10 years since Roll Deep rudely denied the clearly more popular Eminem song from number one with one of the most forgotten number ones of the decade. that did annoy me back then especially as it looked like Eminem was finally going to do it from the mids.

if only i were around in 2000 to witness that chart battle, I’d definitely have backed the winning song there too. a very impressive sales talley for both songs there.

Missed the top 40 this week?

Charlie Puth and blackbear
Hard On Yourself

2nd single from third studio album
Released: 14th August 2020
Label: Atlantic Records / Rumson Records

Video

Biography

Charlie Puth
Charles Otto Puth Jr. (/puːθ/; born December 2, 1991) is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer. His initial exposure came through the viral success of his song videos uploaded to YouTube.

After initially signing with eleveneleven after performing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Puth began contributing to songs and albums for other artists such as Cody Simpson, Livingston Taylor, and Skizzy Mars; as well as creating lite solo material and covers of popular songs. With primary intent on a solo career, Atlantic Records eventually sought the artist and released his debut single, "Marvin Gaye" featuring Meghan Trainor in 2015. Coinciding with the single came his first feature, "See You Again", which he co-wrote, co-produced, and performed with Wiz Khalifa for the Furious 7 soundtrack as a tribute to Paul Walker. It peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 for 12 non-consecutive weeks. After the success of "See You Again", he gained worldwide recognition for multiple subsequent releases, including his next single "One Call Away". The single reached number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100, and topped charts in New Zealand, the Republic of Ireland, and the United Kingdom.

Puth's debut studio album, Nine Track Mind, was released in January 2016 to negative reviews from critics, and was preceded by the singles "One Call Away" and "We Don't Talk Anymore" featuring Selena Gomez, which peaked at number 12 and number nine, respectively on the US Billboard Hot 100. In 2017, he released two songs, "Attention" and "How Long", with the former peaking at number five on Billboard Hot 100. Both were included in his second studio album, Voicenotes (2018), which was released to generally positive reviews from critics and peaked at number four on the Billboard 200. In 2019, Puth released the singles "I Warned Myself", "Mother" and "Cheating on You".
- Wikipedia

blackbear
A native of Los Angeles' Hollywood region, Blackbear -- born Matthew Musto -- was known as a fledgling rock-leaning singer/songwriter until he co-wrote Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend," a number two hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2012. Around the same time, he reinvented himself as a rapper and more R&B-oriented singer through the self-released Sex, on which he was joined by fellow "Boyfriend" co-writer Mike Posner, along with James Blake and Maejor Ali. He also appeared on MGK's Lace Up. An EP, The Afterglow, followed in 2014. Another big stride was taken the next year with Deadroses, a self-released full-length that registered on Billboard's Uncharted listing of releases from upcoming artists. Deadroses featured the singles "IDFC" and "90210," featuring rapper G-Eazy. An EP of acoustic interpretations titled Dead followed soon after, before Musto issued his sophomore set, Help, in 2015. The EPs Drink Bleach and Cashmere Noose both arrived in 2016, as did "STFU," the debut single from Musto and Mike Posner's alternative hip-hop duo Mansionz. Two more Mansionz singles preceded the project's eponymous debut LP, released in March 2017. One month later, Blackbear issued his third full-length album, Digital Druglord. Cybersex arrived at the end of the year, debuting in the Top 50. In 2018, in addition to collaborations with Mike Shinoda ("About You") and DVBBS ("IDWK"), he issued solo single "The 1." The following year, he released "1 Sided Love" from the album Anonymous. - iTunes

Missed the top 40 this week?

Martin Jensen and RANI
At Least I Had Fun

Non-album single
Released: 14th August 2020
Label: Virgin Records

Video

Biography

Martin Jensen
Danish electronic producer Martin Jensen specializes in energetic house with touches that range from big-bass festival EDM to lanky tropical. Born in Silkeborg, Denmark, the DJ started spinning on the side of his day job as a contractor. Posting mixes that sampled viral videos on the Internet, he developed a strong fan base on social media. His first single, the celebratory "Si" -- incorporating a sample of footballer Cristiano Ronaldo bellowing the eponymous exclamation -- became a viral hit in 2015. He quickly followed with the booming "Night After Night" and "Miracles," featuring fellow Dane Björnskov. The latter track featured a toned-down sensibility that saw Jensen adopt a more island-influenced sound similar to Kygo or Matoma. In 2016 he issued "All I Wanna Do" and "Solo Dance," which exploded on social media, nearing 142 million streams. That same year he was ranked 82 on DJ Mag's Top 100. "Wait", featuring N.Y.C. pop duo Loote, arrived in 2017, followed in 2018 by "Pull Up" and "16 Steps," the latter of which featured Olivia Holt. A short EP, World, also landed that year. In 2019, he recruited English crooner James Arthur for the track "Nobody." - iTunes

RANI
Rani is a 20 year old singer with an impressive voice. Rani’s first release “Faustix - Crying In The Sun” went platinum and has been streaming millions, charting and getting airplay across Scandinavia. Her second release “Weiss - Feel My Needs” has been streamed across the UK and was playlisted on UK radio stations like BBC Radio 1. Her latest release “Sam Feldt - Post Malone” has been getting support worldwide and added to Spotify’s Today's Top Hits. - Spotify

Huge sales for Spiller ohmy.gif

I wonder if we will ever get 200k+ sales debut again?

Anyone knows what was the last song to do 200k (assuming Adele - Hello)?

Both Ed and Adele have said that their next albums won't follow the title patterns of their previous ones, but I would be so here for those titles.

Biography

The country world feigned surprise when, after three albums of Music Row-indebted songcraft, Taylor Swift formally embraced pop on 2012’s Red. But no one should have been shocked: Any 14-year-old capable of persuading her parents to move from suburban Pennsylvania to Nashville for her career clearly has ambition to burn. And the thrill of following Swift’s rise has been watching her execute it flawlessly, largely because her melodic intelligence is equal to that ambition. Her early, youthful love songs heralded 2010's newly self-possessed Speak Now—which showed off her scathing wit—and evolved into knowing, ironclad pop fare that held its own against boisterous Max Martin production on 1989, her fifth album, titled after her birth year. Throughout, her songwriting has blurred the lines between the public and private, burying enough real-life clues (about, say, scarves and Starbucks) to make clear that only Swift can own her narrative, thank you very much, while still retaining a lyrical elegance. Though 2017's reputation might have been perceived as a gorgeously constructed piece of dramatic theater—its attendant heroes and villains all real-life characters from Swift's public feuds—all that spectacle proved an attention-grabbing cover for her most romantic album to date. - iTunes
