficiently describe what's happening here in the States—and presumably around the world.

Early sales are unlike anything we've seen in the modern era. At this point, 2m+ is a lock. Can it break the 2.4m first week record? Can it hit 3m? Stay tuned.

Unsurprisingly, 25 is now the best selling album of the year on Amazon.

Posted by: Noahspike 21st November 2015, 02:50 AM

Had a listen to the album when I was out and about earlier and, while there were some amazing highs, I was a bit underwhelmed at times and didn't think it worked particularly well in its entirety, much like '21' actually. However, I wasn't exactly in the mood to be bowled over by a heart-wrenching ballad while on a packed bus/walking around busy streets in the freezing cold laugh.gif so I'll sit down and devote more attention to it soon to form a proper opinion.

Initial incoherent thoughts:
- 'Hello' is such a perfect album opener and reintroduction to her music, both thematically and just in terms of its sheer magnitude. Listening to it as part of the album really made me appreciate it on a new level - what a huge statement of intent.
- 'Send My Love (To Your New Lover)' is a really interesting direction for her, but I hope it's not chosen as a single as I can already see me tiring of it quickly. The lilting chorus, while very catchy, has the potential to get annoying with radio exposure I think.
- 'When We Were Young' is utterly sublime and a strong contender for my favourite song on the album. Her live vocal is very close to replicating the studio version (unsurprisingly).
- 'Remedy' is so bland :/. Maybe I'm being too harsh and its appeal will reveal itself in time but it feels like the song has been done to death previously and this offers nothing new. My least favourite on first listen.
- 'Water Under The Bridge' is a real standout. It put me in mind of 'Set Fire To The Rain' in feeling like the reliable pop hit of the album. Surely a future single.
- I had similar thoughts about 'Love In The Dark' to the above, but to a lesser degree. Another well-crafted track with instant appeal.
- 'All I Ask' reminded me of something I couldn't place. All I could think of was loved-up 90s ballad so the Mariah comparisons are probably spot on. While nice, it didn't sound like my thing at all...but again, I wasn't quite in the right frame of mind for it!
- The songs I haven't mentioned were enjoyable - lots of sonic variation and the production throughout kept things interesting. I've a feeling there's some great stuff I'm yet to really appreciate, especially as I wasn't concentrating on lyrical content too much.

I'll definitely give it all a proper listen very soon but for now I feel 'When We Were Young' and 'Water Under The Bridge' (as well as 'Hello') are the big highlights of a solid overall effort. It's certainly not undeserving of the massive attention it's getting.

After a couple of listens, I think this a strong album and there's not a sole track I dislike.

21 had higher highs I think but I always essentially classed it as a 6 song album as I never listened to the others. 25 will almost certainly suffer in comparison but I think that's because, like me, people forget about the other tracks on 21 that weren't as great.

Posted by: dandy* 21st November 2015, 02:39 PM

Oh and my one grumble is that Send My Love is far too early in the track listing, it jars after Hello and works better as a track 6 kinda song with the others shunted a spot earlier.

900k first day in the US on iTunes only http://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6770264/adele-25-nsync-no-strings-attached-nielsen-soundscan-billboard-charts

Once you take into account it had 100k amazon pre-orders and sales at other retailers (Target in particular), it's most likely sold 1.2 million+ on its first day.

She has SNL tonight and then a couple more promo slots this week. Very good chance of selling 2.5 million+ first week in the US!

I thought that as well! Probably because Paul Epworth produced I Miss You & Sweetest Devotion and has done a lot of production for Flo, even if less so on HBHBHB.

Edit: Remedy has finally clicked with me and LOVING it. I still would have liked something a bit more upbeat from the Tedder collab especially after Rumour Has It. Only song I'm not really loving at the moment is Million Years Ago, I still find it too Lovesong-y.

Just listened to the album. When I looked at the producers and heard all the claims about experimentation, I thought it'd be a really eclectic album that would move drastically away from 21, but it really still keeps her core sound and only nudges towards the directions she may go in going forward. She has a broad audience so it was smart not to alienate them, but not to completely pander to them either.

And I actually really love "Remedy"! I know it's more of a classic Adele ballad and sonically it could fit on 21, but lyrically it's so tender and heartfelt and couldn't be farther from the bitterness of a lot of the 21 tracks. Or maybe I just have a weakness for people singing about their kids (see also: Beyoncé's "Blue"). heart.gif

Having listened to 'Remedy' only a couple of times, the only impression it's given me is 'generic overly sentimental ballad' in terms of its structure, melody and lyrics (albeit a beautifully performed one). It's interesting you see it as being more of a classic Adele ballad because I actually thought of it as beneath her, sounding more akin to the token slow/last song on a standard commercial pop album. I also presumed it was about her partner rather than her son, which makes me feel a bit heartless lol. ph34r.gif

By "classic Adele ballad", I just meant that it's a traditional-sounding Adele song and it could've been on either of her previous two albums, at least compared to the more eclectic songs on 25. And idk, I'm not really claiming to have a particularly good "objective" reason for why I love it, as it's not a standout in her discography by any means (it's basically a rewrite of "Make You Feel My Love"). I just find the sentiment behind it really lovely, and I think that age and experience (of being a mother especially) have afforded a weight to her words. Like, even though it's basically "Make You Feel My Love" 2.0, I can't imagine 19-year-old Adele singing it in any believable way. Like I said, I think I just have a weakness for people singing about their kids tongue.gif

And yeah, she said in an interview that it was originally written for her son, but when she sang it she was really singing it to everyone she loves, so you're not wrong!

Posted by: SeanGrey 23rd November 2015, 01:56 PM

I think Remedy sounds like it could belong on 21 given it was the first track written for the first album and obviously would be before she started experimenting per say with other sounds.

It'd be an excellent choice for the next single anyway. <3

I just watched her BBC special, brilliant! I love her personality.

The impersonator thing was too adorable.

This has just short of 160k to go before Friday to outsell Oasis' first week sales for Be Here Now ohmy.gif Bloody insane <3

I am very happy this is happening to Adele, she is such a humble and talented artist and I rather see her breaking records than stuff like Crazy Frog laugh.gif

The album is wonderful, I love every single track but "Sweetest devotion" that I find hard to get into.

The bonus tracks are quite lifeless aren't they sad.gif

I found Sweetest Devotion took a few listens to get into. Not a fan of how Angelo features on it either.

She hasn't technically beaten Oasis though. She sold 615,000 up to midnight last night. Oasis' first week sales were just three days sales. So she's quite behind really.

The vast majority of this website already knows Oasis' first chart week were made of three days sales now. tongue.gif The 160k that she's short of takes into account the full 7 days of availability Oasis had.

Posted by: Fgiboy2511 24th November 2015, 03:32 PM

Oasis sold 813k in 7 days so it will be tight and with Tuesday been the worst sales day of the week she might not beat it.

Posted by: BrookeOlivia 24th November 2015, 04:04 PM

But the official charts are counting the 3 days as the first week for the record, So Adele only needs to sell over 696k and she's already sold 615k, To break the record. Oasis might of sold 800k in 7 days but only 3 of them days counted as the first week did it not?

Posted by: T Boy 24th November 2015, 05:02 PM

Then the record is an uneven playing field.

Posted by: JosephStyles 24th November 2015, 05:05 PM

It's fair to count the three days for Oasis I think, we're talking about chart weeks and Oasis only have themselves to blame for releasing midweek.

I believe that 813k figure has been revised down since it was originally reported (and so has the 696k figure for the first 3 days). Adele seems on course to end up around or not far off 800k regardless.

'Water Under the Bridge' performance on Jimmy Fallon!

She also played one of his famous games, 'Box Of Lies' (she wanted to do "Lip Sync Battle" though - It's a shame they didn't do that with her!):

Also, she's impatiently waiting for new Rihanna and Frank Ocean! (She also states she sees herself as more of a "record artist" and not really about the singles!)

Water Under The Bridge wub.gif So glad we've got a performance of that now. It's easily my favourite on the album after Hello.

Posted by: liamk97 25th November 2015, 01:30 PM

Bought the album yesterday and literally everyone in HMV had a copy in their hands!

Favourites so far 'Hello', 'Send My Love', 'I Miss You', 'When We Were Young', 'Million Years Ago' and 'All I Ask'. I thought in the latter she sang "hold me like I'm more than just a breath" which sounds like a much better lyrics than "hold me like I'm more than just a friend". But that's a minor niggle! tongue.gif 'River Lea' is the one that isn't impacting on me and I don't think 'Sweetest Devotion' works as album closer - that should have gone to 'All I Ask' easily.

The verses to 'Million Years Ago' sounds like 'Atticus' by The Noisettes.

681k sold so far, Sold 66k yesterday apparently, Looks likely to sell 800k by Friday just insane! I thought she would sell 500k maybe 600k with how terrible sales are in UK that seemed HUGE well not seemed it is huge haha but no probably 800k plus laugh.gif

Adele and Rihanna in the same yr help me

Posted by: Olympus 26th November 2015, 03:49 PM

On 25's opening day, it sold more in 2 hours than the average total of number one albums this year sold in a week.

Posted by: Josh 26th November 2015, 06:36 PM

I can't believe nobody has mentioned the TOUR yet?!

Is anyone going to attempt to try and purchase tickets? UK advanced tickets go on sale at 9am, Tuesday 1st Dec.

Posted by: Envoirment 26th November 2015, 06:38 PM

I was thinking of getting tickets, but I don't think I'll have the money in time (they're most probably going to sell out in the first hour of going on sale or even quicker!).

I have a feeling that they are going to be really heavily priced...

Myself, my friend from and my best friend from back home are hoping to get tickets. I think they'll be at least £70 MINIMUM. I loved the tour announcement video too, she really is adorable wub.gif
